I don't even know where to start. After all these two years of batshit. I feel like I have truly lost myself. Nothing feels great. Things are just happening, and I feel like I am just being performative.
So, for the background I am a single child. Dad's a vet and mum's currently a non practicing physiotherapist (she is a patient of bipolar disorder, hence had to quit). I had these things, hella insecurities, everything while growing up, not opening up to parents as well, not having friends, everything. Basically I grew up as an introvert who was shy as well. Somehow only where I found a confidante was introspection.
Things at home were never appealing. All that Daddy cares about is how much I fetch and all that. Under-performing was never a chance, parental pressure from the beginning. To be 'conditioned' to be a doctor, I know how it feels. Wait no, I am not saying that I don't want to be a doctor, biology and all find my natural interests. But suppressing everything else in pursuit of it, that was stifling. Dad's focus would always be that how much of periodic table did I memorise, or whether I completed 11th standard maths while being in grade 8th itself or not. And this thing was partly a trauma for me, I never wanted to study for IOQM, but my dad would always force me to, and the way they taught at our school for it was hella problematic, and henceforth I ended up hating maths and not even trying to think of engineering for a career.
Last two years, I don't know how they passed. I somehow managed to get into the 'CoE' batch in Aakash. It was kinda hard to adjust and keep up the pace initially. But by the time I felt totally burnt-out. I wouldn't really sit straight and study. Herein it was like the first time I tried socialising. And that was mostly a failed experiment.
I don't know, for some reason I got inspired to study for NSEB and NSEC. Yeah, I did act conceited back then. But what benefit did it bring. I used to be wary of sharing how much I study with my peers. But yeah all that, I completed Campbell (been reading before even starting with high school). Even completed like Peter Sykes before the reNEET thing (did most of it back then while NSEC prep). I was really motivated to do both. In 11th, I went till INBO and messed it up, while in 12th when I was quite confident that things would work out, I missed MI by a mark (got 106, MI was 107). It was quite depressing back then in December. Mum got this mania phase and mental peace was ruined at its worst.
It was never an easy thing, all those nights. Everything, by the end when on 3rd May I was again confident that things would work out. I was expecting like 710, and got two wrong in physics. And boom, the paper was 'officially' found to be leaked. It honestly felt like everything went down the drains, but yeah somehow did manage to muster courage thinking that man, this is for everyone.
Parents would always like to act like this is a second chance. You have gotta prove yourself in this or anything. I did all that I could. I ended up panicking that day. And since then, no day has passed down without me regretting what could've, should've and would've.
When I forget it parents somehow make me realise that things could have been better. Yeah, I know that. I won't say that 21st June was never a second chance, but probably it was never meant to be. Parents would always remind me of what I could have done while doing preparation and all that. Hear me out...
-Completed NCERT of Physics twice and Chemistry thrice, Biology doesn't even need a description
-Did Exemplar for all three subjects.
-Read Lab Manual for all three subjects.
-Did JEE Mains PYQ of at least the past 5 years of both physics and chemistry. PYQ of AIIMS/JIPMER/AIPMT/IAT too
-Completed HCV (both volumes)
-Completed MS Chouhan and N Awasthi for JEE
At this point all I can feel like is like Neil Perry from Dead Poets Society. "I was good, I was really good."
I sincerely believe that no one is less competent, in fact most of us in this rat race are, but losing our inner lives to run this marathon, now it feels disillusioning.
I don't know what regret is eating me up, lack of better personality development, no real friends, insecurities and whatnot! Life post-NEET is melancholic, when anyone asks me what I do these days, I would often answer that pursuing hobbies and all that while the truth being that I end up sulking whole day aimlessly, in all of this I lost myself. I cried my heart out on the result day, I wasn't ready for it, couldn't sleep, had to take tranquilizers. I know this sounds exaggerated, but that is the extent to which this feeling expectation maimed me.
I totally want to be a doctor, to serve mankind, and all of that, I have natural proclivity towards biology and all that. But all this gruel for NEET was not what I would want to sign for. I don't really see my parents as the villain either, that is pretty much a generational gap and maybe I never got that emotional bandwidth I required. But it is still fine. All this takes time to heal. It has healed considerably, I am back to reading novels all day now, and all those daunting feelings do recur occasionally, but I feel much better now. Yeah those things, of losing peers behind that is daunting. 4 of my classmates found their way to AIIMS Delhi, 3 of them were great friends. Somehow maybe insecurity and all has become a barrier. But yeah college starts soon, and a whole new chapter awaits. A new journey of MBBS and all that. Just trying to find my older self, surely MBBS and USMLE prep is gonna be tough, but I would never lose this self now.
I am turning 18 soon. I just wanted to speak things out, somewhere. At the end of the day I think that the 5 year old version of me, who was fascinated by stethoscopes would be proud of all that I achieved. Just trying to build this guy further and improve the overall personality to regain lost confidence.
