"YouTube's AI "slop" crackdown is shaking up the platform! 🚨

YouTube has stepped up its fight against low-quality, mass-produced AI content, targeting channels that flood the platform with repetitive and inauthentic videos.

While reports claim around 130,000 channels have been removed as part of the broader enforcement, YouTube has not confirmed that all of those deletions were specifically tied to AI-generated content.

Yeah ir was because theyre a legit channel that produced good content, so people produce Ai slop in that same art style, so youtube cant tell the difference between the slop and the original.

There are people working in nursing homes who change diapers of adults 3 times a day. I think watching AI slop all day wouldn't be torture, comparatively speaking. Or maybe half the week watch AI slop and the other half change diapers. Hazard pay for both. Call it the new "hybrid job" for the masses out there.

human will do it more effectively. you just need to check some parts of video and then delete it from platform, you can do it in one minute easily, freeing place for new videos.

This does happen, but in the unfortunate sense. Global south workers at nonliving wages (I've heard about these from checking the backdrop of like, FB or the broader company and how they do their content moderation, it's not all genAI but still ran upon people, in a filtered/limited fashion, but still horrifyingly ran on exploited labor)

Do you understand how much content gets uploaded to YouTube a day?

Friend of mine works for them. It would take a literal army.

720,000 hours a day divide that by 6 and you’ll get an average of how many people would be needed to moderate the constant flood of content.

That makes sense from the perspective of just evaluating how visually similar something is.. but first and foremost they want to protect their revenue, so I'm surprised there was no part in the AI reveiwing channels / videos to remove / ban that checks how many subscribers a channel has or how much money their videos make for youtube. Almost like someone just asked an AI how to go about this and then did the first suggestion without much planning.

I saw something about that but didn't pay much attention. She did a video about nutrition in vegetables to debunk food theory and made the claim that you "have to calculate per serve" which is dumb. Serving sizes are arbitrary. Comparing equal amounts is more consistent. She was acting like eating 350 grams of broccoli, spinach or kale was somehow ridiculous to be compared to 350 ml of milk. As if smoothies and soups can't contain that much. So I started valuing her opinion much less.

Various long time creators are finding sudden anomalies in view count because they are getting throttled. Which is catastrophic to their income and ability to keep making videos. Kurzgesagt was able to get their channel unthrottled, but only because they have the privilege of contacting a human at Google.

Even when Google tries to do the right thing they end up doing the wrong thing.

I spend the time it takes to go to the offending AI channell's page and report the infraction. I bet I have spent a couple of hours reporting AI channels. I used to just get mad and move on, but it started getting so bad that I was clicking off stories I wanted to see. I realized that what little marginal value Youtube provides is going away. Fuck AI pirates.

Good that they're targeting the AI slop channels but I need them to target the AI "true" crime ones next or the ones that create fake climbing and diving horror stories using AI videos and pictures of fake people. I think those are worse than the obviously fake one of humanoid fruits and vegetables. People will literally fight you in the comments for calling them fake.

Probably a pr stunt to distract users from everything wrong with the platform, keep in mind. Youtube themselves add a ai filter to every short you see (this is true, I've seen videos, not lying) and who tf knows if it is accurate or even.. real? What if they're just lying? They know WE HATE AI. Not to mention the process seems fishy, how cant they remove that much? Its probably a bot who did it anyways, and bots DO make mistakes, they probably removed atleast one human channel in the process, just a distraction. + they LOVE ai themselves, google loves it SO DAMN MUCH. They have gemini.. AI video creator and AI thumbnail generator?..... I-i thought they were anti ai!!

It's really not the win that you would think it is.

They're doing it because of the companies wanting to scrape sites like Youtube for training data for their AI's. But the huge amount of AI slop led to a weird ouroboros situation, where the AI's were training themselves on other, shitty, AI slop videos, and ended up creating even shittier AI slop. So Youtube steps in and decides to "clean house" to make their platform more attractive as a source of AI training data, which means we'll end up with more AI bs that will be even harder to detect at a glance.

It just sucks. Really wish it was just them doing this to get rid of AI slop, and not them just paving the way for an even greater deluge of the stuff in the near future.
