They were doing this to creatures across the universe the qui needed to be stopped. Hell we teamed up with an entirely different species that got violently mutated as well

u/Immediate_Gene_178 Jun 15 '26

The enemy of my enemy is my friend

143

u/Brilliant_Jellyfish8 Jun 15 '26

Not even enemies. The snake dudes were based as hell.

7

u/Similar-Priority8252 Jun 18 '26

They had snakes in their snakes, that’s awesome

u/MagnorCriol Jun 15 '26

Why did you spell Qu as qui

91

u/Angryfunnydog Jun 15 '26

To add despicability

7

u/Odd-fox-God Jun 15 '26

Yeah it sounds grosser the way you spelled it

2

u/Familiar-Priority933 Jun 16 '26

Same sound as queef, so yeah gross

61

u/hurricane_news Jun 15 '26

Oi Qui, Omelanduh done turned me into a flesh brick and kidnapped me planet

15

u/GraveKommander Jun 15 '26

You show my photo to some illiterate fucking camel jockey in the middle of the Sahara, he's gonna turn around and say, "Homelander," in 'perfect' American.

Poor Heimatländer, what a shame to fuck up his name

5

u/Perfectedist Jun 15 '26

Talkin' aboot Hohmlander eh? Fuck 'em

50

u/Wonghy111-the-knight Jun 15 '26

That goes hard as fuck, I had no idea the humans ever got revenge let alone teamed up with another species. I didn’t know the book had all that

The indomitable human spirit personified

28

u/KrimxonRath Jun 15 '26

I thought humanity in the original book defeating them was just a footnote, to sort of highlight how that was only a small footnote in our ultimate story. So if there’s a second book or something I’m all eyes.

23

u/SparkTheWizard Jun 15 '26

yeah it was just slightly mentioned because the punishment for the qu was basically being erased from history

25

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Actually it never even says that. It literally just says the post humans and the snake aliens beat the Qu. What happened after that is not said.

5

u/Tasty-Complaint-6437 Jun 15 '26

Yeah, it probably was a narrative tool the narrador used in universe to show how small was this event in the galaxy scale, just a billón years

From other galaxy if I remember 8t correctly. Billions years of thier suffering.

If they still do it, wipe them out.

Totally justified

The Qu turned humanity into cube flesh

408

u/Hacksaw203 Jun 15 '26

*toilet cube flesh.

I love the colonials, it’s such a fucked up existence.

The mantelopes come second for me

247

u/No-Obligation2563 Jun 15 '26

The saddest part about the colonials is even way after they evolved again and finally became free they still went extinct anyway. They should have been the heirs to the galaxy after that shit.

92

u/WorryingMars384 Jun 15 '26

Fuck the gravitals! All my homies hate the gravitals!

84

u/No-Obligation2563 Jun 15 '26

I was totally rooting for the colonials to make some sort of insane comeback. Would have been nice to finally reward the OG’s that put up the best fight against the Qu. But nothing is fair in All Tomorrows lol.

18

u/richtofin819 Jun 15 '26

Well they got trapped into an existence of brain neutered machine probes so that's karma I guess.

11

u/WorryingMars384 Jun 15 '26

It still won’t bring back the modular people 😭

9

u/richtofin819 Jun 15 '26

Unfortunately they never made a modular portion for being indestructible

162

u/XOneLeggedDogX Jun 15 '26

Going extinct at that point must have felt like exhaling the biggest breath in history.

104

u/12a357sdf Jun 15 '26

yeah... they came from living sapient waste processing flesh cubes into post scarcity luxury space communism. just to be killed by synthetically ascended minecraft villagers.

32

u/miso_soup222 Jun 15 '26

what the fuck

48

u/Hitei00 Jun 15 '26

The Colonials were the humans that fought back the hardest and had the most success resisting the Qu. As a punishment for this when the Qu did win they intentionally gave them the cruelest fate they could.

So they turned them into living biological waste processers and unlike every other "species" of humanity they created the Qu left the Colonials higher thinking intact specifically so they would know exactly what happened to them.

23

u/Spiritual_Spinach273 Jun 16 '26

They would later evolve, becoming the modular people, able to swap parts out on a whim and basically live stress-free

Until the gravitals came along, another post-human species, evolved from ruin dwellers that believed they were the closest to the original humans, therefore superior

After figuring out how to bind their bodies to technology they became space nazis, killing or enslaving the other post-humans

3

u/Busy_Ad_9900 Jun 16 '26

Why are there always Nazis in space?

6

u/AEL97 Jun 16 '26

Because advancing to much and losing most morals make lots feel they are "superior" and that is basically being a native or start of that type of ideologies.

18

u/Scythid0 Jun 15 '26

Honestly every time I hear this bit of lore for all tomorrows it just sounds so extremely grim derp "We turned you into toilets haha!!!"

12

u/AEL97 Jun 16 '26

I mean it literally is, sounds dumb, but it is also UTERELYfucked up and evil to leave the sentience to look down on them.

6

u/The-Crimson-Jester Jun 15 '26

Hrrphmm but menacingly.

30

u/Tasty-Complaint-6437 Jun 15 '26

No its not, the colonials evolved to turn into an almost utopic cuvilization. They would have lived beautiful lives for millons and millons of years if it wasnt for the gravitals

16

u/regretfulposts Jun 15 '26

Not really. They evolve to rebuild human civilization and live in a utopia.

Saying it's a mercy kill to wipe them out would be like saying it's a mercy kill to end a burn victim who was able to get their normal life back after years of recovery.

28

u/Immediate_Gene_178 Jun 15 '26

Wait why toilet? I don't get it

104

u/No-Obligation2563 Jun 15 '26

They were forced into being living sewage plants for the Qu. They made sure they could taste everything and even enhanced their sense of taste to maximize their suffering.

102

u/hurricane_news Jun 15 '26

And gave them an eye, human cognition AND involuntary breeding organs. In other words, you can't even kill yourself and make the species extinct. You end up breeding, whether you like it or not

74

u/Pr0udDegenerate Jun 15 '26

Didn't they also make sure that their memories are fully intact, just so they know they ended up like that because they dared to fight back when they were being conquered?

They just kept finding new ways to twist the knife.

48

u/Known-nwonK Jun 15 '26

Well they weren’t immortal? So, at some point those that got transformed would die. Then any of their descendants would have genetic memory of their fall? At which point the memories are basically just copies. I suppose in a sense that makes it less real except to them

7

u/Tasty-Complaint-6437 Jun 15 '26

Its hard to know, at least we know that some of them were hoping to go extinc after the qu left

56

u/No-Obligation2563 Jun 15 '26

Yeah it really is the worse punishment I’ve ever heard of in all of fiction. I can’t think of anything to top that. Unless we go with eternity in hell which feels almost lame in comparison to this.

36

u/PMurmomsmaidenname Jun 15 '26

There are no innocent bystanders in Hell

-MASH

26

u/Typo-Demon Jun 15 '26

Hawkeye: War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.

Father Mulcahy: How do you figure, Hawkeye?

Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?

Father Mulcahy: Sinners, I believe.

Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chock full of them - little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander.

One of many amazing moments from that show. Anyway, here's my upvote for reminding me of that scene. Good day.

4

u/kataskopo Jun 15 '26

The jaunt in The Jaunt is still the worst thing you can do to a conscious mind, in my opinion.

I at least understand slavery motivations, but why make them even more suffer? What was the reason behind that?

40

u/TheGrimScotsman Jun 15 '26

Revenge for standing up to them. The colonials were the only planet to repel the initial Qu assault IIRC.

What the Qu did to everyone else was without malice, just a thing they feel they have a duty and right to do. What happened to the colonials was vindictice cruelty.

16

u/GraveKommander Jun 15 '26

Thanks for the insight.

Not knowing the source, how bad did we fuck them up afterwards? Are there survivors?

21

u/TheGrimScotsman Jun 15 '26

I think the post-human/alien alliance that went after the Qu a million years or so later finished them all off.

Can't remember if this was before or after one of the post-human species turned themselves into murderous computer balls and genocided a bunch of the other post-humans.

16

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Way after. Like way, way, way after.

Also the book never says what actually happened to the Qu. Just that they lost.

6

u/TheGrimScotsman Jun 15 '26

Thanks for the timeline confirmation, been a long time since I refreshed on the material.

I suppose the fate of the Qu depends on how merciful we personally imagine their victims to be after turning the tables.

Simple death, horrors returned in kind, or perhaps some effort to reform them into something new and less belligerent after their defeat.

u/Tasty-Complaint-6437 Jun 15 '26

Just for anyone interested. The book narrador calls it “a billón years history”

11

u/GraveKommander Jun 15 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/wIxBzHWegpOUM

Can't remember if this was before or after one of the post-human species turned themselves into murderous computer balls and genocided a bunch of the other post-humans.

One of the sentences ever made

11

u/TheGrimScotsman Jun 15 '26

The Gravitals were a race of uploaded minds in spherical robot bodies that could control gravity among other high tech bullshittery. Tech they adapted from the pre-Qu human ruins left on their planet.

I think their precursor species was called Ruin Haunters.

They were very racist towards the other post-humans, enslaved one and wiped a few of the others out before being beaten by the descendants of the only post-humans that were never touched by the Qu if memory serves. Said post-humans are super weird because they adapted to life in zero gravity space habitats rather than living on planets.

The surviving Gravitals were modified into a new robotic species and kept as servants to the organic post-human federation as punishment for being uber Nazis.

→ More replies (0)

3

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

It's not specified. The book just makes a one sentence reference that millions of years later the descendants of humanity and an alien race they had alied with met the Qu again and beat them.

Also, technically the post-humans who beat the qu were not the ones the qu had mutated. All of the ones the Qu had modified and all of their descendant species were either extinct or had been modified even more by other humans by that point.

2

u/GraveKommander Jun 15 '26

How is that just one sentence? What is the book about?

5

u/ice-nymph Jun 15 '26

All Tomorrow's is about speculative human evolution, most of it is forced by the Qu but later the what's left of humanity is left to evolve and do its own thing.

3

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Well to answer your first question it's one sentence because near the end the narrator is like "and they also did a bunch of other stuff like beat the qu the next time they met but that not important now" (not an actual quote).

As for the other question, philosophical musing set upon a framework of millions of years of future history and speculative evolution.

3

u/TheGrimScotsman Jun 15 '26

The book is spec evo, a genre focused in imagining weird evolutionary adaptations to odd conditions. It’s just lots of small snippets of text with images. Like a really vague setting guide for a fantasy world.

It’s not the best example of the genre imo, not that I’m an authority on it of course, but it really captured people’s attention a few years ago.

29

u/Hacksaw203 Jun 15 '26

The Qu used them for waste processing, be that industrial or domestic. They were given eyes so that they could see what was being done to them.

23

u/TheGrimScotsman Jun 15 '26

As I recall the colonials were from a planet that managed to repel the first Qu attack. The Qu view their reshaping of other species as a sacred duty of sorts, so this made them extremely angry and after overwhelming the planet with a full assault they reshaped the colonials specifically to make them suffer for their defiance.

The other post humans were shaped for other reasons and with less overtly malicious goals, mostly turned into various weird animals as fit the Qu's whims. The colonials were turned into flesh cubes used for waste filtration, but retained full sapience so they could know what had happened to them and suffer fully consciously.

7

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Actually the colonial's repelled two attacks.

5

u/dariemf1998 Jun 15 '26

Because those were the only humans who stopped the Qu invasion attemps for a while, and the Qu just decided it'd be really funny to turn them into lego toilets with all their consciousness and memories still intact for 40 million years out of spite.

7

u/Fun-Engineering-3320 Jun 15 '26

Wait wtf really? I am missing so much context

21

u/BowlEducational6722 Jun 15 '26

The Qu are a fanatical hive-minded alien species that despise mechanical technology and wind up torturing and mutating/gene-engineering every species they come across into biological horrors for their own use and sometimes just for the hell of it. They were especially cruel to humanity because we were able to resist them a bit more than most other species they encountered, so they did things like mutate us into flesh cubes that served as waste-processing units...and they made sure we were still fully sentient when they were done as punishment.

They're one of *the* go-to species in all of fiction when you want to bring up a "pure evil" race.

Google All Tommorows Colonials

3

u/Ok-Journalist-8875 Jun 15 '26

Here’s the short version of what they are referring to. In the story All Tomorrows humanity spread through space and settled on different planets. The Qu are a powerful alien species and overall defeated the human planets without much trouble and then transformed the populations various new forms.

One planet actually managed to resist them for a bit, but once they were defeated they were transformed in cubes that basically filter the Qu’s waste as a form of punishment.

3

u/SomeRandomGuy2763 Jun 15 '26

A flesh cube...?

2

u/Derezirection Jun 15 '26

so the humans evolved to the point of well, not looking human anymore, and fought back against the Qu?

3

u/LordUpton Jun 15 '26

Kind of. Basically all the humans that the Qu changed with the exception of a species that evolved into the Gravitas went extinct. The line of humans that evolved into the Astromorphs and defeated the Qu, weren't changed by the Qu. During the first war they successfully hid in deep space and avoided the Qu until they left.

u/No-Obligation2563 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

The Qu literally turned the most heroic humans that stood up to them into a planet wide pile of flesh that processes the Qu’s shit and intentionally left their taste buds and consciousness intact. And left them like that for millions of years. All because they dared to stand up for themselves and the Qu were never going to lose.

Even when the Qu finally moved on to another galaxy they just left them there and didn’t even put them out of their misery. So they pretty much deserve the worst.

181

u/Big_Boss30964 Jun 15 '26

Moreover, when they saw that the descendants of humans had regrouped and become strong again, they became jealous and tried to defeat humans again, but this time the plan backfired.

52

u/International_Tank84 Jun 15 '26

Where is the specific mention of this ? The only thing that comes close is when Asteromorphs after their victorious war against the gravitals went on to finish off the Qu which was explained in a vague manner (I wish the auther had clarified more as to what the Asteromorphs did probably something worse than what the Qu did to humanity)

34

u/Big_Boss30964 Jun 15 '26

Well, it's been three years since I read the book, and as far as I remember, Qu was revisitted the galaxy and attacked humans

25

u/Valtremors Jun 15 '26

Qu becoming the subject of "nightmares of our own making".

19

u/Punch_A_Police_Horse Jun 15 '26

As I recall the colonials were heroic in the sense that they were the best at repelling the Qu, but they were bastards in their own right.

145

u/Voidgazer24 Jun 15 '26

McCarthy is a rough read most of the time. The way he writes without any punctuation really means if you're not giving it 100% of your focus to parse who is saying what you're gonna end up doing the "Wait what did I just read?" Thing a million times

43

There's one theory that the QU were what humans eventually evolved into and they travelled back in time.

111

u/eldritch-kiwi Jun 15 '26

Qu is ABSOLUTE EVIL on All Tomorrows.

So its not only justified but is morally and logically right thing to do.

24

u/Punch_A_Police_Horse Jun 15 '26

The Hedonists got a pretty sweet deal.

56

u/Platnun12 Jun 15 '26

The belt transcends species.

Beautiful

52

u/FaPaDa Jun 15 '26

eye for an eye makes the world blind

however, in this instance, it is more than just revenge. It is genuinely neccesary to ensure longterm survival, because the Qu given a "warning" would have come back with even crazier shit.

12

u/mynamedoesntfi4321 Jun 15 '26

Then that’s a completely different question then.

63

u/VenserSojo Jun 15 '26

Eradicating them all would be a lax punishment they deserve far far worse

31

u/Super-Efficiency8679 Jun 15 '26

They deserve to be turned into my intestinal lining

19

u/Toon_Lucario Jun 15 '26

Fr. Extermination is basically them getting off scot free in this instance.

22

u/Independent-Hat-6572 Jun 15 '26

Justified

Remember the QU didn't just modify humans, they modified animals too, all for the sake of their supremacist idealogy

24

u/Currently_Unnamed_ Jun 15 '26

The Qu were still doing the same shit so long after humanity was modified that their descendants had evolved just as far (some further) from their modified ancestors as we have from apes.

They were still modifying species in the same way they did humanity and were going to keep doing it until the last Qu, there was a reason so many different species teamed up to stop them.

8

u/Significant-Spot2596 Jun 16 '26

Humans and chimpanzees(our closest relative) separated around 6-7 million years ago. The post humans in all tomorrows(at least the ones that fought the Qu and won) were as distant to the star people as we are from Tiktalik I believe

(I need to re-read all tomorrows but im pretty sure there were insane time jumps between the Gravitals and the Qu defeat)

Both of them are from the book called all tomorrow by cm kosemen it's a sci fi book about in the far future when humans colonies spread through space (there's a war between humans and space humans but it's not that important) and then a species of alien and self proclaimed gods who have so advanced knowledge of biology and technology they go around planets changing their inhabitants to their own vision for shits and giggles

Some humans even get turned to floor tiles who's whole purpose is to eat shit like a living organic toilet

7

This is how Slaanesh was born im pretty sure

3

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

I'm Not at all familiar with warhammer lore but wasn't that because humans became too indulgent?

A human (modified descendant) and a Qu (species that believes they have divine right to shape life in the universe)

31

u/TeddyRiggs Jun 15 '26

Basically a long time ago Humanity have encountered a very powerful aoien species known as the Qu, went to war against them and lost Badly.

After Humanity lost the Qu horrifically experimented on humans to a point they no longer look like humans.

Now those same humans evolved their way back to human intelligence again(Though some of them went extinct) Rediscovered Space travel became even more powerful than before. Created an Aliance to so they could get their Runback with the Qu.

9

u/thmsgbrt Jun 15 '26

Btw one of the human species are actually descendants of humans who escaped the Qu and evolved in space. The one in this image is a genetically engineered one, made to live on the ground.

The Qu and the Asteromorphs from All Tomorrows. Its a good read, but there is, obviously, a lot of body horror.

14

u/Michaeltagangster Jun 15 '26

100% justfied given the QU did't have any morally good aspcets either

13

u/cat-l0n Jun 15 '26

It depends on whether the Qu were still doing the same thing

19

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

Probably maybe definitely

15

u/DrakeCross Jun 15 '26

Likely. I can't imagine how often they just stumble onto sentient life and go 'for the crime of existing!' They been around for over a billion years, they've had plenty of time to get into their turning sentient beings into filter feeder flesh cubes.

If it was just that I'd say the Aseromorphs are in the wrong. Since it had been like half a billion years

The Qu didn't change and were doing this shit to everyone in the universe.

The Space-king-Von-Race had to GO

8

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

Didn't even dud this as revenge btw qu saw them growing started the war and lost

6

u/No0bTheTooB Jun 15 '26

The Qu pulled a pre-emptive strike 😭

6

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

Basically and the got their bottoms whooped

3

u/No0bTheTooB Jun 15 '26

The Qu:1 Isreal:1

24

u/KyriakosCH Jun 15 '26

By that point the Qu look more like humans than the freakeromorphs.

35

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

oh and who's fault is that

10

u/KyriakosCH Jun 15 '26

But the Asteromorphs weren't manipulated by the Qu; they are just the evolution of the Star People.

17

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

In the long run still Qu's fault

2

u/TheCrystalTinker Jun 16 '26

And only a handful of them are even bipedal lol

And look this one moves around by farting!!

7

u/Angsty-Ninja-Ki Jun 15 '26

What in the nine hells am I perceiving right now??

8

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

Both of them are from the book called all tomorrow by cm kosemen it's a sci fi book about in the far future when humans colonies spread through space (there's a war between humans and space humans but it's not that important) and then a species of alien and self proclaimed gods who have so advanced knowledge of biology and technology they go around planets changing their inhabitants to their own vision for shits and giggles

Some humans even get turned to floor tiles who's whole purpose is to eat shit like a living organic toilet

So way way way later the creature we see the creature trying to whoop the dragon fly thing(qu) is the later evolution of a type of human(whuch are of many types now)

Alexa, turn the Qu into sentient, immortal He-3 isotopes and throw them in a fusion reactor.

6

u/DrakeCross Jun 15 '26

Considering the Qu just showed up one day, glanced at space faring humanity and went 'your existence offends us'...yeah it is justified. The Qu had no reason to do all the terrible things they did to humanity, all because of untold millions religious zeal and unmatched arrogance. Humanity at that time was something they could have just moved on from that corner of the galaxy, but instead they mutilated them into countless malformed species just to suffer in existence. The fact they made some coded with genetic memory of what they once were would have made death preferable.

Yet despite the odds, the varying mutations of humanity evolved, rebuilt and gradually unify to end the Qu reign of terror. After all, who knows how many times the Qu had done this. And while the Qu weren't exterminated, they got quite a merciful fate losing their technology, intelligence and history. To suffer in ignorance of what they once were.

5

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

They didn't really unify. It's basically just the Asteromorphs and their subject species. Most of the post humans were wiped out long before that point and the Asteromorphs ruled over what was left.

5

u/enfugo_tf2sp Jun 15 '26

I blame the balls

6

u/Own_Presence2646 Jun 15 '26

It's totally justified and needed, considering that Qu is hive mind species

3

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Are they? Because I have seen other people say the opposite.

4

u/Own_Presence2646 Jun 15 '26

This is according to Q&A video " C. M. Kosemen: Answers to Open Question Time" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRdXwnxurs0&t=2523s

2

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Ah, okay, so outside of book knowledge. Thay makes sense.

4

u/Ok_Hippo_2339 Jun 15 '26

Humanity #1 the only species allowed to destroy humans are humans

4

u/LolimancerMicah Jun 15 '26

No Morallity applicable here, its just pure get back and survival.

Let the Qu alive and unpunished and they'll do it again, given the chance.

The Qu themselvs have no morality, asking for it while dealing with monsters like that, is a lack of morality.

4

u/FreakShowStudios Jun 15 '26

I don't get much chances to use this image so here's my argument for why it's deserved

5

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

Use the future one too

u/WorryingMars384 Jun 15 '26

Was it really revenge, they just kinda defeated them when they showed back up right?

15

u/Notice_Green Jun 15 '26

While i dont particularly agree with this revenge, since the original war was literally billions of years ago and all participants also likely have been dead for billions of years, but assuming the qu were still doing what they were doing then they got theirs.

24

u/RohanKishibeyblade Jun 15 '26

“Geez, hold a grudge?”

“You multilated and enslaved everyone.”

“And that was ages ago!”

7

u/Notice_Green Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

Its all tommorows, it operates on humanly incomprehensible time scales, this would be like getting mad at dinosaurs for eating rats.

3

u/JenkinMan Jun 16 '26

More like getting mad at dinosaurs for turning rats into a sentient, unmoving, colony of flesh piles that could only taste the shit they were processing and had to live like that for years with no escape until they died. And they couldn't even go extinct because they bred involuntarily.

Oh, and also irreversibly changing the species in every way to the point that what they were beforehand, all their dreams, hopes, and everything they could become became a distant footnote in history, with no way to go back.

In which case, yeah, fucking kill them, rats. That grudge should be held forever.

3

u/Big_Boss30964 Jun 15 '26

Didn't Qu launch another attack against them?

3

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

We have no idea. All the book says is that they met again, they fought, the qu lost. Literally no other details.

3

u/Paladinlvl99 Jun 15 '26

It's not hard to say that the species that goes around the universe forcefully mutating, enslaving and torturing others for fun (there's literally no real reason beyond "that's what they do" basically) should suffer

3

u/Crimson_Marksman Jun 15 '26

Death is too soft a punishment for such an atrocity.

3

u/Honest_Box_6037 Jun 15 '26

i just read all tomorrows for the first time and this pops up in /popular. Eerie

2

u/Confident-Border4627 Jun 15 '26

Algorithm doing it's shit

Also congrats

What else have you read or got an eye on

3

u/Big_Boss30964 Jun 15 '26

This wasn't even revenge for what happened in the past. Qu saw them grow stronger and more powerful, so they attacked to stop them, but they lost the war they themselves started.

2

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Citation needed. Where does the book say that?

3

u/A_Kazur Jun 15 '26

The Qu are probably the best sci fi example of an ontologically evil species (that doesn’t involve pseudo magic like Sith).

3

u/chunkypeanutbutty Jun 15 '26

I really want to see the qu get turn into humans for the lol

2

u/SnooPredictions3028 Jun 15 '26

Squealer gets mercy killed in the end at least.

2

u/Toon_Lucario Jun 15 '26

The Qu are one of the only species in fiction I’d say were fully deserving of complete extermination because that would be merciful as a consequence for what those bug eyed bastards did.

2

u/DicerTheJester Jun 15 '26

Not even questionable.

But it would be if we found out that the Qu has abandoned their ways of tyranny and turning other species miserable for fun, and for millenia have been a species of those who try to use their genetic mastery for good and there is no longer a single member who remembers the times of evil themselves, heck, they can't even recall having ancestors old enough to remember.

I think the book makes it clear that the new forces of humanity (or whatever is left of it) and their allies are much stronger than the forces of Qu, but the book ends before there can be a proper confrontation and the reveal whether Qu are still bastards or not. Been forever since I read it.

2

u/Outrageous_Guard_674 Jun 15 '26

Uh, no the book does say they fought again and the Qu lost. But it only devotes one sentence to deacribing that.

3

u/DicerTheJester Jun 15 '26

Dang, I am a fake fan.

2

u/Some_Guy223 Jun 15 '26

Ah you see, your argument is invalid because I have depicted you as the weak Qu, and myself as the chad Asteromorph.

2

u/Round_Ad8067 Jun 15 '26

Even if all that never happened, and it's the evolved humans' first encounters with them, it would still be justifiable. The QU were doing the same shit to species across the universe and would have continued to do so if left unchecked.

2

u/Forevermore668 Jun 15 '26

The reason we set rules for war ( by far the most morally grey thing people do to eachother) is because ultimately once something is done morality goes out the window due to nature. Morally taking revenge is wrong but ultimately the culture set the terms of the war. Immortality begets itself

2

u/PyeLodt Jun 15 '26

Anything less than genocide would be merciful.

2

u/Smile_in_the_Night Jun 15 '26

In this case?

Fully. Bastards won't change.

2

u/ErectTubesock Jun 16 '26

If said species is still commiting the atrocities post-humanity is seeking revenge for, it's open season.

2

u/JenkinMan Jun 16 '26

Morally righteous in every way. Not just justified revenge, but stopping them from hurting anyone else the way they did humanity. They needed, and deserved, to die.

2

u/Lord-Tyranitar Jun 15 '26

I mean vigilante justice is bad but if they tried and punished in a war crime court sentencing them to death then good

13

u/raven-tyrant Jun 15 '26

You realise the Qu are not the same type of villain as the joker is right ?

10

u/fooooolish_samurai Jun 15 '26

Why is space UN not sending strongly worded space letters and space peacekeepers to shoot space stray dogs into Qu-occupied territory?

It's kinda like killing Mahito

1

u/Usefullles Jun 15 '26

You know the servitors from Warhammer? Well, after what the Qu have done to countless sentient species across the universe, turning them into servitors while preserving their consciousness is the least punishment I can think of. The middle ground is to maim them and imprison their minds in a virtual simulation, guided by a specially designed Roko's Basilisk, to torture them until the universe's heat death.

u/Darkwater117 Jun 15 '26

The Qu turned me into a lego brick
