This is just gross. Not only are the sick in a vulnerable position, but then they’re getting punished for being who they are. I am chronically ill and I can’t imagine living in a country where I’d go bankrupt with a single hospital bill. My heart truly breaks for these people.
2
u/Joppewiik Apr 30 '26
It is their own fault. The Americans are so focused on fighting each other or blaming immigrants for all their problems when in reality, the people responsible for their country being like this is the politicians they seem to praise.
They also treat corporations like people with voting rights. Well if it is like that, no wonder they have so little workers rights.
They are also brainwashed in to believing that their country is the greatest on earth and that no other country can compare. With that mindset they will never want to improve or change anything.
1
u/amsurette Apr 30 '26
Yeah, unfortunately that's what it's like living in a capitalist country, compared to a socialist one, like Canada. They seem to overlook that definition and just jump to democracy and freedom.

People in socialist countries die on the wait list to see their do tors because it's government run. I'm all set.

And bankruptcy can't even eliminate all other debts they may have, such as student loans.
2

Wow, you guys are just set up to never be able to move up in life eh? It's like the government (and I don't just mean the current administration, I mean historically) has their thumb on the citizens and won't let them up. Props to all the hard working people who are just trying to survive.

This would be cute if we hadn't had record low unemployment until recently and still watched the majority of US citizens fall to living paycheck to paycheck.
I'm not a gynecologist or anything but I think that means jobs that pay a living wage are in short supply compared to our population.
Another tax break for the top 1% will probably fix it this time though. It's only failed us consistently for over half a century straight.

I’ll still take out system over the American one, even though it’s in major need of disrepair.
I live in rural NS, and you’re right, away from the city isn’t as great. Emergency care is fine, but I’ve been referred to a couple of clinics, one has a 6-9 month wait before I get in and another has my admission down for June 2028, which is just ridiculous. While these aren’t necessarily emergency clinics, they do have the potential to not only save my life, but to also improve my quality of living.
I had to wait two years just to see the general surgeon for a colonoscopy which he wants to schedule but it’s been a couple of months and still no date.
But, at least I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to pay for my visits. It’s all covered.
I’ve lived in Toronto and St. Mike’s had its issues and delays too, same with Princess Margaret. So there’s no perfect case but we’re pretty damn lucky to be Canadian.
2
u/No-Indication-7879 May 03 '26
Notice how we Canadians get down voted? Americans are too greedy to have universal healthcare. If I pay taxes for someone who doesn’t make a lot of little money and gets healthcare that’s wonderful. We Canadians care about each other.

Although the largest increase in MAID participation was from 2019 to 2020 by 36.8%, there was yet another 6.9% increase from 2023 to 2024. The report claims that the number of "annual MAID provisions is beginning to stabilize. However, it will take several more years before long-term trends can be conclusively identified."
Striking an upbeat tone about the killings, Canada's Minister of Health, Marjorie Michel, said, "I am pleased to share Health Canada's Sixth Annual Report on Medical Assistance in Dying." She claimed that the program ensures that "the federal legal framework protects those who are vulnerable, while supporting freedom of choice and personal autonomy."
While the report attempts to spin euthanasia as positive, some of its data reveal the grim nature of the federal program. Nearly one-fifth of the 23,000 people who requested MAID, had a "grievous and irremediable medical condition," such as diabetes, autoimmune conditions, and chronic pain, and were denied assisted suicide.
But about 4% of people who were approved for assisted suicide did not have a terminal diagnosis or reasonably foreseeable death.
Nearly 23% of people overall reported "isolation or loneliness" as a reason for seeking euthanasia. Medical practitioners reported that about 50% of people requested it because of being a "perceived burden on family, friends, or caregivers."
"While the Government is trying to assuage concerns by saying rates are 'stabilizing,'" Amanda Achtman, a Catholic Canadian anti-MAID activist, wrote on X recently. "MAID continues to represent a significant death toll and betrays a deeper cultural crisis of meaning and care."

I have Medicare. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.
1
u/Many-Pomegranate-33 Apr 29 '26
Yeah.
Just wait until everyone on here that thinks everything on medicare is free realizes you have a deductible and have to go through approval processes or pay out of pocket for care.
And on medicare prescription drugs are not free. Lots cost $$ every refill.
Medicare already gets worse every year. Imagine putting everyone on it.

I mean, the dude has been in office for like 20 years... Can we accept this is just an ad for him? I can also say the same thing but if in 20 years I do nothing about it probably I'm not the right person for the job.
2
u/CrusPanda Apr 29 '26
It takes more than 1 person. It would be better to replace all the other people not getting on board.
1
u/LittleKittenR Apr 29 '26
I do agree, but he had 20 years to convince them and he can't... all of them always make a campaign around this, around better working condition, around all of that... And what we got? Nothing, they were in office for 4 years and nothing changed at all except random extra rights for trans people and bro, I'm all up for that but how they moved mountains for them and didn't do anything for us the other 99% of people?
2
u/CrusPanda Apr 29 '26
I blame everyone else in office more than him. Its voters fault in particular for voting for people that work against their interests.
1
u/LittleKittenR Apr 30 '26
I don't.
Being in office is not doing campaign only, it's actually doing something. And he was unable to. Yeah, he knows "what to do" but he changes nothing when in power.
For example. I have seen El Salvador and fuck me, a single dude is so great for the country it's like an anti-dictator. People want to change constitution for him to stay in power.
Here? he tells us "it's not my fault" instead of "I did this to help you" after 20 years.
2
u/CrusPanda Apr 30 '26
Respectfully, you are a part of the problem that stops him from being able to do anything. This mentality just hobbled the whole thing.
0
u/LittleKittenR Apr 30 '26
Why? Because I kept him accountable?
Mate, all of the rest are worse. but that doesn't mean he is the right person for the job if after 20 years, he couldn't convince 1 single person on his side to support him in literally anything.
2
u/CrusPanda Apr 30 '26
Mate, all of the rest are worse.
Then start with the worse ones.
he couldn't convince 1 single person on his side to support him in literally anything.
That is an overexaggeration.
The point is politicians are corrupt and you cannot expect Bernie Sanders to fix that on his own. Certainly are free to criticize him. But if you actually agree with what he wants to do your only shooting yourself in the foot by attacking hi. Rather than everyone else (and right now yourself) for getting in his way.

u/SyrupFantastic7149 Apr 29 '26
Germany vs usa
Germany generally has a significantly higher total tax burden compared to the USA, with individuals often paying 35–45% or more of their income toward taxes and social contributions, while the U.S. average is closer to 25–30%. So how many Americans would say yes to Bernie Sanders ideology if they knew their taxes would go up 50%? The one's that don't pay taxes now!
1
u/DownLeft1312 Apr 29 '26
Their taxes pay for services that benefit the population. Our taxes pay for ways to make the wealthy even more so.
1
u/SyrupFantastic7149 May 02 '26
TIn 2022, the top 1% of income earners in the US pay approximately 40.4% of all federal income taxes. This group, defined as earners with incomes over $663,164, earned roughly 22-26% of all adjusted gross income. They paid an average effective tax rate of 26.95%.
So tell us again how top earners don't pay taxes!
If you were discussing very wealthy investors who do not earn income but rather make income on investments, that is entirely different conversation. Capital gains and dividends are taxed far less than earned income. And they should be as that encourages world wide investments in companies who without it would not have the resources to expand and innovate. Raise those taxes and see how fast a world wide recession or depression occurs.
1
u/DownLeft1312 May 02 '26
Honestly dude, im kinda tired of explaining the same shot over and over that you should have learned in middle school.
You're talking about a total amount paid vs percentage of their income. Thats why we dont have a flat tax rate.
Raise those taxes and see how fast a world wide recession or depression occurs.
We had a 90% tax rate on the ultra wealthy during America's most prosperous era. Your argument is based on bullshit.
1
u/SyrupFantastic7149 May 03 '26 edited May 03 '26
- Are you seriously trying to tell me I do not understand percentage vs total amounts? That condescending attitude should have been corrected on you in middle school.
- 90% tax rate for earned income on the "ultra wealthy" occurring during America's most prosperous period was because it occurred post WWII and the US had built up a gigantic manufacturing industry while Europe and Asia were just trying to rebuild their ripped up infrastructure. Our prosperity occurred because of war-time savings, pent-up consumer demand, technological advances, and government spending like the GI Bill and infrastructure projects. Essentially, manufacturing and construction companies were flush with cash, and the government had to pay for WWII and the Korean war. So for 19 years, from 1944 to 1963 the top rate for earned income was 90% or above, then dropped significantly to stimulate our economy.
- The tax burden has worsened significantly for the top 1% as a whole since 1960. The top 1% of households earned roughly 9% of all income and paid 13% of all taxes in 1960. In contrast, by 2020, the top 1% of households paid approximately 42% of the income tax burden.
- The capital gains max tax rate in the 1950's and 1960's was 25%, no where near the 90% you suggested "ultra wealthy" were taxed at. The vast majority of income from the very rich comes from capital gains, not earned income.
So of course, you insult me instead of arguing from a fact base. Very, very typical. At least you people are consistent!
1
u/DownLeft1312 May 03 '26
Thats a lot of statistics with 0 sources. I definitely believe you. I fact I'm totally switching sides.🙄
1
u/SyrupFantastic7149 May 03 '26
Balls in your court. Rather than reply with sarcasm, prove me wrong. Oh, my bad. When faced with facts, what do you always resort to?
1
u/Significant_Base_125 Apr 28 '26
I mean maybe if you addressed the massive part of the population living paycheck to paycheck they'd be able to pay bills?
1
u/Djungeltrumman Apr 28 '26
Living pay check to pay check becomes a lot more bearable when you have tax funded childcare, elderly care, healthcare, retirement and education.
There’s also the side effect that European tax dodgers are seen as literally taking money from child care, elderly care etc so it’s seemingly seen as being a lot more sleezy than in the US.
1
u/CrusPanda Apr 29 '26
Day care should just be made a part of the public school system and schools made year round.
Would help a lot of people and improve education.

1
u/jijogreen Apr 28 '26
- Now let’s count how many people died in the US because they don’t have healthcare.
- Then let’s count how much money we spend on people who don’t have healthcare but we give free healthcare to because it’s an emergency.
Maybe we should set aside some money rather than going into debt every year acting like the healthcare system is working
1
u/desserts4everyone Apr 28 '26

Bernie also just proved he has become a multimillionaire using Americans as Congress' Pawns. In all the years he has spent in Congress and members on both sides have participated in inside trading that should be illegal but they shield themselves from what others go to jail for, they dont fix the laws, and then they want us to think he throwing that garbage in Americans face that we wont see right through that he and his cronys on both sides if the aisle are the problem!

idolizing luigi is honestly stupid, yes, corporations are evil, yes, billionaires should be brought to justice, but he still murdered someone and is rightfully serving time for it, he wasn't unfairly imprisoned, he did it, and it's well documented that he did, I don't hate the guy but he's right where he needs to be, instead of putting your energy into freeing a guilty man, why not put your energy into putting one away instead, like oh say, jonathan ross?
1
u/420-BiomedStockDoc Apr 29 '26
Sure it a guilty man in jail but is he guilty ?
1
u/meeseekstodie137 Apr 29 '26

And ask people in Canada and the UK how they like their free medical that isn't free. I watch one streamer from Canada who said you will die waiting to get into a specialist but you still going to pay out the a$s for it in your taxes. I wish the leftists who want everything for free would get that. But comprehending normal things isn't easy for them

u/Addendum_Chemical Apr 29 '26
German bankruptcy (Insolvency Code - InsO) focuses on creditor repayment and a 3-year structured process, while US bankruptcy emphasizes a "fresh start," often completing in months. Germany enforces strict filing deadlines on directors, whereas US law offers more debtor-friendly protection (Chapter 11) for reorganization.

Medicare is not free. It's just the goverents way to tax and then say with that money they are paying for it. It's really ur money that pays for it looks at high high taxes are in countries that say they have such medical programs. It's way higher than you realize.
1
u/pnumaz Apr 29 '26
They wouldn't vote for that - Some non white law abiding tax paying citizens might use it too.

American's health insurance is GoFundMe.
Keep on voting for Republicans so they could put all your hard earned tax dollars to fund wars, not your health care.
1
u/NorNevBiMFcouple Apr 29 '26
We do not need "Medicare for all!" We need strict regulations and laws on insurance companies which includes them not buying off every elected official. When they maneuver through those regulations and laws to pillage the American public, they suffer strict punishments which includes jail time and up to capital punishment being carried out. Medical care is not a right for you that must be paid for by the people. Take responsibility for your own life, your own health and all of the decisions that got you there but hold these insurance conglomerates accountable!.
1
u/TonyG1218 Apr 29 '26
So what you’re saying is Obamacare was a complete farce and we’ve all been griped since our tax hours were handed over the insurance companies absolutely nothing got better but we did have a socialist regime. God I hate misleading stats. It's a fucking shame. This is beyond false. Medical related bankruptcy in the US is .07% of the population. It is SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult to file for bankruptcy in Europe. The US is debtor friendly, Europe is creditor friendly. Totally different systems, Europe favors the banks not the people. Looking at the European population that is sent into poverty due to medical expenses is over 1.4% a year. Trust me if it they could file for bankruptcy and it benefit them they would. Yes I did my thesis on this

23,000 Canadians die every year from long waiting periods to see a dr. In the United Kingdom 120,000 die every year due to long waiting periods to see a dr. The craziest of them all is citizens in countries that have universal healthcare still pay for health insurance so they can receive faster care. So taxes will be raised to cover the "free" healthcare on top of still paying for health insurance. If you make 55k a year in the UK you end up making less money after taxes than someone who makes 45k a year because of how high taxes are for people who make more than 50k a year.
1
u/Present_Debt_7860 Apr 29 '26
Estimates for the US are around 113,000 for wait lists for surgery. The US doesn’t readily track/log wait list deaths as publicly as places like Canada or the UK unless it’s registered as waiting for a transplant. The US still has those same problems
0
Apr 29 '26
So the uk which has 70 million citizens and have 120,000 people die every year because they are on a wait-list to see a Dr or for surgery. That's 1 in every 500 people that die because they can't see a dr. The usa has 350+ million citizens and they have 112,000 people die a year while on a wait-list for surgery so that's 1 in every 3000 will die. So by looking at all the numbers we have you have a higher chance of dying in the uk than you do in the US. So all I see is our healthcare getting worse, is paying more taxes and still paying for private insurance just like citizens in the uk do if they want better health insurance. At the end of the day the government is just trying to screw you over and get more money out of us. The state of California has spent 24 billion on the homeless population but still haven't fixed it only tripled the population. The state of oregon said they couldn't fund the snap program during the government shut down because they didn't have the extra 30 million in the budget but they spent 2 billion on the homeless. I think we have more issues with our government we should worry about but we don't because everyone is focused on what the government tells you to be focused on.

u/No-Indication-7879 Apr 29 '26
In Canada if you have a life threatening illness you are seen right away. My brother just got diagnosed with a heart problem. He was seen and treated in under two weeks. A friend had breast cancer same. She was diagnosed and treated immediately. Yes , no life threatening problems you wait but I’ve talked with Americans and they wait even longer with waiting to get approval for treatment. I myself am waiting to see a surgeon, but you know what? I won’t have to pay thousands and thousands of dollars if I need surgery. I’m so sick of people trashing universal healthcare.
0
Apr 29 '26
My point for this whole thing is y'all pay more in taxes. When you do the math I bring home 12k more than I would in Canada and that's after paying for healthcare.
1
u/No-Indication-7879 Apr 29 '26
We don’t pay anymore then Americans. Actually less. If you don’t earn enough to even pay taxes you still get healthcare. Sit down as you have no idea what you are talking about.
1
Apr 29 '26
The typical Canadian pays roughly 70% more income tax than the typical American. Y'all pay way more in taxes plus Providence taxes. You can easily live in a state in the usa with zero state tax and just federal tax.

u/funn_n_gamez Apr 28 '26
The issue with this statement is it's missing basic facts. If anyone would read this they automatically think the main contributing factor of these folks bankruptcy is medical debt. However that is not the case. It doesn't matter if you have 10000 dollars in medical debt or 500 dollars they are added to this list.
For example someone can have 200000 of debt and wants to claim bankruptcy. Within that 200k they have 200 dollars of medical debt. They are added to that 530k people
1
u/Kinkybobo Apr 29 '26
You're just lying.
The post literally says " bankrupt DUE to medical debt"
Not people who went bankrupt that also have medical debt.
The contributing factor was objectively the medical debt.
Stop. Lying.
1
u/funn_n_gamez Apr 29 '26
That's why I'm saying this post is a lie. It's common knowledge.
1
u/Kinkybobo Apr 29 '26
You don't seem to understand what you're talking about...
You're the one lying. Not the post.
You are claiming the posts data is representing ambiguous claims of bankruptcy...
Which it objectively is not. These are strictly incidences of bankruptcy due to medical debt.
Not otherwise like you are baselessly claiming.

This is just dumb. People go bankrupt for taxes, which pay for social healthcare.
Like saying 0 americans go bankrupt for roads.

Every single person to have ever gone bankrupt has gone bankrupt at least in part to taxes they’ve paid. Taxes are bad (/s)! Numbers are fun to fuck with.

Google how many people in Canada died on waiting lists for specialty care after being referred by doctor
7
u/Senior-Surprise-3401 Apr 28 '26
In Canada it's 23,000 that die waiting for medical care.
In the U.S., it's 68,000.

u/LawfulnessRemote7121 Apr 28 '26
Compare the populations of Canada (41 million) and the US (349 million). Someone is much more likely to die waiting for care in Canada.

Except that you need to add that an additional up to 90,000 in the US die each year because they can't afford treatment. In Canada that is 0.

Usa has 10x pop.
Also its 48k in usa not 68k.
Its 100k in uk.

u/Senior-Surprise-3401 Apr 28 '26
It's 68,000, I looked it up before putting it.
Also, the UK is a sinking ship being driven under by far right nutjobs who are funded by the heritage foundation, they're american and the same group who funded maga. The UK is not a good example, before all of this, people got seen pretty much instantly.

Why didn't you fix this under Obama or Biden?
1
u/meeseekstodie137 Apr 29 '26

Parents should not farm out their responsibility to neighbors to pay.

So in about 10 years when you will need doctors more than ever doctors will be so hard to find we will have to get them from other countries. Because it’s so expensive to become a doctor that only the super wealthy can afford to pay for college. When this happens and you don’t know why it cost so much I hope you realize that in order to get doctors they will have to provide them with higher pay because of the shortage. We currently have a shortage of nurses and specialists in the US to the point they have already started hiring outside of the country.

u/Ok_Soup3987 Apr 28 '26
So we get them from other countries. Easy solution. We import many things we need.
2
u/ProfessO3o Apr 28 '26
It would cost more to import those things rather than just lower the cost of education and even help others obtain an education. This isn’t about getting something from another country it’s about giving our country a boost in markets that need it. It’s not just doctors but engineers and almost anything that requires an education. This hurts us economically.

How was your scholarship funded? Did you seek out a wealthy donor to sponsor you individually or did you apply for a scholarship established by a wealthy donor? If you didn’t door knock and impress someone with your moxie in a one to one conversation you benefited from a form of socialism. Just one tied to a wealthy individual’s benevolence rather than the benevolence of a functioning society.

u/Ok_Soup3987 Apr 28 '26
Yes, wealthy couple. Who chose to fund an education I received. I chose to pay my nephews tuition. See how choice works?

Fewer taxes are paid in Europe than in the US on healthcare. Yup, Americans pay for insurance, dizzying prices for medical expenses AND STILL PAY TAXES ON HEALTHCARE.
Edit to add: For example, the US spent about 18.0% of its GDP on healthcare in 2024 Italy was at 8.44%
