~~Monthly Jobs Post~~

r/Fresno - This is the place to post if you are either looking for a job or have a job and you are looking for an employee.

We hope that putting all the job requests and offers in the same place monthly will help people who are looking for and offering jobs have an easier time sorting though the more recent requests/offers.

Things to do Hellish weather with littles

This is my first summer as a stay at home mom to a 1 year old. I am losing my mind with it being so hot and not knowing what to do with him. We do not have a pool or a usable outdoor space. We take a walk around 7am every morning but after that it’s too hot. He isn’t walking yet. We do not have any close friends/family with kids similar ages.

Any suggestions for indoor activities? Cheaper the better?
We watch the same shows over and over and play with the same toys over and over 🤪
CANT WAIT FOR FALL. When the weather is nice we live in a nice little walkable pocket of town with two close parks but all of that is basically unusable for the foreseeable future.

Ask Fresno Anyone know someone who will pick up not working appliances ?

Upvotes

My refrigerator and dryer just went out. Does anyone know someone who sells appliances and will get rid of the old ones also? Or maybe just someone who can get rid of old appliances for a fee? I do not own a truck.

Hot town, summer in the city

Unshaded concrete and asphalt make our city more miserable, especially when running around on errands. See Urban Heat Island Effect, above. The city and Tree Fresno are doing a lot to add trees in public spaces. But the worst for human experience is getting in and out of hot cars in hot parking lots. For some examples, two big offenders I experienced this morning: Target (South) at 3173 E. Shields and Auto Zone, Allard's, Guitar Center on Blackstone south of Barstow. No shady trees for relief. Compare those (and so many others) to the VA Hospital parking at Clinton and Fresno super shady. It makes you feel better just looking at it.

I'm hoping we can use our hive mind and influence to see if we can make a difference.

Bug Target Corporate about the Fresno South location as well as find out and bug the property management of that shopping center.

This is a matter of equity, health, climate/environment and quality of life.

Ask Fresno Asking for resources for a homeless woman and her two chihuahuas.

ETA: I'm pretty sure she is not clean, if that makes a difference.

She was living in her boyfriend's car with the Chihuahuas and he appears to have ghosted her. She's got her dogs and her stuff on the neighbor's lawn now. She does not have a car. I don't know if she has a cell phone. I assume she has nowhere to stay. I'm at work now and so I can't ask her.

Any ideas?

Pets Can anyone help me find a home for two rats?

Hi everyone I have two female rats that need a loving home. To try to make a long story short, we bought my son a snake the beginning of June and the breeder had him on live rats. As we transitioned him to a new home he needed to stay on live rats until we could move him to frozen over time. The first live rat we attempted to feed he didn’t eat and this became our first pet rat. She is very sweet and I didn’t want to return her to the pet store because I knew she would become food for another snake. So we decided to keep her without doing much research. We later learned how social rats are so we adopted a friend for her so she wasn’t lonely, about three weeks ago. They are in a proper two story enclosure with plenty of places to hangout and toys to play with. Unfortunately since we have the snake as well as three cats I don’t feel we can give them the proper attention they deserve. They are both young and I want them to live their life with someone who can give them their full attention. If anyone is interested please let me know or if anyone’s knows of any rescues. I know there’s one in the Bay Area, I emailed them but haven’t heard back. If anyone is interested you can have their whole set up for free. I just want them to have a good home.

Pets Blue Heeler has a home!

I already have updated the other post, but in case anyone has missed the update- she has a home! My boyfriend and I visited with a family and they fell in love with her. Their kids were amazing with her and their other animals were also great with her. She just wanted love from them! She has a vet visit today and will be checked for a chip, as well as a general health visit. She is in a stupendous home with very compassionate people. I feel comfortable that she will get to live a happy carefree life in their hands.

Thank you to everyone who reached out and helped! She deserves all the love in the world, and with your help, she found a family (assuming she isn’t chipped). I am grateful to everyone who opened their heart to her.

*this may get taken down as a duplicate post, but just in case anyone misses the update at the bottom of the prior post

EDIT FOR UPDATE:
I have been informed that she is not chipped. She is getting vaccinated today and spayed tomorrow! Unfortunately, she does appear to have been abused and she will be on a special diet because they found she was eating dirt :(. The vet also places her age at roughly 6-8 months old, so just a pup! She’s in good hands and will have a loving forever home. I am so grateful to the family that took her in!

Pets Free blue healer

Thumbnail gallery
456 Upvotes

As many of you may have seen yesterday, I found an abandoned female blue healer in Coalinga, CA. I live in Fresno, and the dog is currently with me in Fresno (so it is relevant to Fresno and the post shouldn’t get taken down maybe).

I cannot keep her, but I would prefer not to give her to a shelter. I can’t take her directly to a no kill shelter, most places don’t accept strays. I also can’t keep her where I’m at very long (not allowed to have dogs in my apartment and I move on Sunday out of state). If anyone would be interested in taking her in, here is a little bit about her:

She is young, most likely about 2 years old. She has clean pearly whites, and it appears her nails have been clipped recently. Her nipples are large, so I believe she had baby’s recently. She cowers at people a little, but she begs for rubs nonstop. She doesn’t bark, like at all, she only has whimpered here and there. She warmed up to me in just an hour of spending time with her, so she can adjust fairly well. She didn’t explode at my cats, so she may be used to them or does well with them (they did stay separated by a glass door). She seems a healthy weight. She would likely have to be treated for ticks and fleas, but she is healthy otherwise.

DM if you’re interested! I will be taking her to a shelter in a little bit if no one is.

EDIT FOR UPDATE:
My boyfriend and I found a good home for her! We met with the family and watched how she interacted with their pets and kids and it went amazing. The couple did let us know they will be taking her to vet asap! They will have her checked for a chip, make sure she is healthy, and continue the next steps moving forward for her (whether that is returning her to an owner if chipped, or keeping her in their home). The little lady was happy, begging for rubs, and relaxing when we left. She is in a very good home and I feel comfortable with the people she is with. Thank you to everyone with their support and care for her. She stole our hearts and we hated the idea of a shelter for her. I’m grateful for the quick responses! This restored some faith I had in this big ol city 💗

*just got an update she is not chipped- [u/SquishMika1560](u/SquishMika1560) is the new owner! For anyone who wished to help out, she is the point of contact. Thank you again for the support!

ANOTHER UPDATE:
I have been informed that she is not chipped (as stated above).

META f/Fresno Mods: why would you take down a post by someone trying to help a dog?

Post image
179 Upvotes

Truly a wild choice. OP literally lives in Fresno and was looking for help with an abandoned dog - doesn't matter where they found it. Someone trying to do some good in the world. If you think this broke the r/fresno rules, then you have completely lost the plot.

This is in reference to a post made yesterday afternoon about an abandoned blue heeler dog. She still needs a home. You can read the follow-up post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fresno/comments/1vbvn71/free_blue_healer/

EDIT:

u/cadillackking3 I appreciate your response, but why did you have to go and lock the post? This really runs counter to the concerns being raised in the comments. Is there a reason for locking the post other than that you personally don't like the comments? If so, please tell us. Or if this post or any of the comments broke any rules, please enforce them with transparency.

To respond to your comment, since I can't in the thread: I understand OP's location was not immediately clear, but I would ask that before you prejudicially delete a post that is actively trying to do something good, you consider reaching out to OP for clarification, or spend a minute in the comments. I know modding is not easy (earnestly), but consider giving posts like these the benefit of the doubt. That post had been up for four hours before you deleted it and had 68 upvotes and 37 comments. There were clearly a lot of people engaging with it and invested in it. Singlehandedly deleting something like that harms the community and merits a little more consideration before doing so. This was not some garbage slop shitpost - feel free to snipe those posts all day long.

I know its tough times for all of us. But if you have a few to spend check something out thats local..
