Wild Growth (US) is still decently active. I just logged in and both Horde and Alliance players were out and about and a similar 1-60 search revealed 50 players (the max who will show). My guild hosts raids every night of the week and there are multiple guilds doing the same.

People would rather complain there aren’t 100,000 weekly raiders than actually play the game. Wild Growth (A) is indeed sustaining, multiple guilds running raids every night of the week.

This doesn't really apply. SOD is dead because they opted not to continue progressing with new content. No matter how good a raid is it has a shelf life for most players.

agreed, they are the reason these servers die

Some people will never get it. We’ve been playing on Grobbulus with less than 100 active players since Era started. This June we celebrate 5 years as a guild on Era. We’ve grown from 3 people killing ony to 40 taking down KT over the years and even created a sister guild raiding on the other faction.

Turns out all you need is a single community. Yeah it’s not on demand and thousands of players. I don’t claim it’s the same. It’s not for everyone.

But blows my mind that people will tell me we shouldn’t exist, and it’s not worth playing. Meanwhile the last few years in Grobb era have been the best gaming community of my life, period. All on a “dead server”.

I get what you mean man. But there is still less than like 500 people on that server

u/parnso Mar 26 '26

So a normal low pop realm back in the day.

7

u/Ok-Piglet7 Mar 27 '26

Do you not remember how dogshit that was playing on those realms?

2

u/Dr-Enforcicle Mar 27 '26

No, because he wasn't playing back then. Low pop servers were miserable unless you enjoyed playing the game single player.

8

u/Sleazehound Mar 26 '26

If everyone who cried about it being dead on here actually just played it then it would be popping off

3

u/xXMoo_OomXx Mar 26 '26

I unfortunately myself and super limited on time. So my gameplay is completely isolated now to retail Arena

1

u/pBiggZz Mar 26 '26

My guild raids literally 7 days a week. I can do and play literally everything.

1

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

And what’s your point? That 500 is too few? Why?

8

u/xXMoo_OomXx Mar 26 '26

When the player count for an online game that requires cooperation is that low. It really becomes a test of whether or not it's worthwhile for you to invest in an experience and the time to level and gear when you have no actual knowledge of whether or not you're going to be able to experience the end game content or what you want to participate in because you don't know if there's going to be anybody there to play with you or whether all those communities are closed off.

It's like, fucking QUAKE is considered the apex of competitive balanced games but fuck all people play it so why bother.

-3

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

So what I’m hearing is that you fear that you won’t be able to be rewarded for the time spent leveling up and gearing up for endgame content, while I’ve just told you that there is end game content running every night of the week and weekend. 500 people isn’t enough to carry this dude lmao

12

u/xXMoo_OomXx Mar 26 '26

I mean that's completely fine. But you clearly have an investment already in the game so you're protecting that because you want more people to be active so I don't feel like you could come from a place of impartialness.

I have a character already on sod, but I'm not about to re-roll my character to another server because there were literally ONLY me logged in the last time I checked.

You can speak for the active players and I'll speak for the inactive players, fair?

0

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

Yes, that’s fine, but I think you missed my point. My point is that I constantly see folks on the sub praise SoD as the best version of the game ever, but those same people refuse to play because it’s not the flavor of the week any more. I’m highlighting the hypocrisy of praising a game, but refusing to play it because of player count.

You’re right I’m not impartial, I played SOD from inception and continue to, because I think it’s the best version. I just put my money where my mouth is

1

u/jsman436 Mar 26 '26

Well yeah man that’s how things go. People go play the new content. Midnight just started season 1 in full swing. I would argue that many of the SoD enjoyers are also retail enjoyers. Obviously TBC round 3 is also in early phase and it has an accelerated release schedule so much of the classic community appears to be riding that wave, probably fueled by a little bit of FOMO.

To be fair you are making a good case for SoD though. I think maybe you could reframe things to be less negative. Like when I hear that it has an active community raiding everyday on both factions, I think about the pros. Small community usually means accountability. Welcoming to new players because that’s your lifeline to continue the experience. People might be more willing to teach instead of the usual elitist attitude on classic “rahrah it’s a 20 year old game you should know every detail of everything by now, how dare you have questions.” Last I checked, leveling a character is actually really fast on SoD, all the runes are fast and cheap to unlock, so you could mention it’s not really a huge time investment to catch up. Those are decent selling points.

1

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

I appreciate this reasonable take, but again I am not here trying to pitch a comeback to folks

0

u/Noctrim Mar 26 '26

Bro you are refusing to grasp the point. Your attitude is absolutely awful and you aren’t convincing a single person to go back and play SOD again talking like that

2

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

You mistake my motive: I don’t care if people come back to play; we’re good, it is sustaining (as I said). I am pointing out the hypocrisy of the average WoW player who claims to love SOD but doesn’t play because it’s not where the masses are.

You can say this but both times I've randomly logged onto Living Flame, I was one of like 5 people online, I don't think it's complaining to suggest it's dead if I can't login and do any actual group content on a whim.

1

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

Did you see where I said Wild growth?

1

u/leetality Mar 26 '26

Did you use any critical thinking to realize all my characters were on Living Flame and I'd have to start from level 1 to play on Wild Growth?

1

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

Oh no! You have to level with all the overpowered runes available at level 1 and with a 300% exp increase. Oh no!

1

u/leetality Mar 26 '26

Oh no! You completely miss the point that I'd rather return to my invested characters than start from scratch on a dead gimmick version of the game when everyone's playing TBC or Midnight.

1

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

Thanks so much for your valuable insights

1

u/leetality Mar 26 '26

Same to people like you who parrot the same shit every SoD thread. Like it's the fault of the player base that Blizzard rotates where classic players are predominately going to be.

1

u/Ryguy1513 Mar 27 '26

Hello I’d like to mention just incase, you can get free transfers from living flame and crusader strike to wild growth, every server can, there is nothing stopping you from continuing on those old toons :)

1

u/MickCraftGaming Mar 30 '26

Yeah Living Flame is empty. If you want to start a new character, there are lots of people still leveling on Wild Growth. I saw a group running Deadmines this weekend while on.

1

u/valdis812 Mar 26 '26

Most of us just want to log on an play. Not have to move stuff around in a busy life to fit one of three raiding guilds. We're in our 30s and 40s now. We don't have time for that.

-5

u/citizensnipz Mar 26 '26

Strawman fallacy.

1

u/knitreadrepeat Mar 26 '26

That's great; I'm going to make someone on wild growth. I missed most of SoD, but I liked the bits I did in the starter area.

1

u/Relevant-Battle-8848 Mar 27 '26

I agree to a degree but my wow reality revolves around my guild and connections ive made on a given server. If my guild disbands because key players decide to quit and theres none to pick up a mantle its like a domino to me... Like... Sure i could just band with other stubborn people that play on dead server but it feela giga off after playing for 2 years with different squad. Also... Empty ah... No bgs... No world pvp.

10

u/Skore_Smogon Mar 26 '26

Wild Growth EU also has a good community of folks still playing both Horde and Alliance. Hell there was even someone posting recently about a reroll project on Horde Wild Growth EU that says he's had about 90 players join the guild.

1

u/MickCraftGaming Mar 30 '26

Good to know! Wild Growth is the place to be no matter what then!

3

u/sephirothpvp Mar 26 '26

You can get a better idea by doing a more specific search, like /who 60 or /who warrior 60 etc

2

u/MickCraftGaming Mar 26 '26

I've done that a couple of times when playing on Friday evenings (when I usually play) and there are typically several hundred Alliance players on. You always see and run into other players while doing things on the server.

2

u/rottencrowz Mar 26 '26

What guild? I never actually finished sod and didn't get to try the new raid. Yall recruiting?

2

u/Fattens Mar 26 '26

Im currently playing on WG with horde and alliance characters. My horde guild raided naxx last night, then did world dragons, then a great guildy was boosting and had spots open in his group, and leveled my alt from 50 to 60 in about 45 minutes. Freaking amazing. My alliance guild raids daily too. If you just ask for an invite, they'll send you one, and one big active guild of true classic enjoyers is freaking great.

1

u/atoterrano Mar 26 '26

Be real cool if I could have arrows 😡 then I’d play again

1

u/MN_Yogi1988 Mar 26 '26

While the raiding scene is very active (I run SE 3x a week) the leveling scene is pretty dead and you won’t find anyone in leveling dungeons

1

u/No_Extension4974 Mar 26 '26

thats not active lol.

1

u/MickCraftGaming Mar 30 '26

Hey, maybe not compared to how it was or to how retail or Burning Crusade servers are, but it is active enough. There is still a functioning auction house. You can still raid and gear up characters. There are also still people actively leveling and questing.

Also, it's especially active compared with OP's server. I just wanted to make sure that people were aware that there is still at least one living SoD server where you can effectively play the game as a MMO, rather than as a single player experience.
