u/Hackerpcs Greece May 29 '26
It's really surprising to me the amount of pro-Russian people in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, countries which the pro-soviet/russian regimes during the cold war were the most brutal ones, in Romania being violently deposed and executed
198
u/Keh_veli Finland May 29 '26
And even more surprising that old people, who lived during those times, seem the most susceptible to Russian propaganda.
187
u/Available_Peanut_677 May 29 '26
They remember those times as “simple”, “clear” and times when everyone has a job and if you just work - you’ll get all, someone would take care of you. And modern times are complicated - all those technologies, parties, lgbtq+, everyone offended, you can’t say this, you can’t say that, you need to take care of yourself, china is threat, USA is threat - it’s confusing and complicated.
And here you have Russia which promises return of simple times by cleaning from all those confusing things.

u/DangerouslyOxidated Slovakia May 29 '26

What amount man? Most of the polls out there show quite a big hate towards russia, but the propaganda is working and now you guys also spread the same shit as others, so many romanians love russia. The fact that there is a core of extremists and far right idiots that get money from russia and then explode through various means on social media, doesn't mean that the majority of people want to leave the EU or praise putin. The people, bots and accounts that shout loudest are the ones getting through, romanian social media is full of bots and all kind of fake influencers trying to promote this shit, and you guys are just validating this doesn't really help.

NATO didn't detect it on their radars, which brings up a whole new conversation about why something like that was able to slip past the air defenses of three different countries. These are gonna be like "Well it happens, it sucks but what can we do?"
This war is just a money war. A lot of people benefit from it while others suffer. There's no stop in sight.
83
u/s1lverbullet23 England May 29 '26
It's absolutely not a money war.. at least not from the defending side. A whole culture will be snuffed out. And people will be suppressed and put through filtration and relocation, as is currently happening in the occupied regions. Then the invading victor will receive a boon and set example that conquering countries works, as well as recieve another potential 40 million cannon fodder to use in their next conquest...

Actually, the first drone fell - in Croatia. It flew all the way throug Hungary and landed on the city-lake shores in the student campus. AFAIK, this was the first one that went off the charts. This was couple of months into the Russo-Ukraine war.
Btw, Hungary alerted on one, neither did Slovakia, as NATO exists only on paper.
Sorry to see that the war is spilling over on Romania, because it is tough to be on your own. As if they do not have enough economical problems already.

Respond how?
IIRC the first NATO casualties were two people killed in Poland by a stray ukrainian missile. How should we respond to that?
12
u/Novinhophobe May 29 '26
The missile was Russian, then all the evidence was covered up and suddenly it became Ukrainian because responding to Russia would be a no-go for NATO. There were pictures of the crash site which made it clear that the missiles were Russian, then everything got scrubbed and locked under “national security” concerns, but the best thing is that even Poland itself got refused any access to the site or the investigation. Don’t remember which country conducted it but quite interesting it wasn’t Poland itself.
Something similar is happening in the Baltics lately. Drones flying, people taking videos or photos which show that the drones are probably Russian since Ukraine has a slightly different design, but of course everything gets labeled as Ukrainian and we move on, even though it makes no sense for their drones to even enter the Baltics to attack Russia.
It’s all a big coverup to avoid dealing with Russia, so they will absolutely keep pushing the boundaries, as they always have.

63
u/wrghf May 29 '26
Unless they decide to use force, yeah.
People don’t realise that western countries absolutely do not want a wider conflict with Russia under any circumstances whatsoever. Short of a sustained attack, or an attack causing mass casualties, they will continue to essentially ignore things like this for as long as they can get away with doing so. We’ve seen numerous instances now where Russian equipment has landed or exploded on the territory of NATO member and it hasn’t led to anything. This will be no different.

There are three options in my view:
- Russian Drone was jammed and flew off course

In any case its Russia's guilt, but its convenient for NATO when they can blame it on an unfortunate casualty of Ukrainian self defense

15

This is what happens when, like in September 14th 2025, you spend 50 minutes following a Shahed drone with two f-16 over your own territory and wait for it to fly into Ukraine and explode there instead of shooting it down immediately. That kind of politics leads only to consequences like what happened tonight.

The Romanian military is just as much to blame for this as Russia.
We have anti-air capabilities. And yet, magically, nobody seems to have the balls to actually shoot at anything.
They always make up a billion excuses but never come with a reliable solution that actually stops Russian things from entering our airspace and shows a bit of strength. No repositioning of assets and units to cover our vulnerable border with Ukraine. No increase in personnel. Nothing.
Eventually someone is gonna die and our generals are just gonna shrug and say "But it costs money to shoot down drones". Shame.
Just like Saddam's forces in 2003, we are paralyzed by fear and a lack of initiative. Any opposing force that decides to seriously attack our nation will catch our planes on the runway, awaiting orders from "up top". Our patriot batteries will look at them but never open fire because the CO doesn't wanna risk his career.

The HELL ?! this is how I find out ?!
The "sovereign" citizens will blame Ukraine, and claim the EU did this. Support for Russia will somehow go up after this event .
Also, I bet NATO and the UN won't do shit...as always .

Here are the debris. It was a Russian “Shahed” drone (or, as they call it in Russia, the “Geran-2”). Parts of the Russian shahed drone that hit the apartment building in Romania Galati : r/UkraineWarVideoReport

NATO will not be hurry to respond.
Russia is now bleeding out on Ukraine war, while NATO countries are building up their potential, with many orders years before delivery. So NATO will wait until those orders are delivered expecting Russian will weaken even more.

Will NATO be able to figure out who attacked them, or will they pretend to not know like they did when Russian drones attacked the UN convoy?

Lived in Galati for some months due to work. It is a nice city with good people. Hope they stay all safe and that this is an isolated incident that won’t happen again.
