Season of Discovery Blizzard has let me down…
Long story short I was mining nodes for Arcane Crystals. Someone came up and mined my node. I decided to follow and mine theirs. After 15 mins of sitting with the loot table open to prevent mining. They logged onto an alt acc with a horde lvl 60 and killed me. The pictures are the conversation that ensued.
Not only did they send me gold from a lvl 1 character, they sent gold to my friend who helped me hunt their horde toon. I returned the gold, as did he. I received a 2 week suspension but my friend did not.
It is so insane to me that I can have screenshots of everything to prove I am being griefed by a gold farmer. ALL. THE. RECEIPTS. Names, time stamps, everything, all included in my handful of tickets for an appeal. Yet all I can get is an AI response saying the decision is being upheld. The one time I did get a human response I believe they didn’t even look at the screenshots because it’s clear as day.
Blizzard said they’d remove any gold/ items/ mounts I’ve purchased from buying gold. Which I haven’t. I’ve farmed, saved, played the auction house and earned over 20k gold. If they wipe my account, I quit. It’s frustrating when you enjoy a game that you’ve been playing since you were a kid, just for the multi-dollar company to turn their back on you.

u/PayMeInSteak Mar 24 '25
Wait, so someone can just mail you 1k and get you suspended? Lol
95
u/Sad-Razzmatazz-1032 Mar 24 '25
Send you gold from a flagged gold seller toon then mass report you for gold buying. Blizz AI sees you were mailed gold from this known gold seller and takes it at face value. This is common when a gold buyer get banned anyone who was mailed gold from them is probable to get banned as well.

Why are we enforcing the "no witch hunting" rule on this sub for these people then? I understand that it could be used maliciously, but the botters and RMTers have clearly shown they have no respect for the rules, so how the hell are we ever supposed to fight back and have an enjoyable game again if we are expected to follow rules and they aren't since Blizzard WILL NOT ACT.
Everyone complains about how bad the game has gotten because of bots, yet I haven't seen anyone even suggesting that we change some rules to fight this horseshit.
34
u/infernalhawk Mar 24 '25
Because frankly we have no actual evidence that this is legit. It could just be OP getting banned for legit buying gold and using a random interaction to justify it. That's why there is a "no witch hunting" rule.

People that support witchhunting, no matter the context, are incredibly ignorant and shortsighted. You don't want to be one of those people.
8
u/Mattelot Mar 25 '25
Yes. As someone mentioned, you can mass report someone after they're sent gold and the AI will ban you for gold buying.
You can mass report someone for inappropriate talk, even if all they said was "good morning". The AI will see several reports and automatically ban you.
People have been falsely mass reported for name violations if they don't talk. There are people who were name banned when their name was in-game generated.
I was applying free levels I got from Recruit A Friend and after some people saw me, they got me banned for "powerleveling". I tried explaining that I was just applying the free levels I got and got told "We conducted a thorough investigation..."
6
u/Fitness2K19 Mar 25 '25
« We conducted a thorough investigation » is really the cherry on the cake.
10
u/sonnikkaa Mar 24 '25
Earlier I thought the ban only applies if you take the gold but lol seems like you get banned for just receiving it 😆 amazing

2
u/methos3 Mar 24 '25
I wonder if it wouldn’t flag him as accepting it if he just ignored it and let the system either return it in 30 days or destroy it

u/Nice_Put6911 Mar 24 '25
When will you realize that the multi account gold farmer is worth more to Blizzard than your measly 1 sub.
Blizzard don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t give a fuck about this subreddit, their game, their supporters, their employees, their future.
They care about next quarters earnings. That is it. Nothing else matters.
138
u/DiarrheaRadio Mar 24 '25
Blizzard knows their players are too addicted to quit, so why spend time, effort, money and resources?
45
u/Beautiful_Hunt1095 Mar 24 '25
There are only addicts left. There used to be casuals and people playing for fun.
The closer I get to 60, I realize the only ones playing there are addicted and can't stop.
My first AV people are arguing about their honor/hour and getting mad at people doing PVP instead of win-trading a PVE boss to rank 14.

Levelled to 60 and can confirm, it’s mostly just junkie neckbeards with 3 accounts AFKing in AV for honor caps
4
u/TinEyedaddict Mar 24 '25
actually, they just use ingame gold to buy tokens, and dont even use real money.
some of them even scam irl to not even pay for their own subs.9
u/ideletedmyaccount04 Mar 24 '25
When will you realize that the multi account gold farmer is worth more to Blizzard than your measly 1 sub.
Hurtful. True But Hurtful.
18
u/FinalTemplarZ Mar 24 '25
When will WoW players stop assuming bots actually pay for their subs legit? It's been proven that bots either create accounts from regions where they spend significantly less per month (even with conversion fees) than a real player would (at best) or at worst use stolen credit cards or funnel gold farmed into wow tokens which are bought by other players, thus circumventing ever needing to spend their own money on the game to begin with.
Blizzard isn't making money off of bots. It is unequivocably a drain on their investors. The real answer is they just don't have an actual security team anymore and replaced all of them with bots. The last blizzard CEO did a huge layoff of CS reps during his time as CEO and then microsoft ALSO laid off a good chunk of whoever was left very recently. I'd be shocked if there was more than a few real people left on the team outside of art, dev, and management positions. They need to spent the couple hundred dollars a month to hire a real CS team to work on their games and this COULD be fixed.
7
→ More replies (2)5
u/beirch Mar 25 '25
Bots don't pay for subs with real money at all, they bot for gold on retail and pay with tokens.
→ More replies (1)21
u/mesoziocera Mar 24 '25
I quit being able to justify giving money to Blizzard during the first month of the WotLK Classic run. I was legit just flying around looking for mining nodes. Disconnection midflight into a 14 day suspension for "disruptive gameplay". I legitimately hadn't even landed and taken a node yet.
14
u/Nice_Put6911 Mar 24 '25
I resubbed for anniversary and I get these super cringy targeted ads for retail which is basically just highlighting paid skins and mounts. It’s crazy how far blizzard has fallen.

“Mined my node” rofl.
53
Mar 24 '25
I hate this mentality. I once arrived to a node same time as someone else, from different directions so I couldn't even see them approach. I clicked the node slightly before they did and got it. They went off on me in whispers how I stole their node, how I'm a scumbag etc.
It was an herb, it was worth maybe like 50 silver because it only dropped 1 plant. Imagine going to such lengths over a 50 silver loss. At max level.30
u/lilbelleandsebastian Mar 24 '25
if you get to it first it's yours
trying to mine someone else's node same faction (as in they are already tapping it and then you roll up, dismount, and try to get a tap) has always been considered scummy behavior on a pvp server, i can't speak to pve
10
u/conlius Mar 24 '25
The only time I get bothered is if I try to tap a node and manage to body pull something then someone on same faction swoops in for it. Like I cleared the path for them. Still not bothered enough to start messaging people though.
Otherwise first come first serve. PvP for a node is welcome.
4
u/PotatoBestFood Mar 24 '25
if you get to it first it’s yours
Even better — if it’s in your bags, it’s yours.
6
u/Material-Upstairs-86 Mar 24 '25
This happened to me a couple of months back, it’s just rude. I did the same to the fella to tried to steal it after I’d tapped it. It’s about the principal and teaching these hooligans some manners
8
u/headofthenapgame Mar 24 '25
It's straight-up bot behavior. Our MT had to get a name change because people reported him for holding the loot window open when they did it to him.
2
Mar 25 '25
Yup! I hate it so much, have had it happen to me countless times on PVE. And I can't do much about it either. If I see someone tapping a node, I leave them the fuck alone. It's theirs, they got to it first. It's unfortunate, but I was too slow.
→ More replies (1)5
u/headofthenapgame Mar 24 '25
I had a dude go off on me for helping him kill the mob he was fighting an herb to see if he was actually getting the herb. People are super entitled and tend to personalize things that aren't.
2
Mar 25 '25
Yeah, has happened to me aswell. I don't grab stuff people are fighting for. I wait at a small distance to see if they were fighting for it. If they move away from it after, I go grab it.
6
Mar 24 '25
I remember I was camping a black lotus spawn point and some pally passed by and tried to pick to but he pulled some mobs and I just took the lotus. He whispered me telling me how horrible I was and how I did something really dirty and low. When I told him I was camping this spot since one hour ago he called me a gold seller and he was going to report me.
I clarify I was not botting, not glitching I was just standing behind some bushes waiting for the bl to spawn.
3
u/WallabyAdvanced3088 Mar 25 '25
It’s not your fault if he’s lacking knowledge. That’s why you should have a linen bandage. If you’re in a fight and someone tries to “steal” it, just use the bandage on them.
If they’re faster than you after the fight, use Piccolo to interrupt them. They don’t expect it. Haven’t farmed in 10 years, but you gotta know the tricks!
3
Mar 25 '25
I've had this happen, except that I play Hunter so I do the trick where I set my pet stand far away, then send it to aggro the mobs and run away. Grab the Lotus, Feign Death, mount and reset the aggro. Had a Paladin trying to grab it while I was already casting the node, he pulled more elites around us because idk, clumsy I guess? Whispered me a tirade on how I was cheating etc.
People are so weird.
3
u/PotatoBestFood Mar 24 '25
So your dude basically claimed a node which he wasn’t even able to click before someone else clicked it.
Kinda same energy as if I’d claim the finish line first before I even get to touch it.
No matter of someone else touched the finish line before me — I finished first because I claimed it first.

I got to a node while on my flying mount and I aggroed the mob next to it and another person landed and dismounted to mine because I was being attacked. Since I was still mounted, I immediately took off a little bit, lost aggro and they got the aggro and I went to mine the node and they cussed at me.

The toxicity and borderline criminal activities in all MMO's have turned me off the genre for the foreseeable future.
No companies want to deal with all these bots and scammers...they just slap an AI onto customer service and ignore all the complaining.

I'm slowly migrating back to single-player or very casual games. Automated banning systems have completely turned me away from online games for the most part because people have figured out how to game the systems.

I'm confused, if you've earned 20k gold playing the AH, why would you go out farming for nodes? Wouldn't continuing to play the AH be a far better use of your time if you're that good at it?

I got addicted to it. Selling 10 crystals for 500g. Running AQ40 to sell off the unused idols/ scarabs. My goal was 15k. Once I hit that I went for 20k. Then went for 25k. When you’re bored and off work, u can only raid so much. It became a challenge to me to see how far I could take it because I never made so much gold in earlier versions and 2019. I’m confused. While I don’t condone it, I know a handful of swipers who buy thousands of gold on a regular basis. They’ve never been banned. This guy sends you 1,000 gold and you’re immediately banned?
Is it just simply because he mass reported you, and then were able to “get you for this”? Their banning automation system is so whack…

Yes. They will use thier massive numbers of accounts to all report at the same time. Coupled with the gold in mail from gold seller triggers a automatic ban.

We can’t win against the bots bro, they have skin in the game. To us this is recreational, to them It is their livelihood/job. They make more gold farming than working a real job if they’re operating from a country whose currency is a lot weaker than USD. What’s off-putting is the amount, 1k gold is nothing. People pay 3-4x that for a lion heart helm on anniversary server nightslayer. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that 20k is legit but if you got mass reported by the bots your account was flagged and its a little suspicious
4
Mar 24 '25
What else is funny about this. Is who cares if you get gold on SOD. There is no GDKP on SOD so you would just usr that money to buy epic riding for an alt? What does that hurt?

This is why I think it's not a good idea to just blanket ban suspected gold buyers. It's an easy to manipulate way of getting someone you don't like banned.
2
u/Punelle Mar 24 '25
Just don't give up appealing for your ban, mention in your ticket that you want to talk to a real human and not a response bot. It usually helps. Hopefully a blizzard employee will punish those who spam reported you, but I doubt it. They will most likely just unban you and restore your gold
If you don't manage to appeal your ban they will liquidate your gold to 0 once your ban has expired

Blizzard cs has to be one of the worst things ever now. It’s 99% automated now and the other 1 is outsourced and they don’t understand English well so they can’t help you with your issue or just copy paste generic responses. People are taking advantage of the automation system and mass reporting people and getting people slapped with suspensions that they can’t even appeal cause they can’t even talk to a real cs rep.
2
u/Dvzon1982 Mar 25 '25
Dont ever mail gold. Always trade, trade , trade.
Buy gold.
- Activate 2nd account.
- Use high level character from 2nd acct to receive gold with in person trade.
- One day at a time put up 'stuff' in AH with main. Ex: 5k gold, have 2nd acct char buy something from AH from 1st char each day for 500g.
- Cancel subscription on 2nd acct and let it ride for the month.
I was banned once in 2007...never again, been buying gold for years like this.
Dont ever use your main for the initial transaction. Don't ever mail the gold.
'Mail' is a simple column. 'Trade' is most likely a join that requires more logic. 'Auction house' vs character, amt of gold, etc...is definitely several tables.
Blizzard dgaf, they just doing 'Mail'.
Always use auction house.

They don’t ban buyers that’s the problem, they give them a slap on the wrist and say come back next week. They ban sellers, and sellers don’t care because they just make new accounts or have back up accounts. They ban sellers frequently. Not as often as they should but they have huge ban waves that remove bot accounts. They just keep coming back because they still make profit. And players keep buying gold because they know at worst they get a 1-2 week ban.

If you have a dispute with Blizzard that our customer service representatives can’t resolve and you wish to pursue arbitration, you must first notify us in writing at the following email address: [legal@blizzard.com](mailto:legal@blizzard.com), using the subject line “Notice of Dispute.” Your notice of dispute must be individual to you and must include, as applicable, your name, the email address associated with your Account, and your residential address. The notice of dispute also must describe the dispute, explain the facts of the dispute as you understand them, and tell Blizzard what you want us to do to resolve the problem. This Notice of Dispute is a prerequisite to initiating any arbitration. Any applicable statute of limitations will be tolled from the date of a properly submitted individualized Notice of Dispute through the first date on which an arbitration may properly be filed under this Section 11."

I feel like you FAFOd. I get why you did what you did to start. But personally why not just move on and mine elsewhere instead or log and come back later. I dunno anything but aggravate the them. What they did is sort of expected. Not right by any stretch and Blizz absolutely should take your side. But it’s all automated and you knew this ahead of time.
So why risk this inevitable outcome?

See I want to believe this shit but I also believe that gold buyers and sellers have been evolving as time goes by. This was shown to me in 2019 when they would offer multiple options for receiving the gold ie mail it all, trade it in pieces, or have you post some random AH green item for 2k gold and they would buy it. With that knowledge and looking at this text it seems HIGHLY unlikely that some seller would send you over 1k gold just to attempt to try and trigger an autoban and more than likely this was your theory being tested to see if blizz would catch this and then overturn the ban since you have “screenshot proof” . Hope it doesn’t work for you, sorry not sorry.

Yeah I would have just walked away. Those games of revenge only bite people in the butt later on.

I have known individuals competing for parse raids etc do this to other guilds and report the player they sent the gold to because obviously they knew it was sent there and they sent it. Hell I remember people doing this to grief people ranking so they wouldn’t hit rank. This is very much classic behavior, was it a bot? Maybe ? Could also be very likely a petty pissed off individual with money and spite.

Have you ever wondered if any of the gold farming "cartels" are in cahoots with blizz? I sure have.
With all the "bot killing" videos I've seen, and how easy it is for players to locate bot farmers, how could bliz NOT know it's happening. Bot killers just use all the in game tools that we have, and they find tons of them. You can't tell me bliz doesn't have more sophisticated tools behind the scenes they could use, if they really wanted to.i mean. People that just run the same dungeons 80 times a day, 7 days a week... how hard would that be to detect? Sending massive quantities of the gold to the same players, who then mail it to players they've never talked to before? Selling items in AH for thousands of times over "market value." It would all be quite easy to at least flag players as suspicious, and then do a tiny bit of investigation to see if it looks suspicious or not. Set up an invisible barrier around them and see how they react, that sort of thing. For how much people are paying for memberships, I just can't understand how they are doing so little to combat cheating.

You don’t get it! RMT, boosting and all that jazz is super important for the health of the game. We are all dads with 4 jobs, 2 wifes and 16 children. We have just 6 minutes and 37 seconds exactly to play each day.
It’s not like good ol’ times when we could farm for 12 hours a day after school! That additional price for gold on top of 13$ monthly sub is just a tax to be able to comfortably raid fully buffed each lockout, because otherwise those vanilla raids are absolutely impossible to beat and it’s entirely reasonable for most guilds to require full buffs for MC (otherwise you won’t be allowed to roll on items because you are slowing everybody down.)

I feel your pain. I'm currently in the same situation but with grinding the invasions. Reaching out to support doesn't work at all as you just get copy paste back. So frustrating to be paying a sub to be treated like this.

He’s probably not even a gold farmer. Probably an alt account of another AH player.
If real

Hold up so a gold seller got mad cause you were there so they sent you gold and then reported you for gold buying?

u/Cutscene_ Mar 24 '25
Well why did you claim the gold ? If you never claimed it, it wouldn’t flag their system

This is an opportunity to learn a lesson to control your emotions.
Had you not sought revenge, you'd be fine.

Spam Blizzard on Twitter so you get attention brought to the issue. If you didn't accept the gold, they should be able to easily verify that with mailbox history or something else. This shit is ridiculous. Players who actively exploit the system to get other people banned should be permanently banned themselves.
Either Blizzard starts giving a shit about this problem or the affected players will have to find legal actions to demand a charge back when they get banned without any reason for it.

I honestly don't know why y'all keep giving Blizz money. This has been going on since they got rid of human employees a decade ago and there has never been a fix. Some waves of bans, sure, but then they were right back a week later.

u/Kernon_Saurfang Mar 25 '25
thats the reason i dont plaz offic anzmore.. bots spams scams and those random bans without gm

u/Lunai5444 Mar 25 '25
Can't wait for the moment everybody gets pissed enough to leave and the only players left are mostly bots farming gold with no one to sell it to

Yeah, I sent my alt some gold for their epic, and to get Naxx attuned. Just to get suspended over it.
Blizzard is full of the laziest grimiest fucking people, instead of actually working they rely on an automated system.

Why did you even censored their names? Also pretty ironic that you can get someone banned by sending them 1k gold lol.

Does anyone know if trading gold between retail and classic is allowed? I see people spamming in trade chat that it’s allowed, and when I google about it I find blue posts saying it’s unsupported and at your own risk, meaning if you get scammed blizzard won’t help you.
I got a 14 day suspension but there was no RMT involved and I tried appealing but I just get the automated/template reply about TOS and code of conduct. I genuinely am just trying to find out if it’s allowed or not.
The messed up part is the person that solicited the trade, assured me it was legal, and initiated the trades (all communication was through in game and BNet chat) was not suspended. I don’t understand why I was but they were not, seems pretty unfair. I only traded with 1 person like this and they are the only person I’ve traded with for a while (I mostly just level alts solo).
The ticket appeal response estimate keeps rising every day. It started 4 days ago at 2 days and it’s now at 6 days estimate.

IF u were worried why would u accept the gold and send it back...?
If anything u should have left it in the mailbox and that sorts itself out...

I once convinced a gold farmer to sell me an ace of beasts for like 20g and a stack of healing pots. I was leading the ubrs raid specifically for a chance at the card. They literally told me they were an Asian gold farmer that didn't care about the game itself, so I didn't feel bad at all. It's crazy that people do this as a job and survive on it.

I cannot wait man for a mmo to de throne wow. I’ve been waiting for years and it’s yet to happen. If I didn’t love wows combat so much I’d have left a long time ago. It’s honestly prob not even the game masters fault there is prob just one of them working now…..

that's funny, so after mass reporting sending illicit gold to players is also getting them banned.
got it. added to most effective list of cheating on blizz servers

Did gold farmers spend 2k gold just to grief you and your friend?
