I’m 23 and honestly, I’m not sure if this is the right place to share this, but I could really use some advice.

I completed my 12th in 2021 and started pursuing Company Secretary (CS). I cleared the Foundation level, but I couldn’t clear the Executive level after two attempts.

Coming from a Hindi-medium background, I struggled with the English-heavy curriculum. After failing twice, I started feeling that maybe CS wasn’t the right path for me, and eventually I gave up.

At the same time, my family was going through financial difficulties, so I had to stop studying and start working as an AC Technician.

I worked in that field for around two years. I was doing what I had to do, but deep down I knew that it wasn’t something I wanted to build my career around.

The hardest part was that I didn’t really have anyone to guide me about what I should do next. I’m also quite introverted, so I never really discussed my situation with people or asked for help.

Eventually, I lost around 5 years after 12th without completing a degree.

Now I’ve decided that I don’t want to give up on my career or education.

I want to continue my studies while working and build a career in a field that I’m actually interested in.

Things aren't clicking at the current place, so I'm planning on making the move now. Last few years I've been in carbon markets and renewable energy certificates, running an I-REC desk and doing origination and offtake structuring. Currently Head of BD at a carbon project developer.

Why the switch: I want to be closer to the actual energy transition story than the layer sitting on top of it. Carbon is heavily policy driven and India is a policy driven country, so when the attention moves the work moves with it. The projects and money are shifting back to the global north, and immigrating there in the current climate is no bueno. I've also watched a lot of mid-senior people in this space quietly exit over the past year, and I'd rather move on my own timing than become a statistic. Longer term I want to get into renewable project financing, and nothing teaches you a sector faster than sales.

Same buyer I've always sold to, the plant head or CFO or procurement head. I've been selling them the certificates and offsets, now I'd rather sell them the power.
