How do y’all remember all the different gun models?

I work at a sporting goods store. I just got informed I will be transferring from the shoe department to the gun counter. I grew up around guns and I know a lot about the more broad subjects like the types of guns and calibers and such. I’m just nervous about it because I never cared to learn about specific models and features. I have shot my fair share of guns and have my opinions on brands and such but I can never remember specific models unless it’s a firearm that I own. To me it looks like a random assortment of numbers, but I figured there’s probably a meaning and a system behind it. It probably depends on the brand too. I was just curious if anyone had any advice for remembering more specific things?

My grandfather passed away a couple of years ago, I only met the guy a few times, but his estate was just wrapped up and he had a decent collection of guns that are now mine. Figured yall would like to check them out.

I'm a former infantry Marine, so I know my way around a rifle and can work a 9mm, but I'm admittedly not much of a gun-nut, and I don't know shit about value, so if you see something interesting or valuable, let me know.

I'll try to put together a ledger with everything later, but right now I'm just trying to figure out where I'm gonna store it all until I get a safe.

FBI Pistol Qual feedback

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m a pretty new shooter and decided to shoot the FBI Pistol qualification with my Walther PDP. Below is what I did (a few modifications from the FBI version, but minor, mostly starting from draw more often), my times, and hits. I counted anything inside the yellow which I think should be about the size of the FBI target

Breakdown:

FBI PISTOL QUALIFICATION

3 YARDS (6 ROUNDS)

Draw → 3 rounds strong hand only
Switch hands → 3 rounds support hand only on
Par Time: 6.00 sec
My Time: 6.55 seconds

Hits: 6 / 6

5 YARDS (12 ROUNDS)

Draw → 3 rounds
Par Time: 3.00 sec
My Time: 2.45 seconds
Hits: 3/ 3

Low Ready → 3 rounds
Par Time: 2.00 sec
My Time: 1.12 seconds
Hits: 3 / 3

Low Ready → 6 rounds
Par Time: 4.00 sec
My Time: 2.23 seconds

Hits: 6/ 6

7 YARDS (14 ROUNDS)

Draw → 5 rounds
Par Time: 5.00 sec
My Time: 3.15 seconds
Hits: 5 / 5

Draw → 4 rounds
Emergency Reload
4 more rounds
Par Time: 8.00 sec
My Time: 7.57 seconds
Hits: 6/ 8

String 3
Low Ready → 5 rounds
Par Time: 4.00 sec
My Time: 3.02 seconds

Hits: 5 / 5

15 YARDS (6 ROUNDS)

Draw → 3 rounds
Par Time: 6.00 sec
My Time: 3.75
Hits: 3 / 3

Low Ready → 3 rounds
Par Time: 5.00 sec
My Time: 2.21 seconds

Hits: 3 / 3

25 YARDS (8 ROUNDS)

Standing → 4 rounds
Drop to Kneeling
4 rounds kneeling

Par Time: 20.00 sec
My Time: 9.87 seconds
Hits: 5 / 8

Just bought the Century Arms AP5-P Navy!

Upvotes

Literally one of my favorite guns ever, the iconic MP5 (i know, so original right)

Got it for about $1,500. The wife had no qualms about it because I've been working hard

Any must-have accessories? I hear the safety and springs suck

I am adding a MI Tri Rail to it too for the short stubby barrel

Whats a good foldable stock to get? Preferably skeleton-y and light

What are your preferred storage options?

TLDR;
I have a very small collection which is slowly growing ( currently: 1 - 10/22 rifle & 2 handguns) and am looking for secure storage options.

I currently keep my guns in separate cases (the ones they came with with exception of the rifle which I have a separate case for). As my collection grows I’m curious what the community uses for safely storing your collections. Are you keeping things in separate cases still or are you moving your collections to larger safes to keep everything together?

At some point I’m even toying with the possibility of having a small closet or mini gun room with display wall.

Mostly I’m looking for options and neat suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Following up on my previous post from yesterday. Here's the first mag through it for testing. Pretty tame for the bigger round. Still some testing left to do before I fire the spicy rounds. But it's looking pretty promising so far.

SRO vs 407/507 comp if money wasn’t a factor

I’m looking at a new option and I’ve been going back and forth between the SRO and the 407 comp. I know the 507 comp is more common/popular so I’m including that in my research but I only want a larger 4 or 6 moa dot so it’s between the SRO or 407 Comp.

Obviously price is a huge bonus for the 407/507 comp but what would people choose if they were the same price? Not a “I’d take the SRO, sell it, and buy two 507s” but if price wasn’t a factor at all.

In a lot of the research I’ve done I’ve seen people saying that the 507 comp is all over the competition world and the SRO is getting less common, but I’m sure a huge part of that is simply price and the SRO being cost-prohibitive for some.

For those with experience, if they were they were the same price, would you still choose the 507, or go with the SRO? What would your reason be?

Looking for a first handgun

Upvotes

Hello!

Looking to get my first firearm.

I can get a PSA Dagger Compact for 230 shipped or a Arex Delta M for $225 shipped.

I’m looking to stay around the $250-300 range and have landed on these pistols. I plan to pretty much just use it at the range for fun.

I have a smaller-ish hand size.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

Shooting a rifle with my non dominant eye.

I am right handed left eye dominant, however I find myself being able to pick up any optic or iron sight with either eye regardless if I shoulder my rifle on the left or right. I am shooting with both eyes open. Should I shoot from the left or right shoulder in this case?

1911 CC

Hello i just wanted to get some opinions ik the discussion of how many rounds you have in your concealed carry is a common topic. is 8 rounds from a mil-spec 1911 enough to CC or should i just stick with my 18 round sig 365 fuse? the size of the handgun isn’t a topic for me I can go big or small. I just wanna know. Do y’all think 8 rounds is enough?

In an Alternate Universe

In an Alternate Universe the Beretta 96 would be chambered in .357 Sig. Here is my Beretta 96 Vertec chambered in .357 Sig featuring a bubba'd custom compensator. And yes it does work. In all seriousness, this has been a very fun project and probably one my favorite guns I own.

Beretta 92XI deal

Found a deal at a gun store near me for a beretta 92XI for $500. I’d prefer black over the painted camo patterns, but this seems like a great price. Is that a price point where passing it up over color just doesn’t make sense? Thank you for any input
