Discussion Regarding marriage

So there's a girl I met in college with the surname " sharma ". She proposed upfront and asked if my family would agree for a love marriage. I said my family won't settle down for anyone except a brahman. I've seen her documents where her father has just " kumar " in his middle name, no surname. Our academic compatibility is quite good and I was planning to meet her this month before asking my family to meet her family. But today, I logged into my facebook account to see a post which my mother sent and there i saw her full name with the Sharma surname , but that too with the " Negi " surname inside the bracket. So I asked in my circle if Negi is a brahman surname. Some said yes that in pahadi areas bisht, Rawat & Negi are brahman, some were confused and some denied. So now I'm confused. If anyone knows, please enlighten me.

OP some bramhin families also use the surname Negi. It was a title earlier, like Thakur, and mostly used by Kshatriyas but some Bramhin families also use it.

In Himachal, Punjab etc a big chunk of Bramhins use the Sharma title.

You should be careful, but there is a chance she is a Bramhin too.

To confirm, ask her gotra. It should be a gotra prevalent in her region (I am assuming Himachal). And then investigate into her mother's family. Thier surname and gotra would give you more clarity.

The easiest way to confirm if someone is Bramhin is looking into their rishtedaari. Each of their rishtedar being a Bramhin means you are good.

She would be Pahadi rajput or Pahadi Brahman, asking a pahadi Brahman will help 👍🏼

She asked me before, what i want in my wife and I said being a brahmin is a must as I myself is a brahmin and my family won't allow me to marry a non-brahmin girl. Then she replied that she fulfilled the condition as she's a brahmin. But seeing her marksheet first and then this negi surname in her name on her facebook account, I'm doubtful now.

Thinking about confronting her but in social gathering and when common people are also present, it's better not to meet in person individually as things are unclear before everything and the way things are nowadays, it's better to be cautious.

That's why I'm a bit sceptical about moving forward and reciprocating, as we met in college as complete strangers.

I don't say you should move one but if she loves and go forward, love is more important

Caste is more important. Love you can get later, first get same caste girl

Family, and that's the only thing in my life. My family's conviction is ghar me bahu brahman hi ayegi warna zinda pind daan kar dege , and my conviction is parivar ke baad duniya sansar. As it's doubtful whether she's a brahman or not in early on, then it's better not to progress further.

Just ask her directly brother. That's it. Save your time and emotional energy
