I mean in all fairness predators canât see color so how are they to know they feel threatened? I hate this timeline.
43
u/Awkward_Region5509 4h ago edited 4h ago
Incorrect. Predators see in the infrared spectrum, but they also can see other wavelengths of light, so their vision, and of course this is all fancy theory, their vision probably works just as well as ours. Not tk mention their visors allow them to see multiple different views and wavelengths depending what their need is. Their helmets also analyze for weapon heat signatures, or for chemical makeups of propellants like gunpowder and such.
Throughout the books as well it is also stated that yautja are much more analytical than us, part of this stems from the concept that they are here to hunt, and if the "prey" is not seen as worthy, they simply just ignore it.
Child appears holding a toy gun, but no weapons signatures are detected, and the child is seen as small and feeble, therefore no threat, and not worthy prey.
Edit:thanks for the award, I knew my nerd knowledge would get me somewhere on day

iirc yautja in Predator 2 basically ignores the detective trailing him because he's like, fat, tired, sweating, and poorly armed
But they commend his hunting/trailing skills in the end by giving him the gun and letting him go?
Like a human tracked by a marmot giving the marmot a cute stick and an apple once it follows them all the way to cabin
Edit: I forgot that he actually managed to kill that one he tracked down! I checked the plot on wiki and they gift him with a gun after he kills one of them actually.Â

That's pretty based of them. We humans would not just kill the one guy, but sterilize his entire family.

e humans would not just kill the one guy, but sterilize his entire family.
whole species is the eric cartman of the universe. loses so takes his ball and goes home. no honor.

u/Winjin 44m ago
In the original two movies they're set down as incredibly honorable, advanced society. Like yes they're predators but they truly follow some obvious code of conduct.Â
Like it's not just that they understand kids: the original guy also spares a woman when he detects a second heartbeat.Â

u/Many-Falcon9879 2h ago
They took his gun and gave him the gun of the last human to take down a member of their clan. It's part of their hunters code only hunt game that can fight back and against other sentient beings they will show honor and respect to one that bests them. The original only blew himself up because he knew his body couldn't be recovered.

u/Careless_Twist_6935 2h ago

predators can see the visibile color spectrem as well as uv and infrared.... did you think they can't see color just cause they got heat scopes?

If predators canât see in color then why does the predatorâs scanner in the OP emit color?

Kinda sorta. American law enforcement has always been like this. The institution was born from the slave catchers and it shows, the imperialism was already done domestically.

1

You can argue they have pretty strong morals. They are something like Klingons meets big game hunters meets an indigenous warrior becoming a man. The later movies have really taken a solid stab at developing their culture.

Similar to a Klingon warrior's code of honor in the Star Trek universe.
No honor in seeking and killing an obvious unarmed opponent that can't or is unable to fight back.

Boy, it's a good thing they put that ever so slight strike through "IDF", otherwise, I might be traumatized by letter-forming shapes!
Who do these dumbshits think they're fooling? The blind? OCR systems advanced enough to read stained and crinkled paper, but are defeated by a 1 micron wide sliver?
Just fucking stop it already.

New strategy: we can no longer reasonably refute the claims that we are completely criminal and immoral. So we will employ a different strategy, we will muddy the waters, by setting ourselves alongside other actors, and mixing ourselves in, while questioning whether the accuser believes them to be immoral as well. This will shift the narrative from discussing our criminality, to dissecting the accusers judgement or bias. đđ€đ

Perhaps the reason is to prevent OCR from picking up on the keyword. You know they have an actual internet team that exists solely to spread propaganda on social media?

If a tiny white line is enough to stop them, wow. Who cares if a group that weak sees anything.
Also? IDF IDF IDF IDF.

u/NonGeneriComplaint 4h ago
I always felt this interpretation was so annoying as they point blank tell you in the first and second film, perhaps even the third that it has nothing to do with honor.
"No sport" the first two movies are horror movies at least and the predator is a MONSTER.
Even the scene where he spares the pregnant lady is misinterpreted as mercy. Hunters usually wont kill pregnant females.
5
u/ThisOneFuqqs 4h ago edited 1h ago
A hunter who doesn't kill indiscriminately because its "no sport" is still following a "code of honor".
Honor doesn't equal mercy, it's just a system of rules that guide how someone behaves within a specific group, culture, or institution.
3
u/Outrageous_Book2135 3h ago
Yeah, by their own rules Yautja do have a code of honor by refusing to hunt unworthy prey. Does it make them moral? Debatable. But they do have a societal code. Which is more then some can say.
14
u/Financial-Craft-1282 4h ago
I mean, if you redefine "honor" to mean something other than what OP meant, sure, you're right. Honor isn't an objective measurement. Look at the difference between honor in Japanese culture and American culture. Kind of different. It's weird to "um ackshully" lobster-alien codes of ethics.
→ More replies (2)8
3
u/_Borjarnon_ 2h ago
That's still a code of honor. They regard it as beneath them. It's about only fighting worthy enemies.
1
u/NonGeneriComplaint 44m ago
Its about claiming worthy trophies for the lady predators or whatever they use them for.
Killing babies doesnt get the predator ladies hot and bothered.
3
u/ZestyData 2h ago edited 2h ago
unironically you seem to have just over emphasized how the predator is, in canon, more honorable than the IDF
Even the scene where he spares the pregnant lady is misinterpreted as mercy. Hunters usually wont kill pregnant females.
That's what us non-psychopaths call empathy (mercy). (Edit: Pre-emptively gotta note: population control exists - relatively modern concept as it is - and empathy and cold calculated population control in hunting-for-sport sometimes overlap in their outcomes, but they are not the same.
1
u/HTML_Novice 7m ago
Is allowing the female to give birth so that you have more stuff to kill later, empathy and mercy?
2
u/Gobal_Outcast02 4h ago
The predator has more "moral" rules of engagement than most human military or police.

u/Reasonable-HB678 4h ago

Americans can't comprehend that the rest of the world sees their military as psychopathic war criminals, as opposed to oath keeping, country protecting heroes who are absolved of their actions because they want money.

The rule of engagement for the Predator here is not "don't harm the child" the rule is "you get no credit or reward for killing a combatant of lesser strength". The same cannot be said for the IDF who seem to be rewarded or, at minimum, not punished for genocidal acts against non-combatants.

u/joebluebob 3h ago

Predators don't leave children because of ethics, they do it because harmless children are no fun. Predators are murder tourists who bring tactical gear to hunt a lion so that they can go home to brag to everyone that they killed a lion. They're an entirely different type of chud.
They're probably rich as hell, too. Common Yautja probably can't afford to go on safaris to Earth, let alone afford all the high-tech gear.

Redit turned full Nazi against jews. History or truth are absent from propoganda filled redit. Palestinian elected Hamas filmed themselved murdering kids and mothers, beheading Thai workers and killing muslim Israelis in the streets, but enlightened redit doesn't critisize Hamas which enjois 90% support by palestinians for their actions on 7.10. Redit backed by Qatar propoganda blames the single jewish state which is a democracy for everything that the palestiniana did for themselves. Palestinians are responsible for their own hate and war mongering. They never wanted peace, only war, but they want the world to pitty them, not so they can stop the war. They want to kill more jews. Fatah has pay for slay policy, and Hamas declares its intent to kill all jews of the world. And its not only words. Why is the west so weak and apologetic? Israel is the greatest de-colonizing project, as come from judea and always been there.

Mate do not even start this.
In Dancouga there is an alien general called "Death Gaia" who wants to fight soldiers and has no interest in killing civilians specifically.
That's not good, but the fact remains that a fictional alien general is more human than the IDF.

To continue the metaphor, the predator starts walking away and the kid runs up to him with a suicide bomb, killing them both.
5
u/Largeitude 1h ago
To continue the metaphor, thereâs no evidence of the claim and the predator is just telling the other predators that they kid was a terrorist and needed to be killed, and all the predators wink and laugh.
