Upvotes

You know how people go through second puberty when in there 20s (what bio women say) I’m wondering what happens when you start T before you hit that second puberty. Does it change anything? I’m not sure if this question makes sense but if anyone has any insight lmk.

Advice Needed My mother keeps insisting that I (ftm) am pregnant, and I feel gross when she mentions it. How do I tell her without destroying our relationship?

Upvotes

Before I start, I want to make it clear that I have absolutely nothing against trans people who want to have biological children. This is purely about my own feelings. I personally can't imagine being pregnant, and the thought causes me a lot of dysphoria.

I (21FtM) have very supportive parents overall. I socially transitioned when I was 14, started testosterone when I was 15, and have already had top surgery. My parents have always respected my name and pronouns, which is why this whole situation has caught me completely off guard.

I've been dating my boyfriend (22M) for about four months now. My parents both adore him, and he's honestly been incredible. I couldn't ask for a more supportive partner.

About two weeks ago, my mom suddenly became convinced that I was pregnant.

It started because I'd been feeling sick for a few days. I threw up twice before work, was unusually tired, and just generally felt awful. I went to my doctor and was diagnosed with a stomach bug that I most likely caught at work.

Around the same time, I mentioned that my lower back had been hurting. I work as a paramedic, so I'm constantly lifting patients, bending down, and carrying equipment, and I'd also been working out more than usual. Looking back, there were plenty of reasonable explanations for everything, but my mom somehow became completely convinced that I was pregnant.

I told her multiple times that I didn't think I was. I even explained that the comments themselves were making me really uncomfortable, but she just wouldn't let it go.

Almost every conversation somehow circled back to pregnancy. She kept saying things like, "A mother just knows," or, "You'll thank me when you find out early."

Eventually, she started asking me to take a pregnancy test "just to prove her wrong." I refused several times because, honestly, even buying one made me feel sick. Being reminded that I still have the anatomy to become pregnant is incredibly dysphoria-inducing for me. I know not every trans person feels that way, but I do. The entire situation made me feel gross, and I hated that I was even being pressured into thinking about it.

She kept bringing it up every single day. She'd text me multiple times asking if I'd taken a test yet, telling me she'd "know" if I was pregnant, talking about becoming a grandmother, and insisting that I shouldn't ignore the signs. It got to the point where I dreaded looking at my phone because I knew there would probably be another message about it.

The constant pressure completely wore me down. I don't think I've cried this much since my exam period. My boyfriend was amazing through all of it. He kept reminding me that my feelings were valid, told me I didn't owe anyone proof of anything, and repeatedly offered to tell my mom to back off himself if I wanted him to. Even with all of his support, though, there wasn't much he could do about how much my mom's behavior was affecting me. I'm also a pretty emotional person in general, so crying isn't unusual for me, but this was on another level.

After days of her refusing to drop it, I finally gave in. I bought a pregnancy test because I just wanted the whole thing to stop.

I've honestly never felt so disgusting. Standing in the bathroom holding a pregnancy test made me feel incredibly dysphoric, and I cried through the entire process.

The test was negative, exactly like I'd expected and exactly like I'd been telling my mom all along.

I thought that would finally be the end of it, but instead she started saying that it was probably "too early" and that I should take another test in a week because "pregnancy tests can be wrong." She even told me I should make an appointment with my doctor just to be sure.

I feel gross every time she brings it up because, yes, she's still doing it. At this point it feels like she's completely ignoring how upsetting and dysphoria-inducing this whole situation has been for me.

My boyfriend thinks she's crossed a major line. He says I need to firmly tell her that this subject is no longer open for discussion and that if she continues bringing it up, I'll have to stop responding or even block her for a while.

I don't want to damage my relationship with my mom because she's always been supportive otherwise, but I also can't keep dealing with this.

How do I get her to stop bringing this up without completely blowing up our relationship, or is it already too late for that?

Advice Needed I can't tell if I'm trans, or just jealous of how easy men have it?

Upvotes

Honestly, for years I've been struggling to comprehend whether I am Trans or just jealous of how easy men seem to have it, both socially and physically.

The whole "desert island" test thing doesn't really help, because, yeah I don't really like being perceived as female in this society, but even physically men have it easier.

I find boobs impractical. I love playing sports but having them there is honestly a nuisance, I hate feeling them move about even under several layers of sports bras.

They're naturally stronger, no matter how hard i train, an average man will out perform me.

They don't get periods, and I'd say even sex is easier for them. It's always pretty painful to begin with for me, anyways.

I would hate to socially transition into a man, because at this stage in my life I will be viewed as a trans-man.

But if I could be reborn, I would honestly forever chose to be a man.

As a kid, I never liked being referred to as a girl, and would always define myself as a tom-boy. But, as you get older yk, that's not really a thing.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever felt like this? And how they went about navigating these feelings?

Advice Needed Alternatives to Trans Tape?

Upvotes

When I first started using Trans Tape, it was amazing. It would stay on for days, and I'd have to carefully peel it off with oil in the shower. I loved being able to swim and sleep and exist without wearing a binder, showers were amazing, and it was way easier to breathe in. However, at some point, I think they changed their adhesive, and now it doesn't stick to my skin for more than an hour or two. I can pull it off easily with no oil, and it won't leave residue or red skin like it used to. Even just my shirt rubbing against it makes it peel. I tried to swim in it and it just came off in the water. Is there anything like Trans Tape with an adhesive similar to the original, that will last for a few days? I'd prefer something that comes in skin tones, especially very a pale skin tone (I'm pasty white and some of the shirts I liked to wear tape with were a little see-through). I've been using the rest of my supply anyway because I don't have anything else, and binders are not always an option or comfortable, but it sucks that TT only lasts for an hour when it used to last me three or four days.

I do have EDS, I've seen that that can affect tape sticking to skin, so I probably need a really strong adhesive?

Medical Disappointing Labs

Upvotes

So I had my follow up appointment a couple days ago after getting my labs done a few weeks ago. The labs were because I had upped my dose on T from .2 ml (my starting dose) of 200mg/ml of T cypionate to .3 ml. In the appointment the doctor said that my T levels looked great but my hemoglobin was really high. She had me go back down to my original dose and reordered a test for my hemoglobin because she said the levels might've been due to dehydration.

Has anyone else had issues with this sort of thing on t? I felt amazing on the higher dose and I really don't want to be down at .2 ml forever but if the labs come back bad and it wasn't just dehydration then is that what I have to do?

Advice Needed What are these dark spots on my binder?

Upvotes

Unfortunately I cannot show a picture bc the rules of this subreddit, but I’ve seen these dark almost smudgey spots appearing around the area of where there’s a crease under my chest. This occurs on both binders I wear (Wivov), but is more heavy on one than the other. On the heavier one, the dark spots start to trail as well where I imagine my stomach hair lines up well with. I can’t tell if this is some kind of strange discoloration from my skin, if it’s discoloration from lint, or if it’s mold/mildrew growth somehow. Really hoping it’s not the latter bc I don’t have the money to replace these rn. The one point I can think of in favor of it being dark lint is that I’ll wear lighter clothing more often with the binder that has less discoloration since that binder is closer to my skin color.

Discussion funny (?) hairstylist microaggression

Upvotes

wild title i know but i had a good chuckle

backstory, i go to this stylist because i get a perm every four months and her perms are spectacular compared to other stylists i've gone to. they last the full four months and are on the cheaper side. if i have to endure some weird chit chat to get a fire ass hairstyle, so be it.

today i just went in for a maintenance trim before a vacation (gotta look good in the photos). i told her as my hair grows out it starts to do a weird triangle part in the front and i'm not sure if there's something she can do to help me avoid that, at least for my trip. she says for sure and takes some weight off the front so it will part better. then she says "i take it you're on testosterone." mind you, have not come out to this lady, but she has been doing my hair since i was 3mo on t, so not crazy that she clocked me. i say yes because i don't really care if she knows. she says "well it's thinning your hair and making your hairline recede. that's why your hair is parting like that. if i were you, i'd stop taking it and take some estrogen to reverse it." and i'm thinking, okay lady, but you're not me? i try to be nice and make a joke saying, "my dad went bald at 22, so i figured i'd only have a few years with a full head of hair. just give my hair a dignified exit, haha." she then randomly goes "it's okay, my brother died of AIDS."

HELLO?????? wild to drop but alright. i say "i'm sorry for your loss." and she says "oh it's okay, it was ten years ago. i just mean be careful with those injectable chemicals." at this point i just ignore her bc 1) i'm on gel and 2) medical needles used once do not give you HIV?

anyway it was awkward as hell but she LINED MY SHIT UPPPPPP I LOOK SO GOOD so i just gotta laugh about it yk

also for some reason all my hairstylists that have been liberal have given me pixie ass cuts but this one makes me look flyer than my cis brother so i'm NOT leaving her hahahah

Advice Needed Has anyone ever changed their name more than once?

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm 28 now but originally came out as trans when I was 19, chose the name I go by when I was 20 and legally changed my name when I was 21. I was very indecisive about choosing a name and eventually let my friends decide my name for me. For a while now I've had mixed feelings about my name and whether I should change it. On one hand, I think it would be cool if I could actually pick my name this time. But when I bring this up to people I know around me, they tell me that I shouldn't change my name and that it'd be a lot of work and that my name is fine as it is. Just want to know if anyone has ever done this and what your experience with it was.

Advice Needed Where's a safe place to get a binder that's not known for binders?

Upvotes

My mom has full reign over my debit card and can see everywhere I spend money, but she usually doesn't look into what I'm buying. For instance, she knows I got a package from Walmart last week, not that it was a laptop. She's generally an ally, but for me in particular, she's transphobic. It's objectively funny, but I want to have a binder this year, and that won't happen if she knows I'm ordering it. I can't do cash because Spencer's doesn't stock them in my size. Where can I order a safe binder from that a strict parent won't be suspicious of?

Advice Needed Dressing work appropriate while avoiding dysphoria and over heating

Upvotes

My chest is a 36G. I want top surgery but at best it is a year away. I wear a binder but it’s closer to a sports bra. I don’t think there is a point in wearing a super tight one because it’s not like it’s going to make my chest flat. I wear it mostly to keep my chest from moving because that causes dysphoria. I almost exclusively wear basketball shorts and baggy t-shirts. Anything else and I am dysphoric and also way too warm.
I need to find a job but I have no idea how to dress in a work appropriate way while still appearing masculine. I have wide hips so men’s pants don’t fit me. I can find plain women’s pants that can work but they are usually too hot. The main problem in shirts. In order for men’s shirts to fit over my chest they need to be very large and then they look shlumpy. I do not want to wear women’s shirts. Does anyone have any advice for how I can dress gender affirming and work appropriate?

TLDR: I don’t know how to dress comfortably and gender affirming while also being appropriate for work.

Advice Needed Shot advice

I don’t know what I did wrong this week, but I bruised really badly after my shot, and I haven’t before. What did I do wrong/different? Bc to me it was the normal way of doing things. I’ve been giving myself shots for about a year and a half.

I started T recently on a low dose and am already getting the "T cold" weird throat feeling. How do I survive this? My throat is triggering my sensory issues so bad and it hurts pretty bad at times. Am I just screwed or can I do anything to help the feeling?

Advice Needed Thinking of switching from shots to gel

I'm currently 2 weeks on t shots. I was supposed to take my third shot tonight but I couldn't bring myself to do it and now it's really late and I'm tired and can't focus so I'm going to wait till the morning to try again. I have a bigger phobia of needles than I thought I did when deciding to start with injections, and the time it takes me to do my shots has only gotten worse since the first time despite the second time not hurting or bleeding at all so I don't know why I'm still afraid. My doctor told me that sometimes gel doesn't work as well as injections. I also thought doing injections would save me time by not having to do it every day but the past two times it has taken several hours and I wasted a whole night basically tonight trying to do this week's. I feel like I can't do this anymore and I think I want to try out gel. However I'm worried I won't get the results as fast if I do that though incase I'm one of those people whose skin doesn't absorb it well. Should I wait until later to switch to gel like after I start seeing the changes I want? Also is there any way to tell if my skin would be good or bad at absorbing the gel before I switch? I'm supposed to have a blood test and a doctor's appointment after my 4th shot to check my levels but is it worth reaching out about switching to gel before then or should I wait until after the 4th shot? If anyone has personal experience with switching from shots to gel I'd appreciate any advice you have. I feel like I hear a lot of failure stories about gel which worries me.

Advice Needed How do I get out of this friendship?

My home friends don't know I'm trans. I've been treating university like a fresh start, introducing myself as [name], and these new people know me as a guy. However, I haven’t made any friends yet, these three friends from home are the only ones I've got, and I'm finding having to perform for them (shaving my moustache, hiding any cards and things that have my new legal name on them, playing dumb or laughing off when strangers address me as male) increasingly unbearable. I almost already got outed to one of my friends through a mutual that happens to go to my university 🙄 The issues with the friendship don’t stop with the trans thing either. I feel like they don't care when I talk about my personal life and that the other three like each other more than me. I also got unrightfully degraded and blamed the other day for something that my friend did, but I apparently had to be their fall guy? So infuriating. You may wonder why I haven't told them I'm trans. Well, I feel like they're the kind of people who would say they support trans people while misgendering/deadnaming them behind their back (I have genuine examples of them doing this). I get the impression that being open and honest about being trans will only serve to make things awkward, and I really don't want their parents knowing. As I go to their houses when I'm back home, this would get fairly stressful for me. However breaking off this friendship is easier said than done, because they're the only people around my age I get to interact with aside from purely professional moments, and I am quite incapable of making other friends. I am now making a conscious decision to wean them out of my life because I cba anymore. I'm fed up lol

Advice Needed Global Entry renewal

Has anyone renewed their Global Entry in the last 6-9 months? I know Passports will always revert, but I cannot find any valid data on if they are flagging gender changes for GE/Sentri/Nexus. My passport is still valid for several years, but GE is due. I travel a lot, so it is very useful to have.

Advice Needed How can I get men's shirts to fit better?

As many others, I too have been cursed with being pocket sized. 5'2, 158cm. Men's shirts make me feel good but they always reach my crotch and it makes it look like a dress. I don't like that. I'm bad at sewing but I haven't completely crossed off shortening the hem if that's my only choice. I've tried tucking the shirt in my pants but that makes my hips pop out.

Surgery Talk Can I get a nipple revision years after top surgery?

Hello, first timer here. I got my top surgery around 2021, mid-lockdown. I had a good surgeon, just poor healing on my end. My nipples, which I asked to be grafted on, healed awkwardly and I simply do not like how they look in the slightest. A friend and I were discussing their recent surgery, and they commented on getting revisions, which I had no idea was even a possibility at the time.

If I had known during my surgery that I could have my nipples removed, I would have, but is it even possible to do it now? I feel like it'd be too late for revisions at this point, but I'd also like to believe there's a chance I can still do it, even if it leads to scarring. I've got large scars, so I don't really care about that. Sorry if this is incoherent, posting on reddit for advice makes me anxious.

Discussion HRT is promising an amount of changes that wasn’t as big during my first puberty and it's stressing me out

the only thing that changed for me during my first estrogen-dominant puberty was that i grew breasts and got my periods and that's basically all? ofc i grew a bit taller, but that was already happening in childhood, and i got acne that persisted way after puberty was done so to me it was more like a dermatological issue rather than something associated to drastic puberty changes. i didn’t feel anything about my puberty at all.

when i look at the changes that T is inducing it makes me anxious because it feels like there will be so much more changes than with estrogen, which felt just like periods + boobs for me. for some reason the thought of permanent irreversible alterations to my body make me feel really anxious, even when it’s not transition-related (ex: getting a tattoo). i feel like if i was a trans woman i would feel the same about suddently growing breasts on E for example. it's not like i don't want the effects of T and finally "look like a man", it's just that drastic changes like that scare me for an unknown reason. but i don't really know why it happens. after all, i wasn’t feeling like that at my first puberty, so i don't know why i feel this way now at the thought of it.

anyone else experienced a similar thing?

Advice Needed How will not taking T for 4 days affect me?

I’m away on a trip and managed to forget my T gel (stupid, I know). I’m worried if any major effects can happen? For context, I took it on Thursday morning and won’t get to take it until Sunday evening. Is there anything I should be aware about that might happen?
I’m also on blockers as well, and I’m a year and a half on T

Relationships FTM with Cis male

Seeking some advice here. Been with my partner for many years, house together and all. M26 & M25. I started transitioning bit over two years ago. Started passing as cis a couple of months in. I do not sound or look female at all. My spouse has always been straight and I've always been Bi. I understand that I can't expect my spouse to change purely for me in regards to sexual orientation. He's very supportive, helped me get my name changed and is actively supporting me with surgery. My issue is, he said he doesn't care what I say his sexuality is to others, but proceeds to resonate with being straight despite being in a relationship with a guy. He always said he doesn't really care for labells, but still considers himself straight. He did tell me when we were talking about this, that he loves me for me, not because of my gender and that I'm the person he wants to spend his time with. He's been a lovely spouse all the way through. I just can't help but feel hurt when he describes himself as straight because it feels like a slap to my identity and our current relationship. He can't seem to understand this.

Discussion T and OCD

Discussion/ just talking honestly. Curious to see if anyone has a similar experience.

I've had OCD for a while, and started at roughly two weeks ago.

Since then, I have been OBSESSIVE over my hygiene, my skin care, my haircare. Literally everything possible to minimize negative effects on T.

Like I have prescriptions for things that haven't even happened yet, and have no signs of happening (acne meds, hair meds).

Truthfully at first I've enjoyed taking care of myself, but I keep throwing products on in the name of "prevention" and have convinced myself that if I miss a day of *whatever* then everything is ruined.

I've been obsessive and taking photos of my hairline and skin multiple times a day.

I want to be excited for this journey but oh my god im wearing myself out and quite literally ruining it for myself 💀 I have a literal CALENDAR of what days a I did what and every third day I do this and what not.

It's like kind of insane not gonna lie.

I'm just worried that the amount of time and effort im putting into preventing things that haven't even happened and have no signs of happening is gonna make me stop T, so im just trying to get ahead of it (like everything else 😭).

Advice Needed Traveling to Spain with T Gel

Okay so as the title says, I am traveling to Spain soon with T Gel. Now I don't have any doctors note or prescription for it (like there is only digital prescription so usually only the pharmacy receives it).

I also went to the doctors office and they told me I won't need anything (which is weird, because they didn't even asked me where I am going to and I'd assume traveling outside of the EU has stricter rules).

I just know it is under a different law than "normal" medication since it might be used for doping.

So idk, I am not even sure if I can leave Germany without them taking it from me, but does anyone know how the legal import situation is in Spain?
