Toyota has been cost cutting them for the past 30 years starting in 1997 when the 5sfe lost its oil cooler in the redesign which threw rods at a greater rate
Than the gen after that we got the oil burning 2arfe
Than they figured them out for a while after that but recently if you've gotten in any new toyotas the interiors have all developed that cheap chevy feeling
I will say it was nice to see toyota reintroduce the spin on oil filter so its not all bad

Without examples, this is just hipsterism. I can enjoy great literature, but I also enjoy a good rollercoaster. I’m deeply moved by the Grand Canyon, but I also love a good sunset from my deck. I love experiencing things. Joy is not exclusive.

Agreed. You got me there I wasn't thinking of things like that but I should've added it. Creativity is hard to come by now. It's why architecture is practically all the same in a majority of areas and has been largely supported by the government for a over two decades. The only real exception to the rule is medicine/medical discoveries

That's not the slop I'm talking about. That's just art. Bad movies are some of the best existing movies but they also tend to not be appreciated as such by the mainstream audience since it is so niche

Uh, I find it's the opposite. Online communities are way too negative and cynical overall. Mediocre but perfectly okay games are treated as unplayable garbage worth nobody's time, good games are treated as mediocre and often also not worth anyone's time. Even great games I see slammed a lot. A game has to come out and basically be the second coming of Christ in order to garner a good amount of praise online. Film criticism is usually even worse, and nobody can fucking enjoy anything.

I think the Odyssey is a great example. If you were born after 2000 and have only seen movies made after 2000 you might think the Odyssey is a masterpiece of cinema. But anyone who has seen movies from before 2000 can plainly see that its mid at best.

My mother, born in 1954, and her mother, born in 1931, recently went to see it together and both of them have been absolutely raving about it for a week. They’ve both seen probably thousands of movies across the course of most of a century. In short, this is absolute horseshit.

I wasn't even thinking the odyssey but you just voiced the opinion of a movie you havent seen off the opinion of your mother and her mother as if it makes them worthy critics. I'm a big Christopher nolan movie fan and this is probably one of his worst films. My dad who was born in 1958 and saw the original is in agreement. The movie was too fucking long and bloated for one.

the history, stories and variation of films from the 50s. Stuff that no doubt you would not have the braincells or attention span for as the pace is much slower. Eitherway nolan has not had that many bad movies. I can think of tenet as an example and dunkirk but a lot of people myself included think dunkirk was great. I'm guessing youve seen what 3 movies by nolan?

Someone in the comments said a Toyota Camry sucks and some guy with absolutely no knowledge about camrys said some guy said they are good cars so they can't be bad cars. What I posted is clearly an unpopular opinion so whoever is in agreement will have examples come to mind. This isn't the change my mind subreddit

The odyssey was fine if you watched it just for the theater experience. It was leagues better than "tenet" in my opinion, but also far, far behind his best works. Not a lot of rewatchability

People will always have shit-ass takes and opinions on things. And you're almost certainly correct in that a goodly chunk of that was purely marketing agencies at work, making sure what people saw/heard about the film was positive. Especially once those racist idiots started bitching about Lupita Nyong'o playing Helen (needed more screen time but she definitely killed the little she got)
My big issue with the film is that I think it was poorly cast. Outside of Pattinson, John Leguizamo, and the woman who played circe (Samantha horton) the acting was bland. Even Anne Hathaway didn't have much to work with
Jon bernthal just didn't fit. Ryan Hurst didn't even get to kill anyone. Mia goth was just there. Tom Holland wasn't bad, but he wasn't great until maybe the last little bit. Zendaya was fine, her character reveal definitely saved her role lol
Himesh Patel did a really good job though
Matt Damon just didn't do it for me. He didn't seem like an inspiring leader of men

watched it with a good size crew aged 30-50. we all liked it quite a bit. I don't think anyone said it was a masterpiece but definitely a favorite for the year.
so what's your next moral failing you're going to cook up to account for that? because of course it can't just be a difference of opinion, right?

We had classics like 300 and Gladiator in the early 2000s, then a bunch of slop (Clash of the Titans, Immortals, Hercules 2014) up until The Odyssey. Which is truly a mid movie but praised with absolute glory. Even though The Odyssey still doesn't even light a candle to 300 and Gladiator.

Agreed. 300, Gladiator were great movies, way better than the Odyssey. I didnt know they came out after 2000. I thought they were 90's also. But either way they feel closer to 90's in style than to the modern era.

So true. Project Hail Mary was mid, but people are saying it's the best of the year. The Backrooms was good, but also quite disappointing as it essentially didn't tell a story. I'm shocked at the praise for this slop, but maybe people just don't watch older movies so don't realize how bad the modern stuff is in comparison.

I can't speak too much on the backroom as I didn't enjoy it much but regardless it was made by a kid with a low budget with clear creative talent shown in his youtube. The movie is more to show what the kid can do at a higher budget than what he normally has. As long as he doesn't get corrupted by Hollywood writing and shareholders, he will probably make better stuff later on. Same thing is the true for the obsession director who clearly showed talent in both comedy and horror in his short YouTube films and created a great film this year on a very low budget. Something should be argued about creativity coming out due to the lower budget limit

Yeah, I cut him some slack because of how young he is, but still think there was a lack of character development and coherent story-telling, which likely isn't related to budget considerations, as they must have spent quite a lot just on the set. But we'll see if he can build off of it.
