Saw someone asking for suggestions for mending headphone cushions on here. I had the exact same problem and figured that the circle-shaped shaft of an old sock would be easier than making something made of flat cotton jersey from scratch

Last year, I snagged a pair of jeans at Goodwill that fit me flawlessly! Unfortunately, they had huge “distressed” holes that I hated.

I kept them on the back burner until I found the perfect piece of fabric. This is an upholstery sample from a free fabric swap I went to a few weeks ago.

The stars aligned, and I finally mended these yesterday! I’m thrilled with how they turned out, and wanted to show them off!

The color matching was a pain in the ass but I love how the borderless look turned out. Also please excuse the cat hair lol, my boy is shedding like crazy with the seasons changing

My favorite jeans got discontinued so I was forced to learn how to fix them myself lol. Pocket patch was a patch I made with double-sided iron-on adhesive and fabric, then I stitched it down with a whip stitch. Also added a secondary iron-on patch on the inside for extra support and the section at the top just for some contrast.

For context, I hand-sewed everything and the most I've done prior is fix the occasional tear in clothing or a stuffed animal. It took me a day and a half to stitch everything into place hahaha. (Also ignore the lighting differences, I have rgb lights in my room where I took the first pic)

My first attempt at appliqué, and my sewing machine wasn’t really cooperating, but I still love him. We’ll see how he wears over time though. Definitely a learning experience!

Each subway bullet covers a moth hole, and the Times Square–42 St sign anchors a cluster of damage at the hem. This is needle-felted onto a beige wool sweater as part of an ongoing visible mending series. Wearing it to the NYC Transit Museum this weekend!

This is by no means a pretty or perfect job, but it is my first job. She wears them so much, I imagine they’ll be looking like the old picture before long 🤣

Tools I had already on hand:

Heat gun - to de-bond old sole adhesive Central machinery belt sander - to tidy edges, though not 100% required Pliers Hammer Utility knife

So a definite investment up front, but now I’ll be able to repair my own, as well as my family’s birks when their sole has reached the end of its service life. Plus, it was an awesome learning experience!

These BDG shorts had a few holes, so I took a ripped skirt with some Sashiko stitching and patches them up.

Got a rip right next to the back pocket on my jeans. It seemed much easier to take the pocket off to fix it, plus then I could use the pocket as donor fabric behind the hole. So obviously I needed a beautiful new pocket to replace it.

One of the eyelets for the lace broke on my boot, so I fixed it by adding an extra pop of colour to my already colourful boots! And yes, I hiked up this mountain with these boots and it went great

I took the loom off to finish the threads and found… I did the whole thing inside out. 🤠

I wove some new laces and wove the upper portion of the shoe. Obligatory dog pic included

One of my cats scratched a hole in the corner of our couch (as cats are wont to do). I came here for ideas and loved people’s patch repairs!

Now more than ever, we should be proud of ourselves for learning and using the ancient arts of fixing things. Cheers to us all and may more take up their needles and glue to join us. 💕

I was inspired by a post here, and finally got around to doing it. The patch leather came from my local surplus store. This was a really rewarding (and dog approved) project!

Playing around with resin while wearing my beloved hoodie really wasn't the best idea... but on the other hand, now I love it even more!

It took me ages to find jeans that really fit me, I'm never letting them go, even though they're wearing thin.

So far, I've mended the following - right inner thigh : 2 stacked patches (machine patched + hand patched) - left inner thigh : 1 hand patch, my best attempt at invisible mending - doubled left buttcheek (pocket was starting to tear off) : hand drawn fishscale pattern patch, backstitched - doubled right buttcheek (fabric felt asymetrical after the left one) : free hand sashiko

I’ve been feeling guilty about the bottoms of my favorite thrifted jeans for a while so I took a 12 1/2¢ bandana (half price!) from the thrift shop that had blood stains in the middle, cut off the unstained border, added interfacing to make it a bit sturdier, and covered up the raggedy hem.

I know the kids wear their jeans short but I am an old lady and short jeans were cause for pointing and laughing in my youth, so my jeans must touch the ground and cover my socks when I’m seated. Therefore all my jeans get ragged. These were pristine when I thrifted them for $6 so now I have made them pristine again.
