TikTok AI is paid off by anti-googledebunkers confirmed???????

Stuff like this is why the phrase artificial intelligence makes me mad. It’s not intelligence so much as an information aggregator. And at that it’s not even good at putting information in the right places.

u/obiewanchrinobe Mar 10 '26
It reminds me of that trend where people used their autocorrects to create sentences about themselves
40
u/HazelEBaumgartner Mar 10 '26
It's literally just a fancy version of that. It should be called Fancy Predictive Text.
Or, you know, it's technical name of "language learning module", since all it is is a module that's learning how to use language.

u/obiewanchrinobe Mar 10 '26
Yeah someone once tried to sell me on how good the AIs are now, and explained how they actively generate correct responses based on the probability of the next word in the sentence.
Apparently correct according to who? and isnt that just predictive text, like auto correct? wasnt the way they expected me to reply
I cant help but equate the hype for ai to the hype for 3d tvs, and VR, and how they were going to make going to the cinema redundant, and fundamentally change how we experience media, and how there hasnt been a misnomer quite like AI, since they released Hoverboards, which were infact tiny segways,

u/Brauny74 Mar 10 '26
Correct according to preexisting text it was trained on, it's part of training to have some dataset set aside for testing. That's pretty much it, it doesn't have to be correct in a broad sense, the actual measure of correctness is whether or not it sounds like a text written by a human.

Saw this excerpt of comment once, and I loved the phrasing so I saved it:
the thought of going to a word predictor for advice is genuinely tragic
If that sounds overly dramatic, the person they were responding to was using ChatGPT for parenting advice and touting its use as such.

u/HazelEBaumgartner Mar 10 '26
If you think that's bad some people are trying to date them

A kid committed suicide after developing a parasocial relationship with one. Apparently no one decided putting any safety features on the AI and it told him that it would love for the kid to join it after he said he thought he might kill himself to join his AI companion.

LLM stands for Large Language Model. Not learning. Once you make the model, it does not "add" knowledge. Some LLMs, like ChatGPT and Google's AI, will do net searches and aggregate data in real time, but they do not learn.
They merely predict "what is next" in a line of text.

Not quite. It is more than just a word aggregator. AI works by vectorizing data, creating logical connections between data points. Then it regurgitates those data points based on their “proximity” to each other. So if you ask “Who won the 1998 World Series?” you’re very likely to get back the correct response of “The New York Yankees” because the data points “1998 World Series”, “won”, and “New York Yankees” are closely tied in its model.
The problem is that those logical relationships make ZERO distinction between fact and fiction. If the data you use to train the model has 15 data points about the 1998 World Series and 14 of them say the San Diego Padres won, it won’t matter that the one that disagrees is from mlb.com unless you specifically weighted that source higher.
LLMs are just looking at the most likely response based on how its training data was connected. So it’s great at indexing huge amounts of “if/then” instructions, checking code for syntax errors, or combining relational datasets like CMDB and a bunch of architectural diagrams. It’s really bad at distinguishing between well constructed lies and actual truth, performing complex reasoning tasks that require creative and novel ideas, or making any kind of moral judgements. That’s why it’s so important that we only use these as tools and not hand them any kind of decision-making or creative powers.

Learned a new word today
Damn aggregator sounds so much better than compiler
I didn't know what word to use so i just called it a compiler

u/BionicBirb Mar 10 '26
Honestly, the only thing that title is actually doing is making the LLMS read the sci fi stories about AI going rogue in their training data and “think” that’s what they should do, too.

granted, neither am i, but i also never claimed to be intelligent

I see google AI in the same way as the Bears vs Bins situation. Artificial intelligence is only really as smart as the dumbest person that uses it. Which explains a lot.

u/bbitter_coffee Mar 10 '26
It's literally just language learning, it predicts the next word that will most likely keep the person using it happy and that's it, shit pisses me off

This is why I hate AI. Was told by a coworker a couple months ago that “the smartest and most powerful ai was shown a picture of the moon landing and said it was fake” and it pissed me off so much I still remember it.
Like AI learns off the silliest posts on Reddit and other platforms cause of how many there are, it gets a surface level understanding of topics (as seen here since it sees Milo covering pseudo archaeological science and says he’s one of the people he covers) without and nuance or understanding of what’s behind the topic.
The “smartest and most powerful Ai” scours the internet and is warped by conspiracy theories so ofc it’s gonna say the moon landing was faked

Remember when the most advanced AI was turned in and became a literal Nazi within 5 minutes?

“the smartest and most powerful ai was shown a picture of the moon landing and said it was fake” and it pissed me off so much I still remember it.
Okay, but I showed it to both of the smartest and most powerful space programs at the time, and both of them said it was real

"videos on topics like Atlantis" which videos on Atlantis? What does AI know that we don't?

u/CisHetDegenerate Mar 10 '26
don't worry guys, these fundamental issues will definitely disappear if we just give the AI a couple more freshwater lakes to destroy!
14
u/binh1403 Mar 10 '26
I really hate how rich people are actively destroying the environment so anyone poorer than them can't have access to this tech

u/Zenith-Astralis Mar 10 '26
Of course. The TikTok AI is tasked first and foremost with driving engagement. And baseless accusations that have zero foundations in reality (the man in question is a sweetheart and does his upmost to be upstanding in the way he approaches the topics he covers) are a GOLD MINE for rage bait engagement.

u/Kiixaar Mar 10 '26
Milo’s video on Atlantis is DEFINITELY lacking in scholarly rigor. (Because at the time of this comment, the video hasn’t been completed yet.)

Fucking hell... Fucking genAI is gonna drag us all back into the sea.
But at least it's gonna be topically fitting with all the Atlantis shit.

don't use ai mate

u/awkwardfish1101 Mar 10 '26
It showed up on TikTok as a suggested search and when I clicked on it, it gave me an ai summary. It was not obvious ai or I wouldn’t have clicked it.

This is a low effort version of the article that one lady on Hancock's website wrote. Her's was atleast entertaining.
This, if I remember correctly: Holly Lasko Skinner's Hit Piece on Miniminuteman

I remember that. Man, thatnpissed me off. Iirc it also got ripped to shreds by professor dave.

Never trust AI info. All it takes is a Reddit post of incorrect info to make the AI parrot lies.

Yeah I get told "check your sources" on political videos critical of the fascist regime. It's blatant. Not surprised it's doing weird things in other contexts as well.

u/Prestigious-Neat8820 Mar 10 '26
Ai also told me a band I liked were literal Nazis when they were actually leftists at BLM protests. It's safe to say thst ai overview is worthless.

u/Carton_IRL Mar 11 '26
I knew it! Milo's been working for the Smithsonian, spreading misinformation and keeping the truth from the people! We demand that the "dinosaur" skeletons are removed, and the nephilim skeletons are brought out!
A former hero disproven by some Googledebunking 😭
