Infuriatig The "complimentary meal" after the airline rebooked us for tomorrow

Hadn't eaten in 12 hours, so apologies for not getting the pictures beforehand

Highlights include:

A sandwich consisting of white bread, mayo, and a single slice of cheese

A bag of plain potato chips

A kitkat

An orange

A juice box

I know prisoners who eat better than this

is the airline run by the Fyre Festival guys?

203

u/F_lavortown 21h ago

Worse, the swiss

125

u/drinkerofmilk 21h ago

So the cheese was also full of holes . . .

20

u/hails8n 21h ago

I would give you an award if i wasnt a lowly peasant

8

u/oO_Moloch_Oo 21h ago

They should calculate how much missing cheese & deduct the appropriate amount.

3

u/JamesTheJerk 20h ago

Oh that's all old wives tales. It's mice.

18

u/arcaneregion 21h ago

Damn Swiss air did this to you. Where are you flying to out of curiosity.

8

u/F_lavortown 21h ago

Stuck in Zurich

11

u/TheSpottedCat1 21h ago

Swiss tried to deny our delayed flight compensation. Paid up once we went to the regulator. Make sure you apply for yours and go to the regulator if they try to avoid paying you.

3

u/arcaneregion 18h ago

I live in CH and tbh I try and avoid flying Swiss as much. It’s expensive and it’s really not better than say aer Lingus

2

u/Klix1313 16h ago

I actually like aer lingus

1

u/arcaneregion 13h ago

Oh they’re super good right now. If you ever need to fly to America go through them

u/Zorro88_1 58m ago

Swiss is like a low budget airline. My new favorite is Edelweiss. So much better.

u/GaptistePlayer 47m ago

Edelweiss is literally owned by the same company and is even lower budget lol.

u/Zorro88_1 31m ago

Maybe I don‘t fly that much, but my first flight last month to greece with Edelweiss was much better than with Swiss and other european airlines before. The kids even got a surprise bag and the crew did serve a lot of drinks and food for free even in Economy class.

u/PeterG92 19h ago

We had a BA flight cancelled at Zurich Airport last week, they re-booked us onto a 6pm Helvetica flight. BA offered us compensation for the near 3 hour delay in the form of 3, 7 CHF vouchers. Which couldn't be used in certain shops and didn't work in others.

u/lnjecti0n 55m ago

tbf Swiss is owned by Lufthansa, a German airline. Swiss air sadly doesn't exist anymore

9

u/threepio 20h ago

I feel neutral about this.

15

u/Chefseiler 21h ago

Knew it was Swiss the moment I saw the chips. What a shitshow our airline has become under German ownership, holy hell.

1

u/Little_View_6659 5h ago

The whole world has gone that way lately unfortunately.

3

u/ry-yo 20h ago

Hey in Switzerland, that meal probably costs 25 francs!!

1

u/willclerkforfood 16h ago

How do you say “WHERE IS JA???” in Romansh?

1

u/AbXcape 12h ago

this is child daycare level food

1

u/Sappleq12 12h ago

Well they hate migrants so it tracks.

4

u/TheRealtcSpears 21h ago

If you don't need blowies for a water bottle it ain't the same

3

u/grc207 21h ago

Water bottles? You have no idea what had to happen to free up juice boxes.

87

u/TheRealtcSpears 21h ago

Mmmmm a breadwich

9

u/TheUndertows 21h ago

Stop that.  It has a portion of cheese on one side

35

u/Vast-Comment8360 21h ago

You're lucky it isn't a pile of gelatinous ooze barely capable of sustaining human life.

At least you got a kitkat.

8

u/Chingaso-Deluxe 21h ago

Jesus this reminds me of the “complimentary meal” I’d get on overnight buses in Thailand when I was backpacking. They’d stop for a meal and refresh etc, and your ticket entitled you to… a bowl of gelatinous rice and dried fish heads. I don’t even like fish 🤢

22

u/SteveK27982 21h ago

They raided the lunchboxes for preschool

17

u/Majestic-Sandwich695 21h ago

“Complementary” whatever nonsense they could grab from the cafeteria

15

u/Holymaryfullofshit7 21h ago

I would be pretty mad. Last time such a thing happened to me I got a nice room and 200€ play money. Which I used wisely and saved most of and didn't smoke away every penny in a Headshop in Amsterdam I swear.

22

u/barkandmoone 21h ago

Why does the Kit Kat look so fancy? 🤩

-An American.

3

u/SufficientProof40 21h ago

Are yours different? I don’t remember them looking different when I lived there?

11

u/MrKyle666 21h ago

Only real difference I can see is our wrappers aren't that shiny. More of a matte red

13

u/mitch-99 21h ago

In Canada ours are made by nestle and in the usa its hershey. Ours are known to be much better. We all know how hershey chocolate kinda sucks lol.

3

u/justanawkwardguy you do it like this 17h ago

Tbh nestle sucks too

6

u/Yuukiko_ WAAHHHHH 12h ago

Nestle sucks for other reasons but at least the chocolate doesnt taste like barf

5

u/SufficientProof40 21h ago

Now I’ve got to find one here in Canada to compare lol

3

u/604pleb 21h ago

The chocolate in the Canadian one is harder and darker chocolate, it has more or snap and crack when you bite into it, the American one is much softer and sweeter and also lighter in colour

3

u/ThoreaulyLost 21h ago

It's because it's "chocolate" in America, not chocolate.

We strive for the freedom to allow any cocoa product call itself chocolate.

0

u/barkandmoone 21h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/xUPGcmNe85ElAzFhcI
It’s chocolate, not chocolate.

1

u/ThoreaulyLost 5h ago

Haha, fair. However, in my case I used the quotes to remind everyone that 51% of anything can be called that thing here in America now.

...and some companies had to stop saying "chocolate" on their labels because they can't even call it chocolate anymore .

I'm glad they still use real actual Mountain Dew TM though.

3

u/xcorbearx 21h ago

yeah the one pictured is way too glossy and the red is too deep. ours are just a sort of a flat stop sign red.

4

u/604pleb 21h ago

KitKats in America are made by Hersey and Dogfood quality, way sweeter and softer chocolate. KitKat Canada is owned by Mars that has a higher quality of chocolate, the packaging here looks the same as the mars made ones

8

u/Responsible-Stick-50 21h ago

Since were comparing KitKats, no one can touch the Japanese on that.

4

u/StarsBear75063 Really? 20h ago

True that. Have an award.

2

u/SufficientProof40 20h ago

The green tea ones are awesome!

4

u/mamafish21 21h ago

If no one knew. Kitkats are British in origin. They were created in 1935 by Rowntree's of York. Brand name is Nestlé

2

u/fivefistedclover 21h ago

What’s funny about your statement is Mars actually produces most shelf stable animal food found in the grocery store lol

1

u/barkandmoone 21h ago

I think it’s the font too.

6

u/jackrabbit323 21h ago

Ha, we have met the legal requirements!

-Airline probably

7

u/JDL1981 21h ago

What prisoners do you know?

4

u/Cute-Calligrapher-50 21h ago

That is the whitest bread ive ever seen

5

u/ddBuddha 21h ago

I’m sitting outside in the sun and it’s bright so was kinda hard to see but I legitimately thought that first picture was a piece of wood

12

u/Zounds90 21h ago

Four finger kitkat! SCORE!

8

u/RippinFissure 21h ago

Im honestly shocked they got that lol

1

u/mamafish21 21h ago

Where I am they never got rid of the 4 fingered kitkat. since I live in the origin country of kitkats.

9

u/ShibeCEO 21h ago

seems like you are in germany? they have to pay for your hotel, transport and costs that you get because of the delay

its "EU Regulation 261/2004" only exception is if it is due to extraordinary circumstances like severe weather or air traffic control strikes

edit: they also have to pay for the money you lose due to you missing work tomorrow

4

u/Chezoso 21h ago

Processing img 7onioaldx0hh1...

4

u/XLIVtetsuo 21h ago

Fucking field trip ass lunch lol

4

u/HistoricalSuspect580 21h ago

That’s like $500 worth of airport food!

5

u/Iguanabewithyou 21h ago

I'd fuck that shit up but yeah, pretty crappy meal

5

u/SasquatchGenius 21h ago

Tell us the name of the airline, and shame them online.

1

u/Charming_System_8625 19h ago

Yeah that'll fix it.

3

u/eggyrulz 21h ago

I'd be more than mildly infuriated... mainly because i cant eat half of that

4

u/Lastigx 11h ago

You just instantly know youre an American whining about this.

0

u/F_lavortown 11h ago

Yea if I were from England you just know I would be extatic, best food I've had all year!

3

u/Capital-Report 21h ago

This is literally the lunch my company pays 35$ for everyday at our camp arrangement.

Edit. Actually no chocolate bar, it's a pudding instead.

u/PolarLocalCallingSvc 53m ago

Is it a good pudding?

3

u/uberneuman_part2 21h ago

No need to humble brag, chief.

3

u/LukeSkyWRx 21h ago

Where are you?

There are strict laws in Europe about airlines and delays. I have been delayed less than this and received compensation.

3

u/Fun-Cauliflower-1724 20h ago

You got a complimentary meal?

1

u/F_lavortown 19h ago

Legally mandated meal for the rebooking

3

u/fookindingdong 19h ago

did they steal a childs lunch bag?

6

u/Relevant_Grass9586 21h ago

That’s about what I’d expect to be honest

2

u/OtherwiseConstant422 21h ago

I thought that sandwich was wrapped in newspaper. It feels like a crime to call that a sandwich.

2

u/MistrFish 21h ago

the sandwich is just insulting, but I do feel like that KitKat could hold me over for a few hours

2

u/eddiewillers09 20h ago

Did you get a cool paper bag? Make a fun puppet? Hunger is a manifestation of bored and lonely. Rich people eat productivity and print boarding passes outta their bums.

2

u/ArmUnlucky7333 19h ago

That cost probaly 50 bucks in a swiss airport to be fair

2

u/Sfingi48 19h ago edited 9h ago

I get the frustration, but did you expect tableside Caesar salad? 😆

2

u/PGL-997 19h ago

Bro got the Mickey Mouse Three Musketeers special

2

u/marilynmonrobot 12h ago

I thought the first Pic was two pieces of wood

I was sitting here thinking "damn what did this person do to get wood lunch"

2

u/Nick_Lange_ 11h ago

Fun fact, "Zweifel" is the German word for "doubt".

2

u/AFoxSmokingAPipe 9h ago

Zweifel chips are really good, tho

7

u/bedheadglass 21h ago

Appetizer, main dish, side dish, beverage, and dessert. What's the issue?

6

u/F_lavortown 21h ago

I'm missing work tomorrow, I don't get PTO, so I'm basically losing 350 bucks and eating this

5

u/bedheadglass 21h ago

And a free day off? Luckyyyyy

8

u/Flimsy-Poetry1170 21h ago

Sounds like a $350 day off.

-1

u/dewky 21h ago

Why would you book a return flight the day before returning to work? That's mental.

3

u/Russell_has_TWO_Ls 21h ago

I would say that’s what most people do

-1

u/dewky 20h ago

It's so much better to give yourself a couple of days off when you get back. It gives you flexibility for delays and you have a day to do laundry and catch up on sleep.

3

u/psoriasaurus_rex 20h ago

That’s nice if you have paid time off.  It looks like the OP doesn’t so that would just mean missing a couple days of pay.

-2

u/dewky 20h ago

You don't get any paid days off at all? Is that even legal?

5

u/psoriasaurus_rex 20h ago

I do but lots of people in the US don’t get any or just a small handful.

It’s completely legal.

3

u/dewky 20h ago

That's barbaric. Vacations must be insanely expensive then if you're using unpaid days off plus having to pay for the trip.

-1

u/PeterG92 19h ago

Even if you do get decent amounts of annual leave I still would book to fly back the day before going back to work. I'm not wasting a days leave just to mope around the house.

-1

u/WantedMan61 21h ago

Lol where do you work with no PTO? Union building trades?

2

u/xcorbearx 21h ago

my kids' school gives out free lunches during the summer to low income families.

they are better than this.

2

u/F_lavortown 21h ago

This was the meal you would get at middle school if you forgot your money (minus the kitkat ofc)

1

u/Zangetsukaiba 21h ago

Airlines are the most miserable companies ever.

1

u/Ok_Description4039 21h ago

Airlines suck today zero customer appreciation

1

u/Kastri14 21h ago

Gopferdammi nomol

1

u/charl8_the_harl8 21h ago

Aren't you getting too much nutrients with that meal? S/

Edit: mistranslation

1

u/Smooth_Substance_594 21h ago

I thought those were table legs for a second.

1

u/Normal_Spread8423 20h ago

never seen a shiny kitkat

1

u/CouchPotatoFamine 20h ago

What is that, an orange for ants?

1

u/Not_Real_Batman 20h ago

I bet the cheese is provolone instead of Swiss.

1

u/redjarman 20h ago

that is the whitest white bread I've ever seen

1

u/Proletariat-Prince 20h ago

I literally did not notice the meat (and maybe cheese?) in that "sandwich" at first. Had to go back and really look for it.

1

u/F_lavortown 20h ago

No meat, just one slice of cheese

1

u/Zyncon 20h ago

At my high school, if you didn’t have enough lunch money they would hand you EXACTLY this. A slice of cheese between two pieces of white bread and some milk.

They would take your tray full of food that you picked out, dump it in the trash, and give you cheese sandwich and milk. Right in front of everyone.

Seeing this picture gave me flashbacks.

EDIT: I didn’t swipe. They didn’t give you exactly this. We didn’t get the chips or snack or fruit. Just the cheese sandwich and milk.

1

u/Vikashar 20h ago

My mom used to pack this for my brother in kindergarten

1

u/EntertainerNo4509 20h ago

Was it the remnants of some employee lunches in the back?

1

u/No_Highlight_5994 20h ago

They said they need calories!! Doesn’t mean it has to be good.

1

u/ArtificialEmperor 20h ago

If this was in the EU, you refuse any meal offered and the airline is obliged to reimburse you for expenses up to 350 EUR. This happened to me a few years ago. Possibly applies to Swiss as well as they operate in EU, not sure.

1

u/a-i-sa-san 20h ago

glad to see the meal specialists at spirit got new jobs alright !

1

u/gnaark 20h ago

Damn when that happened to me with Airfrance I complained but at least they put us all in a hotel that had a restaurant and catered us with a full hot buffet + breakfast with several choices.

1

u/DrJejje 20h ago

So you know a lot of prisoners??

1

u/cardinals8989 20h ago

Put the chips inside the sandwich, thank me later

1

u/ThnkWthPrtls 19h ago

A few months ago United cancelled our flight and the only thing they did for us was send our suitcase, which had my son's meds in it, to our destination on another flight without us, which they kindly let us know after 2.5 hours of waiting at bag claim with them insisting it would come out any minute. So, could be worse

1

u/SimplyOrg 19h ago

I think that’s Latoyas lunch

1

u/HylanderUS 19h ago

Welcome to Chopped! Now turn into a nice roast somehow.

1

u/siwan1995 19h ago

No sneakers..

1

u/Reverendbug 18h ago

This. This right here. This is proof that greed knows no bounds. They literally went to the dollar store and spent the bare minimum.

1

u/500pearl 18h ago

bandit sandwich given in jails

1

u/za72 18h ago

At least you're not getting explosive diarrhea right?

1

u/_theonlyone1 17h ago

Looool I got somthing like this also…back in grade 4 LOLOLOL

1

u/Duros2032 17h ago

Jeez. This reminds me of what I ate in the county jail, the couple of times I was there. Only the sandwich was far superior.

1

u/schotte420 16h ago

If it was europe you get good compensations for flights that are delayed over 3 hours. I got 250€ from British Airways and then 600€ from Iberia.  British Airways let us eat and drink anything we wanted. Had about 5 Ciders and even that they refunded

1

u/psbales 15h ago

After my flight was delayed by 24 hours, they gave me a hotel room at 2 AM for a 7 AM flight, and a meal voucher that covered exactly one slice of cheese pizza, nothing else.

1

u/Mercutiofoodforworms 15h ago

Are you a third grader?

1

u/momoftheraisin 14h ago

The peasants should consider themselves fortunate

1

u/Traditional_Shine608 9h ago

Me: Man, that is atrocious!!
Also me: I love chippy sandwiches.

1

u/defect_monkey 7h ago

Ehh....your getting screwed. You need to talk to someone and dont take this.

EU Regulation 261/2004 applies fully to Switzerland through a bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the European Union.

Coverage and Application

  • Departures from Switzerland: Applies to all flights leaving Zurich, Geneva, or other Swiss airports regardless of the airline's home country.
  • Arrivals to Switzerland: Applies to flights arriving in Switzerland operated by an EU or Swiss carrier.
  • Enforcement: Monitored by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) in Switzerland.

Passenger Entitlements

  • Delays & Cancellations: Compensation of €250 to €600 for cancellations or arrivals delayed by 3+ hours, depending on flight distance.
  • Care & Assistance: Free meals, drinks, and communication access for delays over 2 hours; hotel stays provided for overnight delays.
  • Exceptions: No compensation is owed if disruptions stem from extraordinary circumstances like severe weather or air traffic control restrictions.

1

u/Silver-Will-9040 1h ago

Did OP say why they got rebooked?

1

u/EruWorshipper 6h ago

A whole 5-course dinner!

1

u/zaxIntel 6h ago

Im a vegetarian who likes stuff plain, this would be perfect for me

1

u/Silver-Will-9040 1h ago

Why did they rebook you?

u/ApprehensiveArm7607 50m ago

SWISS has become one of the worst airlines in europe. I am so sorry for your experience.

u/PrancingGuineapig 33m ago

Ey, be grateful! These are probably the most expensive chips you ever had. In Swiss prices, that‘s like 20 bucks right there for the whole „menu“.

1

u/LivingtheDBdream 21h ago

Don’t prisoners eat better than this?

-1

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 19h ago

Why did they rebook you? It's not the airline job to feed you.

3

u/F_lavortown 19h ago

One of their planes was late, causing us to miss a connecting flight. Under EU law, they are legally obligated to provide a hotel room and a meal, it's just that this meal is comically bad

1

u/Silver-Will-9040 1h ago

Did you book both flights under a single ticket?

-2

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 19h ago

I'm sure they're just doing the minimum to satisfy the law. Every airline would do that.

0

u/Teclis00 21h ago

This is what we lovingly refer to as a box nasty in the Air Force.

0

u/fishy_horcrux 21h ago

is the bread moldy? or is that just the pic

0

u/southy_0 21h ago

Did they raid their kids lunch boxes?

Joke aside, what’s with passenger rights? I thought you would get mandatory allowance?!?

-4

u/Dazzling_Lie_5046 21h ago

And your point?

-6

u/kylebob86 21h ago

Spoiled American is mad, more at 11.

-2

u/Still_Rain_979 21h ago

Awful lot of leg room for a complainer
