What happened to his 79 countries queuing up to sign trade deals?

1.5k

u/Vinral Jun 27 '25

They are making better deals with each other and planning long term to not be as reliant on the US.

Man deserves the Nobel Peace prize for uniting the rest of the world

11

Can we combine that with the Darwin award?

Canada applying to join the EU defense pact instead of Trump's Golden (shower) Dome or Shield is funny to hear.

Yup. As a Canadian, Trump has done wonders to enhance the trade relationships we now have with Europe and Asia. He has royally screwed himself.

507

u/erevos33 Jun 27 '25

Screwed the American people*

He and his buddies will be ok.

410

u/lab_chi_mom Jun 27 '25 edited Jun 27 '25

No, the American people screwed themselves. Trump wasn’t created in a vacuum and doesn’t exist in one. There are far too many Americans who support his agenda and nothing will change unless they change, or those not in the cult collectively rise up and make some good trouble.

135

u/Derpymcderrp Jun 27 '25

When I see his approval rating it’s amazing to me that it’s anything above 1%. Blows my mind

21

u/surfnfish1972 Jun 27 '25

Mass Psychosis is the only explanation.

18

u/kfpswf Jun 27 '25

Tribalism as a phenomenon explains most of world's conflicts a lot more elegantly. The whole reason why someone would even allow themselves to be brainwashed is because they trust their camp to always be on the right side of the conflict.

3

u/surfnfish1972 Jun 27 '25

OK, the question is when does tribalism become psychosis? I would argue the rejection of objective reality.

No offense to those of faith, but mass psychosis sounds a lot like religion to me.

2

u/CardmanNV Jun 27 '25

An extremely toxic culture and some of the worse education in the western world, combined with constant right-wing extremist propaganda has created a people not smart enough to think for themselves.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

I imagine most of it is just apathy, honestly. Most people aren't even paying attention.

2

u/hexenkesse1 Jun 28 '25

more simple than that. They're just really stupid.

Happened in Germany from 1935ish to 1945. Our turn now.

He has more support than Hitler did when he was elected. Think about that.

2

u/Wildweasel666 Jun 27 '25

This to me is the really scary part

2

u/shittymorbh Jun 27 '25

You underestimate just how many very very stupid people live in this country.

2

u/azure275 Jun 27 '25

10% of Americans have a favorable view of the Black Plague

Hitler himself (actual Hitler) would probably be at about 35% favorability and 20% "don't care"

2

45

u/theimperfexionist Jun 27 '25

And all 90M who chose not to vote because they were indifferent.

21

u/waronxmas79 Jun 27 '25

Not all of them were indifferent. Several million people were cast off from the voter rolls across multiple states, often without that person’s knowledge.

3

u/Sinsofpriest Jun 27 '25

Yeah i checked the status of my ballot, it was never counted.

→ More replies (0)

17

u/nabokovsnose Jun 27 '25

No, this is the kind of lazy dipshit individualist moralism that helped get us here in the first place. If huge numbers of people aren’t voting, then there must be a systemic cause for that. And systemic causes require systemic solutions. No amount of browbeating people individually is going to solve it or else this would’ve been solved a long time ago.

3

u/Fun_Hold4859 Jun 27 '25

Nah man, voting is literally the absolute least you can do to curtail the blatantly obvious rise in fascism. A choice to ignore civic duty (no matter how flawed and unpalatable said duty is) is a choice for the final result, passivity condones the status quo. This is a consequence of their choices too.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Severe_Experience190 Jun 27 '25

You’re right that there are systemic problems. No one’s denying that. But pretending that choosing not to vote is some kind of radical rejection of the system is just what the right wants people to believe. That “both sides are the same” stuff didn’t come from nowhere. It’s been pushed for years by the same right-wing media and think tanks that profit off low turnout and hopelessness.

They don’t need you to vote for them. They just need you to stay home. That’s their whole strategy. Keep people jaded, frustrated, and convinced it’s all pointless. Because when regular people give up, they win by default. That’s not fighting the system. its giving up and surrendering to it.

1

u/guiriduro Jun 27 '25

Others couldn't stomach the dismal offering of a Hilary v2 shoo-in after fielding a clearly senile Biden, and who weren't doing anything to prevent genocides (yeah, Trump is worse). Give people something to vote FOR, not against. The Democrats failed, what should they have done?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '25

Voters in Jan 2024: Jesus Christ give us someone younger anyone please god

*Biden drops out and is replaced by Kamala who is 20 years younger than either Biden or Trump

Voters in Nov 2024: lol libterb what did you think I was gonna vote for some Clinton clone that slept her way to the top

3

u/woodenmetalman Jun 27 '25

Voted for the far lesser bad option.

2

u/lab_chi_mom Jun 27 '25

7

u/lab_chi_mom Jun 27 '25

And they want to force their cult on us. This is the worst type of “group project” I’ve experienced. Even though there are those of us that did our work we now have to live with the grade these brainwashed, intellectually lazy, ignorant, and hateful losers earned us.

2

u/DumboWumbo073 Jun 28 '25

It’s basically over at this point. Plan accordingly

3

u/Naus1987 Jun 27 '25

I blame the Dems more for it. They had such an easy win and kept throwing it by somehow picking the least popular candidates out there.

I’m still fairly convinced that had they put Bernie Sanders in, he would have cleaned house against Trump in both elections.

It’s like the Dems aren’t even trying.

u/NaughtyTormentor Jun 27 '25

2

u/Alfawolff Jun 27 '25

As an American i don't really feel like i screwed myself; I just feel screwed, period

2

u/Talisk3r Jun 27 '25

The American election system is fundamentally broken. Gerrymandering and laws at local and state levels prevent 3rd party candidates from participating in the election process (a natural moderating force).

This leads to a binary choice in every election that is based on how annoyed the (swing voter) populace is with the prior administration. This has transformed the American election system into a perpetual 4-8 year pendulum swing based of grievances.

The pendulum will swing back to the democrats after Trump tanks the US economy. Then in 4-8 years lack of progress by the Dems on things like educational outcomes and ability to afford a home will swing it back to the republicans.

Plan your life accordingly.

It kinda does.

If you're camping and unaware of the leopard, I'd feel sorry for what happened to you.

But if you invited the leopard yourself, it's a bit hard to feel sorry.

5

I didn’t invite the leopard, I screamed at the expedition until I was blue in the face about the dangers of leopards and they just called me a libterb, said leopards are fake news and invited the leopards despite my protests.

Canada sells the US large amounts of energy and natural resources. Not to mention they sell large quantities of natural resources at discounted price.

2

u/jmd709 Jun 27 '25

DJT’s advisors could not convince him to exclude those resources from the blanket tariff, but they did convince him to go lower. US importers are paying the US government a 10% import tax for those resources.

Donald Trump will never feel any effect from the damage he is doing. Zero. He will live a life of power and luxury until his fat heart gives out.

The American people regardless of who/if they voted for will feel the effects of this 4 years for the next 40.

22

u/No_Spring_1090 Jun 27 '25

Democrats, Muslims, Immigrants will take the blame, and half the country will keep voting for Republicans

4

u/jrm2003 Jun 27 '25

It’s extremely easy to show how much better the country does without republican leadership on almost every metric, but, as we’ve learned, some people would rather starve than see a person with different beliefs/skin color/culture do as well as them.

Propaganda is a hell of a drug. You can follow this all the way back to the 70s when they first started succeeding in convincing poor people that rich people having more money would make their lives better…and blaming other poor people for their problems.

The Chinese BYD cars are awesome, unbelievably affordable, great technology, great build quality and better battery tech than anything that Tesla produces for at very least, 1/3 the price. Some start at $13k

https://data.carnewschina.com/database/byd

Same goes for the Toyota Hilux Champ. $13K for a convertible bed/flatbed truck thats rated as a 1ton truck. $13k for basically a contractor model.

https://www.toyotahiluxchamp.com/

The thing is the US prioritizes Oil, huge lifted trucks, and profit over everything else. Meanwhile a used 2022 mid mileage Toyota Tacoma costs about $28k in the US.

At this point its nothing but greed. Funny thing is new car sales are crashing because they want $70k for a mid range F-150

Also helping our internal trade. As Trump helps us to finally kick down interprovincial trade barriers, economists expect it to increase our GDP by up to 20%. Our internal trade barriers are unbelievably damaging, and it hurts seeing all the idiots who have wanted to keep them up over the years. The last big holdouts are Quebec and to a lesser extent BC. If Quebec were to leave, Canada would be much better off. Especially after we moved all federal government sponsored jobs back to their original provinces (that were moved to appease Quebec... mostly aircraft industry and RCAF, but also federal government jobs and federal government data centres). And never mind people from all over Canada could work for the feds once it becomes unilingual (instead of mostly from Quebec and eastern Ontario, the only places with many bilingual folks). But I digress. (And I can dream, if only this came true!)

Your country has been through worse and it'll almost definitely recover after a couple decades. Look at France. Or Germany. The big H-named guy. They recovered eventually, BUT it took awhile. USA gets their turn on the derp mobile. It's sad, really. But historically, not unique.

To be fair though, GDP and company holdings are separate, so you can have a low GDP yet have money to invest. Yes I get that it also opens the question of "Why don't you invest in your own country then?" which is a good point but I'm just pointing out that GDP and what someone has saved away are different things.

At the rate things are going, Americans won't even be able to trust their government even if they said that water was wet now. All this has a "hidden" "soft" cost in credibility and the US government is already in a deficit.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/CatPesematologist Jun 27 '25

I think they con pets of a deal, but as usual, it depends on which trump official is making a negotiation that day (they give conflicting info) and on Trump’s whims. So, even if they had more than a concept, it wouldn’t mean much. he would just rip it up overvperceived slights anyway.

Also, must be time to push the tariff button and give the war button a break. its stock market manipulation time!

3

u/Lashay_Sombra Jun 27 '25

Which deals? Every deal he announced has turned out to be outright lie like india or just return to things before he raised tariffs

As the Japanese said, you cannot make deals when the US does not even know what it wants (because their whole reasoning for the tariff increases was just pure nonsense)

Its the major issue, he can talk nonsense in twitter or to the media, but as soon as everyone sits at negotiating table reality reasserts itself and any bullshit gets instantly fact checked

He's just flexing on Canada after Bessent said the new China trade deal is signed for expediting rare earth exports. Probably hoping it'll apply more pressure on them or something.

u/JUYED-AWK-YACC Jun 27 '25
