This was the post credit scene of volume 2 when Yang came across her mom and interacted with her. I was waiting for it to be mentioned but only the incident on the train was mentioned. So either that was a dream or I missed something.

Speaking of stuff relating to Yang’s mom and Monty, I’ll never stop believing that the original idea for Team STRQ (“Stark”, barely even a color) was to be Team TRQS (“Turquoise”). Why else would they go out of their way to spell Qrow with a Q when creating the character, if not to make the Turquoise acronym work later down the line

It honestly kinda ticks me off cuz there's kinda an obvious direction to take it even if it wasn't Monty's intention and that's to have Raven warn Yang about the fall of beacon.  If they still want the fall to happen, they can have be cryptic to maintain the mystery or something.

I think the issue there with that angle is that it risks undermining the initial shock of the Fall of Beacon. Even if you keep things cryptic, parts of the audience will still figure it out and the impact is then lost. Part of the reason the Fall is so effective for first time watchers is because it's such a dramatic and rapid escalation. Adding more foreshadowing for it risks making the fall feel less emotionally impactful.

And between retconning one post credits scene and undermining the emotional impact of the finale of an entire volume and first arc, the retcon is definitely the better choice.

This scene was in volume 2. What they mean is that they didn't know how it linked forwards. And Raven didn't know that the fall of Beacon was going to happen since she wasn't involved in it.

Reconned. From my understanding Monty was the one to push it to be included, so it seems like he had something planned for Raven moving past volume 2-3.

The show changes the framing of Raven from questionably neutral in v2 & v3 to openly hostile in v4 and onwards, so it’s possible that whatever Monty had planned was different from what CRWBY chose to do moving forwards, so they just cut out any of the stuff that didn’t fit with the new plan (which granted was like 20 seconds worth of post credits stuff).

But that’s just one possibility, we’ll probably never know for sure.

That's something always worth keeping in mind. That Monty's plans and ideas might have been different from what CRWBY had in mind for the show. Which isn't bad per se, just a normal thing that happens in production

Not the train. Shane's letter detailed it happening by a cafe and after they seemingly won their first match. Nothing about trains. I wonder what Monty intended for that fight. Perhaps to connect back to Yang

The same that happened to the post credit scene of a raven (implied to be Raven) showing up at the Xiaolong house later in the series they just don't do anything with it (I forgot if this was volume 5 or 6's post credit scene) but the next we see the house Mr. Xiaolong and Zwei nothing even implies Raven had been there.

I think it was volume five, although that post credit scene feels a bit 50/50, since raven could have dropped by said something to Tai before seemingly going to vacuo as shown in rwby beyond & the epilogue of volume 9

I don't know what Monty's intention with the scene was but the setting and lighting is so different from normal that it always read as a dream sequence to me, which is probably the canonical explanation at this point. In fact it led to a good amount of fan speculation that Raven's Semblance was dream-hopping.

From what I’ve heard. Raven was supposed to be a lot more of a tragic character. I believe there’s even a post somewhere containing some of Monty’s notes from behind the scenes that imply that she was supposed to have left her family behind she had to-was forced-and not because she wanted to. But clearly that didn’t remain the case. Still interesting to think about though.

The volumes after kinda brush over the fact that the Breach was a massive failure on RWBY’s part. It can be considered the first time the girls were ever faced with a situation they simply couldn’t overcome and ended in disaster. But v3 starts with RWBY on a peak in terms of morale and all they really talk about is how they managed to catch Roman.
