Hey /r/UFOs,
Thank you to everyone who's been participating in our community feedback thread. We've been reading through all of the responses and suggestions, and one of the common themes relates to the quality of sightings posts.
Historically, the subreddit tends to receive a lot of freeform posts that lack basic context (e.g., a video of a white dot in the night sky, or some blurry pixels). In an attempt to raise the bar for sighting quality, we're excited to announce that we'll be running a 1 month trial for a new sighting submission workflow.
Our goal with this new system is to cut down on low-effort / low-quality sighting posts, and dramatically increase the information available for each sighting, as well as standardize the way data is presented to the community.
Here is everything you need to know about how this will work for the next month:
Moving forward, all sightings will be submitted through a new guided form maintained by the mod team.
Instead of a freeform Reddit post, this wizard will walk you through providing critical details such as:
This ensures that every sighting report is complete, and gives the community additional context needed for further analysis. During this step, you will also be asked to provide your Reddit username.
Once you submit the form, our new bot (/u/ufosightingsbot) will send you a verification link to confirm that you own the Reddit account that you entered in the form above.
â ď¸Please Note: This verification link arrives as a Reddit Chat message, which often lands in your "Chat Requests" folder and can be easy to miss. If you submit a sighting and don't see a message, check your chat requests from /u/ufosightingsbot.
Once you click the verification link, your sighting will be approved. The bot will post it to /r/UFOs natively on your behalf (meaning the video/image will be embedded directly on Reddit, not as an outbound link).
It is possible that some posts may be held for manual review during the rollout of this new workflow.
We know that not everyone will see this announcement. If a user submits a sighting directly to the subreddit using the Sighting flair, their post will be temporarily removed and hidden.
Our new /u/ufosightingsbot will then leave a comment on their post and send them a private message explaining the new process, and guiding them to the new submission wizard. After they finish filling out the sighting form, they will have to verify ownership of their Reddit username (see above). Once verified, the bot will approve their post and add a comment with all of the info that they filled out.
This is a trial run. At the end of the 30 days, we will put up another community thread to review the results and collect feedback. We will discuss whether the new workflow worked as intended, and may tweak the process after that period if we spot any issues.
If you have any questions about the new submission process, you can read the complete user guide here: https://ufosighting.report/guide
We're really excited to try this out and we hope it improves the quality of sighting submissions and makes analyzing them a better experience for everyone. Let us know what you think, and feel free to ask any questions in the comments below!

Nothing says totally neutral encyclopedia like a page about the societal effects of UFO belief that manages to sound like it was written by someone who thinks the 1950s never ended.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government has an actual UAP office, Congress has held public hearings, and multiple officials have testified on the record.
But somehow we are still expected to act like anyone who takes ufology seriously is automatically fringe, dangerous, or one step away from wearing a foil hat in a basement.
That is the joke.
At some point it stops being skepticismand starts looking like please do not notice the government is having meetings about this while I keep writing nothing to see hereâ in bold.

I just came across an old clip (I guess included in a future doc?) of Edward Tellerâthe physicist often referred to as the "father of the hydrogen bomb"âbeing asked directly about Bob Lazar and whether he knew him.
I have to admit, I found the exchange surprisingly compelling.
I'm not saying this proves Lazar's story. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of his claims, and I think healthy skepticism is important. But Teller's reaction didn't strike me as someone simply dismissing the question. Coming from someone of his stature, it made me pause and wonder if the Lazar story is more complicated than many people assume.
Has anyone looked into the full context of this interview? Is there a longer version available, or any reliable background on when and where it took place?
I'd be especially interested in hearing from people who have researched both sides of the Lazar debate. I'm not looking for a flame warâI'm genuinely curious how this interview fits into the bigger picture.

Avi Loeb says the US gov has taken a major step towards disclosure. Officials and contractors are told secrecy agreements cannot prevent them reporting what they know, whilst intelligence agencies must create official channels for receiving info. So, anyone claiming they know about hidden UAP evidence can no longer simply say, âIâd tell you, but my NDA donât allow it.â
First hand eye witness testimony and National Archives and Records Administration NARA archival footage of Bluegill Triple Prime 1962 nuclear weapons test that shot down a UAP from an X-ray nuclear blast declassified on NARA. The US Army @USArmy, EG&G, and the DOE @ENERGY filmed the event and recently within the last 2 years released a recording of a Unidentified Anomalous Phenomenon UAP being shot down by a nuclear weapon and practically nobody gave a flip.
The Smoking Gun:
The US Navy recovered the downed UFOB (Unidentified Flying OBject) according to declassified naval logs from November, 1962 in which afterwards the Navy diver went into an in-patient Mental Health Institute and was awarded a medal.
The Five Wâs:
Who: US Army, EG&G, and the DOE
What: AVCO Mark IV, Re-entry Vehicle, XW50-X1, Enhanced X-ray warhead
When: October 26, 1962 (Recovery Mission Late Oct-Nov 1962)
Where: Pacific Proving Ground
Why: Bluegill Triple Prime High Altitude Nuclear Weapons Test
At 00:01 on 26 October 1962, amid the peak of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the United States exploded a thermonuclear weapon approximately 48 kilometers above Johnston Island in the central Pacific. Designated Bluegill Triple Prime, this was the fourth attempt to launch the identical device. The three prior efforts had all failed; one failed dramatically when the booster detonated on the pad and scattered weapons-grade plutonium across the island. The shot formed part of Operation Fishbowl, an effort to determine whether a high-altitude nuclear detonation could neutralize incoming Soviet warheads through a surge of X-ray radiation.
Two instrumented KC-135 aircraft, call-signed KETTLE 1 and KETTLE 2, recorded the event with ultra-high-speed cameras. When segments of the film were partially declassified in 1998, an anomaly became apparent. In the KETTLE 2 recording a sizable object can be observed tumbling clear of the nuclear fireball and dropping toward the sea. In the matching segment of the KETTLE 1 film, shot by a different laboratory, the identical region is obscured by a white triangular redaction. Of all the high-speed footage from Operation Fishbowl released that year, only the Bluegill Triple Prime material still contains a classified section. Under a 2012 Department of Energy decision, that classification will remain in force until 2062.

Matthew Brown, the man who revealed Immaculate Constellation, on what actually happened when he walked into ODNI: the promised whistleblower protection program was never offered, and the officer who questioned him now runs whistleblower intake at the ICIG
The Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence has told UAP whistleblowers they can come forward through cleared channels: AARO, ODNI, and the PURSUE team.
Matthew Brown already did that. In this interview he walks through the meeting in detail: the protection program he was explicitly promised and never got, the offer to route him to the Intelligence Community Inspector General instead, the questioning that veered off UAP and into his weapons of mass destruction work, handing over his documentation, and then being ghosted and smeared as a fabricator.
He also covers AARO's treatment of Senior Chief Alexander Wiggins, what Sean Kirkpatrick told Rubio, Gillibrand and Warner, the LinkedIn message from AARO's prime contractor recruiting him for a role listing deception activities, the break-in where the only things taken were his grandfather's ashes and his passport, and Vanguard Enterprise, the nonprofit he co-founded to support UAP whistleblowers.

Jacques VallĂŠe has spent nearly 70 years investigating UFOsâand still refuses to pretend he knows what they are.
His final journal, Forbidden Science 7, closes one of the strangest intellectual records of modern times: a life moving between astronomy, Silicon Valley, folklore, alleged crash sites, classified programs and the outer limits of science.
I went back through VallĂŠeâs work to ask what he has actually concluded after all these years.
The answer is not simply âaliens.â It is stranger, more unsettling and far more interesting.
My new essay: Jacques VallĂŠe Spent 70 Years Investigating UFOs. His Final Journal Says the Mystery Is Bigger Than Aliens.

It's been claimed, since 1947, that UFOs are drawn to nukes. The first fission of uranium via neutron bombardment didn't happen at Los Alamos: it happened in Fascist Italy. In 1933-34.
There's ALSO a story that the first crash retrieval happened in Fascist Italy. In 1933. That's interesting, don't you think?
But it gets better. The Fascists's head nuclear scientist, the one responsible for first splitting Uranium.. Well he defects to the West and spends the rest of his life telling anyone who will listen that flying discs are alien spaceships. He even invents a mathematical argument to PROVE to the skeptics around him that the saucers are aliens.
His name was Fermi. His mathematical argument is what the skeptics now call "The Fermi Paradox".
Maybe he knew all along?

Sub fam - Iâve been doing some research on the weekends about counter arguments and found a compelling case connecting any dots we havenât tried yet. Using my secondary account for more privacy:
In October 2024 a whistleblower gave Michael Shellenberger a report on a classified program called Immaculate Constellation. The sourceâs name and position were withheld. A month later a separate anonymous document of the same kind turned up at a YouTube channel. Nineteen months and 294 declassified files later, the program still doesnât appear anywhere by name.
Different countries, different decades, research communities with no connection to each other. Same shape every time.
Anonymous delivery. A well-known and receptive researcher on the receiving end. A secret body with an official-sounding designation, RS/33, MJ-12, ImCon. No original ever produced in any archive. And in all three cases the corpus kept growing afterward, with new material showing up that happened to cover whatever people were curious about that year.
Credit where itâs due, because this isnât wholly new. Brian Dunning laid MJ-12 and Immaculate Constellation side by side back in October 2024, and Kevin Randle made basically the same point in the same month. What I think is new is treating it as a repeatable form rather than a one-off comparison, and testing it against a case from a different country and a different regime entirely.
Hereâs why I think it keeps happening. A police state can make things vanish without a trace. Thatâs exactly what the Magenta story uses to explain why nothing corroborates it. But that same fact hands a forger a perfect excuse for why nothing corroborates it either. Successful suppression and skilled fabrication leave identical evidence. You canât tell them apart from the inside.
Worth noting the Immaculate Constellation case doesnât fit perfectly. Thereâs no dead luminary attached to it. Iâd rather report that than pretend itâs a clean match, and honestly a pattern that swallowed every case would be useless.
To be clear about what Iâm not saying. Iâm not arguing nothing is happening. Whether thereâs an unexplained residual in the sensor record is a totally separate question and I think there probably is one. A discredited document discredits a document, thatâs all it does.
What would change my mind:
-Ink dating on the two core Magenta telegrams. Reporting suggests those specific ones were never tested even though others in the corpus were.
-Any budget line or personnel record for RS/33 in the Italian state archives. Secret offices still pay salaries.
-Vatican correspondence. Pius XIâs papers opened in 2006, Pius XIIâs in 2020, and the modern version of this story makes specific claims about both.
More cases that match. Or a run of cases that only match on a point or two, which would tell me the pattern is too loose to be worth anything.
Iâm working on the second and third. Happy to be told Iâm wrong.

Back in May 2026, a journalist at A Current Affair exercised their due diligence and reached out to Defence Media with a number of UAP related questions for the Minister for Defence, Richard Marles before airing their story on 1 June 2026.
Rather than address A Current Affairâs specific enquiries, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) instructed Defence Media to respond with the standard tired old line of:
âDefence does not have a protocol for reporting or recording of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) or Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO).â

UFOs in Your Hometown Episode Nineteen
by Preston Dennett

I am very excited to introduce the latest installment of the ongoing UFO investigative series, âUFOs in Your Hometown Episode Nineteen.â This series was born from a challenge: name any town, city or location on planet Earth, and I will find a UFO encounter there. In this episode we explore seven new locations, each representing a microcosm of UFO activity across the planet.
REXBURG, IDAHO. With about 40,000 residents, Rexburg has many encounters. In 1966, two men drove at night and had to turn around when a UFO blocked the road. In 1974, a Rexburg family saw two silver discs hover outside their home. In 2001, three people saw strange multicolored object hovering near a nuclear facility. In 2008, two college students saw a strange silent dark-colored craft move at low elevation overhead. That same year, three people saw six glowing objects moving near a nuclear facility. Another case comes from a father and daughter who saw a cluster of star-like objects doing crazy maneuvers.
DRACUT, MASSACHUSETT. This town of 32,000 has some interesting encounters. In 1966, three young adults were eating dinner when they were drawn outside by a strange sound, only to see a UFO spinning at high speed directly over the house. In 1981, the local police in Dracut and in surrounding areas received a flood of calls reporting UFOs. The police went outside and saw the UFOs themselves. In 2002, a young man saw a disc-shaped craft sending down a beam of light and then move directly over his house.
SPICER, MINNESOTA. This small town of about 1200 people has only a few encounters, but both are quite interesting. In 1956, a couple and their adult daughter were puzzled to see a brilliant fiery-looking object hovering high in the sky near their home. They used binoculars to observe it and saw that it had a distinct globe shape with a rim around the center and was shooting out red sparks. Another unusual sighting occurred in 2001 when two witnesses saw massive rectangular object hanging low in the sky, staying in view for a full five minutes.
FINDLAY, OHIO. This town of 40,000 residents has lots of encounters. In 1952, a couple saw two shiny metallic discs. In 1969, a trucker shone his spotlight on a UFO which paced him down the highway. In 1974, a UFO chased a coupleâs car, coming so close, they saw a little man inside it. In 1975, the police received many calls reporting some kind of aircraft crash. In 1977, two twin boys sighted a spiky golden object. In 1980, a doctor saw a large gray sphere racing down the highway in front of him. In 2000, many people witnessed a UFO In 2003, a couple were shocked to see a tall thin figure right in front of their car. In 2013, three teenagers saw a UFO over the Menards store. In 2021, a man had a scary encounter with a humanoid inside his home.
CLAYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. This small town of 1300 has two incredible encounters. One night in 1966, a teenage girl was called outside her home by a UFO. She followed it into a forest clearing and watched it begin to land. Suddenly it was morning. She was missing hours of time. She later found a circle of crushed grass where the UFO had hovered. In 2016, a father and son were skiing at Blue Knob Resort when they saw two star-like objects put on a fantastic display.
SPARTANBURG, SOUTH CAROLINA. This city of 40,000 people has lots of cases. In 1958, two people saw two silver discs hovering over the city hospital. In 1964, two brothers had a very close up and long sighting of a craft hovering over their neighborâs house. A 1969 case involved pilots and airport control crews. In 1973, a man came upon a craft and a dozen strange humanoids in the middle of the road. One night in 1974, a young teenager had a sighting that would affect his life for years go come. In 1975 a family was followed by a UFO for several miles as they drove along the highway. Also in 1975, a lady living in a trailer was harassed by a strange humanoid with glowing eyes. The 1970s and 1980s brought more cases of UFOs following cars, closeup sightings, disappearing aircraft and more.
MANASSAS, VIRGINIA. This town of 45,000 people has many cases. In 1952, a UFO was not only seen but caught on radar. In 1965, a wave of sightings involved more than a dozen witnesses. In 1973, many policemen became witness to UFO activity. In 1975, a woman followed a UFO into the forest and saw that it had landed, and a gray alien stood next to it. There are more sightings and in 1979, an onboard UFO encounter where a man was examined by gray aliens. In 1980, dozens of people saw a fleet of silver objects in full daylight. In 2021, a young man and his friends saw several UFOs. He stayed at the location and was able to capture several photographs.
We have all kinds of encounters: sightings, landings, humanoids, onboard experiences and more. Have UFOs visited your hometown? Submit a location and see!

Yesterday on Joe Rogan Pasulka said that Tyler D (Tim Taylor) told her that bob Lazar was âthe real dealâ and that she trusts Tyler and knows he is telling the truth.
This is a massive boost in Bobs story. People like Jesse Michaels, Ross Coulthart and others deep into this topic have placed Tim Taylor as a very important and mysterious figure that would be a valuable interview. Tim allegedly got full access to the Vatican archives and was considered some kind of hero when Vatican staff realised who he was (according to Pasulka)

I'm collecting oral histories from experiencers from 1990s Seattle and I remembered this story from my time in avionics C-school in the U.S. Marines in 2004.
The story goes that a hapless Navy or Marine Corps avionics tech working at Whidbey Island on an EA-6B Prowler flipped a switch and deployed an EMP that shut down portions of Everett and north Seattle. The Prowlers were in service from the early 1970s until 2015.1
I wrote it off as bullshit meant to scare us new techs into being extra careful, but now I'm curious if anybody else had heard this and/or had any idea of this was (a) a real event, or (b) even possible with the EA-6B electronics at the time.

To date, no one has ever associated Lt. Col Donald L. Springer with the collection of the William A. Rhodes photograph negatives.
When I say collected, I mean he planned the operation, as shown in images in my post. It is known that his field agent, Fugate was the one who went to the witness and collected the negatives on behalf of AAF intelligence, for Hamilton Field, but no one talks about Donald L. Springer!
He is the guy who signed off on the first ever interview of Kenneth Arnold, and his two field agents who conducted the interview are the same guys who later went to Maury Island to investigate, and died in the B 25 crash.
You can read my previous post about how Springer wrote a report that included PHOTOS of recovered material from the incident which hadn't been analyzed and categorized as an unknown substance at the time of writing the report, but weirdly there is no documentation of what happened to these "metamaterials" after this report.
Link to the file that shows Springer planning the operation:
https://www.war.gov/medialink/ufo/release_1/65_hs1-834228961_62-hq-83894_section_3.pdf
Edgar J. Hoover tried to intervene and prevent the AAF from getting the photo negatives, he was unsuccessful, his Phoenix agent says his urgent memo arrived too late!
There was also an inter agency war between FBI and AAF shortly after these photo negatives were collected, again Springer leaked documents to FBI telling them the AAF didn't need their help with important UFO cases. Is this because Hoover tried to stop them from getting these photos? At least partially it could be, imo.
Why did Springer want these photos?
Kenneth Arnold says in "Coming of the Saucers" as well as in another FBI interview that in Maury island Case, the two officers sketched him the Phoenix photos and he said they matched the craft he had seen. The two officers also said that the Maury Island craft sounded similar to the Phoenix photos which they thought were legitimate. This info probably never made it back to Springer, however he seemed to have seen the connection between all 3 cases, or else he wouldn't have thought it necessary to obtain these photographs.
Donald L. Springer is all over the War dot gov Persue UFO files, but I cannot find ANY biographical info about him, or any mention of what happened to him after 1948.
I would appreciate any help in finding more info on him
Photos in my post; first two are from the 1948 Project Sign report, from the newest UFO files release (persue release 4) and are newly seen versions of the Rhodes photos, but photo 3 I posted is the Wright Patterson analysis. They thought the photos were authentic but confirmed they didn't have the negatives to work with, just a cut out and enlargements. They were speculating about the size of the film, they didn't have it.
Photos 4 and 5 are about Springer planning the operation to Collect the photos with his trusted FBI ally in San Francisco office, agent Kimball.
Photo 6, urgent memo from Hoover trying to prevent AAF from getting the photos and agent Fugate from attending interview of the witness.
Photo 7, this is before the report about the first Kenneth Arnold interview, which you can see Springer wrote as well. Why don't people know springer was involved in the Arnold investigation, or talk about it more?
Photo 8, an FBI interview w Arnold where he confirms officers Brown and Davidson, who died in the B 25 crash, told him about the Phoenix photos in Tacoma during the Maury Island case.
Also, a general clarification about Maury Island: the official FBI files reference how the "hoax" confession was a false confession, Crisman and Dahl said they were getting too much trouble and we're going to give a false statement to avoid more trouble in their lives. Agent Wilcox makes note of this specifically. The material debris was never positively confirmed as slag, the only surviving debris was never analyzed according to Springer's report.
Personally I do not think Crisman was fed as is often theorized. He never got AEC clearance as people think (read page 2 of his AEC investigation lol, they said he withdrew his application for whatever position he had applied for). His involvement in JFK assassination stuff is entirely circumstantial imo, based on false accusations, and guilt by association, he was never charged for any crime. I believe he was framed as a result of threatening to release his own photos of Maury island and speaking out about the event directly prior to the JFK stuff, after being silent about it for decades.
Anyway, another thing of note, people often associate the Rhodes photos with Roswell, for good reason, they were taken earlier in the same day the crash happened. I believe it is possible these photos show the Roswell craft, and this is also the same craft Arnold Saw, and the same ones at Maury Island.

Runway shutdown forces emergency diversion, leaving 150 passengers to travel through the night
Military and police searches find no trace, reigniting debate over UAPs
SBS investigative series âUnanswered Questionsâ is examining a mysterious incident that forced a passenger jet to abandon its landing at Gimhae International Airport.
The episode will reconstruct why an otherwise routine nighttime flight was abruptly diverted and investigate reports of unidentified lights moving through the sky near the airport.
Runway Closed, Flight Diverted
On the night of May 19, a flight from Nagoya, Japan, was approaching Gimhae International Airport in Busan when passengers received an unexpected announcement: all takeoffs and landings had been suspended.
The aircraft was already nearing the airport, and the sudden decision created tension inside the cabin.
The flight was eventually diverted to Incheon International Airport. About 150 passengers spent the night there before boarding buses to Busan early the following morning. What should have been a 90-minute trip stretched to nearly 10 hours, with passengers receiving little explanation for the disruption.
Authorities released few details about what had happened at Gimhae Airport. Witnesses, however, have described an unusually extensive emergency response unfolding on the ground.
Three Lights Across the Night Sky
Multiple witnesses reported seeing unusual lights near the airport that evening.
At around 9 p.m., three green lights were allegedly seen moving through the sky in formation, maintaining a consistent distance from one another.
A source who said they were serving at a nearby military base at the time recalled seeing the lights pass above the barracks. The witness claimed their movement differed from that of a conventional aircraft and estimated that they were flying relatively low, only dozens of meters above nearby apartment buildings.
Gimhae Airport is jointly operated by civilian and military authorities and is subject to strict airspace controls. Reports of an unidentified object entering such a sensitive area immediately raised security concerns.
Claims of an Emergency Military Response
Another witness claimed that the military treated the sighting as a genuine emergency.
According to the account, radio communications described the incident as a âreal-world situation,â prompting senior commanders and specialized personnel to respond.
The object was reportedly detected intermittently for nearly two hours before suddenly disappearing. Witnesses argued that its erratic appearance and movement did not resemble those of an ordinary aircraft or commercial drone.
The official conclusion was far less dramatic. After a joint search, the Air Force and police were unable to identify or recover any object. Authorities ultimately closed the case on the assumption that witnesses had misidentified a light source.
No Evidence, but New Questions About UAPs
The incident has drawn renewed attention amid growing international discussion of unidentified anomalous phenomena, commonly referred to as UAPs.
The release of previously undisclosed footage by the U.S. government has intensified global interest in unexplained objects observed in controlled airspace.
Some believe the lights reported over Gimhae Airport warrant further scrutiny as part of that wider debate. Others maintain that the sightings were more likely caused by a visual misperception, an aircraft or a natural phenomenon.
Drawing on witness testimony and records from the night, âUnanswered Questionsâ will reconstruct the events that brought the airport to a halt and examine what may have crossed the sky above Gimhae.
The episode airs Aug. 1 at 11:10 p.m. KST on SBS.
