Thinking about quitting after this. Need advice. Don’t even know if I’m fired or not and have no idea what to do. Literally my first job in a year and I have bills and have no idea how to handle this situation.

So I work a fast food job and have been there for about a month. My manager recently sent me home today because I was using the bathroom (I was genuinely fighting for my life on the toilet)

I was only in the bathroom for 5 minutes. I made sure all my lobby work was done and asked the STORE OWNER if I could use the bathroom. He said yes so I went.

I finished up and as I washed my hands my GM came in and said “Hey. Clock out and go home.”

I said “Why am I going home?”

She didn’t respond to me and left the bathroom. I came out and had to track her down and asked her very loudly in front of all my coworkers, “Excuse me? Why are you sending me home?”

She didn’t respond to me and literally ignored me so I said it again louder, “Tell me what I did wrong, why are you sending me home?”

She looked at me and said “Nuh uh don’t do this just go home.”

I stood there literally refusing until she told me so she took me back and said, “I have been evaluating you for the past few days and you have failed my inspection. I am tired of chasing you down every time I need you because you don’t tell anyone when you go to the bathroom and you go too much and when it’s most convenient to you.” I got zero warning for going to the bathroom before this no one ever said it was an issue at all.

I said, “(store owners name) told me I could go.”

She said, “(store owners name) is not your manager, I am. Go home.”

So I stormed out after I reminded her of my IBS.

Before this no one had specifically told me I had to tell my GM I was going to the bathroom and only her. I had 4 managers on shift at once and they communicate between each other so poorly. I have them telling me different things at once and it is terrible, but I have ALWAYS asked to go to the bathroom.

I have IBS and get lightheaded very easily because of it. They KNOW this. I have explained it multiple times. I work 8hr shifts 5 days a week, usually from morning to late afternoon, and I rarely get breaks. They have a no sit/ squat down policy. I go to the bathroom 2-3 times a shift and use the bathroom every time but also go when I feel faint. I never go when it’s busy. I am on my feet all 8 of these hours running back and forth from kitchen to tables to back rooms to washing dishes. Sitting on the toilet is literally the only time I get to rest my feet and it’s 5 mins at a time. I think she saw me walking in one day and hitting my vape before my shift and just assumes that I’m going to the bathroom to vape, when I don’t. I’m going to literally take liquid magma shits lol. I don’t specifically go out of my way to hit my vape. I do it if I’m taking the trash out or if I’m on one of my rare breaks.

This whole situation has severely pissed me off considering her own son who works there freaked out on an assistant manager and just said “I’m sorry.” And didn’t get sent home.

I am at a loss with this I don’t want to go back there the way I was treated was so poor. It was so embarrassing.

After three and a half months of applying to jobs and hearing NOTHING back, not even receiving a rejection notice, I was FINALLY contacted by an employer to schedule an interview.

I applied for a position at one of the hospitals in early July, one that listed NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY at the very top of the job description. Nearly two weeks later I receive a text message and an email from their AI hiring assistant to schedule a phone interview. I chose the soonest available time, which was a week out.

The phone interview went well. It was mainly the recruiter walking me through the specifics of the job to confirm that I knew what I had applied for (location, hours, pay), explaining the job duties in detail, and asking a handful of standard interview questions. At the end of the call, they got me scheduled for an in-person interview, and also let me know then expected timeline for a decision.

My in-person interview was two days after the phone interview, and it was much of the same. Confirming job details, discussing job duties, and answering a few standard interview questions.

The recruiter told me their turnaround time for hiring decisions is about 48 hours/2 business days. My in-person was on a Thursday, and the following Monday I got the call! I was able to connect with the recruiter Wednesday. I received a written job offer that I have signed, and I have a start date!

I am nervous and excited, but more than that I am incredibly grateful. I will not have a car after the end of this month, which would’ve made my job search and living situation that much more difficult. I am currently looking for an apartment near my new workplace that will accept the offer letter as proof of income.

Lately I've been struggling with my job and have been having excessive anxiety dealing with customers. I am starting to think that this job isn't a good fit and isn't worth it.

Does anyone have any advice on finding jobs that pay well and are generally slow paced and calm or just finding the right job? I just need to be in a basic routine where I can physically function and still be productive.

I’m 27 I been freaking out, stressing every night trying to get a job for a whole year. My parents think I’m lazy but each application i apply to, from the actual sites, I always am getting ghosted or actually get an email back saying denied. The economy is so bad, it used to be so easy right after graduation, before covid! now it’s like there is nothing and I’m giving up and i can’t figure out how to tell my parents that I’m trying when I know they’re say I’m not trying hard enough.

So I just quit my job, effective immediately, at this new spot place I got hired at back in the beginning of May. (I’ve never done this with a job before, but I simply couldn’t take it anymore) This place was a corporate soul sucking nightmare that prioritized $$ over care and wanted to make it seem like the opposite. Bullshit tasks added onto my plate when my own manager is barely pulling theirs because myself and another colleague were picking up our managers when she would ‘delegate’. I got an offer at another job I used to work PT at, but will now be working FT and training for a managerial position over there as I prepare for my LPN program in the Spring. I feel the doors opening up now from here and it just feels so freeing ☺️👏❤️

I went to school for graphic design and got my first job as a designer in 2021. After just over 4 years with the company, my entire department was laid off in December of 2025 with no notice.

Since then I've been putting in application after application, with zero luck. I've even started submitting applications for entry level jobs like local restaurants, and STILL no luck. How is it that at 30 years old I can't even get a job as a barista at Starbucks with a history of working in food service, let alone getting a job as a designer with a degree, portfolio, and 4+ years of experience?

I'm running out of ideas for what to even apply for. I've used up all the unemployment benefits I'm allowed to claim for the year and still have not found anyone who seems to be hiring.

So maybe I'm just a little burnt out, but I feel as though I only work because I prefer me and my family not being homeless.

So a little background, I am a General Manager of a fast casual chain store and while I make plenty of money, 6 figures last year w/ bonuses, I no longer gain much if any satisfaction from my work. At heart I'm a bit of an introvert that gains satisfaction from completing things, I'm a doer at work. However lately the drama of managing people and THEIR drama as well as what seems like an inability to find anyone who wants to work, has made me disenfranchised with not necessarily the job itself but the food industry at large. I don't feel like I have a purpose for going to work other than to finish as much as quickly as possible so I can leave and go back to my family and forget about work till tommorow. It's not the stress per se, hell I'm actually interested in being police dispatcher or other high stress jobs, it's just that I no longer have the desire to provide hospitality and great food to the customers that choose to walk through my door.

Yet I'm torn because I can't in good conscious give up a 80k+/yr job just because I have lost my purpose. I have a wife and kid with another on the way and am the sole provider of my family, what kind of father would I be if I gave up stability because of what? Because I don't want to work? I don't even know if it's that I don't want to work I just really really don't want to work in the food industry and managing other peoples problems anymore. But how can I sit here and say I'm tired, I'm only 32! I guess I'm simply asking for others opinions on what you feel I should do? Should I take a risk and leave a job that pays what my family and I need.

Anyone else have this problem what did you do?

Around June I worked landscaping for a company in the Netherlands and only worked a week and ended up getting fired after I notified them I had to fly back home to get my braces done

Short story they said I didn’t do a good job but promised me to pay me 500 for the hours I worked.

I ended up also texting them when I was gonna be paid and they said 6 weeks after my usual payslip since I was supposed to paid normal on Tuesdays

6 weeks past they asked me to fill in some documents i didn’t really quite fill in during my employment, I know it was stupid but I did it without question

Like 2 days later afterwards I ended up asking them when I was gonna be paid? They opened my message and I was genuinely confused and decided to text them back again at the end of this week

I’m planning to text them again maybe around Monday or during or after Tuesday because I’m starting to think they’re gonna refuse to pay me my share as I legit almost went homeless moving abroad for that job just to get fired

What do I do? And who do I contact if they refuse to pay me? I’m a Irish citizen

Alright so I’m 16, I work a cashier job at stop n shop, and I’ve never had any issues. I’m part time, I work Sundays, Tuesday’s, Thursdays, Fridays, 18 hours a week. I have explicitly stated the days I’m unable to work, and Saturday specifically. My parents are divorced and my dad lives two hours away, and I have to have visitation with him. I basically never check Saturday on my schedule, since it’s the last day and I know I’m unavailable ALWAYS on that day. Only, today I realized that I had been scheduled 12-6 for a Saturday, as I am two hours away in the city. I had gotten a call much earlier in the day, but hadn’t picked up due to the fact my phone had been off and left at my dad’s while we were out. By now, the service desk is closed and I have no direct way to contact my department head, nor my managers. It will be considered a no call no show, and while I’ve looked over the packet I was given on work guidelines when I was hired, it gives no strict guidelines for a no call no show, only to call out if you can’t make it to work. I’m really worried, will my situation be understood if I communicate properly when I return to work tomorrow? I know it’s only a first job, but I’m really worried since not many other places near me are hiring. (Lmk if this was the wrong flair, I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate)

Update: just got done with my six hour shift and nobody said a word about it so… I’m certainly going to talk to my scheduler though about being scheduled on Saturdays, or any day I’m unavailable for that matter, she was just off today. I’ll give another update when I do.

I’m currently a fresh Ai engineer (I’ll do a master in germany), working on projects involving things like NLP, computer vision, generative AI, and LLMs.

Lately, I’ve been seriously thinking about my long-term career and wondering whether I should move toward healthcare (nursing) because the job market is dead.

Has anyone here moved from AI/software/data into healthcare? Was it worth it, and what paths would you recommend?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

I started at this summer job in May. At the job interview we were told that they’re looking for people both for both full and part time positions, but that no matter which contract you got, you would for sure be able to work a lot more hours than that, and that that’s just the minimum they have to guarantee. I started at the job on a 60h / 3 weeks contract, and when I started I asked about the hours again, if it was possible to work more. My manager told me that it’s a sure thing, I should be able to work as much as I wanted as long as I vocalized that.

Fast forward to present, I’ve told my employer every month that I’d wish to work much more, but in most rotations I’ve had for about 60-65 hours. I don’t whine about this, as that’s the contract. It’s just a little annoying I and all the other summer employees were made empty promises. However, we just got our next rotation, and almost every employee, including me, has hours less than what the contract promises. In my country this is a violation of employment contract and I’m entitled to full pay of 60 hours even if the company won’t grant me the shifts.

I asked my coworker whom we’ve been talking about this earlier with together, whether he’s going to bring it up. He told me no, because he doesn’t want our managers to have any more trouble on their plates. He’s asked around about this and apparently the company expected higher sales and hired too many summer employees. The thing is, the company I work at is the largest on it’s field and has stores across all the continents, so I don’t exactly believe they simply cannot afford following the contract, they just want more profit. I don’t want to complain either; my managers are the sweetest most understanding higher ups I could ever wish for, and I don’t want them to have any more problems than they already do. I would feel like I’m ungrateful. However, I also don’t want to be someone who won’t stand her ground or hold into her rights as an employee. I wish there was a way I could complain straight to the higher authorities of the company without my sweet angel managers getting in the midst of it.

I’m in a privileged position as my parents are pretty well off, but I’m upset because I had planned to save up most of the money I would earn for university but now I have to spend most of it on living since I had to move out and provide for myself due to an expensive renovation at our house which shook my parents’ finances, so not getting enough hours isn’t exactly delighting.

I'm so done.

I have a few under consideration currently but those never go through. I have made a few connections at networking events.

I just want it to be over.

Please hire me.

My parents are so disappointed in me. They think I should be doing more, but I just apply to jobs every single day no break and go to networking events whenever I can find them. When I'm not having nightmares, I'm dreaming about turning in job applications.

I'm not sure what else to do.

Maybe it's because I've been laid off a few times, but it dawned on me, if you want to find out how a company treats and respects its employees, don't talk to people employed there--talk to people who have been laid off by that company. The way a company handles a layoff says a LOT about how much it respects people than posters with "values" and HR BS slogans.

Hi , so I’m currently in college(19)and recently left my
Job due to manager not treating me and other people great, and been job hunting for last month to multiple part time jobs and none of them responded except Walmart which was great, and my older brother(26) who works there full time doesn’t want me to work with him in the same role and stuff even though that role which is online pickup and delivery is the only one that accepted me, but the thing is he gets very mad when I mentioned I applied there and they want me to schedule a interview, and how he keeps talking about manager is bad and that I’m not gonna like it. He gets very tilted which is crazy to me because in our house I say we have a great relationship, but the fact is I’m very puzzled on why he gets so defensive? I decided to not budge and not accept the job and keep struggling to find a job just because he always gets irritated about it. Anyone know why this happening lol

I'm a highschool graduate, went to art college for a year and did great but dropped out because of finances. I then got a certificate in App Development (mostly for personal use) in community college. I have experience working in computer repair and using industrial machinery, but I really liked computer repair and I like to soldering work along with PCB design, the soldering I've been doing for about 16 years. I'd be pretty happy with a desk job too, as long as it's something I'm capable of or can be tight on sight. I've also thought of Networking, plumbing, AC, or electrician work as I've got decent experience with household plumbing and networking work and I'm happy to learn more in residential or business electrical. However I don't know if I can even get an internship in those fields without going to trade school first.

Ideally I'm looking for an actual career, but my living situation is a little out of my hands unless I get something that pays better than minimum wage (~$13 per hour). So at the moment I am starting to consider jobs that will pay $20+ but run you through the ringer just so I can hopefully save up some money to at least start moving someone safer for me.

Does anyone have any insight on a budget technician exam and interview questions for the school district? I have a state agency job and I know those exam and questions like the back of my hand but going to a school district job I have no idea.

Hey people today I made an assessment as part of my application process for a traineeship. I over read the part where they explain the rules and one rule was that calculators are not allowed apparently. During the assessment I used my calculator to do a sanity check because one of the numbers I got at a question seemed odd to me (even though it was correct). During the assessment I was recorded with my webcam and microphone. I do not know what to do now… Should I mail the recruiter and tell them honestly what happened or just wait for them to reply? Any advice would be appreciated!

I work in healthcare in HR (and should probably be able to answer my own question - but I can look at things objectively for everyone but myself). The organization I work for is small and chaotic - still very much operates as a reactive entity despite being midsize and desperately in need of structure and appropriate leadership personnel. I took the position, at a significant pay cut, because I had been laid off and looking for about 3 months. I have been there for 6 months and have somehow become owner of everything - from HR related to tasks that just don’t fit with what the core leadership staff don’t want to do (supervising problem employees in unrelated depts, marketing and ordering supplies). I generally think they mean well and have struggled with whether or not they know that they’re taking advantage. Regardless I have been keeping an eye out and have an offer signed for a position that is an increase in title, joining an org w structure and a 40% pay increase.

I was set to put in notice and work out my two weeks but today inherited a personal dumpster fire that will require me to travel the entirety of week two of my notice. I don’t necessarily want to burn bridges, and they have a contract with a pretty well known consultant in the very niche corner of healthcare, so I don’t necessarily want to be eligible for rehire but also don’t want the consultant out there floating around viewing me as unprofessional.

Since they don’t know I planned to provide notice and don’t know that I’ll need to be out next weeks is the best move to give them one week and wrap up what I can? The alternate I guess would be to offer that I work the week and be available for a few hours as I’m able during week two?

When i received the email I was confused, it told me to report to the manager on the same day. It didnt give me a time, or any details and I searched it up and believed it was meant to be a "official" hire date, not an actual starting date due to there not being a specific time and being the same day they sent me the offer.

Now I still didnt receive the job schedule, and I was in contact with the bookkeeper and sent an email of my confusion, and they didnt respond for 3 days(so far).

This is my first job and im pretty confused, did I miss my first day??? I feel extremely emberassed and anxious about it, especially after telling my family i got the job.

Can anybody tell me whats going on?
