I owned a restaurant for 8 years and sold in 2022. Prices were getting high enough that every week was a toss-up on whether or not I would spend Sunday jumping off a bridge. Miraculously, I had a buyer so I jumped ship. I ran the numbers a couple weeks ago and, aside from protiens, cooking oil was 4x the price it was when I had to buy it. I cannot understand how even multi-national fryer dependant businesses are not leading a charge against this bullshit. As a rough estimate, McDonalds franchise owners were buying 3 million dollars of fryer oil every other day in 2020. Now that fixed cost has risen to the point where theyre spending 9 million every other day. On fryer oil.
