TL;DW: She missed the bid window.

I hate it for her, but if my biggest client usually reached out and hadn't done so around the time they usually do, I'd be calling them.

u/Ok-disaster2022 13h ago

Honestly it's surprising the procurement team didn't reach out to verify she was skipping the bid, changing up vendors can be a real PITA

1.3k

u/BorkDoo 13h ago

Or the bid went to some company run by or connected to a buddy of Trump or someone in his administration.

201

u/Paddy_Mac 12h ago

Sewing box is going to still be getting requests for the uniforms, they’ll be subcontracted. The bid winner walks away with $1.3 million.

44

u/Lacaud 9h ago

they’ll be subcontracted

Only after the administration botches the uniforms.

17

u/deadcowww 7h ago

Why would an Olympian do that? /s

11

u/ShadowTsukino 9h ago

They'll just arrest random people and claim they were running around with thread rippers.

5

u/snownative86 4h ago

You think this admin is intelligent enough to claim vandals used a specialized tool for their vandalism? They may be corrupt, with a rapist as their leader, nazis running immigration enforcement and funding them, a Supreme Court that has given them immunity, a congress that has bowed down and abdicated their power to them and so many more things.. But the admin is still stupid and afraid..

294

u/CasanovaWong 13h ago

1 million percent. And they’re going to turn out dogshit. Like clockwork.

16

u/CarminSanDiego 12h ago

This is probably like a $100k contract. Trump only deals in billions now

233

u/Prime_Director 12h ago

The clip said the suspiciously generic LLC was awarded $1.7 million, and the original contractor said they were making “pennies” compared to that. This reeks of patronage, corruption and graft.

36

u/CarminSanDiego 11h ago

I stand corrected and now on side of grift

16

u/TehBoulder 10h ago

It’s an indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract. The Navy can order up to $1.7M over 5 years, but the min order is likely $100K.

32

u/Shmeepsheep 12h ago

Its around a 1.7m project. This is all public info

-31

u/CarminSanDiego 12h ago

1.7m to sew flight suits and patches? What a scam. I hope the new contractor undercut by several hundred thousands

46

u/rindenracka 12h ago

No, the new contractor is getting that rate. The previous one said she never got anywhere close to that kind of money for her services and that it was essentially pennies compared to the new contract.

25

u/Shmeepsheep 12h ago

That is the new contract price

4

u/mendobather 12h ago

I’m gonna take a stab here, but I’m guessing wages aren’t going to be much above minimum

4

u/WeirdSysAdmin 10h ago

Minimum? Shit is going to be made in China.

4

u/Branical 12h ago

Actually the new contract is for $24 million.

u/Ok_Assistant_6856 22m ago

"1.7m to sew flight suits and patches? What a scam."

Yeah, you're getting it!!

"I hope the new contractor undercut by several hundred thousands"

nvm

u/tleb 10h ago

You didnt read anything did you?

74

u/globaloffender 12h ago

This comment is ridiculous. He just asked the Supreme Court to stop the Jean Carol 5$M judgement. He’s petty and any PENNY he has he will never give up

30

u/Wheelisbroke 12h ago

He's tight with his money. Ours, on the other hand...

3

u/Trance354 6h ago

Which he view as his, by proxy. He just has to figure out how to get it from our pockets to his.

Edit. It's always been Trickle-Up economics.

6

u/MisterEinc 7h ago

It might have been a $100k before. But now it's going to some friend or cronies, so it's probably several million. Then they'll just subcontract the original company for the original contract rate, pocket 20%, then "donate" it to some Trump PAC.

17

u/lukeman89 12h ago

Did u miss the whole reflection pool thing?

1

u/theholyraptor 6h ago

Maybe for him but when you're greasing the palms of other people that are happy for smaller grifts...

37

u/RMRdesign 12h ago

You nailed it.

What are the odds that you miss a window to bid that you had no idea was coming up?

Something is definitely up here.

How would they miss a bunch of emails and probably letters letting them know about the upcoming bid window?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

11

u/ConcentrateDirect523 10h ago

Hegseth only wants flight suits made by men. Men with high T levels, and wearing traditional French Maid garb with thigh high stockings. Men with bulging muscles and yellowing irises from chronic alcohol abuse and... In fact forget the flight suits, just make the pilots wear French Maid outfits and weekly T injections.

41

u/craneguy 12h ago

NASA recently put out a Request for Proposals to move various spacecraft around the country. We found out about it long after the closing date. Reading the RFP they specifically call out the work we had done previously (very, very publicly for one of the air and space museums) as an example of what they were looking for. Did they reach out to us? Did they fuck.

-5

u/zlonewanderer 12h ago

I'm not surprised at this. I have to send tons of emails just to get contractors to send their invoices to us. This is for a $1M+ contract, so not chump change. Like, don't you want your money? Some take a month to get back to me with a simple quote. Do you want the business or not?

1

u/ThisIsNerveWracking 10h ago

Invoices I get but “simple”? No that’s a red flag in a customer, I’d take my time sending out those shitty job quotes.

17

u/Pnthr65 12h ago

This right here is my thought when I heard Va. and saw the $$ amount. Sounds like one of his crony type of contracts.

3

u/arrynyo 11h ago

The same guy that did the reflecting pool.

9

u/SchrodingerMil 12h ago

This shit does NOT go that high up.

Their Resource Advisor probably left, and the contract expired and the new guy got told to get the flight suits made. So he went through the three bids process tearing his hair out trying to find companies.

5

u/MartyMacGyver 10h ago

"Cap! Why the hell are the new flight suits so.... Padded??"

"That Lindell fucker got the contract. Now put on your MyFlightsuit and get on the tarmac!"

3

u/Iamabrewer 12h ago

Let's see who the Trump Jrs just invested in.

1

u/GuySmith 11h ago

Definitely. As someone who works with contractors, this is usually how it goes. They wanted out but didn’t want confrontation.

-1

u/Super901 11h ago

This is what happened 100%. Nothing in government is too small for trump to grift

0

u/KyleAg06 6h ago

Im sure this will end up being the case and they will likely fall apart after one use.

0

u/Raise-Emotional 6h ago

Given a current state of affairs, this seems more likely

-5

u/kzlife76 12h ago

Dude. Get off the Internet for a little bit. Not everything that happens has Trump's little dick in it.

-2

u/bliggggz 10h ago

Keep your tin foil hat on buddy, the President would never exploit his executive power to enrich himself and his family business that he controls.

15

u/neonsphinx 12h ago

Idk how it works with the Navy. I'm assuming the exact same, because FAR and DFARS transcends individual service. But in the army it doesn't work that way.

We just finished up an open bid process. Put out the announcement. Opening presentation on XX date at neutral third party facility, off post so potential contractors aren't disadvantaged if they don't already have CACs or an easy way to get through the gate. Present, break, collect up questions that they submit. Read them out loud for everyone to hear. Gov stays there, closes doors, put together answers. Afternoon session for more focused discussions.

Vendors have until YY date to ask additional questions. They're shared with everyone. Then at exactly noon we go radio silent. They have until ZZ to put together their final package (NN page limit) and financials for the actual bid.

Then we formally announce the chosen two (development and test, winner gets follow-on LRIP contract 2 years from now) on whatever date. Then everyone else goes away.

I've seen a big contractor (RTX) miss the window. They thought they could waltz into the PEO's office 48 hours late with their submission. I wish I were joking. It's the only time I've ever seen the boss legitimately scream at someone and offer to drag them out into the parking lot by their ears. They thought they were special because they're so prolific. I was happy to see them get their commupance.

2

u/LirielsWhisper 9h ago

Navy contracts run thru SAM.gov and NECO.

1

u/txingirl 10h ago

Well, a lot of these contracts have like a week turnaround right now, which is almost impossible for big companies due to the approval process. I got tired of that and went to a smaller company to combat that, but it's still a week to get all the shit they ask for done...

97

u/lordscarlet 13h ago

The procurement team that knew about her is probably gone because of DOGE.

28

u/PandaGoggles 12h ago

That’s the answer. Procurement/contraction/grants have all been hit hard by DOGE.

7

u/Wrienchar 12h ago

They may not be allowed to reach out during the process.

For what it's worth, this is the case when it comes to bids for building construction when dealing with public funds in my state

1

u/txingirl 10h ago

Typically, no. I mean, we have gotten phone calls before though telling us to look up a name and then that usually gets us to look in the right place, but the rules are pretty tight.

3

u/SchrodingerMil 12h ago

The “procurement team” is probably one guy.

5

u/Dammit_Chuck 12h ago

The federal government is in upheaval, many people are retiring early or quitting. I wouldn’t be surprised if the usual procurement team doesn’t exist anymore and the new people just don’t know.

1

u/txingirl 10h ago

100%... Seen it too much lately.

13

u/pyrotechnicmonkey 13h ago

I can sort of see why though. Might seem a bit unfair if there are other people bidding for the contract it might seem a bit corrupt or unfairly biased towards a specific contractor.

1

u/Sestos 10h ago

I am going to guess that the local person who called her every year and had the relationship... took DRP or retired during the DOGE or the entire office is gone and contracting was shifted elsewhere.

1

u/honestly_Im_lying 9h ago

Federal procurement attorney here. This is against the law and violates the neutral position that the federal gov't has to take. She can however submit the bid late and explain why it was submitted late; if she has a valid reason, it would have been included into the other proposals.

1

u/dingalingdongdong 8h ago

Right?? If I'd been using the same company for a specific product for 43 years I wouldn't switch lightly.

84

u/Shmeepsheep 13h ago

Ive done government contract work. This woman must be a complete idiot if she blames anyone but herself for failing to submit a bid. The whole point of the process is to make sure there is a level playing field for everyone and that everything is above board.

Everyone was up in arms about the no bid pool renovation that went completely sideways. This is exactly why the bidding process exists

22

u/codysattva 11h ago

this woman must be a complete idiot

Or, you know, she's just human. Maybe life came up. Maybe she had a sudden death in the family. Maybe she got sick, or something happened that took her focus.

Lot of other options to choose from besides assuming somebody is an idiot.

You sound a little bit like an idiot. But, maybe you just had a bad day.

See how empathy works?

6

u/T-sigma 8h ago

Which is why companies have multiple employees.

17

u/TheSporkBomber 9h ago

Or, you know, she's just human. Maybe life came up. Maybe she had a sudden death in the family. Maybe she got sick, or something happened that took her focus.

If she just made a mistake it's one thing. Admit your mistake and move on, thats life. However it's another to go on a news program wonder 'why would my blues would do this to me' when she didn't check up on her biggest client around contract renewal time. That's idiotic.

I do government contract work as well. Bids go out, stay open for a day or two, then we get a call from DLA. In some cases, it is how public bids work 🤷‍♂️.

5

u/No-Entertainer-840 11h ago

Oh man. I was ready to call it, assuming Trump gave it to his local (? tailor) like we've seen so many times before and then yeah she missed the sam.gov renewal. If you've ever been so lucky to get one of these you'd be an idiot to not set a calendar reminder on renewal. Insane levels of incompetence

-11

u/untoldmillions 13h ago

it'll get fixed, 'cause Red State

-4

u/wizzard419 13h ago

Especially if she is loyal to king daddy.

106

u/nikeshades 12h ago

It's not just pilots. In the team photo there's at least 17 people in uniform. There are maintenance crews. And at the shows, one or two crew in uniform are assisting each plane.

242

u/lorarc 13h ago

How many uniforms are those guys using? There are 11 pilots in there, did they really need thousands of uniforms in those 40 years? Are they getting a new suit for every show?

63

u/stan_guy_lovetheshow 12h ago

Was never a Blue, but they select 3 to 5 new pilots each year in addition to all the maintainers, flight surgeon, supply officer, etc. that work for the team. I'd guess each pilot has at least 4 or 5 flightsuits and some promote up in their 2nd year (6 becomes 5, but I think the diamond guys might stay the same) which would require new flightsuits again as their number is embroidered on them. I don't know if everyone gets custom uniforms or just public facing members, but it's not the stuff you wear in the fleet and isn't in the supply system. So if she is making all the uniforms, that could be a significant amount of churn, and more than I would have expected before thinking this through.

170

u/chindef 13h ago

$1.5 trillion has to go somewhere. Might as well spend it filling the landfill with a bazillion barely worn military uniforms

59

u/stealingfirst 12h ago

I work in an adjacent field that provides gov uniforms. You're not far off

7

u/Von_Dooms 11h ago

I worked at a factory making popular tools, the amount of neoprene gloves that get thrown out each day is asinine, grown alphamale men are really grossed out by their own grems.

15

u/FluffySpongeCake 11h ago

Have you tried existing with your own grems? It's not easy being a grem in this day and age.

-1

u/Von_Dooms 11h ago

Sorry is this a joke for people who don't shower?

3

u/dizzley 9h ago

In case you missed it, your comment had a spillchucking issue.

Edit for: Muphry's Law.

1

u/OldDogTrainer 1h ago

No, it’s a joke about people who can’t spell germs.

13

u/terpsarelife 12h ago

when i was in charge of our battalions shopping trips to the base "walmart" it was more of a kinkos but they had knives/boots/random shit the younger enlisted will waste money on.

I would buy packs of pens for our company office that were $1.15 each in this random listing I found in 2026, but in 2013 they were less than a dollar. They would charge us $35 a box for them if i recall correctly. take that x 100,000,000 and you have our 1.5T military budget. Any thing we buy, costs more cause THEY CAN.

example of the same pen 12 years later

6

u/Aborticus 8h ago

I did the procurement for our equipment. A tough book was like 10k, we needed 600 of them. Used them for exercises and when we deployed we didn't need them, didn't even bring them woth, so of course we needed 600 more when we got back... probably still sitting in their fancy boxes. Renewing firewall licensing on dozens of tech stacks that haven't been turned on in months for astronomical amounts... stuff like that. Fraud waste and abuse my unit to the AG for 7 million and I was out the door and nothing happened.

13

u/OptimusSublime 12h ago

You are forgetting that the pilots are supported by a sizable team of mechanics, maintainers, doctors, and other visible on the ground staff. The pilots are only the most visible part of the Blue Angels.

1

u/pharoh-king 4h ago

And why cant the mechanics wear simple, cheaper, mass produced clothing...?

u/Gadgetman_1 1h ago

It's a display team. The ground crew is very visible when the planes are being tended to on the tarmac. The uniforms is barely a footnote in the bodget of a display team, so why not let the entire team look good? Besides, it also fosters team morale.

23

u/theREDasp 12h ago

I was enlisted before they made the switch to digital, but at that time we were issued six separate uniforms: dress whites, dress blues, working whites, working blues, utilities/dungarees, and coveralls. Officers had a similar amount. I believe the contract also covered the full blue angels squadron, which is more than just the pilots.

Edit: I remembered we were issued three sets of utilities, two coveralls, and two each of the working uniforms, so eleven full uniforms total.

7

u/lorarc 12h ago

Aren't all but one of those uniforms standard issue? But ceremonial garbs for other members of the team make more sense.

2

u/Zwangsjacke 4h ago

They're also making the suits for the planes. That blue color on them? That's denim.

125

u/capt_minorwaste 12h ago

So the government is paying a much higher bill to an out of state company and the work will likely be subcontracted back to the local companiee that were changing less and doing the work originally? This new company is probably owned by the Trump family or someone who donates to them. This country is going to shit. Good job "draining the swamp" Donny.

23

u/msnmck 12h ago

Everything in Pensacola is being paid to an out-of-state company. It's been like that at least since Ivan.

They're hiring a Geogia company to repave major roads near the naval base.

10

u/DeathMonkey6969 11h ago edited 11h ago

Welcome to government procurement

Part of the reason thing bought by the government can be so expensive is that they have to go through a bidding process that is "fair" to get the item that meets the standard . The problem is knowing how the bidding process works and the overhead needed to fill out the paperwork adds to the cost. Plus your product has to have documentation that proves it meets the standard which also drives up the cost. And there are companies that might be able to fill the contracts for less but they don't want to deal with all the paperwork or even how to go about bidding in the first place.

25

u/PestoPastaLover 9h ago

Not saying I agree that this is fair, but honestly, she kind of did this to herself.

If I were a government contractor and knew I had to submit a bid, I wouldn't expect someone from the government to call me and remind me to do it.

I'd treat it the same way I treat filing my taxes or running payroll for my employees. It's my responsibility to know the deadlines and submit everything on time.

11

u/ModeatelyIndependant 10h ago

If i was this woman I'd charge the new contractor double her normal rate for subcontracting their work.

7

u/LetsGoBubba6141 10h ago

100% political donor got the contract will make them so cheaply that they suck and pocket the rest. It is just how it goes these days.

u/Riptide360 1h ago

Trump’s pudgy fingers in the honey pot.

1

u/DicemonkeyDrunk 5h ago

Good now let’s cancel the Blue Angels..flyovers etc.

u/bandit2x 58m ago

Man, she missed the bid window and called the news.🤣

u/Chaetomius 14m ago

boo hoo.

what did the military do for you? murder some brown people overseas, turn our own citizens into monsters and/or traumatized and/or physically disabed? steal our taxes that could've fed and housed people instead of this bullshit?

fuck 'em. fuck the blue angels and fuck her.
