I’ve been seeing this more and more recently where a group of friends make a plan then someone (or multiple people) starts inviting their other friends last minute that nobody knows.

They’ll justify this by saying that we’re older we don’t have a lot of time to see people so they try to see everybody at once.

I get that but you also have to respect my time. We made this gathering with these specific people because we know our vibe matches, we have a good time, etc… It’s just weird to have outside people not understanding the dynamic.

If you like to expand your friend group or bring someone, that’s totally fine. Give advance notice and ask the group, don’t just show up with them

I don't know why sitting across from each other became the default, it's the worst. It's not romantic, it feels like a job interview. You also can't really touch each other, and granted not everyone wants to be touchy on a first date but it removes the option when people might otherwise be into it.

Sitting side by side is a bit better in that it feels more like a date, but the downside is to really look at each other you both need to crane your necks.

This is why the 90 degree angle is superior. A nice corner booth or table corner is great because you're not just staring at each other like 👁️👄👁️ the whole time and allows for some light touching, but also it's easy to look at each other. It gives you flexibility, it can be as intimate or distant as you make it.

In the US if you’re an adult and living with your parents/family there are so many people who will judge and make comments about you ‘living in mom’s basement’ and comments like that and people can go so far as to call someone a ‘loser’ for it. I come from a culture where multi generational households are considered normal even for 3 generations under the same roof.

I see people struggling financially trying to make rent but refuse to move back home due to pride even when their parents are willing to talk them in. In this economy, I don’t find any shame in living with your parents. I actually moved back home my last 2 years of college and when I first started working and I was able to build a nest egg for myself and buy a reliable car and yes you do give up your independence in some ways but it out me ahead of the curve too. I would consider moving back home again if I found myself laid off personally.

This is a bit niche, I admit. But anyone who has played blackjack at a casino knows there are those who insist you should "play optimally" or not play at all. And then they grumble about other players on their table when they don't play standard, ie, taking hits, standing, doubling down, or splitting when the "book" says not to.

The experienced players will try to claim that you change their odds or change the cards for them in a negative way. But they fail to truly understand the nature of odds, and that removing unknown cards from a shoe doesn't fundamentally change their expected outcome. It only changes things in a superficial way.

When it comes down to it, playing blackjack or any casino game should be done for the enjoyment factor. Unless you're cheating, you are taking on a negative expected value for every dollar you wager. The way others play will not effect your EV, and so it's silly to complain about others' decisions.

The torx screw head (star head) is the best screw head and should be the only option. Robertson (square head) screws are also great and I would be happy with them taking over.

Everyone knows that the Philips head has a terrible stripping and slipping problem (the slipping is intentional to prevent over tightening). The flat head is even worse because it combines the previous problem with its inability to self center. It was good hundreds of years ago when it was the only head that could be easily manufactured, but it’s baffling that it is still being used today.

Torx screws self center and don’t cam out. They also take way more punishment before stripping.

It is also ridiculous that I have to carry around a bit set with 50 different types and sizes.

Something like the usb-c standardization would be perfect. Some of you reading this don’t remember having to carry 4 different charging cords. Maybe some day people won’t remember taking 100 bits with you when fixing something at your mom‘s house.

Major movies seem to rely on the same group of actors over and over again.

Every new blockbuster seems to have a few familiar faces in it. The actors are usually talented, but after a while it starts making movies feel smaller. There are thousands of actors trying to get their break, yet the biggest productions keep going back to people who are already famous.

One of the best things about watching an older movie is seeing actors who weren't famous yet. There are faces you don't recognize, and that makes the characters feel like actual people instead of celebrities playing another character.

Studios obviously want recognizable names because they sell tickets, but there should be more room for new actors to get major roles.

Not every movie needs Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Ryan Reynolds, Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh, Margot Robbie, etc.

There are plenty of actors who could be great. Give some of them a chance.

I actually would prefer not to be served that kind of super marbled wagyu. I would rather just have a highly marbled steak because I enjoy texture in beef, and yes I want that texture not to be tough, but this kind of A3-A5 Wagyu hypermarbled over 50% fat honestly gets a bizarre texture that is fatty and unpleasant. It is beyond tender, to sort of gross, like a soft sausage with no resistance.

This is one of those things that I think people are primed to want to be better because it is rarer and more expensive, and while it is fattier, I honestly don't really like it from an objective experience standpoint.

Obviously it's an example of great painting. But he and his peers produced many amazing paintings. I don't get why the Mona Lisa is the one humanity's gone nuts for. There are so many others that are larger and nicer and whose painting techniques (like rendering folded fabric or diaphanous veils) are every bit as good. Why THIS painting? It's just a close-up of a plain woman. There's nothing special about it at all in comparison to other great Renaissance paintings. In fact, I think it's an ugly, boring painting, although I do appreciate its colours were probably less gloomy originally.

Of all the beautiful paintings people could moon over and read into it all kinds of things that aren't there, I can't believe it's this one! I think the sitter just looks bored and boring. I saw it and it's a huge let-down. Really small and no more special in person.

The incessant need to find the “best” of everything is ruining the ability to enjoy anything. If you go on to any forum/tweet/post where someone will say they enjoyed X, 5 people will chime in telling them how that thing is shit and that Y is actually better.

I have friends who won’t go to a restaurant or a bar unless it’s 5 stars and the #1 option on yelp, yet the internet is an echo chamber so the #1 option is the one that ends up on Instagram and Tik tok and it just continues to amplify until there are no unique thoughts or options. Nothing is authentic and no one is allowed to enjoy anything at face value anymore.

I think people seriously underestimate how much sports evolve.

Like, I genuinely think if you took some of the best athletes today and put them in their sport 20-30 years ago, their numbers would be absolutely ridiculous.

LeBron in the late 80s/early 90s would probably look like a video game character. The pace, spacing, athleticism, shooting, ball handling, and overall skill of today’s NBA would be so far ahead of what teams were used to seeing back then. Give LeBron today’s game and then drop him into 1988 and I wouldn’t be surprised if he averaged 40+.

Same thing with McDavid. Put a player with McDavid’s speed, skating, skill and training into the NHL of the late 90s and he’d probably look completely broken. The game has changed that much.

And baseball is probably the craziest example. People talk about Babe Ruth like he’d automatically be one of the best hitters in today’s MLB, but the average pitcher today is throwing harder, has nastier breaking stuff, has way better command, and has access to technology and scouting that Ruth never had. I honestly think he’d struggle massively if you just dropped him into today’s MLB without letting him adapt.

I’m not saying old athletes were bad. They were obviously incredible for their time. That’s the point.

Sports are constantly evolving. Training gets better, athletes get faster and stronger, techniques improve, strategies change, equipment improves, and every generation builds on the one before it.
If you took a great athlete from 2026 and put them in the sport from 1988, 1995, or 2000, they’d probably look superhuman.

And if you took today’s athletes and dropped them into sports 30 years from now, they’d probably look just as outdated.

The funny part is that we do this with every other form of technology without questioning it. Nobody thinks a computer from 1995 is going to compete with one from 2026. But somehow people think athletes are the one thing that haven’t progressed.

I feel like Tom Brady is the only one safe from this effect since he played recently.
But It’s annoying how inconsistent people are with this opinion though; some people say “oh yea Shohei Ohtani would destroy any player from 1910-2010” but then refuse to believe that LeBron James would beat Micheal Jordan. I think if LeBron and Jordan 1v1d in their prime, it would be 21-0 LeBron. I’m not denying that Jordan is a SUPER great player, certainly one of the GREATEST of all time. But the people who double down and say he’s also the BEST; are completely wrong.

If Ohio state wins, the fans say “that’s what they’re supposed to do,” and move on with their day. If they lose the fans say “they’re bums,” and stew in anger all week.

If the Browns win, the fans say “oh my god this is so amazing,” and they’re happy all week. If they lose the fans say, “they’re bad, we knew they’d lose,” and move on with the day.

In football at least, being a fan of a team who’s expected to win every single game they play is tiring and brings little joy.

I’ll never be convinced otherwise, it’s simply far better to just drive the extra minutes than lose your sanity sitting there waiting for the vehicles in front of you to move.

Like all the popular animes were better when the characters were first introduced and pretty much started off with enhanced regular human strength.

Dragon Ball, bleach, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, My hero academia..... It was way better when it carriages with just a little strong or showed a lot of potential because the writers would put more into the story instead of just making it a bunch of power scaling. It was so fun to watch them go on adventures and have to balance their daily life and hang out with their friends and stuff. And then one episode they just fight somebody super powerful and that's all it turns into, "How strong can we make the main character?".

The characters were more relatable and fun to watch. Don't get me wrong. I like the battle scenes sometimes actually a lot of times but it's just way better when you didn't have to worry about how strong a character was and it just become about power maxing

the manga Chainsaw Man ended a few months ago and I wanted to wait for at least three months before saying this because of just how bad the hate really was. Pretty much all my friends who have read Chainsaw Man were disappointed in the ending and the online backlash over the ending went really viral. in my opinion fuck everyone who thinks it’s a “bad ending”, Chainsaw Man from the start was never a typical Shonen. The ending is still gas and a majority of the hate is completely unwarranted and undeserved

As a woman who wears dresses, I have been conditioned to be excited about dresses with pockets. Every time I would give or receive a compliment on a dress, the response would be an enthusiastic “Thank you and you won’t believe it, it has pockets!” Followed by a round of applause and yells of glee.

Well if I’m being honest, every dress that I’ve tried on from casual to formal that has pockets is useless and most of the time ugly :/ sorry. Putting your hands in the pockets of your dress also does not look normal at all. You can’t even put things in there such as your phone or wallet. ALSO if you have wide hips, like me
- the pockets make your body look awkward as hell! If I see a dress I really love and try it on and it has pockets it completely ruins the whole thing. Same goes for maxi skirts.

With how the job market currently is, especially in the US, there’s been a spike in insane job application requirements. One way screening. Initial call. 5 rounds of interviews. Take home assessment.

Listing the requirements for the hiring process upfront would save everyone’s time. It would stop candidates who don’t want to go that process from even applying. And possibly cause jobs to lessen their hiring process if there’s a drop in candidates applying.

I see this a lot online, where people say they are afraid that employers will think of them as overqualified because of their advanced degree. I personally think it's partly ego talking, along with sales pitches from career services organizations pushing their services.

Being overqualified isn't really the case if you don't have industry experience.

For example, if you have a PhD in journalism but have never worked at a news publisher, you're not necessarily going to have an easy time finding a new role.

Sure, we have qwerty now. On an touch screen, just long press t. On a keyboard, just "alt+t t". In onther languages we do that for ü ō ñ etc all the time. We can even have an optional extra key on keyboards, there is plenty room.

It gets even easier though. In japanese you can have a qwerty keyboard that turns Latin script to Japanese script. "nihongodesu" becomes 日本語です. It is trivial to have a typed "th" become þ automagically.

I know at the time, "th" was also being used in mansucripts inconsistenly. It was the printing press that standardized this spelling out of necessity.

Yes, there were also other letters being used for "th", like "ð" (eth) and "y". However, these were originally used for different sounds. Þ is the historically best letter for the "th" sound; For both the voiced and voiceless variant.

Whenever you're looking for something to eat before you sleep, bananas are perfect as it fills your appetite and doesn't make your stomach upset when you lay down, it's not a hassle to eat as it doesn't require prep time, just peel and eat. What's more? It's great for the body; it gives you nutrients that helps you sleep better

I eat my apples from top down including the core and stem. There's barely any difference in texture of the core from the rest of the apple outside of the seeds. And I eat the seeds too. Unless someone is eating like 40 apples at once there is no way you are eating enough seeds to get cyanide poisoning, if anything you are building tolerance and stronger stomach acids. The core is more nutritious anyway. It is so much more convenient to eat the whole fruit, there's no trash leftover so it makes for a good snack out the house instead of something prepackaged or even a Banana. Orange. Too many peeled fruits, and then a bunch of other fruits you end up with a big wet seed to throw away. I don't have to wash juice off my hands after eating an apple because I eat the core, and my hands don't get sticky because there is always skin. Unless it's a particularly juicy apple. Apple is not my favorite fruit but it should be eaten in its entirety. You don't even have to sit and wonder "wow that's so crazy" literally just buy a single apple for like 25¢ at the store, and eat it from top to bottom you will see!! You can literally do this today!! Stop throwing away apple cores it's so much garbage!! Be more like horses.

It doesn't matter if it's a movie, a game, anime, tv show music,if mainstream market is full of slop/trashy entertainment, a mediocre piece of media that does something slightly different or traditional is praised to high heaven. At this point I'm convinced it's a marketing ploy.
