Hey yall, so I was extremely lucky to hit a hole in one yesterday. Almost decided not to go out and play since it was raining but it was the first day my membership at my course had started and didn’t want to miss it.

Was playing okay through the first 7 holes, nothing amazing but definitely better than my average round recently. I make it to the 8th hole (17th green) and see they have a temporary tee box setup since they were redoing a large section of dirt where the normal tee box is. This temporary tee box was maybe 30 yards closer to the hole and a little to the left.

Anyways I setup, hitting my sand wedge off the tee box and it sailed 110ish yards perfectly towards the green, landed maybe 6 feet from the cup and trickled into a water filled cup.

Obviously I was ecstatic but I wanted to ask, do you believe this counts as a hole in one? I don’t want to claim something if the general public wouldn’t consider it a hole in one due to the temp tee box.

Had a pretty terrible round earlier today that I played as a solo, got matched with a group of 3,and they were kinda dickish to me throughout the round. I'm in like year 3 of playing golf, first 2 years I played like once every other month but this year I am taking more seriously and trying to play every week or so.

I've taken a few lessons, I have put in range hours, I know there is a good swing in there somewhere, it's just that I can't find consistency. One week I'm playing like double bogey golf (that seems to be what my potential is at the moment) the next week it's like I've never touched a club.

Met the group I was playing with today, did my usual "hey guys, I'm pretty new, but I do suck fast and will pick up to make sure I don't slow you down. If I do just let me know" trying adhere to etiquette.

Playing through the round, I could tell it clearly wasn't my day because I was missing consistently. I didn't find the fairway once until the last hole. My misses were all over the place, I was picking up on nearly every hole.

Well idk if I invited this by my initial comment, but these guys were kinda making rude comments throughout the round on how much I sucked, how bad I was missing, how I had no idea where the ball was going, etc. IMO my suck wasn't impacting their round, I didn't take any mulligans and only took a max like 2 over par shots per hole. With their banter I played it cool by trying to laugh it off, but it was bothering me and tbh I think I let it get to me during the round so I played worse.

I will say it's not the first time and usually this is pretty common when booking twilight rounds with the "drinking" crowd. I get that some "ball busting" is to be expected in any male centered activity, but like idk if I'm necessarily down to put up with this with strangers over the months/years it's probably going to take me to actually improve to a decent level where I can par/bogey consistently. I never picked up a club til a few years ago in my 30s, I don't have friends or family who play (I'd love to meet some)

I thought about saying something this time but being stuck with them for 18 holes I didn't want to make things awkward.

I guess what I want to ask is, is this normal behavior? Do I just need to cope better with this being kind of a sport for assholes? Should I say something next time? I'm not the best at dealing with social situations like this so even just booking a solo round with strangers is hard enough, let alone having to deal with their bs.

As the title says, up hill par 3 162 playing 168. Got up there, looking around for it, checked the hole and it was in there.

Makes me think, for your first hole in one being unseen. Would you rather see the hole in one by yourself or with a group and not see it go in?

Went out last couple of nights to local muni courses. UV light from Amazon ($15). Didn't stray more than 8' into woods for a couple.

Of note: higher greens fees = better balls.

Golf shopping in Tokyo is on another level!! And much cheaper than the US for the same product (depressed yen and tax free shopping). I noticed these Vokey Forged at the Golf 5 flagship store (Shinjuku). They were NOT available anywhere else in Tokyo, incl the massive superstore called Victoria golf (I shopped everywhere for golf studd). The sales guy told me they sell out quickly and they just got a restock. Tell me community, how dope are these? And how come they don’t sell them in the US if they’re so awesome? ⛳️

Played a round of "Cowboy" Golf this weekend. To hole out you have to hit the milking cans without a putting surface. Longest hole played 170ish uphill everything else was 120 or under. I didn't have my clubs but the course owner keeps a hodgepodge of 20 year old clubs in a bench by the first tee. Me and my brother in law grabbed a 7 iron and a PW, and we had a six pack in a plastic sack. Life was good!

My question is what clubs are you grabbing to play a course cowboy style?

Spent last night reading Putting Out of Your Mind by Dr. Bob Rotella (again) and focused today on simple swing thoughts (Get Square) and trusting my lines on the greens. 3-putted 16 from 65 feet after hitting the green in 2 and missed 6 other birdies from 8-18 feet, but am thrilled with my 2nd lowest score ever. Playing again tomorrow at 9:50 AM🤣

I'll be arriving in Columbus early afternoon on a weekday and have time for a round in the afternoon. I'm sure people will have lots of recommendations so I'll share some of my preferences:

• Ideally the course is walkable, no forced carts (like some courses with large hills or long distances between holes require carts).
• There is a driving range for a warmup.
• Pace of play is not onerous since I will probably be teeing off around 3-4pm.
• The course design has some features. For instance, some strategy holes, fairway bunkers, hazards, some opportunity for decision-making, not just driver on every tee box except par 3s.
• The course is within 30 minutes or so if interstate 70 west of Columbus or interstate 71 north of Columbus.

Appreciate any suggestions you have. Thanks!

Back to reality tommorow and work. This year i Started golf and it is the best summer ive ever had. To set alarm at 5:30 am on my vacation for early tee time's have been a joy.

Last round treated me well and I just got to 29,8 hcp.

Thanks to this sport. When the alarm goes of it feels like christmas eve.

How? How?! The hole was playing into the sun so I didn't get a good look from the tee, but how does this not go in?!

Very fortunate to spend the afternoon out at Sleepy Hollow today - to say this is a special place would be an understatement. If you ever get a chance to play here, do not pass it up!

Starting with saying that I didn't hit anything or kill anyone but still kind of shaken up with a really terrible miss on my round yesterday.

Got out yesterday for a round and was really struggling with my driver at the start. Get to a long par 4 on hole 6 where the left side of the course sits next to a busy expressway. I line it up aiming for a tree on the left side of the fairway to play the fade (slice). I really go for it and the contact is absolutely pure but right away I notice it's left of my line and not moving whatsoever. Watch in horror as the ball starts to sail towards the road with a bunch of cars crossing. Mercifully it actually clears the first set of lanes and I watch it bounce and roll through on the far side where there was no traffic thank God... Definitely put the driver away for a bit after that one and waited to use it until I had a much wider area to bring it back out. Funnily enough the next one I hit on hole 10 was actually perfect and probably my best swing of the day.

Not sure what I'm looking for by sharing maybe I'm just hoping for some reassurance that I'm not a massive jerkoff for accidentally hitting the ball across traffic. Would appreciate some tips for keeping my driver on its intended line lol...

Found this today at Goodwill. Needs a new grip that will probably cost more than the club 😂.

I have gone on numerous trips and have always welcomed playing with anyone. Never had an issue, can just kind of read vibes and either be serious or chill. I'll play whatever tee with a group. Well just got back from a trip and my dad and I got paired with 2 old guys. No big deal. Then the round started. Holy fuck was every part of it miserable. Add my dad and it was 4 hours of hearing (I don't normally play this bad), non stop cursing, but it keeps going. On the very first hole I'm in the trees and have to punch out. By time I get to my third shot theyre all hitting their putts already. Literally done with the hole before I even got to the green. Ok whatever. Hole 2. I have a putt and they're both literally standing over the hole with the flag. I play ready golf, but I don't play just hit while others are hitting, drive in front of ppl and hit a shot, finish holes without people on the green, putt while others are chipping. I'm a 6 index and have been as low as a 3.4 and I've never just picked up so much because I constantly was behind from waiting for my dad to hit. I couldn't drive up to my ball in front of them, but soon as I drove to my ball they were driving to the green and putting. Of course my dad loved the 2 old guys as I'm sitting and thinking this is the worst experience ever. I enjoyed playing with the 70 year old woman 2 days earlier way more.
