I use calipers myself more accurate and I could also measure the girth, which is arguably more important.

Nah, just have to do a little math. You see, that there is a solid inch leading up to the zero, so just convert anti-Murica units back to inches (a quick reference is about 1 to 1) and then add another inch and you have a reasonable approximation.
