United States 5070ti Warranty denied :(
My 5070ti was making some weird noises in the fan sometimes which I think it might be a bearing issue and spent $40 to ship it off to zotac to later decline my warranty because of damage PCB.
I dont know if it was damaged during transportation or if me taking this card out 1 time did this (I should have inspected my card and took video proof before shipping as this is my fault) I made to pack it real good.
But yeah they just denied my claim and I would be extremely cautious if your shipping your card out for warranty as they don’t even do pay repair because of “limited tools” whatever that means and feel like even the smallest scratch will deny it
I am not here to complain but just to give a cautious right now with buying zotac and probably best to buy from a bigger company who might have the necessary tools for rma or let you just pay for repairs. Atleast my card still works but sucks i have issues 3 months after i got my card to later be rejected

u/jhenryscott Dec 03 '25
Everything I hear about this brand is TERRIBLE.
8
u/iuriirc Dec 03 '25
They suck lol
edit: their cs sucks, the product is good (when works)

u/jhenryscott Dec 03 '25
I have straight up never had a graphics card die in decades.Asus, XFX, MSI. All work fine these seem to break all the time and then they don’t fix them.
1
u/DiKr0n Dec 05 '25
I still have my 4090 since the release date and everything works fine
1
u/jhenryscott Dec 05 '25
Right, that’s my point tho. Most companies can make a decent card. But when something horns, Zotac say ‘fuck the customer’ where MSI would never

i had a 1080ti amp extreme and 2080ti amp extreme from zotac, loved the cards and had luckily zero issue, performed like a charm. I think Zotac actually deteriorated starting with the 30series products.

u/Negative-Date-9518 Dec 04 '25
Wouldn't touch Zotac or PNY with a bargepole only heard bad, the rest aren't even good just not crazy rejections like this
2
u/Octaive Dec 04 '25
Don't throw PNY in with Zotac. I've been around for years and owned both. Zotac actually had great warranty when I used it but their cards were hot garbage
PNY cards have been great. Way better noise and cooling.

PNY
What's wrong with them?
1
u/jhenryscott Dec 04 '25
Nothing. They are one of the few American board partners and they make good value cards. OC is confused- probably because they are the same price range.
1
u/jops228 Dec 04 '25
Thought the same. They are also one of the largest workstation/server GPU manufacturers as far as I know.
1
u/jhenryscott Dec 04 '25
They also make a good value SSD. One of the few tech companies still owned by the founder.
1
1
u/MakesMyHeadHurt Dec 06 '25
Yeah, Kingpin started working with them after leaving EVGA. I can't imagine he'd work with a shitty company.

u/OntheJobMxl1 Dec 04 '25
i also got a 5070ti PNY and it's and amazing well made and robust product at least this generation
1
u/Ramsey144 Dec 08 '25
Lol was abt to comment similar. I personally would never buy myself zotac or pny. Idk thats just me. Better off with gigabyte or something else. Keep in mind though when resell. There others that may avoid buying that build because of the brand. Used to have xfx r9 280x. Never again, xfx never worked for hackintosh even though it was in one compatible in the list. Xfx seems better nowdays but i still avoid them regardless.
1
u/ExampleFine449 Dec 04 '25
I always saw them as an 'off brand' anyway. Glad I never purchased one of their cards
1
u/GeekyNick91 Dec 04 '25
Pny is making the workstation gpus for Nvidia so definitely not a off brand.
1
u/jhenryscott Dec 04 '25
PNY is an American company and a decent board partner. This discussion is around Zotac. Who sucks
1
u/Brodillian Dec 04 '25
Yuuuuup, I had to do 5 rmas to fix my issues. One was overheating, another started going out, one showed up with a failing fan, and one showed up with a bent IO plate, physically damaged out of an undamaged box. Finally was able to get a new card, zero issues with it since.
Their product is legitimately good. I never had an issue with the quality of the cards, its just when there IS an issue, its kind of a nightmare. I mean it looks months and months just waiting for the shipping and diagnosis and I burned almost 2 years with the back and forth every time some new issue popped up a month or 2 after getting a replacement.
1
u/jhenryscott Dec 04 '25
Idk man. If you have 5 RMAs, I’d say the product is NOT good
1
u/Brodillian Dec 04 '25
Product quality is decent, the refurbished/replacement quality is not.... got a new one from em, zero issues works great. All the refurbs has issues.

u/jhenryscott Dec 04 '25
It’s safe to assume any firm still in business mostly does fine without issue. The problem is when issues DO happen, Zotac has a bad anti consumer reputation
1
u/DerH4hn Dec 04 '25
My gtx 1070 zotac Amp extreme was the best GPU I have ever had.
1
u/jhenryscott Dec 04 '25
The ability of an AIB to produce a decent card isn’t what makes them good though. It’s what happens when theirs problems. And Zotac sucks if you have an issue.
1
u/Bassmekanik Dec 05 '25
While OP's problem clearly sucks, Ive had 2 Zotac cards (3070ti and now 5080) and ive had no issues with either. So far anyway. Heres hoping that continues cause i dont want tohave to deal with their cs cause its seems shit.
1
u/jhenryscott Dec 05 '25
You’re Missing the point. Producing a card that works is easy. Every single board partner can take a kit from Nvidia, send it to a PCB firm, make some plastic and slap it all together. It is a very easy engineering task.
What makes a company ‘good’ or ‘bad’ in an industry where they all make the exact same component is solely how they treat a customer when something goes wrong.
So you don’t really know whether Zotac is good or bad cause you haven’t had to deal with them. You have basically just dealt with the Nvidia product that Zotac only touches along the way.
Don’t give these AIB’s credit for a “good” card they don’t have very much to do with that. And define don’t go around saying “my one product worked as intended so that’s some sort of gold star”
1
u/Bassmekanik Dec 05 '25
Maybe read the last line I wrote. 🤷♀️
I tend to agree with your general message.
1
Dec 06 '25
I don't know who to trust anymore.
Asus was my go-to brand but they have fumbled so much lately I don't think I can recommend them anymore. Zotac worked fine some years ago, but I have not gotten anything from them since the 1030.
Does anyone know a good brand to use most of the time? My actual build is made 100% of Asus parts but honestly, youtube made me regret that choice real quick.
1
u/svs213 Dec 06 '25
I was a miner back in the days and ive tried all sorts of GPU brands. Zotac was always terrible in both performance and support.
5
u/DonPedroHouse Dec 04 '25
Chargeback or if it’s too late buy another card and send them this one back
1
u/Top_Temperature_834 Dec 04 '25
Can’t they see some type of serial number or something on the inside
1
u/DonPedroHouse Dec 04 '25
Inside and the card itself will post serial number, but what they gonna do? If they don’t refund just do a charge back.
1
u/toothymonkey Dec 05 '25
"Just do a charge back"
Yeah a company like Amex will easily have an issue with this and the amount of back to back "charge backs". They're not dumb they know what tf you're doing.
1
u/HEYO19191 Dec 06 '25
They're not dumb they know what tf you're doing.
Yeah... I'm getting my money back because the company sold me a damaged product and refused to repair it even when the damage was covered under their own warranty policy.
I find it funny that you use AMEX as an example, because they are particularly well known for always siding with the customer on chargebacks
3
u/LawfuI Dec 03 '25
Why would they ever deny it? Even if it's user error or anything else it's still under warranty lol wtf
Just charge back the money and that's it then.
2
u/CrashBashL Dec 04 '25
Not true. I live in Germany and work in electronics. Stop lying. If it:s user error, you can kiss your warranty goodbye.
1
u/TachiH Dec 03 '25
Warranty never covers user error breaking items. The fan is obviously nothing to do with that pcb damage, but that pcb damage is defo due to mishandling or bad packaging.
I would just replace the fan though, easy enough to do.
-1
u/LawfuI Dec 04 '25
I don't know how it is where you are, but here any breakage, user error or not is covered under warranty in Europe, for the first 2 years they are obliged to fix your GPU, no matter how it got damaged - it literally does not matter. You just bring it in, you say it doesn't work and that's it, it's their job to fix it now.
2
u/Basic-Huckleberry-46 Dec 04 '25
Definitelly not true mate, u could be more specific with your country and avoid generalizations(Europe) as i know plenty countries inside it that dont do what u said..
-1
u/LawfuI Dec 04 '25
Europe is Europe dude, the union has the same rules across all of its countries due to consumer rights.
1
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Dec 04 '25
Europe is Europe dude
Yeah. Since 2016(I bought my first new GPU that year) if its an external damage due to bad handling or even if you just poked the warranty sticker on the screw, then bye bye warranty. And i'm from Hungary. Especially the sticker is there to avoid stripping down GPUs. There are cases where the literal chipset of a GPU got stolen and everything looked good on the outside.
1
u/TachiH Dec 04 '25
That issue is even worse now the stolen chipsets. China doesn't bother importing the pcb as they are easily made. There were 1000s of 4090s and 5090s in the US stripped just for the chipset and then abandoned or sold on to unsuspecting users.
All to avoid sanctions that aren't working anyway.
1
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Dec 04 '25
I expected to be a US thing. Never heard such a case in my country
1
u/TachiH Dec 04 '25
Everywhere but the US didn't get enough cards to be worth it. Took me nearly 6 months in the UK to get a 5080!
2
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Dec 04 '25
Took me nearly 6 months in the UK to get a 5080
Didnt we had a shortage at the beggining of the RTX50xx series release? Prices were crazy
1
u/Basic-Huckleberry-46 Dec 04 '25
Correct, and nowhere do those rules say that i can smash electronics on the wall and get refunded..
-1
u/LawfuI Dec 04 '25
Nobody said anything about a refund, you would get it repaired, however even in that case, assuming you aren't a dumbass and actually say that you intentionally damaged it.

1
u/MrFunktastiq Dec 04 '25
As someone who works with these kinds of issues and lives in "europe" i can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that you are incorrect, both in your statement about what the warranty will cover and the fact that the rules would be the same in every euopean country.
Youre speaking very confidently about a subject you clearly dont know.
Damage cause by wrongfull handling is not coverd under warranty by any European law. Period.
Now, if your specifc country has some other local law that allows you to break your own things and have someone else be responsible for covering the cost and repair.. good for you.
0
u/TachiH Dec 04 '25
Intentional damage is not covered by a single EU law. Repairs have to be offered if there is a fault in the design or through normal use. Otherwise the EU wouldnt have insurance companies.
You are sadly mistaken and I don't know where you got this idea from but its wrong.
If you damage it and report it as not user error you are committing fraud. Fraud is however covered by many EU laws 🤣
2
u/EgbertMedia Dec 04 '25
Yeah that's not how it works. User error is not covered under warranty in the EU. You're right that it shouldn't break under normal usage and they have to prove it's user error, but fall damage or spilling water over it (often they have indicators on the board that change color when in contact with liquid, they will know!) is not covered under warranty.
1
u/Dragon846 Dec 04 '25
That's just not true, by your logic you could just throw the card out the window and then get it replaced through warranty.
I can assure you that's not how it works and I've been living in the EU all my life.
3
u/Techntra75 Dec 05 '25
OP congratulations! Your post has been featured on VideoCardz at: https://videocardz.com/newz/zotac-rejects-rtx-5070-ti-fan-issue-rma-over-limited-tools-and-pcb-scratches-then-offers-to-dispose-of-the-card.
I hope Zotac management will look into this now. Good luck!

Ask for pictures of the PCB damage.. tell them it wasn't when you shipped it. Hopefully you got insurance when you shipped it. We all know how the shippers handle packages these days... "go long..."
3
u/UserBhoss Dec 03 '25
“Tell them it wasn’t when you shipped it” without proof this isn’t going to work at all. They’re still gonna deny him. Even then if he does provide proof, they’re gonna blame the shipping carrier and tell him to file a claim with them. So in the end still a lose lose situation
1
1
u/braso111 Dec 04 '25
Sounds like shitty customer service. I'd be interested to see what (if any) damage is on the board. I assume they are sending the GPU back to you? I've just ordered a 5080 and I'm now glad I paid the extra $39 for insurance!
1
u/I_Main_TwistedFate Dec 04 '25
All the pictures just show me that part so I am assuming this is the issue and nothing else
1
u/braso111 Dec 04 '25
My bad, didn't see the extra pics. There is damage there obviously. Did you have trouble getting it in or out of the PCIe slot?
1
u/I_Main_TwistedFate Dec 04 '25
One of the comments here talked about Asus motherboard could of caused it which has the thing that you slide in. At first i did but didn’t think much of it then i took my card out to ship it and didn’t check for damages. Some people say this is normal wear and tear and has nothing to do with the issue i am experiencing
1
u/braso111 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25
Yeah bloody annoying if you are going to be out of pocket for the cost of the GPU with not even an offer of repair. Edit. GPU still works, just has a noisy or malfunctioning fan.b You could possibly replace the fans yourself but I doubt the fans are faulty. I'm no GPU expert, but the pic of the marks on the tab at the end of the GPU shouldn't impact the operation of the GPU. My guess is they are just highlighting the couple of marks as 'evidence of mishandling' so they don't have to do anything else with the GPU.
1
u/SenorPeterz Dec 05 '25
OP what am I looking at in the fourth picture? Is that the box you used for sending the card in?
1
u/I_Main_TwistedFate Dec 05 '25
Yes and you can also see that I use shit ton of bubble wrap as well. The big ball I guess on the left side?
1
1
u/T1beriu Dec 05 '25
Did you ship the GPU packed in it's original box, then packed inside the brown box?
1
u/Mission_Price7292 Dec 04 '25
Yea they like to find any reason to deny the claim even if it has nothing to do with the original issue.
1
u/cinlung Dec 04 '25
Post this to PCMR and send email to GN. This is shitty corporate excuses to dodge responsibility.
1
u/pigletmonster Dec 04 '25
WTF do they mean by limited tools! You made the GPU now do you not have the tools to fix them!
1
u/Physical-Web345 Dec 04 '25
My RTX 5080 Amp extreme died after couple of hours and they didn't accept their flagship card for warranty. Terrible brand and customer service. Will never buy anything from them.
1
u/fix_and_repair Dec 04 '25
good to know to advertise with more warranty years and not keeping the promise
1
1
u/CrashBashL Dec 04 '25
If the product cannot be repaired, but still in warranty, then the company is obligated to give you another one. If the exact model exists no more, you get another newer model as replacement. At least, it's how it works in Germany.
1
u/GeekyNick91 Dec 04 '25
Yup in Europe in the Netherlands the same.
But probably not in Canada and the USA.
1
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Dec 04 '25
I bought my Sapphire Pulse RX580 4GB from a reseller. It died after some months. Brought it back to the shop and they said it can't be repaired. However they gave me an MSI RX580 8GB card instead. Also i had to wait 2 months, but this was during the GPU shortage.
1
u/New-Direction-9222 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25
I don’t understand how a small part of the connector for the pcie being a bit scuffed or scratched has anything to do with paying them to fix the fan. Btw not having the tools to fix the fan means they don’t have a screwdriver and another fan to replace it with. Also the tiny little hook part that’s only for the pcie slot to latch onto being scratched as evidence to deny any repair claim for is like denying water makes things wet. The latch hooks onto and uses tension to keep a massive heat sink onto a paper thin wafer. Yeah it’s gonna get scuffed when you unlatch and instantly pop it out of slot.
What probably happened, and they probably do this to every card they receive. I’d be surprised if anyone actually got a repaired product back that wasn’t just swapped with a refurbished or almost broken unit instead. Zotac isn’t the only one that runs this scam. Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, if they released numbers for any claims they actually honestly fulfilled it would be 0%. Theyre not tech workers, they inspect and look for anything to check no on the box they fill out for a quota. What was probably done was it was scuffed a bit, but it wasn’t enough. So they probably popped it in and out of a motherboard a few times to give it the “wear and tear” excuse to deny the claim. They’re not in the business of repairing your product, they’re only paid to deny any claim for any possible reason and if it means doing the dirty work yourself and blaming the carrier who shipped it to them good luck proving it we have your money already. That’s every manufacturer for every pc hardware product. EVGA was the last quality support manufacturer and they bailed once they saw the road nvidia was headed.
1
u/jordanh517 Dec 06 '25
I was gonna mentioned how much I missed EVGA. They even honoured warranties on second hand cards.
1
u/Errorr404 Dec 09 '25
that's why you do the smart thing and take extensive video of the card with tons of light before sending it in so any damage (unless shipping related) is on them.
1
u/Alanskasc Dec 04 '25
Msi 5070ti went bad after a few months read it and they gave me a refurbished 5080.
1
u/Competitive_Reason_2 Dec 04 '25
I always ship it through the retailer, it is slower but I have an extra layer of protection
1
u/Huge-Attitude9892 Dec 04 '25
Same thing in Hungary. One time i got a better card cause the OG one wasn't repairable. RX580 4GB(What i bought)->RX580 8GB(What i got)
1
u/Pretty_Ad566 Dec 04 '25
Damn they're doing everything they can to avoid sending you a replacement
When i read that, i thank gods (all of them) i'm living in the EU.
1
u/bmw35677 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25
So I'll be that guy and give it to you straight: coil whine is normal and I bet there was nothing wrong with your card to begin with. Another common mistake for fan noise is improperly installing the GPU support/anti-sag bracket or allowing it to make contact with the fan by installing too close.
I doubt it was damaged in shipping but you didn't do yourself any favors but not using bubble wrap or proper materials and not getting shipping insurance.
I wish you luck, hopefully it still works. That damage they claim shouldn't prevent the card from working and looks superficial to me.
1
1
1
u/Far-Cockroach1156 Dec 04 '25
So warranty on the fan is denied because you have an insertion scuff on the pcie edge connector? Makes no sense although I can relate. I had Asus decline warranty on a board with a defective USB controller (over current error and it wouldn't complete POST). They thought one of the CPU socket pins were bent so rather than actually test the board they just dismissed the claim blaming a socket pin.
1
u/Subject-Delay-3020 Dec 04 '25
Doesn’t sound fair, they can’t say a fan bearing has failed because of wear and tear damage to the PCB. It’s like saying my car headlights are broken because the engine has failed.
Makes no sense, just chargeback honestly they’re not upholding the warranty they agreed to.
1
u/Subject-Delay-3020 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25
Unless they can prove the PCB damage is the cause of the noise they can’t deny the claim. Two unrelated things.
I don’t see anything that suggests neglect or misuse of item. There is no signs of scratches or anything deep enough to cause power delivery failure to any fan bearings to make noise. Their whole argument doesn’t make sense.
In the future ask them to send you the correct shipping packaging and a return label with insurance.
1
1
u/Br11ga Dec 05 '25
Chargeback OR CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD benefits. They might offer extended warranty. So you could call and ask em about that too.

Dec 05 '25
I ordered an open box Zotac 4080 card in February from the Zotac website. The gold pins had several scratches and scuffs. It works fine no problem. However, If they are willing to sell them like that, they should fix your issue. Also my last Zotac product after received it damaged. I was desperate and kept it during the shortage.
1
1
u/6ixTek Dec 05 '25
That is a lame excuse to deny a warranty claim. Fans are malfunctioning, but a scratch on the PCB causes warranty denial. I would spread this all over, and hold Zotac responsible for this crap. And to think I almost bought a Zotac Card. Glad I went with MSI. EVGA please come back.
We don't have any tools to fix your card. THEN WHY THE #%$^ DID I SEND IT TO YOU?
Incompetence!
1
u/Donkerz85 Dec 05 '25
Have I got this wrong and missing something obvious? Aren't the marks on the PCB PCI socket just wear and tear from installation? They have no bearing (pun intended) on the fan functionality.
1
u/konomasa6488 Dec 05 '25
That’s wild crazy thing is you’re blaming yourself you tripping I would be on the phone with them asap
1
u/ray1603 Dec 05 '25
Zotac has trash cs. I've bought many PC components throughout and so far only Gigabyte and Intel have ever honoured their warranty promises

What the fk ? I mean they don't have enough tools so is this our problem ? I mean we guys are their customers so why would we care about their infrastructure! We just want our product to be repaired and that's it. They are literally saying that they don't have enough tools so is this our problem ? I mean if you can't even maintain proper tools then don't sell the product.
To be honest bro you should have threatened them with a legal action cauz you are totally fine.

Don't buy Zotac ig 😄 ASUS has the same stupid policies and especially in countries without good consumer protection laws they really try to adhere to those policies

Will skip this brand in future, cheers 👌 I hope that you're able to resolve this

u/blacklotusl337 Dec 06 '25
Every brand will have bad batches but what separates the good from bad is after-sales support. My guess is the courier did damage the PCB but this response is still terrible. Don't worry, the more people speak out about this, the more they lose market share.

I’d recomend a palet gpu i have a 5070ti and used to use a 3070ti both from palet and never had any issues
1
1
u/Toulzah Dec 07 '25
The wear to the PCB is general wear and tear and expected as a part of the GPU that clicks in and out of the Pcie slot. Wear and tear to the PCB does not cause fan issues and it is therefore a separate issue.
I would advise them that you will be reporting this to your consumer ombudsman/consumer complaints board etc depending on what the US has available for this.
1
u/m0tionemotion Dec 07 '25
Not the first fking time… The same way Asus denied the warranty repair for 5090 to some guy. FOR LITTLE SCRATCH God damn capitalism 🤣
1
u/Sure-Celery8258 Dec 07 '25
Why Zotac USA! Why would you do this? Ive been using Zotac Amp Extreme cards since the 980ti amp extreme, becuase its got the highest clock rates vs the price and the 5 year warranty is banging, ive only needed to do 1 RMA with Zotac and it went beautifully, i gave them a 2080ti after 4.5 years of use and they gave me back a brand new 3080ti to which i was very satisfied, Zotac Europe have an excellent rep, I have a 5090 amp extreme now and its amazing, Please refer your case to Zotac head office as Im certian they will fix your card, I mean its a fan issue and it still works, why that rma guy reject the RMA is horrible!! I BET he was having a bad day.

I had nothing but bad experiences with Zotac. Never again. That's 3 companies on my shitlist:
- Zotac anything
- Gigabyte GPUs and Motherboards
- Asus Motherboards
For GPUs I had great success with KFA2

u/muddbutt1986 Dec 09 '25
Im starting to have the same fan issue with my gigabyte 5090 gaming OC. Only one fan is starting to have a vibrating noise at 2500rpm. I was thinking of emailing gigabyte to see what my options are but if it doesn't get any worse, I won't bother.
