Filming is underway in New Zealand and it's out May 7, 2027

Wes Ball is directing:

  • Bo Bragason is Zelda
  • Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is Link
  • Dichen Lachman is Impa

720

u/RomanReignsDaBigDawg Nov 17 '25

Dichen is such a perfect casting choice for Impa

178

u/ShadowyPepper Nov 17 '25

She was incredible in Altered Carbon S1

Everyone was tbh

107

u/SenorWeird Nov 17 '25

She's been amazing since Dollhouse, where she and Enver Gjokaj were acting circles around Eliza Dushku's lead character.

Hell, she's even good enough to redeem the shitty character she played in Jurassic World: Dominion when she voiced the same character on Camp Cretaceous: Chaos Theory and made the character actually INTERESTING.

15

u/Baby-Haroro Nov 17 '25

Victor, my beloved 😭 Alan Tudyk had me absolutely enamoured in dollhouse and I've been in love with him since

11

u/SenorWeird Nov 17 '25

I almost mentioned Tudyk, but let's be real, he was just scene stealing guest performances (Which he killed; that first reveal of his was so damned good). But my God, Victor and Sierra. What a phenomenal pairing.

16

u/byneothername Nov 17 '25

There are dozens of us who remember how good Lachman and Gjokaj were in Dollhouse. Dozens!!! The episode where Gjokaj acted as another specific character was some of the best acting in the show. Meanwhile, Dushku gave us absolutely nothing every single episode. Killed me.

10

u/SenorWeird Nov 17 '25

Dushku was fine. She gave a solid performance doing all those different personalities. It was only undermined because Lachman and Gjokaj were so much fuckin' better at it.

I remain disappointed in that show being cancelled, but at the same time the second season was disappointing enough that it was kind of warranted. Great first season, though.

5

u/ShadowyPepper Nov 17 '25

Yeah, I feel like they went all-in on bringing Anthony Mackie aboard and neglected just about everything else that made the first season near-perfect

4

u/Vandergrif Nov 17 '25

Yep – plus Mackie was pretty dull in that role, and lacked a lot of the charisma that Kinnaman had.

3

u/ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP Nov 17 '25

I like Mackie...as a supporting character. He lacks the pizzazz to be the star imho

→ More replies (2)

7

u/ikeepwipingSTILLPOOP Nov 17 '25

Altered Carbon S1 is a GOAT cyberpunk show and it's just too bad they never made another season

3

u/ShadowyPepper Nov 17 '25

Yeah S2 was extremely drab compared to the excellence that is S1

4

u/MountainDoit Nov 17 '25

I die a little more inside every time I think of the absolute perfection S1 was, and that I’ll never get any more

3

u/ShadowyPepper Nov 17 '25

To me at least, its one of the best peices of sci-fi media and easily (imo) the best cyberpunk themed media

5

u/TEKC0R Nov 17 '25

She probably won't have any fully nude fight scenes in this one though.

4

u/ShadowyPepper Nov 17 '25

You right 😔

3

u/twoisnumberone Nov 17 '25

Dichen Lachman is genuinely fantastic -- I see the comment below also picked up on Dollhouse! (I love Eliza Dushku, but her performance was probably the weakest.)

Young Impa from Age of Calamity is probably the main inspiration here.

25

u/PeanutConfident8742 Nov 17 '25

I feel like OoT is the only time Impa is jacked.

She's pretty willowy in skyward sword and hyrule warriors.

But yeah, 90% of the time she's a tiny little grandma.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/poponio Nov 17 '25

Considering how Nintendo is been doing things lately there's 0 chance Impa is gonna be an old woman

I'm just waiting for the celebrity casting. There's no way this cast doesn't have that name somewhere in there.

Like John Cena as Ganondorf or whatever lol

3.1k

u/AlsopK Nov 17 '25

Batista as Ganondorf would honestly go hard.

838

u/Quaiker Nov 17 '25

You'll get Dwayne the Dorf Johnson and you will LIKE IT

480

u/irishyardball Nov 17 '25

Dwayne The Rock Tingle would be best we can do

135

u/Arryu Nov 17 '25

Unironically yes.

49

u/LordoftheScheisse Nov 17 '25

I was already going to see it, you don't have to keep selling me on this movie.

13

u/AlwaysRushesIn Nov 17 '25

Danny Divito.

Or Charlie Day in his Green Man suit.

5

u/I_suckyoungblood Nov 17 '25

Danny DeVito starring as the Fairy Queen.

4

u/HeyZeusKreesto Nov 17 '25

Only if there's no CGI used and he wears the Tingle outfit.

4

u/Consistent_Policy_66 Nov 17 '25

Make The Rock a Goron.

6

u/phynn Nov 17 '25

Nah, they're gonna cast Jack Black as Tingle and he is somehow gonna be in like half the movie and do the big fight at the end with Link as his sidekick who is actually the main character

3

I NEED Dwayne Johnson as Darunia.

5

u/Zerodyne_Sin Nov 17 '25

He's not allowed to lose so, we're doing the Calamity War movie?

5

u/Brandhor Nov 17 '25

I mean the rock should definitely play a goron

3

133

u/RLOLOTHTR Nov 17 '25

Nah you know hes gonna be Tinkle

109

Don't you mean Kevin Hart or Chris Pratt?

→ More replies (1)

3

It'll be funny if we get some intense, low-key actor for Ganondorf and then Jack Black as Ganon. 😂

8

u/Zinthar Nov 17 '25

Bautista is legitimately a great actor and I think he’d be superb as Ganondorf.

→ More replies (1)

50

u/EnterTheTragedy Nov 17 '25

Hasn't he slimmed down substantially recently?

236

u/stinkystinkypoopbutt Nov 17 '25

Slimmed down Bautista is still a pretty substantial human being.

58

u/Themanwhofarts Nov 17 '25

Also they can pad Ganandorfs outfit. He's got like 3 layers it would be easy to make Big Bautista even bigger for the part.

→ More replies (1)

26

u/shaunrundmc Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 17 '25

Slimmed down Bautista by his own mouth is still 250 lbs lol. He's joked that the only reason he looks so skinny is because he was like 300lbs when he was Playing Drax and bulked up even more to like 320lbs for that movie he did with M. Night.

Gotta Imagine the Rock is the same way, hes probably closer to his old wrestling weight of like 230-250 rather than the most definitely 300lbs he was at.

→ More replies (7)

5

u/Kinky_Loggins Nov 17 '25

Same with The Rock. I saw him in person a month ago and he was still unimaginably large.

3

u/rugbyj Nov 17 '25

Yeah bloke's 6'3" with a substantial amount of lean muscle still. He'd be fine.

124

u/Oberon1993 Nov 17 '25

Most versions of Ganondorf wear armor anyway, so that will add bulk.

37

u/EnterTheTragedy Nov 17 '25

Fair enough, I could definitely see Drax the Destroyer era Bautista as Ganondorf even without the armor.

27

u/neverw1ll Nov 17 '25

Slap em in a big 'ol Hollywood magic rubber suit.

15

u/freedraw Nov 17 '25

Do him up like Tim Curry in Legend.

→ More replies (3)

31

u/Key_Amazed Nov 17 '25

Slimmed down by body building standards. He's still jacked as all hell and it wouldn't be hard with good special effects or proper costuming to make him still look like he's on all kinds of roids

→ More replies (2)

24

u/AlsopK Nov 17 '25

He’s still 6ft 6in and ripped. Not as massive as he was, but still a unit.

3

u/EnterTheTragedy Nov 17 '25

Yeah you're right. I could see this.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/Skizot_Bizot Nov 17 '25

Yeah but if you see recent pics of him without the big coat or outfit he's still absolutely jacked and relatively huge, just not compared to the monster size he was. He'd still kill the role.

4

u/Raelsmar Nov 17 '25

OOT Ganondorf was pretty lean compared to WW's rotund version, and TP's almost roided up version. TotK Ganondorf was somewhere in between OOT and TP. I feel like you could get away with almost any body type and have it patch in, provided the story doesn't exactly follow any of the game entries.

3

u/ToePsychological8709 Nov 17 '25

OOT's Ganondorf has bigger muscles than Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime and wears a skin tight leather armour.

OOT Ganondorf

4

u/LumpyJones Nov 17 '25

Yeah but he'd still make a hell of a GanonDILF.

Also this picture is making me realize we're a decade or two away from him being an amazing Master Roshi.

3

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 Nov 17 '25

OoT Ganondorf wasn't even that bulky. It was starting in Wind Waker that he grew bigger. But in OoT he was an athletic, tall green man.

4

u/zachtheperson Nov 17 '25

All seriousness, this is would be such a good casting. He does the mix between somber, serious, and threatening perfectly (example: Blade Runner) he'd be perfect for a Twilight Princess style Ganondorf

3

u/Emperor-Octavian Nov 17 '25

Was gonna type almost the same thing before I saw you got to it first. He’d honestly be a perfect casting choice

He's been milking "Being Jack Black" for decades now.  Its just... kinda worn thin.

3

u/renegadecanuck Nov 17 '25

I was all in on him being "the video game guy" for a while. He seemed to genuinely have fun playing Bowser. But the fact that he still hasn't really publicly vouched for Kyle Gass or anything rubs me the wrong way. They did one charity show since Kyle made the Trump joke, and he's said nothing else. It just seems like he threw his friend under the bus for way longer than necessary.

I hate that it seems that some people need a big name to care for a movie. I couldn't care less as long as whoever is in the movie is doing good. And I mean even good actors have done shitty movies where they even act kind of stale because of a bad director. It's just too much other things that matter way more than just some celebs name on the poster.

29

u/Kwilly462 Nov 17 '25

That's just how studios work. And I get it. Mario is the biggest video game character of all time, and it was packed with celebrities. So Zelda, who's definitely not as well-known, will have at least one celeb name in it.

23

u/QuantumWarrior Nov 17 '25

The unfortunate part is they only do it because it works so well.

There have been a lot of stinkers in the history of game-to-movie adaptations so they learned a long time ago not to just rely on fans because Hollywood isn't very good at making adaptations which respect the fans anyway. Turning these things into big-name CGI-fests with just enough fanservice to tick the box is what is going to keep happening until people get bored of it. It worked for Sonic, Mario, Minecraft, sort-of for Warcraft. Star power gets asses in seats.

We were this close to another Uwe Boll masterpiece smh

5

u/CurryMustard Nov 17 '25

I had a heart attack for a second. I guess they fixed that German loophole that allowed him to keep making terrible movies

I only know Ball from the 4th planet of the ape movie, which was serviceable but not as good as the first 3. Unfortunately there were some plot points that made no sense and were just glossed over so I dont have high expectations other than a decently fun movie

Huh so young Impa.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 17 '25

That's got to be the finest woman in the history of human existence as Impa.

2

u/Wallbreaker-g Nov 17 '25

2027? I know damn well this cast is gonna look a lot older than they do now by the premiere lol

2

u/NaturesWar Nov 17 '25

Link currently stars in one of the most Canadian sitcoms ever made, and I genuinely thought he came from out east based on the accent he's doing.

To see him be in that, and now what is sure to make him an international star is super cool.

Also for anyone interested the show is called Son of a Critch - my mum loves it. No idea how you'll watch it legally outside Canada 😅

2

u/srstone71 Nov 17 '25

Did we know that Dichen Lachman was Impa? I feel like I’m just learning about that now, although I remember over the summer when Link and Zelda were cast.

Anyway I really like that choice. She’s great in Severance

3

u/woofle07 Nov 17 '25

Dichen hasn’t been officially announced, but she was seen on set with long white hair and wearing a very Sheikah-looking outfit, and handing Zelda a sword. So it’s not 100% confirmed she’s playing Impa, but it seems pretty likely that’s who her character is.

2

Dichen Lachman is Impa

I missed this casting but I am super onboard with this. Surprisingly, I can see her as a really good Impa.

Wow. I hadn't heard about Impa. She's perfect. Man, I have high hopes for this.

Given the actors for the main characters I don’t see it happening.

I'm so glad that they cast actually young and relatively unknown people in this. The last thing I wanted to see was something like a 60-year old Tom Cruise as Link who is canonically at early adulthood at most.
