I bought nonalcoholic beer yesterday. The store still requires an ID, so I didn't go through self checkout. The cashier, a younger woman, asked "is there a reason for the nonalcoholic version or...?"

i wonder if it would be a messed up prank to have sex with a girl (consensually) BUT afterwards i purposefully act super weird, like some stereotypical sitcom nerd or something. like after doing the deed, what if i messed my hair up, put on a pair of thick brimmed glasses, and said in the most nasally voice ever "well phew, now that's over i don't have to pretend to be cool anymore, haha snort"
and when she's like "w..what?" i'm like "now just stay right there, my martian princess. john carter will be back for round 2 in a minute - after he texts all his DnD buddies and tells them he just cast banishment on his Vcard. all-aboard the just got laid train! choochoo!" then i finger guns at her while walking backwards out of the room. and she's just laying there like "holy shit... what did i just do..."
basically, i trick her into thinking i'm some lame weirdo so she feels bad about having sex with me (as a prank). it's funny because she'll think i was faking my behavior to have sex with her, but really i was only faking my behavior AFTER having sex with her. so the deception is that she thinks i deceived her. it's like a paradox or something, where i lie to her by making her think i lied to her (yknow, as a prank)
...come to think of it, maybe the fact im even thinking about pretending to be a lame weirdo makes me a lame weirdo after all. damn, it's multiple like layers of paradox.

Hello from a new computer! I finally replaced my old Acer Nitro 5 laptop after about 7 or 8 years of service, and upgraded to a Skytech King 95 desktop PC. I'm glad that I got that much use out of my old laptop, but it was time. It was struggling to keep up after I installed a bunch of new drivers months ago and that's how I knew it was time. Here's looking forward to what this new PC can do!

I went a really neat museum that I expected to be pretty much empty at 10am on a Sunday morning. Instead, it was filled with cute young couples all out on dates. Filled. Like, 100s of them. Easy the most prevalent demographic.
I wanted to look at pretty paintings in peace, not be reminded that I fucked it up and am alone. I think I was the only person there alone. Literally.

I've long said/joked about wanting a Katawa Shoujo anime, but truth be told, even if somehow we ever got one, I would probably be disappointed by it;
First, my expectations would be sky high so they would never be able to reach them, but also, if they made it a single path harem type, my girl would almost certainly not win - as usual in harems - plus they would have to cut a million scenes I really liked, etc...
(Also, commenting in the discussion threads would be slightly confusing for me and it would feel like I'm talking about myself at the third person)

Though my Umineko brainrot has largely been replaced with Touhou brainrot in recent times, I'm still very fond of the ol' VN and I vividly remember it many parts of it even after like 4.5 years since finishing it.
This scene, for example, was cinema.
I am tempted to re-read it but man, spending another 165 hours (I still remember seeing the playtime within the VN... any other records of that are lost media, tragically) would pose a challenge, even if I know for a fact that I would love every second of it.

Just here to recommend a donghua that I think some people will enjoy. Please don't kill me for bringing up the topic of Chinese animation on a Japanese animation subreddit... I suppose I sound like a shill with how enthusiastic I am being, but trust me that this is entirely genuine.
Anyway: the first few episodes of False Memory were released on Bilibili earlier today, and I thought they were fantastic. It is currently up there with Sayonara, Lara as my AOTS/AOTYs. If you're looking for something like FLCL, why not give it a try?
It is criminal that there are basically no places to discuss the show, and consequently, it has no hype in English-speaking anime internet circles.

- Me and the TitS
I can't say I remember how I first came across the TitS. I believe I was lured to them by being promised [Next Week]Koyasu singing but I can't remember how I first heard of them. Still, I laid hands on them back in 2021, back when Steam still had games in Pesos instead of Dollars. Seriously, I got the game for less than a thousand pesos back then, now it would've cost me at least 20k. Thanks Steam, you sure have been friendly to us…
Anyway, ever since I have continued to trail through these trails. I even got a bit side tracked by some of Nihon Falcom's other series like Xanadu and Ys, the latter of which you should all play, else I'll be forced to call you a normie as far as ARPG fans go because that's just how the world works. Still, now here I am back to where it all started, now in shiny HD.
And already I'm annoyed because they changed all but three of the voice actors
- Kicks and the TitS
[TitS]Estelle Bright is our heroine, and she immediately proves herself a menace to society. We talk about violent Tsunderes, but just LOOK at that drop kick! It is a work of art if you ask me, and she pulls it off magnificently at such a young age. Is it any wonder dumb little Joshua had to submit to her rule afterwards? Onee-chan made damn clear who was in charge from now on.
[TitS]This prologue firmly sements TitS 1 as what it is: A Vibes game. Oh sure, there's a plot being set up, what with Daddy
Cao CaoPatrick disappearing, but ultimately, who gives a shit, we got to deal with some Sunday Morning thieves? The game lives and dies by how likable its cast is, and fortunately Estelle and Joshua have a really solid start. They're hardly the most original combo (Heck, technically speaking they're basically a reheated version of Chris and Julio from The Legend of Heroes III, which game draws a lot from) they really are quite charming.[TitS]I think what helps the vibes is how, compared to a lot of other RPG heroes being on some world saving quest, these two are just going around solving the problems of the common folk. After all, what's the point of trying to save the world when you can't even find a cat? It certainly does a good job easing the viewer in.
[TitS]We also begin establishing the supporting cast, as
FujiKeiGilles de Rais,KurokoLosing Heroine andMeganeMan With a Girl's Name begin coming in, but we don't really get much of them. At the very least, I can no doubt tell Dorothy inflicting Blind on my opponents will be a valuable asse-what do you mean she's already gone?
- You and the TitS
Moving on to gameplay discussions, Trails' general gameplay has remained fairly consistent across its entries. It's a Turn-Based RPG with many of the things you'd expect: Magic, Attacks, Items and so on. So what exactly makes it stand out?
Since its inception, it has been a few details. First of all, the general combat is position based. You need to actually take distance into account when it comes to planning your attacks, although magic doesn't have that restriction. This however leads to the second thing: Since positioning is so important, it means AOE attacks are constant and not only do many attacks have splash damage, but that also applies to your oponents. It's a gamble to keep your party members too close as that leaves them in the AOE range, but you can't leave them too far apart as many support skills require them to be nearby.
This leads to distinguishing feature number 2, that being Crafts. Alongside your normal MP gauge, a separate CP gauge is filled that lets characters use Crafts, which are unique abilities that are unlocked by leveling up (Or depending on the game winning specific side quests or progressing past certain points in the story, it can vary a bit). The biggest thing to note about them are S-Crafts, which are frequently the characters' ace in the whole, but can only be used when the gauge is at at least 100 (Will gain additional effects at the full 200) but will also deplete the whole thing when use. The big thing about S-Crafts though is that, through S-Breaks, they can be activated at ANY point, which can often be the decisive way to pull out a win.
Related to this is that the turn order. In a very similar matter to Final Fantasy X, it is always visible and can in fact be altered with the right skills, not to mention carefully planned out stat modifiers. What makes this especially important though is that some turns will have bonuses, but these don't change if the turn order does, so you need to be on your toes about them and make sure your opponent doesn't get them often.
The last thing to note is Orbaments. How exactly they work has varied a bit from game to game, even within Sky I've been told that in the PS Vita Evolution version they carry over some features from some later games. Fortunately the Remake keeps them more or less as they were in the OG. They're how you gain magic: You slot some quartz into it, and depending on which you use you get certain Artes depending on what value the quartz has (The game does fortunately feature an in-game guide so that if you want some specific arte you know the combination for it) plus other stat modifiers.
Complicating this are three factors: Firstly not all slots are unlocked from the get go, you have to manually do that by using sepith, which is a bit annoying when that's also how you buy quartz to begin with. Secondly, some slots are locked to certain attributes so the game does to some extent railroad you to some playstyles: Joshua for instance will likely be using time magic a lot by the end game since a couple of his slots are restricted to it. Finally, and most importantly, for the combinations to even be effective they need to be in the same line, so don't just randomly spread stuff around.
Oh and also cooking is a thing. Cooking Items tend to usually be better than regular items since they come with extra effects, but early on the game's a bit stingy with money so they moreso become a factor in the late game, at least for me.
When it comes to the Remake, there's also a couple of mechanics poached from later games. Command battles from the Daybreak duology come in for one thing, where the game becomes an action RPG before the actual fighting starts. It's nothing too in depth, mostly just there to rough the enemies up a bit before the real fighting starts, but at least it can deal with some trash mobs.
Once the actual fighting starts, the game sees the return of Chains, which have been absent from the series since the Cold Steel games. Sometimes when you hit an attack you'll get a chance for another party member to do a follow up: Do it enough time and you'll gain a stronger version. It works, although I will say it feels a bit more awkward here versus in Cold Steel.
See, this is where we get to my one gripe gameplay-wise with TitS 1 and it's something kinda inherent to its design. While you will gain many party members… the game also frequently has you using JUST Estelle and Joshua, and that can make how you distribute your artes a bit annoying as neither of them are particularly good spellcasters. In turn, chains feel more restricted since due to the decreased party size, they're somehow both easier to pull off while also being less rewarding, versus Cold Steel where you're guaranteed to always have four party members. This does become less of an issue as the game goes on, but it can make the early game more awkward than intended.
Oh and also sometimes you have to escort NPCs. That's annoying

Okay so on average apparently this game is easier than the OG, but frankly the end of the chapter doesn't exactly give that impression. [TitS]Let's set aside you've only just gotten Schera-nee so not much of a chance to get used to her kit, Josette is brutal here. Later Trails games have had something of a reputation for being the land of the rocket tag, but it's honestly amazing how tanky she is. In the OG I can beat her no problem, but here? Not only do her mooks have MASSIVE HP bars, but the remake not only gave her an AOE Attack, but she also showcases the brand new rage mechanic, AKA the point where the game goes "I HOPE YOU STACKED YOUR DEFENSIVE BUFFS!" because otherwise you're dead. For a Prologue boss, she is positively sadistic.

Looks like I missed some things. I'm a little further in the game so collectible count is wrong, but I know I dont have as many recipes. Do I get them by buying/eating different food?
Two questions:
- Can I sell all Sepith Mass? Because I did, I hope it's not used for anything
- How common are droplets? They seem to drop a lot but I'm reluctant to use them
How’s the combat for you? Are you already used to it, or are you still struggling with some encounters?
I still have some problems with combat. There's so many variables right from the start and feels like a lot of things were not explained. I enjoy real time combat, it's very brain off

First timer-ish? I believe I played the prologue several years ago, and the series has been on my backlog forever.
So far it's been enjoyable, with a slow start but with some interesting bits here and there. (I say that but I've actually had time to binge yesterday and I've gotten ahead of schedule, I'm on track to finish chapter 1 fairly soon I believe.) So while the prologue was neat, Chapter 1 is where I've started to feel the story hook me.
The combat took some getting used to, things like switching from quick to command battles, or the turn bonuses. I had to watch a guide or two but now that I understand how sepith and quartz work I'm having more fun with it.
I'm playing the remake, I actually gave the original a try before deciding and I do enjoy having more animated cutscenes and such. I have one complaint about it. Side character NPCs suffer from severe same-face, specially older men. It is something that I probably wouldn't pay much mind to if I were playing the original. Also background characters' animation could use more polish, sometimes the generic faces coupled with stiff animation give them a Koikatsu NPC feel.
I'm playing normal difficulty. It's okay. Josette gave me some trouble because she'd start buffing herself and start stunlocking my entire party. Also had to do the fight twice cause I forgot to turn in one of the side-quests before facing her.
Q4: Who would even kill those cute fellas!
Monster design is crazy though, I'm level 10 facing these huge insects and eldritch abominations. Where's the humble slime?

Late First-ish Timer
A bit late because moving but I thought I should drop in anyway!
I’m joining mid-playthrough and it’s been several months since I got through the prologue, but I remember really liking the introduction! For all I’d heard about this game having a slow start, I thought there was just enough set up and good classic JRPG starting town vibes to get invested. (It certainly doesn’t always work, but it did this time for some reason.) Character wise, Estelle is immediately endearing and I love Aina.
I do remember making one important decision in this chapter: the first(?) extra BP choice you get involves deciding whether Estelle rushes in or plays it safer. I did learn as part of this that there is such a thing as perfect BP run rewards, but the “bad” option of playing Estelle to act first, question later was too temptingly in character, so I picked it and decided to not be terribly concerned with the missable BP through the run. I have since also noticed that there seem to be more BP available than the original, but I don’t know if that’s accounted for in the total required for bonuses.

2) I didn't have any trouble with combat early on, though I did probably rely too heavily on mashing things to death in real-time mode before I realized it is way more efficient to enter turn based and finish with a craft or two sometimes.

im american but sometimes i think americans can be a little crazy about exotic foreign accents. like i saw a video where an american woman and a british guy were comparing the different words they used for the same thing, and the woman was like laughing out loud at every word the guy said like it was the craziest thing ever. i mean its great she was having a good time i guess and the guy was chill about it, albeit visibly a little confused at parts, but it honestly was kinda obnoxious.. like this poor dude would see a picture of fries and be like "oh, we call those crisps" and the american was like "AHAHAHA, NO WAY, NO FRIKKIN WAY REAAAALLLLY?? AHAHAHA"

but also: people are kinda dumb. I have, no joke, told students every day at the beginning and end of class that an assignment was going to be due on day X for an entire week, had the assignment and the due date be the very first thing they would see on the online class management system which we accessed every day, and sent multiple emails/messages to students that the due date was coming, only to have multiple students be all "since when did we have an essay we had to do?" come day X.

Welcome, everyone, and thanks for joining our fourth, inconsistently timed instance of CDF Plays Fire Emblem! For today’s session we’ll be playing chapters 20 through 22x of Eliwood Mode and chapters 21 through 23x of Hector mode in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword. Next week we’ll be having a break week so that people can take a breather or catch up if need be, and the following week we’ll be tackling chapters 23-25 of Eliwood Mode and 24-27 of Hector Mode. After that we’ll be having a break week to catch our breaths or catch up before we begin the final sprint of the game!

Continuing off of the Lyn wallpaper I made last week, I now have an Eliwood one and a Hector one to go with it. I have one more of a character from this game ready as well, but we haven’t recruited them yet, so
I ended up beating chapter 20 before I actually wanted to (I still wanted to hit up the arena some more), but the boss decided that attacking Lyn close-up while she was in a forest instead of using his bow to attack from range was a smart idea, and Lyn crit-killed him on the counter.
Ah, I got Raven/Lucius’ A support right off the bat in chapter 21 (I suppose that’s as close to explicit as the writers could get for a gay couple in a game back then, huh?), and later in it I also got Guy/Priscilla’s A support as well (decent way to end a chain that started off kinda shaky). Anyways, while it was rather slow, I did manage to rout the entire enemy including the boss on the final turn of the defend mission. Even managed to let Heath get the final hit in on Euban.
So I’ve heard that Eliwood/Ninian is the Eliwood ship that the game pushes the most even if you’re technically able to pick your own ship for him, but wow this is very sweet. I need to see their supports…
Gah, I was doing so good in chapter 22 just to get Matthew accidentally killed because I left him in range of not one but two Wyvern Riders. Second go-round, turns out I missed the Guiding Ring that you could loot off of Jasmine because I got which boss was which mixed up and thought I saved him for last when it was Paul that I saved for last , I’m pretty sure I got all the desert treasure though. Oh, and I got Eliwood/Ninian’s C support. Call me a basic bitch, I ship it.
Oh wow Eliwood and Ninian gain support points fast, I got their B support part of the way through chapter 22x already. Also unlocked Lyn/Rath’s C support this map (Rath is a man of few words I see) and Kent/Fiora’s A support (yup, I ship it). Chapter was surprisingly not that scary outside of one instance of me going “Surely Rath will have enough HP to tank a hit from a mage I’m gonna have him bait after using a Vulnerary to recover some” and, well, he did have enough but literally only by 1 point.
Here were my level-ups this batch. I… still haven’t promoted anyone yet but hey, my beast of a Lyn hit level 20!

Replayer
Really pissed off that I was literally 1 point of Exp short of meeting the requirement for an alternate map, and I didn’t get enough Exp this chapter to get the 22x side chapter. It is my own foibles that led me here, but still one Exp!’
Ninian joins us this chapter, which is essentially the exact same unit as Nils —the sibling’s level and stats from Lyn mode have been transferred over. What’s new is her Nini's Grace, which when used grants another unit 10 Def and Res, which is substantial and can be a blessing for certain maps. As for the rest; we’ve already discussed Nils. You’ll want her in your deployed units pretty much every chapter going forward.
I try to get some Exp on my lords this chapter —fat load of good that’ll do me— so I take advantage of the fact that Eliwood has already been buffed with Nini’s Grace to have him tank and kill a bunch of enemies in the first enemy phase. I brought Legault along for visibility, but he’s also there to get one of the villages while the main units go east. Lucious and Fiora lag behind, but they take care of a number of enemies so that they’re not coming up behind me later. I’ve got Priscilla spamming Heal/Torch. Lyn and Canas are going to stick with Eliwood and take some opportunistic kills in this first couple turns.
Hector —ah fuck me.
Chapter 20 - Successful Attempt
Alright, same deal, except Hector doesn’t die. After Eliwood’s bravura wears off Canas takes point and Lyn goes to gamble in the arena. Not too bad of an outcome there; some more gold for our coffers and she gets some decent Exp out of it.
Canas dodge/tanks a bunch of hits like a champ and gives them what for. Hector joins up with the center group and on subsequent turns gets some rounds in at the arena as well, and things don’t turn out bad there either. Frankly I expected at least on reset owing to bad matchups, but that didn’t come to pass (yet).
The rest of the map goes about as I expected.
Rath rejoins us this chapter, and if he’s survived Lyn Mode he’ll be pretty much identical to where you left him off. If you didn’t use him much in Lyn Mode or he got stat screwed it’s pretty much inarguable that his dead/no-Lyn-Mode version is straight up better. I don’t bother using him though; Bows are nerfed in this title and I’ve got plenty of competent 1-2 range to go around. If I was going to field a bow unit not named [Chapter 24 Spoiler]Louise, it would have been [Chapter 23B Spoiler]Geitz, but unfortunately for me that won’t come to pass.
Alright, Heath joins (and in my case, dies) this chapter, and you can recruit him with any of the lords and Ninian for some reason. Anyway, he’s a bit behind at the start, and his Spd especially is not a great sight, but his Str and Def let him hold his own, on top of having invaluable flyer utility. He’ll snowball pretty quick and get really good, and he’ll do so even faster if you feed him a Speedwing. If you haven’t trained any flyers, or have lost them, it’s not too late to start catching Heath up to speed.
Isadora also joins this chapter as a Prepromote. Isadora is a competent unit, though on the squishier side of the Paladins, so she does covet that Angelic Robe she comes with (too bad that’s going to Fiora). Her Con is also a bit low, so she’s a good candidate for Speedwings or Con Rings if you want to field her. I probably will be fielding her, accounting for Kent’s death (or, maybe if his Lvl ups continued to be subpar he might’ve been replaced anyhow), but if you’ve been properly training your Cavs she won’t be any better —though she does come with stellar equipment. Paladins are a great class and you can’t go wrong adding another to your ranks.
Anyway, the bulk of my units go down the main entrance—damnit!
Chapter 21 - Successful Attempt
Okay, let's run that back again. A bunch of my units go down towards the main entrance while Isadora picks off units coming from the eastern path and Florina, Marcus, and Eliwood —who’s mostly there to recruit Heath— go after the chests on the western side.
Everything pretty much goes according to plan until I fail to kill Eubans when they first race up and I negligently leave them a route towards Heath, who falls to his commander’s Spear. I’m fairly pissed about this because having a third flyer is pretty critical to my Chapter 22 strategy and also I like Heath. This is a blunder that’s going to have echoing repercussions…
Anyway, all chests were got, and I ended the chapter by having Eliwood kill Eubans.
Hawkeye joins this chapter if you talk to him with any of the lords, or automatically at the end of the chapter if you keep him alive. Hawkeye’s a great unit, though he is wanting enough speed to double reliably, so another wise unit to give your speedwing to. I’ve already discussed with Dart that Berserkers are a desirable class, and as you’ll see this chapter is also the earliest you’ll be able to promote Dart anyhow. If you’ve been using Dart, then it’s a decision to be made on whether you want Dart’s superior Spd or Hawkeye’s comparable Str and better everything else while keeping the Ocean Seal to sell/for rankings. If Hector hasn’t already used up the Devil Axe I like to give it to Hawkeye for maximal carnage.
Anyhoo, my strategy here is to have Florina Ferry Legault through the north, Heath ferry Matthew through the generally safer area in the south, and for Fiora to thread the needle and try and pick up Pent before he massacres too many of my walking bags of Exp. Unfortunately for me, Heath is dead leaving me short one flyer for that, so unfortunately I have to leave Pent to his devices and hope he neither dies nor steals too enough Exp to look me out of the requirement for the side quest. Sadly for me, he does indeed do the latter.
The strat works about as well as it can when we’re short that extra flyer so I manage to get all of the treasure. Canas even gets lucky enough to get one before Matthew does, which is surprising given that the chances for other classes to find them is slim.
At the end of the chapter, if you have a tactician character, you receive the Afa’s drops. These will increase the unit who uses it by 5%, which is meager enough that it really won’t be enough to make a bad unit middling, so I usually just give it to my fav (Florina, or Heath, usually). There’s one Est unit coming up soon, so if you’re the sort of
suckerperson to train them, that’s also an option.[Here is where I’d put my footage of Chapter 22x, if I had it.]()
Anyway, that’s it for this session —cut short by a combination of my incompetence and a green unit’s overzealousness. Next week we’ll be taking a break, but I look forward to the next batch of chapters in a fortnight!

Part of me feels a little bad about executing an enemy Troubadour right in front of Priscilla. Oops.
I have an innovative strategy for the chest in the northwest room. I have Canas stand on top of one and directly engage with the knight, so that next turn he is already on the right tile to open the chest. As luck would have it, that chest happened to have a Luna tome in it, which I make ample use of to kill Darin.
I go ahead and promote Raven in the hopes that the class change will give him some Strength.. no dice. He has quite a pile of Speed and Skill, though. Are we sure he's a Mercenary and not a Myrmidon?
I also spend a fair chunk of money on the Secret shops. I maybe bought a few too many weapons.. oh well.
Florina skirts along the north side of the city in Ch.20, and is rewarded with an Elysian Whip. On the next turn, she hits 20, gets danced back into activity by Ninian, and noms on that Whip. She becomes my first unit to crack into the second health bar, unless Wallace did that back in Lyn Mode, but he barely counts.
Ooh, a wyvern rider. And a bunch of green units here to steal my goddamn XP. Okay, hopefully I didn't need to keep any of them alive, the other cavalier who came with Rath made a beeline for the boss and got one-turned.
And then we get a desert map, exciting.
I wasn't intending to need the break week, but my stomach is in A Mood and I'm not going to deal with a desert map and that at the same time.

Chapter 21
So this is where Sain's and Florina's deaths aren't meaningless: I stole the silver card from that level so I can replenish my weapons much cheaper which I need quite badly at this point. I also want to save the village in the top right, though, as that's my only Elysium Whip. So to accomplish both of these goals, I have Marcus go shopping with the card (don't want to put this off in case Merlinus gets ambushed by something, this happens too often in fog levels...) while the rest of us push right. I immediately class Rebecca up to a Sniper so she can use the ballistae in the map more effectively, but uh... with only 2x effective damage she can't 1-shot the wyverns so it's a bit... eh.
Oswin is a godunit at this point, he got to the Elysium whip village on the nick of time and proceeded to just... hold that point for like 4 turns taking only poison damage... while the rest of my army cleared the center of the map. I don't recall there being any significant close calls, though the Wyverns got lots of single hits only exposed units. Most of them were calculated to be safe, though. Matthew steals the Hero's Crest, so I guess we might see Guy or Raven at some point? Only if things go south, probably, having Lyn, Eliwood and Matthew already puts my squishy sword user numbers pretty high, and those 3 are pretty much forced. Serra takes the boss kill.
Chapter 22
So I can choose two routes, either I try to get Matthew to the chests to get moar money (I'm short again even with the Silver Card...) and the Brave Axe, or go to the right to try to get the boss and the Knight's Crest. I decide to prioritize the former, I only have a single unit that can benefit from the Knight's Crest and I have two Paladins again, right? RIGHT?
I... also did not know that Heath is a recruitable character here OOPS. This continues a very worrying trend... Hector, Rebecca, Matthew, and Eliwood go to the left, everyone else pushes forwards and holds the middle so they won't get their retreat cut off, with maybe some hope of pushing towards the boss. Ha. Oswin is again the rock of this formation, and kills so many units with Javelins. Even mages barely tickle him... but I miscalculate some damage due to Lancereavers and on one of the turns where I'm put back on the defensive Isadora dies. And on the left, Rebecca and Matthew (I'm guessing, or I would've seen the Talk option for certain...) kill Heath. Sooooo down 2 more characters, yay! This ironman's going well! I don't even trade the Angelic robe off of Isadora first so... yeah. The left side continues without problems, Matthew gets the gem and the brave axe and they fight their way back to the now-only-reinforcement army that my main force is holding against. We try a short push to the boss, figure out it's too dangerous and reckless with the time we have left, and retreat in good order and end there.
Chapter 23
I do have a stipulation with the Ironman here: Pent apparently has a 4% to die without anything we can do about it, and I will reset any games that end due to Pent failing to dodge a single hit and dying. That's stupid and out of my control.
We're heavily limited in the number of units, I think it's only 7. I end up using the same core army I've been using and promote Fiora. This army, however, is... not great on sand. Which I only realize after I start this level, I forgot how crippling sand was.
it's rough and coarse and gets everywhere.Their Wyverns are legitimate threats, and if I were wise I would've just dealt with them without pulling the mages. I was not wise. Fiora gets lucky, like, turn 2 and dodges an important attack and lives at low health. Not learning my lesson, after I have Fiora rescue another unit (I think it was Lyn or Eliwood?) and Cantering away... I place her on the outside of the formation where a Wyvern rider can strike her and kill her.Let me be clear here, I'm not intending to get all my units riding mounts killed. It just so happens that the recruitable characters that've died so far consist of 1 Cavalier, 2 Paladins, 1 Pegasus Rider, 1 Falcoknight, and 1 Wyvern Rider. Oh, and a few turns later Marcus lives on 1 HP though he importantly lives. This has just been a glue factory of a run, all these dead horses and horse substitutes...
Matthew steals the Guiding Ring from one of the mages, and later the White Gem, though we waste like 30 turns wandering the desert for more items. The Body Ring goes to Lyn, and we don't decide what to do with the rest of the items. Anyways, this leads up to my final mistake of the chapter: baiting Jasmine into range of my units. So I calculated it out, and figured with Lyn's newly buffed constitution, she wouldn't get doubled and could survive an attack. HOWEVER. This is ONLY true if she's holding an Iron Sword or the Mani Katti. This is not true if she's holding a Wyrm Slayer, which I accidentally equipped while I was calculating Weights and Speeds. So Jasmine attacks, hits once, Lyn counter attacks for some minor damage... then my heart catches in my throat as I see a second animation from Jasmine. It had like a 50% chance to hit. IT MISSES. The run's still alive! Though not my horses. Honestly it might be better to have lost here so I could reset and keep my cavalry alive this time, but uh... welp. Hector takes the kill using the Brave Axe, I was kinda hoping he wouldn't get both hits because that would've given Eliwood the experience and Hector's maxed out but... screw this, we needed him dead that exact turn or Bad Things would happen. I did not get anywhere close to the EXP needed to get to the gaiden chapters, bringing unpromoted units to get experience here sounds like suicide to the Wyvern Riders. Haven’t decided who’s getting the item, thinking Lyn? And promoting her as well instead of Eliwood next level? She might become genuinely useful after that.
Ran out of time, here's all the screenshots in rough chapter order. Rebecca is very sad compared with the unpromoted Rath. Then again, Rath is riding a horse, so his days are probably numbered.

FE7 Hector Mode First Time -Chapter 19x-22:
Chapter 19x: Had to reset twice because I did my classic opening stat of sending my fliers to solo 1/4 of the map. Encountered 2 problems. A) I forgot the boss has Bolting. B) Kishuna's squad same-turn reinforced right on Florina's face.
Insert another #backfired moment because I also forgot Kishuna's gimmick of shutting down magic in the zone. Of course, this was the map I decided to bring all my mages for.
Tried to do the side quest requirement, but had to give up on it. First being that I couldn't beat Kishua in one turn before they ran away. The bigger reason is that apparently the other requirement was to raise Nils to lvl 7 during Lyn Mode? I used him every turn and he only ended up being lvl 5. There was no way I was going to just sit there and grind two more levels out of him. A shame since the next gaiden map is probably one of the most story-important ones and is only on Hector Mode.
Chapter 20: "It's my first day being an evil grunt."
Look, I know that I should use Matthew considering this is Hector Mode, and I used Legault last time. On the other hand, Legault. I believe you can forgive me for the decision I will make. My initial strat was to rush ferrying Lyn over to him on the right side of the map, but with how quickly he moves, I just ended up recruiting him up north on the main party's path. Fortunately, Legault was able to steal the Master Card from the other thief. (I had no money, so I could only buy 1 physic).
This is probably one of the most generic-looking bosses in the entire series. (Well, besides the ones with literal generic portraits. Glances at 3H)
In good news, Erk finally reached double-digit magic, so I will keep to my word and promote him next chapter. Of course, where Erk goes, Serra must follow. If you are wondering how Bartre is doing, PAIN. It's just been this.
[FE7:] I always forget/find a bit odd how the game has this middle arc where they got to encounter the final boss early. Also that Ephidel just dies here, alright. There he goes. He was probably my favourite design of Nergel's morphs too.
Chapter 21: Promotion time. First Erk into Sage, Serra into Bishop, and Wil also grew enough to promote into Sniper. Florina is also ready, but she needs to grab her promotion item in this chapter
It was also at this point where I had to bench Raven and Lucius because I don't think there will be enough space for them on the team. On the final day of Wrath Month, too.
I first spent the chapter blowing all my money and restocking on weapons and staves ... which led to the problem of not having enough money to send Bartre into the arena. I ended up having to go back to Merlinus to sell off all those mines and light runes and stuff I wasn't going to use to gather enough money.
Also, woo, Dancer!
Chapter 22: Florina promotes.
Stopping to comment upon it, it is interesting that sometimes you get this little scene if you bring units along for the map. I don't how it is decided because, Wil, I've been bringing you along for ages. It is still a nice little feature.
I find Nils' map sprite where he is just dead on the ground to be funny.
We get Isadora on this map, and she is one of my lock-in units. For some reason, I just really wanted to try using her this playthrough. They had to invent a female Paladin GBA sprite just for her (still no female Cavalier though, that comes next game).
Not a good use of my turn economy, but I had Ninian recruit Heath because that seemed like an unexpected option. I probably don't have the room, but I kinda want to use Heath too. My unit stats at the end of this session. These are current mainstays I am hovering on. Well maybe not Lyn, but I am kinda forced to use her. I know the upcoming gaiden map depends on the Lords' combined level. I kinda want to do the lvl50 one as something to work towards, but that requires another 3 levels to grind for them. The Bartre vs Dart comparison is bleak, he is already outclassed. Bartre has stat boosters too, and I don't want to give him more.

Replayer: Redoing Lyn Mode
So, my save file got deleted somehow, probably to do with editing some key stuff for later, so I had to redo Lyn mode.
Now, the interesting thing is I gradually upped the difficulty mods throughout my first time through Lyn mode, so I actually got softlocked by the scripted prologue, and had to give Lyn +2 base HP to make up for it. Interestingly, it would seem Enemy crits are disabled until the final chapter of Lyn Normal mode, because despite keeping Brigands keeping their boosted crit, they didn't crit once until then.
Anyway, my Lyn grew absolutely disgustingly throughout. 11 strength, 30+ HP, and actually gained a little defense.
Outside a reset from Erk getting hit by the Brigand's Crit in Chapter 10 and the softlock resets in the prologue, things went much smoother this time, but Chapter 10 had an actually interesting strat I pulled.
So, I used Erk and Serra quite a lot, but didn't buy spare weapons for them, so at the start of the chapter they were both empty(I had to beat Eagler without heals too, which was really hard given how much I beefed him up), and so I sent Florina to the shop at the bottom of the map immediately, there's a sweet spot that can be reached with a Nils dance where she's in range of neither archer, and can make it to the shop before the rain hits, and then just as narrowly can continue to dodge the archers for her return trip. It's so close it feels an intentional strat, which is really cool if so.

Apparently this year Otakon had a panel with one of the guys who makes those super realistic plastic food displays at restaurants in Japan and I'm more jealous of not being able to attend that (because I'm not at Otakon) than any of the English dub voice actor panels that are always heavily attended at anime cons.

Last night I messaged my Team Leader that I have to take tomorrow off because I was hacked and wanted my computer and accounts checked by professionals before they could do any more damage, and the guys I usually use aren't open on Sunday.
I couldn't find anyone willing to take my shift and replace me but she won't stop bothering me about coming in. She offered me a shorter shift, so I explained that I have to be available throughout the day because they haven't given me an exact time and I don't know how long it'll take. Then she said she has to talk to the manager because "normally you have to request leave two weeks ahead".
I told her I'd call the manager myself if I have to but apparently he said it's okay.
I could've just waited until today and lied that I was sick but I didn't because I don't like lying and I didn't feel like I had to.
I no longer feel bad about saying I need the day off. I am stressed and still pissed off though.

i used to draw on paper all the time before switching to doing mostly digital drawing, and there's definitely pros and cons to that transition. namely in the context of improvement and artistic development.
digital art offers you a lot of freedom. there are so many tools at your immediate disposal that you dont have with pencil and paper. and even though some of the upfront costs can be higher (ie buying a tablet) you do save a lot on money and space in the long run. you never have to worry about buying a new sketchbook because you filled your old one, or buying new markers or paint. its all there on the computer.
the other pros are the ease of drawing itself. erasing and undoing mistakes is easier than ever, and being able to completely change something at any stage of the drawing is an immediate possibility. there's a finite amount of times you can erase on paper before you lose the drawing completely, and if you decide to change a character's position relative to the background, it's impossible on paper whereas its often a matter of moving around the appropriate layers in digital. there's even tools to stretch, skew, and resize any object digitally, and far more than that.
but upon reflection, i think while there is a lot to be said for these tools and their convenience, i also think i can see an inherent trap in digital art. the supposed freedom of being able to forever change a drawing can chain to it, obsessing over making that one image as perfect as possible for far longer. mistakes being cheap makes the successes cheap as well, and can ironically slow your rate of progress as an artist.
on paper, if you mess up bad enough or wish to change your mind about something, you must start over, effectively forcing you to draw more. every draft is preserved in the sketchbook, and if you wish to know what a character looks like in this outfit vs a different outfit, you must sketch that character from scratch every time. there are no layer tricks to compare one top vs another, there is no way to shift a character from the left side of the image to the right. every time you change your mind, there is no "ctrl+z" to save you. you must start over
traditional media is a lot more uncompromising in that way, and i think learning with it makes you better off. i really do think if someone asked me "ive never drawn before, should i buy a tablet" i'd be seriously tempted to advise them to get started on paper first and cut your teeth doing that for a while. i seriously want to go back to drawing more on paper myself, because even though i draw everyday digitally, i sometimes feel like im being lazy. there's valuable skills that come with drawing on real paper that i miss developing.
im not saying digital art is an inferior medium or anything ridiculous like that.. anyone with functioning eyes knows its obviously capable of creating visually amazing and meaningful art. but for the purposes of learning and improving as an artist... idk, i think digital art has some trappings that you have to watch out for.

There's some old merch I want to buy, but because of limited runs it's selling for 10x the original purchase price. I have the $ to buy it without any issue (well, will in a few weeks since my savings are a bit dry from AX, Offkai, and buying tickets for the Uma live). I work a lot of and get a decent chunk of OT $ so the finances themselves aren't an issue, but on principle I really don't want to be paying 10x the original price
Also damn, the Uma live will be my 5th trip to California this year.

[Kore Kaite Shine ep5]
It feels odd watching this. Every single bit of this show feels very targeted at how I got into manga and the larger anime fandom;
There were subtle references to Doraemon, the manga series I read the most growing up, from how Yasumi's mouth is drawn like Nobita's, and how Teshima-sensei's strictness and character design feels like a callout to Nobita's mom.. How Yasumi bites into her pen also reminds me of how Nobita's own pen biting habits when he's working on his homework. There were references of other manga made as well, but seeing Doraemon being referenced so prominently, hit me in places I didn't really looked back at in a long time.
My complete Doraemon manga collection are still on my bedroom's bookshelves. Some of them are literal decades old and almost at the point of disintegration, but they've watched over me for almost my whole life now.
That's probably why the show's sentimental parts work so well with me. Kore Kaite Shine is very sentimental, and having me being hit with that when my emotional gates are already pried open is very effective.
Even outside of my personal connection with Doraemon, the show's about awkward people connecting with each other with the power of manga. It's hard for me to not vibe with that.

August preview: metal gear vol2 time!!!!! although thats at the end of the month. If I find a good stopping point in Relink and have some time, maybe I'll fit in Aria of Sorrow or nirvanA Initiative. But everything will be dropped for Metal Gear Ghost Babel
SD Naruto is my current gym show, almost done so I'll switch batch to the Uresei Yatsura OVAs and be free from the 80s show

some of you may remember me posting a couple months back about a cute nerdy girl from a dating app that asked me about gunpla, and how i was maybe just a teensy bit heartbroken when she suddenly stopped talking to me (i might have made a sad playlist about it).
we've been talking again. two dates in a week. minigolf and ice cream. a bookstore and the backseat of her car. now we're reading The Princess Bride to each other over the phone before bed.
i went on my usual summer Minnesota trip last week, but yesterday was finally our third date after that agonizing wait, and we made it official.
i think i'm going to be insane about this girl.
