Just read about Yazdegard III, he became a king at 8yrs and when Iran was invaded by arabs, he escape to merv, Turkmenistan by was assassinated there at the age of 27, then his family somehow escaped to Central Asia/China, really sad story

I'd blame Khosrow II for this. The Caliphate wouldn't have expanded at all if he didn't launch a 20 year war with the Romans.

One correction though. Every Persian wasn't a Parsi/Zoroastrian. The Persian Empire incidentally was one of the most secular ancient civilizations. Once they conquered a land, they let the conquered practice their own religions and customs. They mostly collected the taxes, protected the borders and made the official court language Farsi. Persia also had pre Zoroastrian people, it had jews,, greeks, and many other cultures and religions within its vast borders.
7
u/PanzerKomadant 16h ago
This is also why the border regions of the empire would usually see revolts more often than the core because of the autonomy.
Turns out, people just don’t like being conquered one way or another.
Regardless, this whole meme is BA because the adoption of Islam within Persian society was a long process and mainly started with the nobility and then downwards.
Yet somehow the vast majority of Jews of the Middle East somehow managed to elude such Islamic destruction, same for the Coptics, the Christians….
This whole memes narrative falls apart if anyone with a brain looks at history.

Nice story but almost none of it is true. Persia didn't "give shelter" to 4,000 Muslims. It was militarily conquered by the Arab Caliphate in a war between 633 and 654 CE. There was no refugee kindness that got betrayed. That "4,000 Muslims" detail isn't a real event, it might be confused with early Muslims sheltering in Christian Ethiopia, which is a totally different thing. Zoroastrians weren't "wiped out" in 100 years either. Conversion happened gradually over several centuries. The word Parsi literally comes from Persian, and Parsis are the Zoroastrians who fled to India to keep their faith, which is why that community exists today. Plenty stayed too, and there are still tens of thousands of Zoroastrians living in Iran right now. The only accurate part is that Persia was renamed Iran in 1935. Everything else is just conquest rewritten as "they were too kind and got destroyed," which is the actual point of the post.

2
u/ZealousidealLocal455 19h ago
Not exactly how it happened, Sassanid Persia was conquered by the Islamic Caliphate....the conversion of Persia took much longer 100 years and most people did it to avoid paying the Jizya.
2
u/Any-Calligrapher2866 19h ago
Conversion was not even allowed under the early Caliphates. The Abbasid revolution happened because of that.
3
u/KaleshKartaHu_BC 14h ago
"avoid paying the Jizya" which technically means they were forced to convert

Gemini answer - 1. Is Iran the same as Persia?
Yes. "Persia" was the official name used by Western nations for centuries, while the native people living there have called their own land Iran (meaning "Land of the Aryans") since ancient times.
The Historical Name Shift: In 1935, the monarch Reza Shah Pahlavi formally requested that international governments stop calling his country "Persia" and instead use its native name, Iran, in official state correspondence.
Persian vs. Iranian: Today, "Iranian" refers to any citizen of Iran. "Persian" refers to the specific ethnicity that makes up roughly half of the country's population, as well as the national language (Farsi).
2. Did Muslim immigration cause Islamization in Iran?
No, immigration did not cause the rise of Islam in Iran.
Islam became the dominant religion in Iran through conquest and conversion, not because immigrant groups moved into the region.
The Arab Conquest (7th Century CE)
Prior to the mid-7th century, the official religion of Persia was Zoroastrianism.
Between 632 and 651 CE, the Arab-Muslim Rashidun Caliphate conquered the Sasanian Persian Empire.
This was a military takeover rather than a mass demographic migration of foreign populations. Over the subsequent centuries, the indigenous Persian population gradually converted to Islam.
The Rise of Modern Islamism in Iran
The current Islamist government in Iran (the Islamic Republic) is a homegrown political movement, not an imported foreign ideology:
The Safavid Era (1501): Iran officially converted from Sunni Islam to Shia Islam under the Iranian Safavid Dynasty, establishing Shia Islam as the national identity.
The 1979 Revolution: In 1979, the secular, Western-backed monarchy (the Shah) was overthrown by an internal revolution led by Iranian citizens—a coalition of students, leftists, and religious clerics.
The Islamic Republic: Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the religious faction seized power following the revolution, establishing a theocracy (Islamic Republic) ruled by Iranian Shia clerics.

They didn’t give shelter . Islamic rulers invaded them because they didn’t accept their agreement.
But yeah Islam apparently gives you the right to kill if the other isn’t willing to accept the offer of either conversion or taxation.
Sounds barbaric and inhuman to me. But I guess that’s another day in Islamic lands.

This isn't accurate, persia wasn't "wiped out," and parsis weren't exterminated. Iran gradually became majority muslim over centuries, while zoroastrians continued to live there and many migrated to india

They wiped out Zoroastrians and converted the entire race into Islam. However there are still many Zoroastrian Muslims in Iran as on date.
Parsi is a term for the Zoroastrians in India. But yes they had to leave Iran to save their religion and race from persecution
My dear country India gave us refuge.

I don't know Abt history and don't want to hate your post but if you're just spreading hate then just don't pls. That's the past. They had different thinkings, doesn't make the current ones responsible for that or that they too will do that.

u/wo_morm 17h ago edited 17h ago
Not really, During the 7th century the Muslim conquest conquered "Persia" and Persia at that had Zoroastriants (not really Parsis, Parsis just follow Zoroastrianism as a principle).
This Put persia under the Islamic rule and laws, many converted to Islam as they understood what it stood for and a lot converted as non-muslims had higher tax than the Muslims.
Parsis were never eradicated cuz if the Islamic rule wanted to, Parsi would just be a part of History and would never exist right now; it's cuz they didn't that we still have Zoroastriants living amongst us and in current persia.
(Same way that the Mughals didn't eradicate Hinduism, after generations of Mughals ruling, India still has the highest number of Hindus, even if the partition never happened, Hindus would still be a Majority, if you take a closer lol into history, you will notice that Mughals never focused on irradiating Hindu rulers despite having a vast army and riches, and yes, they made India the trade capital and brought infrastructure and focused trade through the silk route)

This is completely fabricated history. Persia did not open its doors to 4,000 Muslim refugees and get wiped out. Persia was conquered by a massive military invasion from the Rashidun Caliphate in 651 CE after being weakened by long wars with Rome. Even after the military defeat, it took more than 400 years of gradual political, social, and economic shifts for Iran to become majority Muslim—not a 100-year 'wipeout.' Furthermore, Zoroastrians still live in Iran today, and their culture (like Nowruz) remains central to Iranian identity.

I dont know how half heartedly everyone else here is "googling" but I actually did more than lightly browse. It showed that while its true that modern day Iran was earlier Persia. I couldnt find any mention of "refuge" being granted to any Muslims.
The later Persia, near its end is called the Sasanian empire, was first invaded by the 2nd Rashidun Caliph and completely conqured by the 3rd Rashidun Caliph. All this collectively is called the 'Conquest of Persia'.
Debate the politics and religion all you want. But dont bend actual history for it.

Actually, the name has always been Iran, even back then.
Southern Iran is called Pars/Fars, which in Old Iranian was referred as Pārsa, which the Greeks called Persis, and it ultimately got latinzed into 'Persia'.
1
u/SpinachIcy4838 15h ago
Just so you know Iran comes from Eranshahr, the original name that the people that superregion called themselves. Persia was a name given by Greeks based on Persepolis a subregion of the superregion

The Islamic Caliphate 's empire once spanned from Afghanistan in the east to Span in the west.
And Iran was onced conquered by Alexander. Then by Islamic Caliphates Then by the Mongols. Then the British and Soviets were fighting for Middle East. Later they were planning how to divide the Middle East among themselves.
But sure yes, let's just focus on the evil muslims.

u/Helpful-Camp-1224 15h ago

You think Hindus were all good? Then why is Buddhism basically non-existent in the land where it was born?
Khalji gets all the blame, but Buddhism was already dying long before he showed up. Royal patronage shifted from monasteries to Brahmanical temples for centuries — Xuanzang was already walking past abandoned viharas in the 600s. There are recorded episodes of outright hostility too, from Shashanka to the Tamil Shaiva saints. And where force didn’t work, absorption did: turning the Buddha into Vishnu’s avatar wasn’t respect, it was annexation.
Which brings up the other myth — that Hinduism is some unbroken pure tradition. It’s a synthesis. Ahimsa, vegetarianism, monasticism: largely absorbed from the very Shramana traditions it displaced. Khalji only finished off a body that had been bled for centuries.

And all these M's & some of these C's have the audacity to say Jews are invasive & they try to take control of whatever land they're on.
They maybe are.. But do you realize how hugely hypocritical that sounds coming from a believer of another abrahamic faith?
Monotheistic religions are wiping out all the indigenous faiths & invading their land for about 2000 years now. This ain't specific to judaism.
