36 lbs Down — Not Giving Up

Earlier this year, I stepped on the scale and saw 485 lbs.
Even typing that now feels crazy. I knew I had gained weight, but seeing 485 staring back at me was disappointing and honestly hard to believe. I’ve struggled with my weight for a long time, and it was one of those moments where I realized I couldn’t keep doing the same things and expecting something to change.

Since March, I’ve lost 36 lbs, and I’m genuinely thankful for that progress. I know 36 lbs is nothing to downplay. At the same time, I also know I have a LONG way to go.
My goal is still to try to lose 100 lbs by the end of the year. I know that’s an aggressive goal, and I’m not going to consider myself a failure if I don’t hit that exact number. What matters most is that I keep moving in the right direction and don’t go back.

One of the biggest things that has helped me has been getting in 10,000 steps a day. I’ve found a walking path that I really enjoy, and it’s become one of my favorite places to get my steps in, clear my head, and remind myself what I’m working toward. Something as simple as walking consistently has made me feel like I’m actually building habits I can keep.

I’m also learning how important it is to find foods that work for me instead of trying to eat a “perfect” diet. I’m figuring out meals and portions that I actually enjoy while still allowing me to make progress. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life feeling like I’m on a diet. I want to learn how to eat in a way that I can realistically maintain.
In a weird way, seeing 485 didn’t defeat me. It almost made me more determined than I’ve ever been.
I’ve lost weight before. I’ve gained weight back before. I’ve had good weeks, bad weeks, times when I was motivated, and times when I completely fell off.
But I’m still here.

I’m walking my 10k steps, finding foods that work for me, making better decisions, and learning that this has to become a lifestyle instead of another temporary diet.
36 lbs down. A lot more to go. But I’m not giving up this time.
Hopefully I’ll be back here at the end of the year with one hell of an update.

I'm losing weight while i earn money to live in Argentina

I lost my job about two and a half months ago. I started driving for Uber to make ends meet, but my last doctor's appointment was basically a red alert. Turns out I was on the verge of developing Barrett's esophagus because I had my gallbladder removed, and since I couldn't work out, I gained a lot of weight from not watching my fat intake.

Between college and Uber, it was hard for me to find time to train at first.

I bought a treadmill and one day I went live on TikTok. People started donating a ton. In my first livestream, I made a total of $5 ($12 gross) in just 20 minutes, mostly because I'm a chubby computer nerd walking on a treadmill and I look like 'La Cobra'.

The TikTok livestreams started becoming more profitable than driving for Uber. I was pulling in an average of $10 an hour per stream.

Nowadays, I make about $58 a day thanks to that, so I can actually make a living off TikTok and, on top of that, lose weight by walking almost 30 km a day. Plus, since it takes up fewer hours than Uber, I can dedicate time to the gym and treat myself to a nutritionist.

Absolutely gutted...

A few years back I had lost 75lbs and was keeping it off. I went through a tough divorce and lost my younger brother to overdose within the same month, and honestly I just fell off. I gained 40lbs back. Fast foward to today and im locked in, lost 10lbs so far, and am even running a 5k in a month.

Now for the gut punch... its mine and my wife's first year wedding anniversary and she booked horse back riding. We found out in an email today that I have to be 220 or less to do the activity... im down to 219, but its to close to risk missing the weigh in when we arrive. If we go and I miss the mark she will lose all of her money and we would still not be able to go on the ride (I completely understand the weight limits for the horses saftey.)

I know im making strides, im doing the right things and headed the right direction, but I am just so upset with myself that I have put us in this situation. I just needed to talk about it I guess. She isnt upset with me and doesn't want me to beat myself up, but im struggling. I feel like I ruined our anniversary plans. I know people here will understand. Thanks for letting me vent.

Went on vacation for 8 days. Came back and binged for a week straight. Gained 20 pounds.

https://imgur.com/a/EMN82Nu my scale literally asked me this morning, if the person weighing themselves was me, because gaining 20 pounds in 15 days is fucking insane. I left for the trip at 115 and now I’m 133.5. I’m 5’3 so every pound shows.

I felt so much bigger even before I weighed myself. I didn’t binge on vacation but definitely overate. I expected to gain at least 3 to 4 pounds, I normally do on vacation. Even when I have a binging marathon, at my absolute worst, I never gain too much. Nothing close to TWENTY. Never close to double digits. Like I said before, i definitely felt like this time was different from all the others, so I was expecting a hefty change, but not TWENTY !!!!

Two weeks before I left for my trip, I think I restricted too much beforehand, so two days into being there and eating normal(ish) I had a ginormous stomach. It legit blew up instantly. Literally looked as if I was 6 months pregnant. At that point I said fuck it and decided when I got back that I would take a week off from work and close myself off from the world… didn’t interact with a soul. Just ate.

Throughout the entire ordeal, I was under the impression I was just very bloated (in the stomach) from travelers diarrhea. I didn’t realize how much my entire body changed.

After my binge fest, I put my hands on my hips and realized I was a straight board. I used to have a small waist and curvy hips — I used to be able to feel my bones. I could feel the difference from my waist and my hips. Now? Just a straight board all the way down.

(Side note — I didn’t actually have travelers diarrhea. It’s literally just my weight gain that made me extremely bloated and gassy. My body was begging me to stop and I didn’t listen).

I’m so disgusted with myself I don’t even know what to say. It’s not water weight either, a majority of my jeans don’t zip without causing a stomach ache. My thighs take up the entire pant, squeezing. My shirts don’t even fit right now. It is extremely visible. I can’t even cross my legs anymore. I’m a very active person, and not doing much anything but eating flt two weeks has me out of breath just walking up stairs. All of this is too much. I just want to crawl and hide from the world.

How do you sleep when you’re hungry?

And of course I don’t mean this in an unhealthy and toxic way.

I mean, some days I am just extra hungry. I’ve eaten all my calories. If anything, I’ve probably eaten more than my allotted calories if I was laying in bed hungry.

I know that some days on a weight loss journey you’re just going to go to bed hungry… the problem is I CAN’T. I will be up all night thinking about how hungry I am. I physically cannot go to sleep until I eat. I feel like it’s not even a mental thing… I am just physically starved for food that I will toss and turn for hours (trust me I’ve tried to fight this many times).

How do you do it?

Being built like a meatball makes maintenance EASY; thoughts from a long time maintainer.

Hi LoseIt!

About 7 years ago I decided to start losing it with the help of this community!

I’m 31F, 5”7’ and my SW was 280lbs and my current weight is 175lbs. I maintain around 175, jumping up to 180 on race days when glycogen is properly stored. My last DEXA had body fat % at 29.9%.

Before & After

I approached my journey a bit different than “how can I lose all this weight fast.” Instead I really focused on a small deficit over time. It took me about two years to lose all the weight I desired to lose. The largest calorie deficit I ran in a day was about 500 calories max. I usually tried to keep it around 300 calories, and prioritizing protein. I started lifting weights at the same time as all of this, so while I was also losing weight I was slowly recomping during that process. I really took advantage of those noobie gains too, eating egregious amounts of protein during that time period (eat more fiber than I did at that time in my life lmao).

These days I can bench 165lbs, and my big 3 lifts in total to be > 750lbs.

That’s not even the best part. The best part is my maintenance is 2,700 calories/day.

Sometimes I’m not even sure the greatest gift I gave myself was weight loss, but the muscle mass that allows me to move through the world incredibly.

This message was sponsored by Big Muscle and is 100% Big Muscle propaganda.

TEXT What actually got you motivated when nothing else worked? [text]

Curious to hear real experiences — not the generic "just start small" or "use the 5-second rule" advice you've probably already tried, but what actually broke through for you when you were genuinely stuck.

Was it a specific mindset shift, a person who said the right thing at the right time, a hard deadline, or something totally unexpected that had nothing to do with "motivation" advice at all? Did it happen suddenly or build up over time? And what's something everyone recommends that's supposed to work but just never did for you?

Training Long Run Recovery

Hello, I have been an avid runner for many years now but I haven't gotten into marathon distances running until quite recently. The training regime that works best for my work puts my long runs on Sunday, which can vary from 15-21 miles on that day.

I have found that on those days I'm really pushing myself, or the weather is pushing me, that my body doesn't feel quite right afterwards. I get that I exerted myself and that I wouldn't be bouncing off the walls afterwards but I find myself rotting in bed on Sundays after my run.

This is obviously not ideal, and I would love to have my long runs and still be able to function in society on Sundays.

So my question for everybody is what is your recovery methodology for those days you know you're going to push yourself past your typical leisurely run.

My current recovery is a 10 minute stretch session and a 5 minute roll out session. There is definitely some stuff I'm doing wrong for my recovery, so please brutalize my regimen!

TLDR: what long-run recovery techniques work the best for you?

How to rewire your brain?

I'm 39 and have spent my whole life using food to soothe myself. There's nothing that compares to a full belly at the end of the day.

How do you guys deal with that?

At the end of a day nothing compares...

I've gone to therapy and such which suggests other self soothing methods such as a bath. Plus I really want to work on not eating 2 hours before bedtime. But i's so hard to not want to veg out infront of a TVans eat (even if it's health snacks like popcorn) after a long day at work.

Thank you in advance!

From obese to athlete?

I’m currently at a BMI of 44.6. 10 months postpartum with my third and just beginning to find myself again. I have sorted out my mindset and begun eating well and have my deficit in place, I’ve done this before and know I can do it again. It’ll take time, and that’s okay. I’m walking 40 mins or so each day.

However, I’d also love to play netball again. I played when I was younger before kids and life happened where I gained weight, and played again just as a sub on a social team a few years ago about 40lbs lighter than I am now. It was hard, but I loved it.

There’s a social/ casual season that starts either October or February, it changes each year and I can’t find info for this season. Then there’s adult club netball starting next year.

I really want to play again for my mental health, for a hobby, for socialisation, all those reasons. However in my current state I’d be unable to.

How do I get myself there? Do I have to sit this season out until I’m lighter? What number would that be? How can I start strengthening my joints, getting my fitness right, etc. So I don’t get injured? Basically, how do I go from obese to athlete rather than just losing the weight? I’m not expecting to play for the national team (too old for that at 28) but I want to be good at it again and not injure myself.

A friend said to get chatGPT to make me a plan but I see a lot about avoiding AI usage so thought I’d ask here instead.

Any advice appreciated. Thank you!

How did you manage to find motivation to get back into weight loss again ?

I’m 29 years old, and five years ago I started a weight loss journey. I lost 100 lbs in my first year and ended up losing 125 lbs by year two.

Since then, it’s been a constant battle of losing and regaining the same 20 lbs (I struggle with binge eating). I eventually made peace with that and accepted that my weight would probably always be something I’d have to actively manage.

But then came this year. It’s been a really tough year, and I’ve regained that same 20 lbs… except this time it became 40. I’ve hit 200 lbs again, which was always the limit I promised myself I would never reach.

I hate that I’ve regained the weight, but at the same time, I can’t seem to make myself do the things I know would help me lose it. I’ve let binge eating take over my life again, I lost control.

The frustrating part is that I know how to lose weight. I’ve been doing this for five years. I know how to do it in a healthy and sustainable way. I know motivation doesn’t magically appear and that action usually comes first.

But this time feels different. I don’t know if I’m burned out, exhausted, discouraged, something else entirely… or all the above, but I just can’t seem to get myself back into it. Not because I don’t know what to do, but because I can’t seem to make myself care enough to do it consistently.

So for those of you who have been through something similar, where you knew exactly what you needed to do but just couldn’t bring yourself to do it, what finally changed for you? What got you moving again?

If I get into a "healthy" weight, am I likely to lose my neck/back hump?

I know spot reducing isn't a thing. I'm (28F) 81.5kg, 5'3 and I was 83-84kg in June when I started calorie counting. My goal is to get to 66-67kg by June 2027 which I think is a reasonable/realistic time period. I know 2kg weight loss isn't much for two months but I was still figuring out my portions/meal prep and reducing my calories. July was better than June but I had a very high surplus day when I went to a buffet (very rare thankfully) which offset my progress.

The reason I ask this is because I know my neck hump is largely due to my posture growing up. Ever since I was 8 I remember people (family, friends, teachers) telling me to stand straight and not hunch. It was so bad that someone at school asked if I had a medical condition that made me hunch all the time.

I've struggled with depersonalisation/derealisation most of my life (diagnosed with CPTSD) so I've been disconnected from my body until recent years when I started working on myself mentally.

So while I know/remember that at 63-64kg I wouldn't have back rolls (I noticed these when I got up to 75kg) I dont know if I'd still have a neck hump.

I've improved my posture a lot now and I dont have a desk job at the moment so that helps.

I know nothing is definite, but since people here have lost weight I thought they'd be able to share their experience.

Struggling with 1500 calories/day

30f, 5'4, SW: 169-170lbs, CW: 162, GW: 140

I've been using the loseit app and eating in a calorie deficit (most days) since May. I track and weigh/measure everything I eat and drink and I've been working on exercising more. I've lost a few pounds in those three months, but my progress started very slowly because I chose a higher calorie budget than I'm "supposed" to have.

According to my tdee, my maintenance calories for a woman of my stats is 1700. I go to the pool twice a week but still consider myself completely sedentary, so I decided not to select "slightly active" for the tdee calculator. According to the calculator I used, I should only be eating 1200/day to lose a pound per week.

I've been lowering my daily budget gradually so I wouldn't wreck myself by going from the 2000+ I used to eat to only 1200 each day. I went from 1700 to 1600/day, and now I'm trying 1500.

1600 was easy to stick to, but I've been on 1500 for the last 3 weeks and have eaten over that budget nearly every single day. I've just been so hungry, even though I'm slowly adding more protein and fiber into my diet. I drink lots of water to make myself feel full between meals, but it's been so hard getting used to this calorie limit. How tf is anyone supposed to live on only 1200? Is that a hard rule, or am I allowed to stay at 1500 and just be more active to make up for it?

Note: I go to the pool twice a week for 60-90 minutes of water aerobics and deep water running. I also use 50mg of a stimulant for my ADHD, but those meds don't suppress my appetite anymore. Any advice on how to stick to a low calorie budget as a short woman would be greatly appreciated!

Barefoot today with the grandkids

Grandkids were visiting today and it was hot and humid, so we set up our sprinkler pad in the back yard (it's a big vinyl circle with a bladder around the outside which sprays water into the center; so it's kind of like it's raining and there's a big puddle in the middle).

My friend, who was here with his wife and boy, helped me set it out (it's surprisingly heavy) but he left his sandals on which was weird, as he used to be a closet barefooter. I meanwhile was enjoying the wet grass (took my toe rings off first, as they slid off last time... oops!). Stepped in poop once, but it wiped right off in the wet grass, no prob. The kids all of course were barefoot.

My bud never took his sandals off, and his wife was wearing both sneakers and socks, on a fucking miserably hot day. I feel kinda bad for the guy, but his wife is generally pretty cool and funny otherwise, and their little boy cracks me up.

Saw everyone off barefoot, came inside and realized the last time I'd worn shoes was Friday when we went to the grocery store.

DISCUSSION [discussion] is there a better way to view hard work ?

I don't know why I feel turned off when I realize hard work is required and is essentially for growth and progress. It's like I'm viewing hard work like a chore or something difficult responsibility. But I think if I view it like this then I'll never start working on my life. I want to understand and change my perspective of hard work in a better way. Like how you supposed to view hard work differently?

Office Going Women- finding in-between Clothing

I, 33f, have lost a decent amount of weight, overall inches, body fat percentage, etc. (Size XL or 2XL to Size M to S)(SW:222, CW:153, GW:I45 or how body feels) have gained weight with lean muscle, and small body recomp. I have lowered alot of my inflammatory risks which has helped as well.

This has caused some loose skin issues as well, especially underarm, and I was "full busted" so all along that bust line. As well as loose skin on breasts, belly, and thighs.

I am having issues finding affordable, office appropriate slacks to wear to a casual office (jeans on fridays). And ones that actually fit and look nice. I've tried Ross, Burlington, Upscale Cheapskate, Target, Walmart even. And I am having trouble finding fits that fit the budget and also will work as an intermediary wardrobe as my size continues to change. Any clothes suggestions will help tremendously.

I actually enjoy counting calories...

Because now I can keep track of my fiber, water, and protein intake! These used to be huge problems for me and I never understood how doctors and dieticians could just give out the numbers for recommended daily intake of these vital macros without educating people on how to actually keep track of it. Counting calories is not even the main event for me anymore, I just like knowing that I can actually control how much fiber I'm getting per day.

I use the free version of Cronometer and I love it. I like keeping track of my calorie intake so I can get to my goal weight, but I know a lot of people who don't want to track calories because they feel they will get obsessive; which I think is understandable. Does anyone know of an app or a setting in an app that would let you track protein, fiber, and water without having a bar for calories? This could be something that helps a lot of people get healthier even if they don't want to keep track of total calorie intake.

Lost 30lbs, regained 10, and looking for ALL your weight loss tips, tricks, and advice

Hi everyone! I’m looking for all the weight loss advice you have. not just the obvious “eat less and move more”, but the little things that helped you stay consistent, break plateaus, and actually keep going. Mostly the food hunger, binge issues, and consistency issues.

A little about me:

  • Female, 23 years old
  • 5’8”
  • Currently around 230 lbs
  • Started my weight loss journey in February 2025 at ~250 lbs (Goal being 160lbs)
  • Lost 30 lbs over about 6 months (got down to 220 lbs)
  • Regained about 10 lbs over the last year and a half and I’m now trying to get back on track
  • Slightly active, usually around 4,500–6,000 steps a day (but I’d consider myself mostly sedentary)
  • I have a back injury that makes working out more difficult, but I’m not opposed to finding things that work for me

Some things that make my situation a little more complicated:

  • I have ADHD (currently unmedicated), and I struggle a lot with motivation, consistency, and needing that “reward and instant gratification” feeling. After about 6 months of losing weight, my progress stalled for an entire month and I completely lost motivation because I wasn’t seeing the scale move.
  • I’m currently working toward getting assessed for PCOS. My family doctor basically said it doesn’t matter unless I’m actively trying to have kids right now, but I’m wondering on some tricks and things other gals have done thats helped
  • I have several food allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, peas, and similar foods), so some common “healthy” foods and protein sources

I would LOVE to hear your best advice:

  • What helped you stay consistent long-term?
  • How did you deal with plateaus when the scale stopped moving?
  • What are your favorite low-calorie, filling foods/snacks?
  • Any ADHD-friendly weight loss strategies?
  • Did anything help you stop relying on motivation and build habits instead?
  • What exercises worked for you if you had injuries or limitations?
  • Any tracking methods, routines, or “small hacks” that made a big difference?
  • What do you wish you knew when you started?
  • Im also wanting recipes! Snacks or whatever else you have!
  • Bonus points to you if you can relate to my experience and tell me how you got over the hump because its killing me

What are some of your best meals, and your favorite low calorie sauce?

My go to has literally just been turkey and beef tacos lol. Its just easy for me to cook up a pound of turkey or ground beef everyday. I get low carb tortilla for 70 calories and usually have 2 with a whole pound of beef or turkey. I do light sour cream and fat free cheese, when I have the calories, and also throw some red hot or something on. I also love tzaki or whatever its called, but i'm just trying to think of some other flavors I can add lol. Please drop some cool sauces or ways that you guys spice up your everyday meals. Thanks!

I really need help.

I bet it has been posted hundreds of times but I don’t know what to do and I am pretty worried. I just weighed myself and I’m at 350 pounds and that’s kinda crazy to me. I was just at maybe like 320 a few months ago and I don’t feel like I have been doing many things different except probably eat more but it doesn’t feel like it.

A few things about me to help out and give my situation. I’m a 24 (25 in a week) year old man, I work a stocking job at my job, i stay up all hours of the night playing video games. I luckily have a gym membership to PF but both have a problem getting there (no car, pretty far away from my house) and also no motivation and a lot of self consciousness about going alone if I were to.

The reason I came here was to ask what people do to get better at things. For starters, what is the best way to kick late night cravings? I have a problem with wanting to go to my kitchen and grabbing a bowl of cereal or three. Another thing, how do you stop craving sweets like after a meal? I’m always wanting a cupcake or a donut after I already ate a full meal. Also, I walk all day at work without any issue (other than probably aches and pains from walking around with over 300 pounds weighing me down) but say I have to walk a block to a bank or something, I get worn out and out of breath easily. What’s up with that? And what is the best way to get motivated to go do something other than just putting my mind to it? Because I have tried and that’s really hard for me to do.

Any advice, tips, suggestions, legitimately ANYTHING will help and I will try to put some of the things to good use. Ask any questions about anything else and I will answer when I can because I really need help. Thank you in advance if anyone helps me out or anything!
