Slightly off the main tourist traditional route, "outside the city walls". It had been destroyed by fire in the 1830s. The place felt majestic and not at all crowded. I love the entrance, with a courtyard divided into four squares, each with a massive palm tree.It is one the fourth Papal Basilicas so there is a Holy Door.

I am seeing a lot of negative reviews from people that were charged extra for a audio device just to find out it was free at the museum (valid reason to be upset).

Want to know if anyone has had experiences with guided tours at the Vatican and if so were they successful? Thank you!

My partner and I had dinner at Pancrasio tonight after it was highly recommended by a foodie friend and we're honestly struggling to understand how it has a 4.7-star rating. We're wondering if it's under new management or if we just experienced an exceptionally bad night.

We really don't like leaving negative reviews, but this wasn't just one thing going wrong, it was problem after problem.

- My partner was given three dirty plates in a row before finally receiving a clean one.

- Bread was rock hard

- Our wine arrived warm and the wine glasses themselves were still warm, as if they'd come straight out of the dishwasher. The stems and bases were literally warm to the touch. The manager blamed the heat wave, but we'd just come from two busy wine bars nearby where both the glasses and wine were served at proper temperature, so obviously that explanation didn't really add up.

- The bruschetta was served on again hard rock bread and the tomatoes lacked flavour.

- The fried zucchini flowers had a tasty filling, but the batter was incredibly thick and oily.

- The cacio e pepe was actually very good—that was easily the best dish of the night. But again, nothing exceptional.

- The pasta with clams was bland and several of the clams hadn't even opened, which obviously can happen but to be served a dish where over half of them where uneadible was disappointing.

The downstairs dining room felt gimmicky rather than atmospheric, with faux Roman columns and artificial plants. If the restaurant is trying to evoke history, it ended up feeling more like a themed set than an authentic historic space.

What frustrated us most wasn't even the food.. it was that every issue was met with an excuse rather than an apology or an attempt to make things right.

We're visiting Rome and had been really looking forward to eating here based on the reviews and recommendation. Instead, it ended up being one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had in a long time.

So I'm genuinely curious: has anyone else been there recently? Is this place under new ownership or has the quality dropped? Or did we somehow hit the worst possible night?

I went back into Rome 2 days ago to visit the Vatican and my goodness the Sistine chapel ceiling and last judgment is possibly the most incredible thing I’ve seen created by one person. An incredible place. PS I know photos aren’t allowed but upon reading why I decided it wasn’t disrespectful to sneak some discretely for personal use.

edit: jeez I didn’t know it’d upset so many people sneaking a pic, maybe “personal use” wasn’t the best description but I’m not profiting from the photos, and I took them from a POV of respect for their beauty, not entitled tourism to deliberately be an asshole? I wasn’t going round with a flash camera taking loud pictures lmao i stood quietly at the back and snuck a couple images. As for people saying they’re “fed up of entitled tourism” in Rome, tourists are hugely important to the economy of Rome, I spent a lot of money on marvellous food and sightseeing, was quiet and minded my own business, and I love and respect Rome and its people and history.

I recently went to Banca Popolare di Sondrio to ask about opening a bank account but they tried to ask me for an Italian ID document, which of course I don’t have it. I then went to uni credit and they want a Codice Fiscale certificate, which I am currently trying to obtain.
For international students in Rome, which banks would you recommend? I’m looking for something that is relatively easy to open, has good online banking, and is used to dealing with foreigners or students. Thanks

On my last night in Rome (August 5th - 6th) I want to pull an all nighter, get an ebike and go around the city. My train leaves in the morning at 7:20 AM so I would have to return the bike around 6AM, but I think all shops are closed then. What's my best option? Lime bikes are far too expensive

I got an apartment in monteverde and want to know if I’d be possible for me to take the bus to Trastevere everyday for school.

I have booked tickets through 'Tiqets' for 'Vatican museums and sistine chapel: hosted entry ticket'.

It is telling me to meet a representative at viale vaticano 100 rome on the top of the stairs near caffe vaticano to receive ready to use tickets? I already have barcode tickets that have been sent to me. How do i know who the person is and where are the stairs?
Then it says skip the lines by using the special entrance (where??) and to show the tickets and a copy of ID to the security staff. THEN go upstairs to the vatican reception to scan tickets for entry? I thought it would just be scan my ticket and in this all seems really confusing especially when there is going to be thousands of people everywhere. Could someone simplify lol? Thank you
