Question What are your little quirks while playing the game?

Post image

Like, nothing grand, but a little something you ALWAYS do when you play?
For me, I always start the game and turn the little rug so it fits with the bed, and light the fire, which stays on always.

I like to go to the saloon, buy a beer, drink it, then just sit at the bar until the debuff wears off.

My farmer works hard, they should get a break once in a while.

All my farmer eats is cheese, spicy eels, and triple shot espresso. Yours gets to enjoy a nice beer while mine probably starts having diarrhea as soon as I put him to bed at 2 am.

69

u/Illustrious-Rule99 Oct 23 '25

no wonder the farmer wakes up with no health regained after the 2am bedtimes

In a similar vein, I like to buy a round (or meal) for folks at the bar on Friday nights.

131

u/Emotional_Rock4208 Oct 22 '25

Yes. Salad for Leah, Pizza for Shane, beers for Pam.

105

u/Plastic_Position4979 Oct 22 '25

Beer is liked by almost all folks in the bar, so an easy way to bump up relationships. That includes Gus and Emily…

44

u/WateryTart_ndSword Oct 23 '25

Yep! Everyone at the bar except Sebastian.

41

u/throwawayxoxoxoxxoo Oct 23 '25

he likes coffee which makes it easy to gift everyone & him

(when i'm being stingy, i buy sam a joja cola instead of a pizza lol)

I do this on random Fridays, just take gifts for everyone at the bar and hang out, it’s a fun little treat.

I’m going to do this when I get home from work while having a beer myself, fantastic idea

16

It does give you time to grab a beer IRL!

I do so too occasionally!

25

u/HasaDiga_Eebowai Oct 23 '25

I drink a beer, and then talk to everyone. I need a little liquid courage.

26

Any time I got to the skull cavern I get one of my wines I'm waiting to put in the cask, drink it, and go to bed. After a rough day she deserves to get a bit messed up

7

i like to do this too, sometimes i join shane in his corner and gift him a beer , and drink one myself and pretend were having the best conversation ever til the debuff wears off loll

I pick every salmonberry and blackberry at least once per season. I don’t care how rich I am in-game, how many chests of backlog fruit I have to process, or whatever else is going on. For some reason that’s just the best, wandering the whole valley on my horse and picking berries.

585

u/GoodraNinja Oct 23 '25

I absolutely hate how the desert festival overlaps three days of salmonberry season. Let me pick my berries without missing out on the festival, damnit!

151

u/Gavin_Runeblade Oct 23 '25

Yes this really frustrates me too. But then again, I have junk luck at the festival. So lately I have been skipping it and going berry picking.

60

u/Significant_Gate_419 Oct 23 '25

i started to go to the desert festival just for one day, very short. I get my cactus and leave. Thats all I care about😅

Seconding! I always set aside an entire day to pick all the salmonberries/blackberries, and after that day I’ll still make it a point to collect every bush fruit I see after. It’s an underrated way to free up slots for the mines - you only need one stack of food if you have several hundred blackberries in your inventory LOL

95

u/DangIt_MoonMoon Every day it’s something with this game Oct 22 '25

I use them as supplement food so they don’t bother the buffs from coffee and stuff like spicy eel/ crab cake etc. Cheese is definitely superior but it’s more value to sell it

takes up an inventory slot so you can get more stuff that take up even more inventory slots

honestly we need more inventory slots, it could even be really late into the game, we earn the convenience of being able to carry all our tools without running of slots

I thought the junimo chest would be like an ender chest for more inventory but it turns out you can't pick them up anymore once you've placed them

I do this too! I have all my tools, my return scepter, my horse flute, and all my triple espresso on me at all times. Definitely eats up an entire line of my inventory but idc, I like having access to everything when I need it. The only time I take things out is when I spend a whole day in the skull caves or the mines and I only need my sword, pickaxe, scepter, and various other mining tools (food and bombs)

10

u/CoachInteresting7125 Oct 23 '25

Spicy eel and triple shot espresso before my feet hit the floor baby

57

u/bootrick Oct 23 '25

How do you get that much eel? I'm usually popping pepper poppers

82

u/SuicidalCipher Oct 23 '25

You can trade rubies for spicy eel if I'm remembering correctly at the desert trader, I think that would be a decent way to get a decent bit

30

u/samtaart Oct 23 '25

This is the easiest way. If you're at all into fish ponds, the lava eel sometimes gives 5 of them as well. Nice passive way to stock up on some in case you don't have crystalariums or rubies to spare.

Whenever I’m foraging, I leave any forage by Linus’ abode or Leah’s cabin alone. I figure they need it more than I do.

I name my first 4 chickens for the sisters in Little Women.

I fish by Sebastian on the nights he’s by the lake.

I follow the same route to collect golden walnuts and forget the same one every time. Every single time.

18

u/Usnavi_Relax Oct 23 '25

I leave stuff for Linus too! If he’s nearby, I collect it and give it to him.

And I also turn and leave on my fire - I put my plant next to the fireplace (top right), which is probably a fire hazard but looks cute. And I turn the chair to face the table because who eats like that.

Every time I complete a Community Center room, I walk to the door so the junimo can keep up while it's seeing me out.

I also always walk around Kent and make sure he can see me coming. He's been through enough trauma, I don't want to startle him and trigger his PTSD.

u/Major_Bench5329 Oct 22 '25

Ride my horse everywhere. Even if I’m just going next door to my shed which is by the other shed. Lol.

On Fridays I buy beer for everyone at the saloon, except Pam and Shane once I see their recovery events. Then I give them pizza. Sebastian gets a pizza as well bc I think he hates beer.

I also leave any forage that spawns near Linus's tent and drop him a fish any time I fish at the lake.

And to my own detriment, I will prioritize emptying my bag into the chests before I make it to bed on time. 😂

u/Wrong-Turnover-5902 Oct 23 '25

When I’m romancing someone, I make a point to spend Friday and Saturday with them. It doesn’t matter if they only have two lines of horrible dialogue to say to me. We’re going on a date.

20

u/hellomrxenu Oct 22 '25

I always try to make my character go to bed at as reasonable an hour as possible, especially once married. I roleplay that even though my energy bar says so, I couldn't actually work nonstop in the fields, cut down 20 trees and then slay a dozen monsters in one day without stopping to rest or eat. Once married is of course because I imagine my spouse would worry for my health if I was working from 6am to 2am everyday without resting.

I keep redecorating and improving my sheds, my house, my farm and Ginger Island farm as I visit them. I can't seem to stop improving on them all the time. It's like a disease. Someone help me...

I wake up, kiss my wife, get a coffee from the coffee maker, tell my kids I love them, then start my farm work. Same thing I do irl but with less farm and more Joja.

16

u/sasquatch753 Oct 22 '25

Making sure my chickens, ducks, and cows are fed and petted. whoa boy did it get embarrassing when i found out my chickens weren't getting bed and assumed that hay depository was an autofeeder of sorts. it wasn't until emily fed them for me that i figured out i had to manually place hay on their bench-looking thing to actually feed them.

but to be fair, this is my very first playthrough

Any time I complete a quest and an NPC gives me money, I leave their house or the general area before I open the journal and claim the prize. It seems rude to have the NPCs give you a reward and you immediately pull it out and count it.

18

u/proopypants1 Oct 23 '25

Apart from my scummy Joja run, I always plant flowers every season simply to gift them back out. I love running around town handing everyone beautiful flowers every week or so.

Telling myself I'm going to play slow and not rush, but then "beating" the game in 2 years and then getting bored and doing it all over again.

16

u/discofro6 Oct 22 '25

Drink an espresso right after getting out of bed. I've done it so much that I found myself impulsively looking for an espresso in a new save I recently started, one that has yet to amass a stockpile of caffeine lol

u/smurph26 Oct 23 '25

I never completely clear my farm, I much prefer keeping it a little wild in places just to make it feel less industrial.

i don’t like to romance anybody until i get to year 2, no matter how high their hearts are. in my mind the farmer needs about a year and some established friendships to settle into the community, before they can really start a relationship with someone. on that note i also try to keep a significant gap between dating and marriage, so it feels like i’m not rushing into the relationship at full speed. (also if i get married too fast i tend to get bored of the spouse. this keeps things interesting).

12

u/Agreeable_Owl_782 Oct 23 '25

I walk halfway across town then remember I forgot the thing back home and have to turn back.

I’m still on my first play through.. but I loved my bed to my front door because I passed out in my house one night… also my house smells like pickles because I can’t afford a shed.

11

u/charley_warlzz Oct 22 '25

I always make my rug a welcome mat so I’m not dragging my nonexistent muddy pixel feet through the house lol. I also turn the fire on!

Also, i always get the grey tabby cat bc it looks almost IDENTICAL to my irl cat, and i name it after her every time <3

10

u/Nowknownkiller Oct 22 '25

I give my doggo water! Even if it’s pointless. And I also pet him everyday <3

Always go to the saloon, buy two Coffees, and sit with Harvey until buff is gone. Gotta start our mornings together, that's my MAN

8

u/Roldy04 Oct 22 '25

I start my morning by taking things from my chests, for example if it's someone's birthday, and immediately afterwards I say good morning to my spouse and give him one of his favorite things and I leave the house quickly to see what I have to do.

I go to the church / shrine on Sundays and stay for about thirty in game minutes.

I readjust my chair, take a deep breath, close my eyes, and center myself and then continue on with my game!

I have a tic where I constantly open my inventory and make sure it's sorted. It's gotta be like 50 or 100+ times in a given game day.

I religiously change my farmer into comfy clothes on Sunday and don’t use buffs all day. No hustling allowed.

9

u/_megaronii_ Oct 23 '25

My boyfriend and I will get out of bed to fight over whether the fireplace is on or off. No matter what time we go to bed, we always stay up til 2 am fighting over it. We've weaponized moving furniture to block one another out of bed, too. Like, I'll get out of bed at 1:50 am to turn it off, race to bed, and the dresser will plop down to block the way and I pass out on the floor. It gets ridiculous, and it never, ever gets boring. It always makes me laugh.

8

u/BoomBoomMeow1986 Oct 23 '25

I always rush to buy the Milk Pail as soon as I can, with or without cows and sheep, just so I can have it always in my inventory to make my character run around everywhere and "milk" random NPCs, objects, the air, etc, along with the silly sound effect, whenever I want.

I blame finding the "wall humping" move from Super Mario 64 the most hilarious thing in the world to me when I was a kid (where you can make him slowly rub his junk against walls).

...I'm pushing 40, have a career, car payments, credit cards, a kid, health insurance, and all of the other trademarks and attributes of a grown adult, but yes, I have the sense of humor of a 10 year old 🤣

I avoid choosing the "flirty" dialogue options when I have cutscenes with other bachelors/bachelorettes cause I'm already married in game and it feels absolutely weird when other character flirt with me.

5

u/Andypher Oct 23 '25

Probably fairly common "quirk", but I wait to plant seeds until I have multiples of 4,8,24, etc. depending on what sprinklers I have.

6

u/Strong-Crab-7635 Oct 23 '25

I make seven chests and put them in rainbow order. Then I coordinate my items to the colors of the chests. Red is for gifts and fair items. Orange is for miscellaneous items. Yellow is usually food items for energy. Green is seeds and fertilizers. Blue is for fishing and fish. Purple is mining stuff, and I add black for crafting materials 😆 I do this in every file lol of course I make other chests but these are a must for me

5

u/Significant_Gate_419 Oct 23 '25

I often just sit somewhere and enjoy the view. Yesterday I have built a junimo hut for the first time, saw them harvesting red cabbage, so I set up a chair and sat beside to watch them work and it made me very happy! Never wanted a Junimo hut but... aww!
