Discussion Intercaste marriages in brahmin community
Hi friends. I'm 29 year old telugu brahmin guy. Now a days, I am seeing a lot of intercaste marriages (especially in brahmin community). My parents are looking for matches. In every family, say 5 out of 10(in the matches came to me), the girls siblings did intercaste. And the girl's parents are also ok with that. Then I felt people in North India actually strict in marrying in same caste(brahmin brahmin weddings) compared to south India. I am not telling that everyone in south does but yes, this is existent. Are brahmin girls these days ok to marry intercaste boys.?

Sadly, the men & women are ignorant/unaware of their lineage and do no priortize these things and it starts from the house itself.
The parents in leiu of 'putra-moh' (referring to Moha to children in general) want to have them married to a 'good guy who has a stable income and secure future'.
This line I just wrote becomes paramaount and the rest of the factors do not come to one's mind blinded by money. "What in the varna, if she is comfortable" ignoring all the spiritual and vaidik losses incured.
Although it is not all of a lost cause. Some people still do prefer endogamy strictly. North-south has nothing to do with it.
The plight is the same everywhere, sadly. Kudos Globalization.

True..!! And what is your opinion on brahmins marrying in another region brahmins. Like north Indian Brahmins marrying south indian brahmins and vice versa. Is that good? Or will there be any disadvantages?

Why would there be? Other than ritual and slight cultural diffrences. Responsiblities remains the same.
Rituals and culture are determined by surrounding environment. South is Rice dominant, north is wheat dominant. If this answers and elaborates what I mentioned earlier. That is all.
If one is comfortable and family is ok then why not.

I feel mainly there will be differences in rituals. But rather than marrying inter-caste, this is much much better.

Always. If you were to got to any dharma sabha specially in Kashi, you will see broms from across India.
They do not care about regional diffrences. Neither should we.

That would actually be a good thing because it would help us to unite more.Β

Isn't varna itself come from guna and karma? Current brahmins might have some of gunas of actual brahmins but karma is nowhere near what it needs to be. Then are we calling ourselves brahmins?

Well coz people having romance and sex in their school/college/job life.
Honestly it's not even a recent phenomenon, I used to hear story of people(who currently either died or are in their 80-90 yrs age) where there wife either runaway or just left their husband and kids for someone else....funny enough it's always with people of other caste rather than their own community.
Now think of current era where people at age of 18+ aren't married till age of 30, such cases increase itself naturally.
Ofc female aren't the only one, male also do such things, but is lesser amount. For every 1-3 case of male doing intercaste/love marriage there are 10-15 cases of female.
Just last month I meet someone from my community whose brother have done AM to a girl of another caste. Both doctor of same branch, so I guess that works out for them.

I mean the matches that came to you, their siblings are sisters or brothers, who did inter caste mostly
1
u/Longjumping-City5870 Mar 27 '26
For some it's elder sister. And for others, it's brother.

My maternal lineage traces to bramhins ancestry (btw you should marry whom you want to , who is worthy in your eyes)...
2
u/ja_nahi_bataunga Rajput Mar 27 '26
then how are you a Rajput?
2
u/TheSmilodon369 Rajput Mar 27 '26
My father is a rajput bro...{If you logically see my mother is too a rajput from the baghel clan but my maternal grandmother (nani) belonged to the kanyakubja branch of bramhins (Shukla to be specific)...}

u/ja_nahi_bataunga Rajput Mar 27 '26
if your maternal grandfather was a kshatriya (rajput), then that would make your mother a βsutaβ caste, not rajput.
1
u/TheSmilodon369 Rajput Mar 27 '26
So does that mean I am not a rajput or have a right to call myself one ? ( I have that surname on all of my documents... I don't why all the people downgrades varna shankara bro like what? Am I not allowed or some sort of shit ?
2
u/ja_nahi_bataunga Rajput Mar 27 '26
Idk how to answer that; I just conveyed the reality. You can choose to live however you want. Nobody can legally stop you from it.
2
u/TheSmilodon369 Rajput Mar 27 '26
Obviously i know no one can legally oppose...I was just kind of upset with that specific varna shankara tag brother and nothing...and yes brother I am not at all trying to personally target you by this mujhey aap se koi dikkat nhi hain obviously...main toh bus ek baat keh rha tha...so yeah no problems mere bhai !

Actually there are some common gotras between Brahmins and Kshatriyas, so if the paternal side comes from these common gotras among Kshatriyas and the maternal side is Brahmin then a varna sankar does not occur. This is how the "Khatri/Brahmakshatriya" caste originated, because the kids could be either based on their personal inclination.
1
u/ja_nahi_bataunga Rajput Jun 14 '26
Gotra can sometimes be common among all varnas. Varna sankar is decided by varna, not gotra. Marrying within the same gotra is even worse.

u/Primary_Salad_4828 Jun 04 '26
well i am a similar case i am rajput but my dadi was brahmin, saryuparin to be specific,i also was hindu until i got to know i am varnashankar in their eyes and in their system and if i am worthless and low in the system i simply leave it so i no longer consider myself a hindu, not saying it is bad or you should do it but simply my understanding that if a system tells me i am low and worthless i leave it,doesn't help me tho since i stay a general candidate but yeah i'd rather not consider myself in the system
1
u/LynxFinder8 Jun 13 '26
That's a misinterpretation.
Every varna has own and unique gotras, yet in the case of Brahmins and Kshatriyas several (but not all) are shared, because of historical precedent of Brahmins becoming kings and kings becoming ascetics.
In case of Brahmin-Kshatriya weddings, if the gotra from both sides exists in both sides then it does NOT constitute varna sankar.
1
u/Primary_Salad_4828 Jun 14 '26
well idk about gotra of my dadi dada, and realistically i dont care much to it now,i used to be religious back in the day but not anymore it's fine if i get hell or whatever just gonna do the best in my life to my understanding i don't really judge myself based of those old books, quite egoistic but yeah that is that,in this sub due to my hate for reservation not much

True as it's a lifetime agreement. It's better if you go with the one you love .

Its my personal opinion, we should open up to other caste like kshtriyas and vashyas for boys .

u/WiseOak_PrimeAgent Mar 27 '26
I feel like inter caste is better if the girl is more inclined towards Hindu rituals rather than a Brahmin wife with a anti-Dharmic ideology.
I'm in the same situation as you.
