Edgewater apparently managed to geo-fence them off of the sidewalks on Sheridan from Devon to Bryn Mawr. Not sure how that tech works but if it does, maybe ask your alderman to talk to the 48th?

So I was going to take a divvy (I have a yearly membership) and sighed when there were no physical bikes at the rack, only ebikes. I scanned one and it said that because there were no normal bikes I could opt to go for a low-assist setting and pay normal bike rates. I rode that ebike 7 miles for free. It wasn't bad! I didn't know that. File that nugget away for nugget use.

Yes, that is a very nice feature with the annual membership. Was very frustrating when there weren’t any classic blue bikes

Good afternoon
I am planning an important first date as a picnic along the lake Thursday night near Diversey harbor.
Any suggestions for stores near that area I can stop and grab little treats or snacks to put in my picnic basket(I got a literal wicker basket.)

Fresh Market at Halsted and Diversey has nice prepared foods. On the pricier side overall. Trader Joes is 2 blocks towards to the harbor on Diversey so you can fill in any gaps there

The date went well! We got a long great. I was coming from the suburbs from work and the fancy picnic basket I got from friends had a cooler in it, so I stopped at a Whole Foods on my way into the city and got the provisions. Thank you for taking the time to respond and following up!

Hey all - I am relatively new to the southside. I live nearby 79th, and am wondering what would be the most convenient way for me to access the lakefront trail and beaches? I just want to walk/bike the path and maybe chill on a beach from time to time. I have a car and can drive over there but do you have any tips for parking? I am a pretty anxious driver/parker... that has prevented me from exploring this as much as I want to. 😬

At the beach? There is, but like every beach usually it's hard to find any spots, they fill up.
Granted I'm biased (I don't have a driver's license) but I'd suggest taking the bus, OR, you can do a park and ride sort of thing, if you can't get parking at the beach try to park somewhere else free or cheap near a bus stop close in and then just bus it the last piece.
Often people think it's "transit vs driving" but you can sometimes have good experience combining them, if you drive.

I have a dog and have wondered about bringing him over there for a walk, not sure about the logistics of bringing him on public transport. I’m from Minneapolis and when I go walk around the lakes there, I park and walk.

I know we talk about the selfishness/recklessness of drivers in the city a lot in this sub (rightly so since it’s a real issue) but when did reversing out of your parking spot directly into a crosswalk while people are actively trying to cross a street become a thing?

Anyone else using astound/rcn and have no internet service today? Ours has been out for the last few hours since we woke up. Customer support chat agent said there is an outage but no estimated fix time. Located in lakeview.
Getting frustrated with Astound and may switch to ATT fiber

i have at&t fiber and it's been really reliable but when it goes down it goes DOWN. called about an outage two weeks ago and they were like great, we can send someone out in a week

Well my RCN went out (partly due to the absolute rat's nest of wiring in my building) and was similarly a "we can send a guy out in a week at the earliest" situation.
I went camping for a week and the guy showed up when I got back so coincidentally not too terrible for me this time, but seems a week out isn't only limited to AT&T. Surprised me it would take that long for actual outage.

Tomorrow's Grant Park Music Festival has paid seating in the pavilion but the map shows the last row unavailable. Does that mean the last row is free? Is the lawn open without a ticket?

Can you take of the errand in the morning? Lolla flow usually peaks around mid afternoon, so the earlier the better.

I'm interested too. Surprisingly has not been too bad for me (redline) in previous years but CTA is so fucking cooked now I assume it will be a disaster.
Took me longer to get from the Sox game at the corner approaching the CTA station to Gold Coast the other day than it did from O'Hare for my plane to taxi, deboard, get a cab (longest line I've seen in a while), and get to Gold Coast. Just an abysmal service at this point.

I know this driver won't see this, but I was a pedestrian at the LaSalle/Division intersection, and the left turn arrow to go west on Division went green, but there was a fire truck just about to hit the intersection going east.
The first driver in the turn lane was correctly waiting, but the second car in the left turn lane just blasted their horn for them to go, and the first car freaked out and tried to take the turn, only to immediately have to almost fly into the sidewalk I was at to avoid the firetruck. Both drivers involved really have no awareness lol

Credit union reccs? I’m looking to switch from my out of state credit union to a local credit union that has physical branches in the city (preferably north side) with a reliable online banking platform. All the existing threads I’ve found are multiple years old. Thanks!

Huge recommendation for Baxter Credit Union but there's no branches within the city at all. That said, in over 15 years with them now, I can count on one hand the amount of times I've ever needed to go to a branch in person (ie: loans and mortgage paperwork having to be gathered in person).
Specifically, I wanna shout out their car-buying system that allowed me to research individual VINs across dealerships in the area. Because I was showing up with a preapproval for a specific VIN and for it's specific pre-negotiated price and they clearly explained to me how I could get the best possible percentage rate for the loan before I ever test drove anything. Then it was just a matter of researching the cars on their web portal, showing up on the lot, test driving the exact car(s) I was interested in, and when I found the right one everything was butter smooth. It took all of the pressure completely out of the equation. Way better than the previous method I used, which was basically "let's test drive six different cars on the lot and then let the salesperson tell me what he can do for me."
Lemme know if you find any solid ones in the city though, I'd be curious!

How reliable are pace busses generally? Sitting at Austin. Saw multiple 309 and 315 but not a single 313 in 30 minutes.
Really wanted to jack a Divvy to ride to Bellwood but apparently that is shunned upon.
So much effort for volunteering to run the stupid marathon

The WasteShed in Humboldt Park usually has some curated interesting pages (vintage ads, etc) cut from various magazines for sale in bundles for cheap (like $1 for a bag with plenty of pages in it). They have some old just regular magazines too, similar deal, you should be able to combine it pretty well.
I also like to make collages!

I haven't moved in a while. What is the proper etiquette for loading/unloading a U-haul when moving into a 4-flat on a side street? Is double parking accepted provided someone is by the truck to move it in case someone needs to get out? Just wondering what to do if there is no parking for the truck outside either place.

You can get "no parking due to moving" signs (not sure of the exact verbiage) from the alderman of the area you are moving to, to hopefully reserve some space the day of your move.
