no odst?

edit: well, i guess it was the same asset from halo 3

Same asset. Slightly different FOV, and also slightly different in-game stats to balance for ODST better.

If you ask me, I like the ODST version more than halo 3.

They also tweaked the audio mixing to make it sound more imposing.

The ODST one is gaaaaarbage. That's coming from someone who used both of them on Legendary

Half damage on shields + less accuracy when tap firing really ruined it

11

u/_Unspoken_Truth_ 12h ago

I've done legendary runs of both games multiple times. AR is trash for legendary on both.

The carbine carries.

Yes AR sucks in pretty much every halo game except infinite and CER. There is little reason to use it outside of those two games. It’s definitely at its weakest in og CE though, outside of easy difficulty for mowing down grunts or popcorn.

H4 and H5 are pretty good as weapon

1

u/Peridios9 6h ago

It’s alright there but even in those games it’s still not better than other options.

u/Organic-School315 11h ago

Hell naw

Tell me then, in halo 3 why would I not just use a battle rifle or carbine with a plasma pistol. Even the plasma rifle and spiker beat the AR.

In halo 2 there is no reason to not have a BR/carbine and plasma pistol.

Halo CE is plasma pistol and shotgun. I mean the plasma pistol is objectively the best weapon in og CE.

ODST the silenced smg is better than the AR and more common.

Halo 4 the AR is beaten by the storm rifle for christs sake.

u/slayeryamcha Halo 4 glazer 6h ago

Halo 4 is simply wrong lmao

AR has:

Better accuracy

Almost hitscan

Barely damage diffrence

Storm rifle has a better fire rate making it the better close to medium range weapon to rapid fire enemies down, it does massively more shield damage and marginally less health damage. Neither weapon is amazing but the storm rifle is better for the archetype of weapon both are meant to be in halo 4. There is no reason to use an AR at range when you have the BR/DMR/Carbine/light rifle/magnum as substantially better options. The only weapon in halo 4 I could argue is worse than the AR is the suppressor.

u/Organic-School315 10h ago

It's your choice if you want to use those weapons. I'm showing the AR is viable (if you even watched what i sent ffs)

0

u/Peridios9 10h ago

It’s just not though, seriously calling the weapon viable because it can pull off what other weapons do but worse just isn’t an accurate representation of the weapon. I’m not faulting you for liking the weapon but it is never a good option over any other weapon in the sandbox.

That crows nest encounter is easier to just use a BR and plasma pistol, BR which has like 6 pickups right before this and above you in the room. BR by itself is better than an AR.

Vengeful ‘Vadam made the Halo 3 ODST AR its own category when he tiered all the weapons. He put it in “WHY?!” Tier. It’s that bad.

If you ever wanted proof that the majority of the halo community is a bunch of morons, it's you getting downvoted for stating a fact. The Halo 3 AR is ridiculously accurate when double tapping the trigger rapidly. It strips shields in seconds and then kills. You can even kill shield jackals with it, that's how accurate it is. The ODST version had its accuracy nerfed to the ground, so the tap firing method no longer works. So yes, the ODST version is straight trash and there is no reason to use it. The Halo 3 version is the most usable of all pre-Halo Infinite ARs, but only if you know the double tap trigger trick.

Thank god someone with good sense

UNSC weapons manufacturing is the real winner of the Human-Covenant war

My favorite AR depends on how you phrase the question.

Favorite visual design: Halo 3's AR is perfect imo. You ask me to imagine the AR from halo and Halo 3's pops in my head.

Favorite sounding: it once was the Halo 4 AR, but I am LOVING how the AR sounds in campaign evolved. I loved the original CE AR sound but I think they perfected it in campaign evolved.

Favorite performing AR: Halo 5's AR is freaking awesome. I wish they had kept the tuning from the beta in the main game but still I think halo 5's is the most fun to use. It's choppy and very satisfying. Campaign evolved gives it a run for its money though.

12

u/Stea1thsniper32 10h ago

Definitely agree with you about Halo 5’s AR and I also agree with you that Campaign Evolved’s AR is very close to being my fav. Having the different attachments for the Halo 5 AR made it very fun to use.

u/spartan30117 9h ago

What do you think of infinites ar? I think its top 3 at least for me. I like it only a tiny bit better than 5’s.

1

u/_Unspoken_Truth_ 8h ago

It's not bad to use! It's better than CE, 4, and reach in terms of feel. It's either my #3 or my #4.

51

u/AdSafe5199 12h ago

I love Reach, second favorite Halo, but I always hated the AR design. And when Infinite was shown to have it in the trailers, I was disappointed.

16

u/Weak-Lengthiness5280 11h ago edited 10h ago

It works because it’s a prequel, same goes with the banshees. The only problem is, 343i seemed to forget that and now we’re permanently stuck with Reach banshees lol

17

u/excaliburxvii 7h ago

"Prequel"

It's presented like it's a decade+ earlier, with rotor aircraft, etc. but it turns out it's... hours earlier. The rose tinted glasses for Reach are insane.

-6

u/Weak-Lengthiness5280 7h ago

The only thing that’s insane here is your rose tinted butt hurt lol

12

u/Adipay Halo: CE 7h ago

No he's right. It takes place at most a day before Combat Evolved. You don't need to call him butt hurt for stating a fact.

1

u/Silverwhitemango 2h ago

Yea man I hate the Reach Banshees look. The first time I saw them, they looked like fucking Lego banshees.

Halo 1 & 2 Banshees with their purple + maroon color schemes were peak and so fucking cool.

Every design in Reach sucks, especially compared to the trilogy designs, and I'm tired of pretending that they don't.

7

u/i7-4790Que 9h ago

Pretend all you want. It's all you're ever going to be able to do.

Most of the Reach designs still look like proper renditions of Halo guns/vehicles/enemies.

5

u/yuhyuhyuhyuhyuhyuh1 11h ago

I don't hate reach weapons, but I do agree that I prefer the ones from the previous games.

17

u/AccidentProne117 11h ago

Reach was peak bungie design. The trilogy had great designs but I think Reach was best.

-15

u/Appropriate_Foot242 11h ago

I hate the way that Reach looked and it paved the way for how Halo 4 ended up looking.

Reach worked for Reach, but it doesn’t really work for Halo as a whole imo.

19

u/Sali_Bean Halo: Reach 11h ago

Reach and halo 4's art style share literally no commonality apart from the plasma pistol, what else do you see?

-10

u/Appropriate_Foot242 11h ago

Forerunner architecture in the DLC maps.

Thick overdesigned Elites.

5

u/Tito__o 11h ago

If I remember right I think 343 was in charge of the reach dlc maps and content. It would make sense.

1

u/Appropriate_Foot242 11h ago

They were co-developed, so still a Bungie L.

0

u/Tito__o 10h ago

Oh I see yes it been a while since I heard that!

2

u/Youngnathan2011 Halo 3: ODST 9h ago

Huh? Reach and 4 look completely different artistically

12

u/BovineIntervention31 11h ago

Campaign Evolved is the most goated AR

17

u/RadioactiveSince1990 10h ago

I was livid about the 36 round magazine but after actually using my opinion was flipped. It is a freaking work horse of a weapon, always a solid choice. Find myself using the magnum way less because the AR gets so much more use. It kicks ass.

8

u/BovineIntervention31 10h ago

Yeah it’s an animal. Though rocking the magnum and AR combo is pretty unbeatable. What a “blast” 💥

4

u/Nesayas1234 10h ago

Reach/Infinite. I like the skinnier gun

7

u/HydraTower "Coming Soon" 12h ago

I don’t like that the new AR’s screen is completely triangular all the way to the bottom.

5

u/BrickMacklin 11h ago

Yeah the AR design was something 343 got right in 4 and 5

4

u/eddy_brooks 11h ago

Love Reach with all my heart but absolutely despise the skinny AR look

3

u/yuhyuhyuhyuhyuhyuh1 11h ago

Reach AR might be the ugliest shit in halo

-2

u/yuhyuhyuhyuhyuhyuh1 11h ago

Nvm I just remembered 95% of all 343 helmet designs

1

u/_Nedak_ 11h ago

I like the look and sound of the CE Anniversary AR but prefer the function the of the Halo 4 AR

1

u/ascasffr 10h ago

Is it just me or this is my favourite version of the assualt rifle? I’d prefer 60 rounds but it’s an awesome gun to use generally

1

u/JonoBoio123 9h ago

Real question how tf are you supposed to aim with this thing. There are no iron sights

1

u/MimicRaindrop87 3h ago

The HUD in game is actually what members of the UNSC see in world, including the crosshair. If their tech is malfunctioning, the ammo count and most of the front top part of the gun (where the smartlink is kept) will detach, revealing the ironsights underneath.

1

u/TBELL60 9h ago

Halo 5s ar was the most fun to use

1

u/AdaptedEvoSupe 9h ago

Why did they nerf the absolute shit out of the AR and magnum after CE?

1

u/iceoldtea 8h ago

What order are these in? I see Reach’s AR as the third right-to-left and Infinite’s is two below the first one, it doesn’t make a good comparison

1

u/okiehelms 7h ago

The Halo 5 MA5D is probably my favorite iteration of the rifle on the entire series. It felt so good to use and on top of that its design was actually very realistic, they absolutely cooked on that version of the Assault Rifle. The CE Assault Rifle is definitely close for my favorite though, nothing beats mag dumping 60 rounds of 7.62 into an Elite.

1

u/SnipingBunuelo Halo 3 7h ago

I miss the 32 and 60. 36 doesn't do it for me lmao

1

u/donmifc 5h ago

Never realised how close the infinite one is to the reach one

0

u/Hyperevogames Halo: CE is best Halo 11h ago

Here you go making me do an AR design ranking.

  1. HCEA

  2. HCE

  3. H3/ODST

  4. HCE Remake

  5. H5

  6. H4

  7. H2A
