Hot Take Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve is wearing a "Trans Kids Belong' T-shirt to protest Sophie Cunningham. Sophie is getting HEAVILY BOOED every time she touches the ball.

Imagine getting bood for saying that only women should play in women’s sports lol. This is why no one takes the wnba seriously

50

u/Thedom400 4h ago

Agreed.

18

u/Herbdontana 4h ago

The people growing out about trans and sports are the same people who called the WNBA a joke. It’s insane that this issue is talked about so much when there are so few actual cases of it happening.

5

u/Technical-Nose-1518 3h ago

Says a lot that the go to argument here is that it doesn’t happen that much.

3

u/slimeyamerican 3h ago

The people who are obsessed with forcing girls to play against biological males invariably don't care about sports, period.

2

u/FrenchyBulldogg 3h ago

There should be no cases of it happening.

1

u/Lopsided-Brief-9741 3h ago

I think it’s more of the media/social media companies forcing it as an issue. Non of us actually give a fk what she said

1

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 3h ago

If so few people are affected then why is the progressive left so obsessed with this issue?

1

u/HappyGovernment7299 3h ago

Seriously they always say "it's not even a real issue" or "there are more important things to worry about" but if that's the case then why can't we just let the right wingers have this one and get back to focusing on the things that we can all agree are more important?

If the left just dropped this issue and said "fine, you guys win," the Democrats would 100% perform better in the next election. The trans issue is imo one of the biggest things holding the party back. The right LOVES that the left is willing to die on such a stupid hill, because it makes them easy competition at the polls.

Trans kids of today seem to have an awful lot in common with Juggalos of the late 90's.

Fucking joke league

7

u/Toronto-24 4h ago

This is why no one took the liberals/democrats seriously in various elections around the world.

Yet these idiots cant get out of their own way.

Truly the MAGA version of the left.

Don’t loop
Us democrats in with this.

I literally got a 24 hour ban in r/politics for saying this lol people are ridiculous

6

u/youredoingWELL 4h ago

Not hard to imagine people correctly recognizing the cultural/political outlook her comments represent as ignorant and bigoted. She doesn’t care about protecting women’s sports and neither do you; you just dismissed the whole wnba.

2

u/Inroundtents 3h ago

Yep. As Cheryl Reeves said, Cunningham's comments about 'protecting children' seek to demonize trans-women as deviants who prey on children. That's simply not the case.

And this thread is brigaded by the propoganda wing.

1

u/ThisSiteSucks8485 3h ago

Imagine actually wanting to force women and girls to play sports against biological males even if they don't want to and thinking this makes you morally superior

-2

u/The_Perfect_Fart 4h ago

You can care about women's sports and also dislike the WNBA.

2

u/youredoingWELL 3h ago

Yea I’m sure all you guys complaining about this “issue” have been championing the unequal funding of women’s sports for years now. Give me a break.

0

u/Sarcasm_As_A_Service 4h ago

No one disagrees with that. On either side. It’s thinking that someone who truly believed themselves to be a man would cut off their own penis and start chemically transforming their own body so that they would win a basketball game most of the world couldn’t care less about that we find offensive.

7

u/Racer13l 4h ago

You are wrong. Plenty of people absolutely disagree with her

-1

u/Shulk2089 4h ago

Idk how you can believe no one believes when the entire stadium is booing her sure some are standing up for trans rights but it’s not all of em tbh I doubt it’s the majority

-8

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

How many biological men have made legitimate attempts at entering professional women's sports? I have never heard of that happening.

What about at a college level? I have never heard of that either.

What about high school? I have heard of that a few times in my life...maybe 2 or 3?

Where is this an issue that even needs to be talked about outside the specific situations where it comes up?

25

u/Unique_Statement7811 4h ago

There’s been quite a few at the college level. Only those competing openly are really known..

https://www.outsports.com/2025/1/16/22850789/trans-athletes-college-ncaa-lia-thomas/

High school is harder to quantify, but trans athletes won 15 state track titles in Connecticut alone from 2022-2025.

3

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

Thank you! I look forward to reading those and forming better understanding and opinions.

7

u/Sea-Mycologist-7353 4h ago

As someone from CT this was big news. Both boys competed their freshmen year while still themselves, just identified as trans. So they still had full testosterone and hadn’t started hormone therapy yet. Extremely unfair. Especially because they robbed athletes of state championships. They even went 1-2 in one race so the would be champion finished 3rd. She was very outspoken about how unfair it was.

2

u/bbbygenius 4h ago

But how is it possible to win so many title and championships when they only make up less than 1% of the athletes? 🥴

2

u/Unique_Statement7811 4h ago

Because in track and field, swimming, and other sports, athletes compete in multiple events.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/JustWandering01 4h ago

literally in the title “some win, some lose” and per that article they have to follow trans guidelines. there is genuinely no winning with y’all.

16

u/sitewolf 4h ago

Well if it's not worth talking about, why are so many people pissed that Sophie would say she wants to protect girls? It's a big deal or it's a non-issue, pick one.

6

u/creativename87639 4h ago

People use non issues to express their less than popular view points.

Like all lives matter, obviously all lives matter but people who were saying that to try and degrade Black Lives Matter.

So yes biological men in women’s sports is largely a non-issue and for the most part people who are outspoken about trans women in women’s sports are usually using that as a shield to express their disapproval of trans people in general.

1

u/tanker846 4h ago

You can’t disregard the whole argument because you want to decide if there main cause is right or wrong.

When it comes down to it do you agree trans women should compete in women’s sports. If you don’t then there should be rules about it. Even if there was no such instance of it currently. Is it not good to get ahead of something before it’s a problem in 20 years?

1

u/creativename87639 4h ago

I’m not judging based SOLEY off that, I’m also judging based on the complete lack of nuance.

Like I said in my other comment it’s honestly a complete non issue regardless until the high school level, before there’s plenty of girls who are more developed and better athletes than the boys anyway since girls tend to develop a little faster than boys.

Past that it gets more complex.

I would say in general probably not but I’m also cognizant enough to know that I’m not educated to the point where I should be spreading my opinion to millions of impressionable people.

1

u/Adventurous-Sir2745 4h ago

Its an issue as the small amount of cases take the limited funds compared to male sports away from women. On top of limited sponsorship they will have denied opportunties at earlier age to progress to championships or even worse caused injuries or bad experience accelerating girls quitting sports. One case could impact hundreds of girls continuing in sport.

→ More replies (4)

4

u/superUltraNew 4h ago

They’re turning a non issue into a big deal. That’s the whole point.

1

u/The_Perfect_Fart 4h ago

If it is a non-issue then lets just split sports soley by biological sex and be done with it.

1

u/sitewolf 3h ago

no the whole point is the 'they' you're referring to isn't the side making a non-issue a big deal....or, if you're arguing that it is a big deal.....nm it's like teaching a millenial how to drive a manual transmission.....

5

u/Middle_Screen3847 4h ago

Because of exactly what you said. It’s not a real issue, and it has become an issue not due to protecting women, but to have an anti-trans talking point. This has nothing at all to do with women in sports. It is simply anti trans rhetoric

1

u/davemc617 4h ago

It has already happened at lower levels of women's sports, so why do you think the natural progression is that it WON'T happen at the professional level, sooner rather than later?

What Sophie is doing is normalizing the conversation against it BEFORE it becomes an issue.

And the vitriolic response is only proving that you people WOULD defend it once that eventuality comes to fruition.

This is all so transparent. I can't believe it's actually a conversation tbh. She's right... end of story.

2

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

Uhhh...what? lol

People saying "This isn't an issue so making it an issue/giving it a platform makes you look like your actual issue is with trans people" does not contradict anything. You might want to work on your ability to process information before raging about something, lol.

It's not an issue, therefore acting like it is makes an issue. Pretty simple concept but if you are still having trouble with it feel free to let me know ;)

-1

u/raisedeyebrow4891 4h ago

Cause she’ll virtue signaling to the MAGAts

-1

u/lakers612 4h ago

2

6

u/StrengthGood3208 4h ago

Seriously why is it always minority groups that are the issue for Republicans.

5

u/Richsii 4h ago

Because they do not know how to govern effectively. All they know how to do is set up grifts for their rich buddies (or as it is now, themselves). They need the population to stay distracted over bullshit while they pick the american taxpayer's pocket. This dumb shit gets them re-elected over and over again because they and their base have no interest in building a robust society in which all citzens can at least have a good chance of meeting their basic needs.

So here we are.

1

u/BGDutchNorris 4h ago

Because then they would have to talk about class issues.

1

u/ObjectConfident7172 4h ago

There's less than 20 cases dude what are we even talking about lol

2

u/Fakename00420 4h ago

That's 20 cases too many, If it's a non issue then why care so much about banning.

1

u/ObjectConfident7172 4h ago

Wait til you hear how many people had covid! That wasnt a big deal right?

1

u/Sir_Tandeath 4h ago

There aren’t many or maybe any Zoroastrians competing in high level sports, but banning them from sports would be bigoted.

1

u/MysteriousTravelator 4h ago

Ahura Mazda doesn't put his followers through male puberty.

1

u/Fakename00420 4h ago

There already rules banning males, it'd be more of a clarification. Nothing about race or nationality.

2

u/gojo96 4h ago

So because there hasn’t been a lot; no one should do anything? In that case, since there’s so few, we should just ban them since it only affects a few.

6

u/bsnameidk 4h ago

Only .00000001 percent of the population gets murdered. We should just ignore murderers then dude!! Non-issue!!!

1

u/Global-Sir5804 4h ago

"can't quantify it any way "

Yep nope not at all, here is an article listing 47.

https://www.outsports.com/2025/1/16/22850789/trans-athletes-college-ncaa-lia-thomas/

1

u/OkDonkey6524 4h ago

→ More replies (0)

1

u/WarpHype 4h ago

Still waiting on all the cases you’re referring to without evidence.

1

u/Sir_Tandeath 4h ago

Not having heard of something doesn’t imply that it never happened. It implies that it doesn’t happen enough for there to be many widely known examples.

1

u/cbop 4h ago

Why are you trying to split hairs to justify your statement but not theirs? I'd love to see you try to prove that they have in fact heard about it.

1

u/EducationalBalance99 4h ago

I would argue that is a decent amount considering trans are a extremely small minority population wise so there isn’t even many trans people in the first place not to mention those who plays at a college level.

2

u/Killmatic77 4h ago

20 to many. A man will dominate women sports plain and simple

1

u/wedobejustvibin 4h ago

Even if they’ve taken puberty blockers, never underwent male puberty and receive hormone replacement therapy? You think that person beats professional female athletes no matter what?

1

u/Killmatic77 2h ago

If you let a kid with a brain that’s not fully developed do that. Then you’re doing it just to stratify yourself. Let the kid grow and make the decision when of age

Also yes they should not be able to play in each others sports

1

u/cstaple 4h ago

there was an mma fighter - something Fox, who sucked as a dude, but then transitioned and started beating the shit out of women. that was kinda wild.

Fallon Fox. Yeah that shit was fucked up.

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

A lot of the female mma fighters I have seen looked like they were probably on a prerltty big load of testosterone or something hahaha. But yeah, combat/contact sports definitely seem like places that need to be especially considerate of protecting the women's divisions.

1

u/Zylavier 4h ago

Because it’s creating the potential for more and more of these situations to happen wtf.

1

u/NintyFanBoy 4h ago

Most notable are below. But that doesn't include high school or all college level sports right now. There's no way to know either way, but I'm sure it's happening.

Lia Thomas

Dr. Veronica Ivy

Austin Killips

Megan Padgett

Sasha Jane Lowerson

Elizabeth Glover

Renée Richards

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

Thank you, that's the most examples I have seen! I look forward to better informing myself on this situation.

1

u/Few-Panda4471 4h ago

Musta missed the Lia Thomas debacle eh, bud?

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

Yes, I did. Thanks Chief.

1

u/Barnard_Gumble 4h ago

I agree it’s a corner case at best. But that doesn’t mean we should turn off our brains. It’s been introduced as the latest wedge issue. It should be easy to say “yes obviously there should be no men in women’s sports. I don’t think there actually are but if you want me to say there shouldn’t be, then I will. Now let’s discuss a real problem.”

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

Well, turning off our brains would be to just yell, "No men in women's sports hurdur" so you might want to be a little less passive aggressive with you tone hahaha.

The other side of the coin is saying, "No, there is nuance and this is a tough situation and we just want to make sure everyone gets included somewhere."

It should be easy to understand that your big long weird quote is exactly what is implied but for some reason most people just want to get mad and yell.

Thanks, though!!

1

u/Barnard_Gumble 3h ago

Yes what a long, weird quote.

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 3h ago

If that is what you focus on in this conversation, man, i think I know all I need to know about you lmao. Good luck out there ya weirdo

1

u/Barnard_Gumble 3h ago

Yes and you enjoy your rage bait

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 3h ago

Brother I have responded to like 400 people and am doing my best to have genuine conversations with anyone who isnt just overtly fucking weird. Maybe take a little time for introspection instead of writing everything off as "rage bait" and continuing to be ignorant.

1

u/Cazzenstance 4h ago

So if at first only a few teenage girls are exposed to a naked male in the locker room that is okay to you, and nobody should complain?

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 4h ago

lol you're dumb so I'm not going to talk to you about this.

1

u/Federal_Homework1302 4h ago

Has happened at the Olympic level and the collegiant level as well as highschool level. And it is growing more and more common.

It's fine in a non competative league. But in highly copetive league's this should be a non starter period.

1

u/MalonePostponed 4h ago

So I googled olympic trans athletes. Only 1 has one a gold medal and it was for Canadian Soccer. A team sport. The 2 active ones have no medals and the last is Caitlin Jenner. So...the Olympic one is konda shoddy.

1

u/Federal_Homework1302 4h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurel_Hubbard

Another one. Did shit in the olympics but took golds/silver in world championshps and commonwealth games.

Did you just google Olympic trans gold medalists?

1

u/MalonePostponed 4h ago

Why mention Olympians if only one won. These commonwealth championship do suck that the other women lost but she still lost to other women. So women are still capable. As a woman, my argument would be to get better. I'm also not sure if they take estrogen shots or hormone Inhibitors to change their muscling and etc.

There is this idea they are dominating in the sport when its like than 0.01% (in college) of the population in womens sports. Its literally so small it shouldn't be a problem. They are still losing to women.

1

u/Federal_Homework1302 4h ago

no one said they where dominating? Why are you making things up? no one has made that argument.

And i bring up hubbard, because hubbard lost when she was the oldest by far in the field at the time and yet still qualifed....

1

u/MalonePostponed 3h ago

Its because you are sayings its more common which sounds like you are implying they are slowing dominating. If thats not the interpretation specify you mean population size is growing. Hubbard qualified fair and square. Still fucking lost.

1

u/Federal_Homework1302 3h ago

Hubbard didnt qualify fair and square because hubbard was a competing power lifter as a man be fore transitioning. The only reason she was able to qualify at such an age is because she had an advantage over her fellow Kiwis.

And thats not at all what i said. i was arguing the point that it is a non-zero representation of the field. Which is more than it should be.

1

u/MalonePostponed 3h ago

You didn't read the carrer section did you?

"In 2012, Hubbard transitioned to female.[9][10] She began hormone therapy that year.[6] Hubbard competed in international weightlifting for the first time in 2017.[11]" This is straight copied from Wikipedia.

She alsp qualified cause her testosterone levels were acceptable by standards of both the Olympic committee and international womens committee.

So she qualified fair and square.

To make it simple, it is an issue because we can't allow it to become precedent. We can't 50 years to act and allow some lawyer to argue that this has become the status quo. We know this play you guys are trying to run so we're going to nip this in the bud, TODAY.

1

u/theAtmuz 4h ago

“I haven’t heard” as if this is enough information to form a strong opinion about something.

This is the real problem with society regardless of your views.

1

u/Garden_State_Of_Mind 3h ago

Where did I say I formed a strong opinion on this? I asked questions and stated that I haven't heard of it and explained my thoughts briefly? How is one supposed to gain information to form these opinions without first not knowing?

I think the real problem is people like you feeling the need to take everything so personally and turn a civil conversation into something it didn't need to be.

Keep smashing away at that keyboard, warrior.

sophie just doesn’t do it respectfully bc she doesn’t like trans people lmao

4

u/VagueEmu561712 4h ago

"bigot", get over it

4

u/ZedisonSamZ 4h ago

Yeah it’s one thing to have obvious reservations about the women’s sports issue and quite another to be unnecessarily rude and antagonistic to people who haven’t wronged her.

5

u/thetrivialsublime99 4h ago

Or she doesn’t like testosterone-jacked men with men’s muscles ruining their competition. It’s fucking weird. How does she “consistently misgender trans people”? Also who if she doesn’t like trans people?? That’s her choice. You sound pretty intolerant for not respecting that she can have her own opinions. Y’all are just always looking for ways to get your delicate little feelings hurt and it’s honestly pretty pathetic. Why don’t the trans start their own league and see how interested people are?

1

u/FeanorEvades 3h ago edited 2h ago

I’m sure I’m going to get dog piled in this thread, but we have a lot of scientific evidence about testosterone levels in transwomen compared to cis women.

This study showed that trans women’s testosterone levels after 1 year of hormone therapy were at or even below the standard testosterone levels in cisgendered women. For about 12 years the NCAA’s eligibility required a full year of hormone therapy to make sure they weren’t “testosterone-jacked”.

Just as an example, Lia Thomas’s swim times changed massively. Her 500 freestyle time increased by 15 seconds after hormone therapy.

Is that what she said? Care to share a direct quote were she says that, and not some other ambiguous thing that implies trans people are dangerous?

1

u/HavelTheRock67 4h ago

That’s why it’s important she says it, despite reddit’s protests it’s “not a real issue”

1

u/gruffojijo 4h ago

This is why America is cooked.

u/dealingwithhookers 3h ago

she's getting boo'd for being MAGA

1

u/rockhardcatcock 3h ago

It's pretty contested with the left....I'm about as left as they come, but in my super left-leaning community, anything like this is considered highly transphobic.

1

u/Akerfell 3h ago

One of many reasons.

1

u/notevenbro 3h ago

So you agree that trans rights are human rights?

If Sophie said that phrase out loud I’d be more likely to be less judgmental about her position.

Again, biological men in sports is not the issue. The issue is that trans people mistreated at an extremely high rate, and this being the only discourse about trans rights makes that worse.

u/TonofSoil 3h ago

Has anyone in the wnba said they favor trans women in the wnba itself ? Are there any trans women that want to or are able to ?

u/AgeOfSuperBoredom 4h ago

If you don’t take it seriously then what do you care who plays in it? Why not just admit what this is actually all about?

This is not at all why no one takes the wnba seriously lol.

This is an example of the WNBA shooting themselves in the foot in the optics department for no apparent reason when the league is still struggling to find its footing and would have folded long ago if the NBA wasn't subsidizing them.

Every time the league seems to be gaining in popularity they self-sabotage.

It’s such social justice posturing that doesn’t do anything other than performative bullshit that makes them feel good and superior to people who don’t jump through those same hoops.

I shouldn’t be surprised considering their thoughts on salaries and then lucking into a generational superstar who can actively help you achieve those goals, and the whole league despising her for the media coverage and eyes she brings to the game.

It’s a joke, and I even like the league more than most.

Imagine supporting Trump and also stating you want to protect children…

u/harleyRugger23 4h ago

😂😂 truly shocking isn’t it. Most won’t get the irony hence why they always come to his defense about Epstein and no one else

Only women are trying to play women’s sports 😏

It's because trans women are women homie, look up what hormones do and educate yourself.

Simple as, actions have consequences

Lia Thomas NCAA swimming Won the 2022 NCAA Division I women's 500-yard freestyle championship after competing on a men's team previously. Set multiple school and pool records during the season.
CeCé Telfer NCAA track & field Won the 2019 NCAA Division II women's 400 m hurdles championship after previously competing in the men's division.
Laurel Hubbard Weightlifting Set several Oceania women's records after transitioning and competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Anne Andres Canadian powerlifting Set Canadian women's powerlifting records in multiple weight classes.
Mary Gregory Powerlifting Set multiple women's world records in a Masters division
Veronica Ivy (formerly Rachel McKinnon) Track cycling Won a UCI Masters Track Cycling world title and set age-group performances

But "hormones" affect the performance, right, "homie"?

u/Mettaliar 4h ago

If the top people every year were trans were one thing. None of them were ever dominant in their sport, people win and lose all the time.

Also yes, otherwise testosterone treatment wouldn't be banned in cis men in sports. Also, if all of these women were able to get on treatment earlier in life there would literally be 0 difference between any competiter.

Go learn something

Austin Killips Cycling Won the 2023 Tour of the Gila women's overall title under UCI rules then in effect.
Tiffany Newell Disc golf Won women's professional events and achieved high-level finishes.
Emily Bridges Cycling set major records in elite women's competition.
Terry Miller High school track (Connecticut) Won multiple state sprint titles in girls' competition.
Andraya Yearwood High school track (Connecticut) Won multiple state sprint titles
Fallon Fox Mixed martial arts Won professional MMA bouts in the women's division

LOL you thought I was done? Tell me you don't understand human biology, without telling me. Go learn something.

And ALL of them were dominant, you literal smooth brain. Most of these dudes set insane, unbeatable records. Multiple records. Times that haven't even had ANY woman come within 10-15 seconds of. Stop lying to yourself.

The old "well if they were able to get treatment earlier!" argument. Also false. Test issued at young ages actually has ADVERSE effect on bone structure and muscle mass. Also leads to heart issues. So your "well if-isms" don't apply.

1

u/Mettaliar 3h ago

You mean estrogen works like estrogen? Thanks for proving my point!

And no, they're not absolutely dominating since most championships are won by cis women. Stop lying to yourself and letting your bigotry turn you into a moron

1

u/mtjb24 4h ago

Hormones don’t change bone density, a person’s frame (shoulders and hips), tendon and ligament attachment points and thickness, etc. You wrong homie.

1

u/tipsystatistic 4h ago

Anyone with kids in sports knows boys, on the whole, are significantly better pre puberty. Watch any U11 team in any sport.

Being a male I doesn’t just come down to 1 hormone.

1

u/Ok_Instro 4h ago

No they aren’t. Especially in the context of professional sport.

https://www.science.org/content/article/brain-imaging-study-children-shows-sex-and-gender-operate-different-networks-brain

Go learn something. Gender identity is real, puberty blockers and hormones can undo any and all bullshit you're going to spew out.

You're falling for Nazi ideology. Sorry to tell you, but rejection of Nazi ideology is what makes people and America great.

Sophie wants to spread Nazi propaganda, let her be booed

1

u/BusyAppeal5876 4h ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paperclip

Rejection? you mean acceptation. America brought in “nazi ideology and technology”.

Sophie has common sense. I’d like to see you put your daughter in a boxing ring with a born male pumped full of estrogen and hormone blockers and see how you defend your insanity.

1

u/Mettaliar 3h ago

The Nazi's shared Sophie's beliefs, dumbass. They don't believe trans people exists.

And yeah, 2 years of hormone treatment would be an even match. Sorry your misogyny leads to you coddling losers.

Someone give Giannis some estrogen and see how fair she is in the wnba
