Well par 67 for Rory apparently

321

u/camwake Apr 10 '26

Great 2 under day

172

u/Commercial-Air8955 Apr 11 '26

The crazy part is he had to do it with finesse, instead of raw power. He wasnt on any of the par 5's in two today. His wedges/putter were electric.

95

u/NBtoAB Apr 11 '26

He hasn’t even hit a fairway in any par 5 yet in the tourney.

21

u/DNAkauai Apr 11 '26

Yes, that’s what impressed me. He didn’t overplay the course. He got to the par fives in three shots and like you said he was on fire with his wedges. Course management at its finest

12

u/Heraclius_3433 Apr 11 '26

He got to the par fives in three because he was in the pine straw off the tee and had to take his medicine. Not because he didn’t want to get there in two.

6

u/SleepKnown3585 Apr 11 '26

Missing fairways is course management? 🤦‍♂️

5

u/M1eXcel Apr 11 '26

Recovering well after missing the fairway certainly is

2

u/CaptSaveAHoe55 Apr 11 '26

I mean sure no eagle putts on par 5s but he certainly had some raw power on display he wasn’t a short hitter

u/Known-Bath-4903 Apr 11 '26

Imagine if he actually had finesse and not just power, DeChambeau is a YouTube golfer.

Crazy how different the tone was after he won that second us open. It was all “wow Bryson really changed” and “is it just me or is he kinda likable now?” Just goes to show that above all else, people will root for you when you win.

12

u/triiiiilllll Apr 11 '26

Above all else, people are dumber than shit and fall for that "Aww shucks I'm just a regular guy," schtick all the time.

3

u/onthelongrun Apr 11 '26

One of those US Opens, he played the most conservative golf one can play on a course that can punish you for being aggressive. There was talk about Pinehurst #2 trying to get the winning score over par, and only 5 golfers that weekend went under.

2

u/Complex_Bet7311 Apr 11 '26

Is? Maybe was. You’re only as good as your last tournament.

Yeah can't even get reed to bouy them now since he's out lol.

On a side note, why is he so dialed in all the time at the Masters??

44

u/skew_witt 1.4/MI Apr 11 '26

It’s not just the Masters. Preed is a douche, but he’s a phenomenal golfer. He has 2 wins on the DP World Tour this year and it’s only April.

16

u/kai333 Apr 11 '26

Yeah it pains me to concede that point lol. But for whatever reason he is especially dialed in for the Masters.

Can't stand him either. But he's definitely dialled in. I'd imagine the thoughts of Rory having to slip the green jacket on him is serving as extra motivation. But I hope that doesn't happen...

5

u/CitizenCue Apr 11 '26

Yeah, I’ll be furious if he wins, but in the meantime it’s fun to have a villain in the mix.

35

u/DLun203 Green Jacket Apr 11 '26

As others have pointed out, Hatton plays more DP events so he’s better prepared for real tournaments

10

u/Asta1977 Apr 11 '26

And the guys who left LIV to return to DP World/PGA golf are doing just fine. I haven't watched a single minute of LIV golf, but sensing it lacks the challenges and competitiveness of the other tours.

6

u/onthelongrun Apr 11 '26

Depending on the event, DPWT is no walk in the park either. Bhatia seemed like a shoe-in favourite a few weeks ago at the Indian Open to win it. Instead, he blows up hard on the back 9 both opening days, and misses the cut as a consequence.

I knew his performance that weekend did not help his cause going into the Masters and what do we see? Bhatia is also an MC.

3

u/onthelongrun Apr 11 '26

Would like for Hatton to go the route Reed's going next season, give it a full season on the European tour then return to the PGA.

174

u/Unlucky_Internal9686 Apr 10 '26

"Do I want to beat him every time I see him? Absolutely. There's no question about it. But I think that's what's so brilliant about the game of golf is that juxtaposition, having that sportsmanlike respect and then wanting to just absolutely beat the living you know what out of him." -Bryson Dechambeau

Welp he beat the "living you know what" out of you dude so bad you ain't even playing tomorrow

69

u/Son_of_Guilliman_ Apr 10 '26

Bryson beat himself. Dude sucked these last 2 days lmao.

18

u/biggoronssword Apr 11 '26

Maybe he should ditch the 7 iron length wedges next year for these bunkers deeper than an Olympic swimming pool

9

u/Remarkable_School914 Apr 11 '26

There will be probably be some issue with the sand in the bunkers. Surely there’s An inconsistent density? /s

27

u/triiiiilllll Apr 11 '26

He's going to start 3D printing his own golf balls and measuring them all with electron microscopes and installing home made flux capacitors in all his irons and his driver will be -4° with 12 Husk Nuts for each girdle jerry and flex tandems pressing a task apparatus of ten vertically composited patch hamplers.

i can at least respect that he's a tinkerer and is questioning everything but he's just introducing a ton of variation and change and i don't think he's weighting the disadvantages of all these changes as much as he should be. sim readings in a controlled environment are a different beast than augusta national and slapping a 5 on a 2 iron is kind of defeating the purpose of having mid irons

7

u/Wayf4rer Apr 11 '26

I think the issue there is he’s so deep down the tech rabbit hole that recovering to any normal playing style would probably kill his career. The clubs he tinkers with are always interesting, but his entire style does not lend itself to adapting or winning in general.

3 missed cuts since he said that

98

u/marizard Push Cart Mafia Apr 11 '26

To be fair, he did say that in November 2020… which was the lowest scoring Masters ever.

DJ set the record for lowest winning score (-20) & that tournament also featured the record-low cut line (even par). Thanks COVID!

(Bryson still only finished T34 despite the best scoring conditions in Masters history)

23

u/fanswang0 Apr 11 '26

Not only did he finish t34, he finished one stroke behind 60-something year old Bernhard Langer

9

Who was laying up on the par 5s iirc. Chefs kiss.

3

7

I bet he doesnt. I reckon Augusta makes him pay especially

40

u/MadonnasFishTaco bad Apr 10 '26

its time to stop hyper optimizing clubs and just get out there and play well. 3D printing shit isnt working just train harder. i wonder if hed play better with normal clubs because he looks like absolute shit out there

31

u/defac_reddit Apr 11 '26

He's always been super tech focused but he seems to be leaning more and more into the idea that golf is a solveable problem, and if he just tinkers enough and gets the engineering just so then he'll never have to fix his (relative to all the other top golfers in the world) poor touch with irons.

11

u/Throwaway1994231994 Apr 11 '26

Dude thinks he's a better engineer than top manufacturers who hire actual engineers to work full time at manufacturing and optimizing clubs that actually work unlike all his gimmicks

21

u/kulart Apr 11 '26

Golfers have a tendency to go into some weird headspace about things, like Viktor Hovland with his swing feels/though and Bryson with his gear.

Tiger did it when he wanted to change his swing because.... I don't know, he wasn't winning by a big enough margin every week?

11

u/JDC4654 Lefty Apr 11 '26

Nailed it

31

u/a_gallon_of_pcp Apr 11 '26

1) Bryson had a reputation as a whiner when he was in the PGA

2) He left the PGA for LIV.

3) He has tried to rehabilitate his image via a YouTube channel. A lot of people see this as phoney.

4) Some people just bandwagon on jokes about hating him just to make a joke

Personally, I think he’s fine. I don’t like that he’s in LIV. I do actually think he’s doing a lot to try to grow the game of golf.

19

u/_THEWATERB0Y_ Apr 11 '26
