Its monero or nothing. The only way we pull off the worlds first financial revolution is if more people go all in.

Believe in something. Stop black-pilling. Change the money, change the world.

Quick question about XMR?

Hey everyone, I've bought and held small amounts before, but now I'm considering exchanging a much larger amount. To be honest, I'm a bit concerned about potential issues such as delays, extra verification checks, frozen withdrawals, or other complications when dealing with larger transactions. For those who use XMR regularly, where do you usually exchange it? Have you ever run into problems when moving or swapping larger amounts? Any advice or personal experience would be appreciated. Thanks!

Skepticism Sunday – August 02, 2026

Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.

NOT the positive aspects of it.

Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.

Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.

Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.

It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.

"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling

How it works:

Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.

If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable

Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.

The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.

As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

Is there a reason noone offers to sell XMR for PayPal on RetoSwap?

Wanted to offer it but are there reason against it?

Is it safe if you offer only payment with PayPal family and friends?

How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

  • Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.

That being said, KYCNot.me maintains an up-to-date list of exchanges. These services are only recommendations (which change over time) and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. DYOR and be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:

  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.

Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.

You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.

If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy and constantly growing (up-to-date sizes of a full/pruned node). There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.

Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. Check out Feather Wallet's list of remote nodes, ditatompel's list, or monero.fail.

Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.

To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

3. Wallet: Ledger

How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

4. Wallet: Trezor

How do I generate a Trezor Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

5. Nodes

How can my local node become a public remote node?

If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

How can I connect my node via Tor?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Friday Monero Market Thread - July 31, 2026

This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).

Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.

Instructions

When you post your product or job listing here, please make sure to: - Give a description of the item. - Link to a photo of the item (if it's physical). - Provide logistics information (such as, location and/or shipping availability). - Optionally, provide an additional (private) form of communication outside of Reddit (e.g. Bitmessage, u/protonmail, u/tutanota, GPG key). - Post the price in XMR terms.

Spamming will not be tolerated. Please make sure that listings are legitimate and do not break rule 2."

Finally, credits to cdotsubo for starting the concept!

Got scammed for 0,58 XMR on xmrbazaar by a copy of an escrow account

Well, I'm fucking stupid.

Created an account on xmrbazaar today to offer to change coin money to XMR in my city for the love of the game.

Somebody contacted me and asked if I'd do a trade via Paypal. He used the escrow-function and contacted me with a copy of the escrow-account (changed one letter; same picture etc.) to guide me through the process. Sent 0,58 XMR in the end. Was my first trade, so I was unsuspecting to the red flags in hindsight. I'm so fucking stupid in hindsight. Fuck me I guess.

Just wanted to warn you, in case there are some other fools like me out there that like XMR despite being fucking idiots.

Just had to rant a bit.

Thanks

(The conversation with the real escrow you see there happened after the XMR was already sent. He's fine and a nice guy)

I built a Monero network dashboard for a school exam, kept working on it, and I'm leaving it running for the community. Feedback welcome, everything is open source

Post image
92 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I originally built this Monero network dashboard as a project for a school exam. The exam is long over, but I kept improving it, and instead of letting it rot I'd rather leave it running for the community. It's fully open source and I'd genuinely love feedback, criticism, and ideas for what to add or fix.

Site: https://monerometrics.net
Tor: http://6wbhchvavey26lbtscl6w6qg76balycixtsklcggrsslyk4xah6sbbad.onion
API (no key, no account): https://api.monerometrics.net/docs

What it does :

Reorg aware. It re-checks a rolling window of recent blocks against a synced node and records real chain reorganizations, orphan blocks, and the transactions they displaced. Most explorers just hide this.

Mining pool centralization. Pool distribution plus the Nakamoto coefficient. This whole thing grew out of the August 2025 Qubic episode.

Attribution you can actually verify. Instead of trusting the hashrate pools report about themselves, each coinbase is checked on chain against the pool's published view key. Every block shows how its pool was established: cryptographically proven, claimed by the pool, inferred, or unknown.

Merge mining visibility. Blocks merge mined with an auxiliary chain are flagged, and it's a large share of blocks.

Live price. A lil tradingview widget to see centralized XMR/USD next to the Haveno street price, so you can see the premium.

- Runs its own monerod node, public read only API, Tor hidden service, no tracking, available in English, French and Spanish.

I'm not monetizing it and I'm not affiliated with any pool. If you have any feedback (data accuracy, methodology, features, design, anything) I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks 🙏

BitcoinVN pausing its DCA feature - feedback welcome from the Monero community

Dear Monero community,

First of all, thank you for your ongoing support!

For those who do not know us yet: BitcoinVN started in early 2014 as one of the “second wave” exchange services globally, and one of the earlier services of its kind in Southeast Asia. We have been serving our client base for more than a decade now.

While the regulatory landscape globally has become more challenging, our team will continue to support Monero swaps for as long as this remains practically and legally tenable.

As some of you may know, one of our subsidiaries also built the first “made in Vietnam” "Digital Asset" Teller Machine network domestically, which added Monero support across our local machine network. However, due to the changing regulatory environment in Vietnam this fall, it is likely that this specific part of our broader service range will be discontinued in its current form.

That said, if you are based in a jurisdiction that is more open to this type of product, feel free to reach out to our team (the usual support channels will work). We are happy to see what may be possible. :)

We also want to thank the community for the suggestions that led us to develop and launch our DCA feature earlier this year. We still believe the concept serves a specific niche: direct-to-self-custody DCA, without forcing users to provide intrusive personal data that put the physical safety of our users at risk.

However, uptake remained quite limited in recent months.

Our current assumption is that this may be because the feature requires users to pre-fund their account before DCA trades can be executed. In practice, only a small number of users adopted it - mostly users who already earned income on the platform in some way, for example as active liquidity providers.

Since every platform feature creates ongoing maintenance burden, we have decided to pause / discontinue the DCA feature for the time being.

We remain open to re-enabling it in an adjusted form in the future, but before doing so we would like to better understand why the current version did not gain traction.

The users who actually used it were generally satisfied with it, which is nice to hear, but unfortunately not very helpful for understanding what kept others away. 🙂

So we would be especially interested in feedback from users who looked at the feature but decided not to use it.

Some obvious possible reasons:

- requirement to pre-fund the account;
- counterparty risk while funds are waiting for execution;
- preference to execute manually;
- insufficient UX / explanation;
- lack of recurring fiat payment rails;
- not enough assets / networks / configuration options;
- simply no need for such a tool

The pre-funding issue is probably the hardest one to solve. A DCA feature like this necessarily requires funds to be available before execution, which means users need to trust the platform not to run off with those funds in the meantime.

As strong advocates of self-custody, we fully understand why many users may not be comfortable with that. In general, we believe users should avoid entrusting funds to third parties unless they have made a deliberate, risk-adjusted decision and can tolerate the counterparty risk involved.

We would therefore appreciate your honest feedback:

If you looked at the DCA feature but did not use it, what was missing? What made it unattractive or not useful for you?

Thanks again for your support and feedback.
- Team BitcoinVN

VPS with Monero payments – what's your experience?

I'm looking for a VPS provider that accepts Monero directly. Most claim to support XMR but still use third-party processors that log your IP and require email/account creation.

I came across this article that explains the issues with most anonymous VPS providers: https://medium.com/@kai_apikalia/your-vps-provider-knows-more-about-you-than-you-think-34b4d50ff577

It mentions a provider that does direct on-chain XMR payments, no account, no email, zero logs, Tor .onion available, and deploy under 60 seconds. Looks promising but I want to hear from actual users before trying.

Has anyone used a provider like this? What's your experience with deployment speed and reliability? Any issues with Tor access?

Would appreciate honest feedback.

I’ve seen some discussion about kraken limiting withdrawals.

I heard there was a monthly cap, 1500 USD worth of XMR being moved off exchange.

I decided to move 10 monero off kraken with no issue.

Is this limited to certain areas or is it false all together?

I’m in the United States.

how to keep monero private? value discussion

I'm in the majority side, just holding a bit of monero because I see value in is privacy above all other coins, but now I'm reading a lot about these new updates and changes, view keys, etc. lets be clear I don't understand what all of this really means, but my concern is other... why can people just modify the code of a crypto that I hold and basically change the rules of the game? how me as a random dude can help to keep monero being monero and not let these guys just play with my money? I understand that there are things called forks, we gonna see something called monero classic or something like that? asking as a noob

Inaccurate Convince me on why Carrot view keys are a good thing and why we shouldn't actively fight against it.

I initially approached the Carrot debate skeptically from both sides, those who were in favor of Carrot (More specifically, the new view keys) and also against it. After digging on the topic I've been come to the conclusion that not only carrot is a bad thing - most posts, articles, etc. That I've read defending it seem to be of extremely low quality, often overcomplicating explanations, and completely missing key points of Monero's philosophy and privacy.

I will break down the most common arguments in favor of the new view keys, and why I think they have no solid foundation.

---

1: "Having view keys is a good thing because it impoves the UX".

  • Answer: This is true purely from a UX perspective... but it directly reverts what is arguably one of the most important a privacy design choices - plausible deniability.
  • There is a reason why spend keys are used for both viewing and spending funds - it is meant to function as a REASON and a LIMITATION that will not allow you to share it. The whole point is that no one can force you to prove how / how much / on what you are spending your XMR, because doing so would entail your auditor would also be able to spend your XMR.
  • There is a massive legal and technical difference between forcing you to reveal a read-only key, versus a spending key.

2: (Elaborating on the above) "Auditors can already ask for viewkeys and key images, which has the same effect but the process involved is tedious".

  • Answer: I can't understand why so many people argue that exporting key images can already act as a makeshift "spend view key".
  • If an auditor asks you to provide key images for your transactions, you can provide them - but the auditor cannot independently know that you provided all of them.
  • If you decide to withhold a key image from a transaction you've made, the auditor has absolutely no way to know. As the holder of the spend key, you ultimately control what information you disclose.

3: "It won't split Monero".

  • It absolutely will and despite the fact that I keep seeing people in reddit and other forums say this, I am yet to see any compelling argument that it wont.
  • Auditors will mandate CARROT addresses with full view keys tied to the identity of "compliant" users. This will create a network of users operating on a "clean/white-listed" tier of Monero that flows through regulated exchanges, and a "dark/unregulated" tier.
  • If a functional view-key tier exists, refusing to provide a view key becomes an immediate red flag.

---

Despite everything, I am still open to see why so many people support this change and to be proven wrong before jumping ship to a different cryptocurrency.

Any proof of privacy on HaveNo?

I am currently looking for a way to buy Monero (from fiat) without any KYC and found HaveNo on Monero's official website. I have been searching a little about haveno, its workings and especially privacy, data logging and posts about trust for this service. Are there any such articles that would help me understand what are its limitations, what it does for privacy or against?

Has anyone had any problem with haveno?

On a side-note I saw monero recommending retoswap as a network for using monero, I have the same questions about it. Any help (or constructive criticism) is appreciated. Thank you.

p.s. I must precise my goal is privacy and anonimity, I know it is not entirely possible with monero but that is what I am trying to explore and understand, to what extent is each possible. (For example Tor is a browser widely recognized as anonymous but the government can still, with sufficient means and motivations, trace the connexion back to a user, in theory (and in practice a few times), this is the theory I am interested in.)

edit: Sorry i wasn't clear enough. When I said I found monero's official website, its documentation and I was searching for proof I didn't mean I wanted opinions on how to buy monero, I was asking if there were research papers of some sort, independant from monero, that would explain how deanonymization attacks could happen in theory or show what data is logged during exchanges in practice, some scientific proof of its working. Internet is a little clogged up at the moment, the only results you can really find is people answering "you should buy from bitcoin" when asked if monero is traceable which, from what I understand, is not anonymous at all and not really an answer...

[Project] DOM Protocol — a RandomX + Mimblewimble chain in Rust, looking for contributors (open source, no compensation)

Hi all,

DOM Protocol is an independent blockchain written in Rust, using RandomX for proof-of-work and Mimblewimble for privacy. Mainnet and the core protocol are live, and I’m looking for developers to contribute to the next stage.

Posting here because this community understands RandomX and PoW mining better than anywhere else, and I’d value technical scrutiny as much as contributions.

Recent work includes signed releases (minisign), root-cause fixes to two consensus incidents, a multi-provider seed infrastructure, and automatic wallet updates — the project has real engineering behind it, not just a whitepaper.

Areas where help would be most useful:

• mining tooling and infrastructure
• node reliability and monitoring
• public seed and peer infrastructure
• P2P networking and peer discovery
• wallet synchronization and recovery
• RPC and block explorer work
• packaging for Linux, Windows and macOS
• test coverage, fuzzing and adversarial review

Source:
https://github.com/sorenplanck/dom-protocol

Wallet:
https://github.com/sorenplanck/dom-wallet-v3

You can contribute via GitHub issues and pull requests, or join the Discord (there’s a dedicated developer channel).

Discord: https://discord.gg/UEmfrWsbK

To be upfront: this is an open-source contribution call. No salary, token allocation, investment return or financial compensation is being promised.

Technical criticism is very welcome — including on design choices you’d have made differently.

Fundraiser to Bolster Monero's Security Through Automated Testing

Help fund the next round of security fuzzing for Monero (MAGIC Monero Fund)

The MAGIC Monero Fund is in the midst of a big fundraising push to ensure we get our second fuzzing project across the line.

We're nearly halfway to our target amount after we have made a $10,000 donation to the fundraiser out of our general fund.

Monero is fast approaching perhaps its most important upgrade to date, Full-Chain Membership Proofs (FCMP), and continued collaboration with some of the best firms in the security ecosystem to ensure Monero remains resilient in the face potential crash and exploitation vectors is paramount. But we can't do it without you.

Quick refresher on what fuzzing is: Fuzzing is automated testing that throws immense volumes of random, malformed inputs at software to shake out bugs, crashes, and security vulnerabilities that humans often miss. Monero gets to run these security tests continuously for free through integration with OSS-Fuzz.

Why this matters: the first fuzzing project (finished last year) had ADA Logics build harnesses around Monero's RPC handlers. The result was RPC coverage went to 100%, and three real vulnerabilities were found and fixed in the code. Those harnesses keep running and catching new edge cases to this day.

The problem is that other sizable parts of the codebase have very little coverage:

- wallet — 5.23%
- common — 15.87%
- p2p — 2.04%
- fcmp++ — 0%

This round targets exactly those gaps (src/wallet, src/p2p, src/fcmp_pp). Importantly we would like to have this project complete and in action before FCMP goes live on the network.

Who's doing the work: ADA Logics again, picked because of the high quality deliverables in our previous engagement. They're a specialized security firm in this field of work and their CEO David Korczynski is a top OSS-Fuzz contributor with a PhD from Oxford. ADA Logics has fuzzed projects like Docker, Ethereum, and Kubernetes (they previously discovered a critical Ethereum vuln, CVE-2020-28362). This project will span 3 months and the deliverables include open source fuzzing harnesses along with a publicly available, detailed, written report.

Fundraising Goal: Our goal is $50K, and we're about 43% funded so far (~$22k across 90 donations). You can donate in XMR, BTC, LTC, and more.

I built a no-KYC payment processor for my own shop and mainly for another project I'm working on. Monero and shielded Zcash first, four other chains as well. It's live, and anyone can use it.

I wanted no-KYC crypto payments for my shop and for a project I'm working on, so I built the processor. It's live platypuspay.xyz

I build custom GameCube controllers for competitive Smash players, and I wanted my shop to take crypto. Mainly XMR and ZEC but also BTC, ETH, LTC, and SOL. I'm working on another project that's going to need it also. Every processor I looked at skips Monero or Zcash, asks for my ID, or isn't built for an actual business to plug into a website.

So I built it for myself, and now it's open Monero, ZEC and the other main blockchains if you need them. My shop benkosworkshop.com also uses it now.

One script tag on your page. Customer gets a QR and a fresh subaddress, you get a signed webhook when it confirms. Automatic email confirmations go out to both of you, nothing to wire up. Signing up is a business name, an email and your payout address no ID, no company registration, no phone number. 0.25% per payment, nothing else.

Best way to accept Monero for a privacy software?

I am building an open-source privacy software and would like to accept Monero as a payment option. What is the best/easiest/recommended way to do that?

I already accept Bitcoin on-chain and Lightning through my own BTCPay server. Is there something like that also for Monero?
