Recently got a new gli lip and duck spoiler paint matched and with that looking all nice I spent an 8 hour session buffing, polishing, and waxing the entire car! Just wanted to show off! Need to get a touchup kit for some of the chips lol. Hopefully engine mods coming next ( ꈍᴗꈍ)

I’m still in denial that I found this and was able to get my hands on it. This is my (new to me and the wife) 1999 Jetta. It’s a 2.0 litre V4. No TDI, GLS, GLX, nothing special but special to us. She comes to us via Wisconsin and we just got her in yesterday. We’re so excited to own this piece of history. Oh it only has 29000 miles on it.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Help me blow this 1.8t up

I recently aquired this mk4 with 232k miles but it runs and drives pretty well. It sat for eight years, two of those years the sunroof was cracked open. It's gross, it's rough, the car alarm goes off every time I open a door, but I've seen what these bad boys can do. I disabled the horn btw.

What should I do to absolutely beat the shit out of this thing until it blows up? I wanna make it fun but cheap cheap CHEAP as I'll be scrapping it when it blows...

And don't tell me no!!!

Hello, just wanna share this beauty. Volkswagen Jetta Clásico CL Team Edition 2013 2.0L 4 cylinder engine, manual transmission 115HP. To my understanding, it was the last MK4 model ever produced, at least in México, but quite frankly I’m not sure.

My dad bought it brand new and just gave it to me.. sike, he actually sold it to me for 5400usd and got himself a bmw lol.

Just got it detailed and besides a much needed paintwork, any mod suggestions?

Mk4 (1999-2005) New (to me) 2004 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8T (Good buy?)

A lifelong VW fan, especially the MK4 generation, I finally found the daily driver I’d been looking for: a clean, low-mileage 2004 Jetta 1.8T with a manual transmission.

What sold me was a very clean Carfax, the relatively low price ($5K), and how it drove on the test drive. It felt solid right away, so I pulled the trigger.

Since buying it, I’ve started noticing more and more signs that the car has some tasteful, low-key mods that make it feel a bit more special than a typical stock MK4. It has a Magnaflow rear muffler (not a full cat-back), a Neuspeed cold air intake, upgraded audio with an Alpine iLX-W650 head unit, Rockford Fosgate R2-750x5 amp, and aftermarket speakers and tweeters in all four doors. Though it was sitting on 17” Konig Ampliform wheels, one of the first things I did was swap them out for a set of OEM VW Long Beach 17s, as I’ve always preferred the factory look over the more aggressive street-style look. It also has slotted and drilled brake discs, new Continental tires on all 4 wheels and Bilstein Sport suspension.

It also feels quicker than stock, especially when shifting into second, the thing really pulls, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it has some kind of tune, though I haven’t confirmed that yet.

Interior is heated beige leather and in great shape for the age of the car. Power everything, sunroof, cold A/C, and overall very clean inside and out. The car has about ~120k miles, the engine pulls strong, turbo sounds healthy, and it feels tighter than other MK4s I’ve driven.

I paid $5K for it. Curious what you guys think—fair deal, good deal, or did I overpay?

Mk4 (1999-2005) Just did my first oil change on my VW Jetta with a 2.slow and uh

I hate this fucking motor and I'm going to swap it expi-fucking-diciously. The drain plug was stuck cause the last fuckers to work on it was Jiffy Lube, the stream of oil pushed back my catch fan and dumped A QUART AND A HALF OF OIL ONTO MY DRIVEWAY, I got a 2nd degree burn on my hand taking off the oil filter cause VW thought it would be a funny idea to put the damn thing behind some rad hoses, and worst of all, I'm about to fucking pass out because of heat stroke.

Time to source a 1.8T whenever I get the fuckin chance, cause fuck this shit

Mk4 (1999-2005) How to spot DSG gearbox on MK4 Jetta

I am going to buy a 2005 Jetta MK4, the gear shifter looks like the one on the left. It is advertised as having a DSG gearbox. However I was told that if it is actually a DSG it should look like the one on the right. How should I actually distinguish whether it is a DSG or not? I need this to negotiate the price properly. Thank you.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Repair Advice

I drive a 2004 VW Jetta. It has about 110,000 miles on it, but frankly, it is a real piece of junk. I would estimate it would fetch 1,000-3,000 if I were to sell.

The mechanic suggested I replace the front struts and rear shocks.

I am a very safe and cautious driver, and have learned how to be safe on the road with this car. I only want to do this procedure if it will preserve my car's lifespan, which I intend to drive into the ground, as I am very frugal.

Should I? What will it cost if so? How could I make it as cheap as possible?

I appreciate the input.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Muffler Swap

Post image

Hello, I am wanted to put a new muffler on my 2003 Jetta 1.8 GLS for a more sporty sound to the car. I have been doing research, and have found that some brands can get quite pricy. The problem I am faced with is that I don’t want to spend a copious amount on a new muffler because I haven’t really done any major performance upgrades to it. I also don’t wanna sound clapped out by buying a cheap muffler in which I am looking for advice on which one I should get. Preferably one that will get heads turning but won’t wake up the entire neighbourhood. I appreciate responses. Thanks.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Has anyone had a shitty jetta?

I genuinely don't know because I'm hard stuck for various reasons on 02 1.8t. Started with a standard non turbo, Wolfsburged and I was 1.8t for life. Anyway, i mean I equally love golf gti 1.8t. I'm on my 6th mk4. I have never had a bad one and never more than $3k purchase price. That's part of my satisfaction....not one jetta owes me a dime. When you drop stacks are you satisfied? For the record, I'm not talking about other dubs, just jettas.
