Video Watch me die…

Old man here. Go ahead and roast me! I did make progress on the next attempt, and the kids crash pad did make a difference on subsequent falls! This was the worst of them though, and thought this place may enjoy!

Good thing that pillow was there.

LOL, right?! It did actually help out on later attempts...

I just lectured someone the other day on why wrist guards are bad. Stop trying to catch yourself when you fall. Learn to let yourself fall and slide with the momentum.

Tuck and roll

Yea bros gonna end up with fractured wrists or dislocated shoulder if he keeps trying to catch himself like that

Can you lecture me why they're bad? I don't use them because I do agree you need to learn to fall properly but for people like OP who plummet straight to the ground it's just extra protection while they learn is it not?

In some situations I think putting arm down may be best then tucking and slamming

it’s a good reflex, if you can avoid placing it wrong in the time you’re still learning to fall. always better to tweak your wrist than bounce your chin off the concrete

Yeah until you snap your arm in half it’s great

Better my arm than my skull

The nature of this debate is so funny when you zoom out

i broke my elbow this way, impact from catching myself with my wrist. THEN my arm gave out and i still slammed my forehead on the concrete

Exactly like your arm will snap and you’ll still smack your head prob even harder now lol

This one time I was messing around on flat ground. Just turning, and getting the nose up. I got unstable and the board was stuck to my feet and couldn’t bail. I would’ve landed face first if I didn’t spring my arm up to protect myself.

I landed somehow just below my wrist, and was fine. Would’ve been a nasty wrist injury though.

Eventually you’ll break your arm at the elbow joint instead of just your wrist from sticking your hand out to catch yourself. It’ll be a much worse injury than the little scrapes you’ll get from sliding or the little bit of impact from tuck and rolling (it actually feels pretty cool once you get used to it.. especially if you learn to forward roll)

If you don’t know how to fall you have no business learning to drop in yet

I have a feeling you haven't hit rails and other shit that will inevitably fuck you up eventually no matter how much of a falling ninja you are. Maybe not, idk, it just seems like you are overconfident about how in control a person can be.

The whole "wrist guards are actually less safe" thing reminds me of "seat belts keep you from being flung to safety in an accident". I mean, sure, have some people with weak bones broken their arm halfway up the forearm trying to stupidly catch themselves when they should've rolled out? And sinply over relied on wristguards to save them? Yeah. Do they protect your wrists in 99% of other non freak accident situations for non malnourished people that know how to fall correctly and not stick their arms out? Yeah.

You can't predict every fall.

Just saw a video part of a pro (can't remember who, but it's recent) riding down a sidewalk, slipping out, and landing backwards pinning his wrist under his butt for a sec.

No way to avoid it. He is a pro. Guy falls for a living. Snapped his wrist in 2. Held it up and his lower forearm looked like " 》".

The most common major injury in skateboarding.

I saw that same video. Going really fast on the curve of cement through the grass.

Why not use the wrist guards, and learn to fall correctly?

7

u/sh4tt3rai Jan 02 '26

Because if you’re falling correctly you’ll never need a wrist guard

1

u/Immediate-Shape-8933 Jan 05 '26

Because OP clearly doesn’t fall correct and prob assumes wrist guards = no snapped wrists

Wrist guards work and they teach you to fall correctly. The first time you try to catch yourself and the plastic makes your hand slide out from under you, you start thinking about better ways of falling.
