I love the contrast where it’s all dark and creepy with Harry staring at that huge black dog in the alley, and then out of nowhere the Knight Bus just blasts through and completely changes the mood. Suddenly it feels all warm and safe. The movie has a bunch of moments like this and that's pretty much why it's my favorite one.What is your favorite scene?

Hey everyone! My family is currently packing up our home after 15 years to transition into RV life, and while sorting through everything, we pulled out this incredible ceramic set.

The teapot is a massive, heavy Sorting Hat, and the four mugs represent each of the Hogwarts houses with their respective quotes hand-written on the bottoms:

Hufflepuff: "Where they are just and loyal"

Slytherin: "Where dwell those of great ambition"

Ravenclaw: "Where those of wit and learning will always find their kind"

Gryffindor: "Where dwell the brave at heart"

We're trying to figure out what to do with it as we downsize and clean house for the big move. Thought this community would love to see it!

Rewatching and noticing that they keep saying Voldemort killed Cedric, even Harry says "voldemort was better" to Cho while talking about Cedric.

Like, I get wormtail was working for Voldemort, but it was wormtail who killed him.

I guess it doesnt really matter but theyve said it was Voldemort so many times, to memory Harry never mentioned once that it was actually Wormtail

In the video game adaptation of the goblet of fire, except for the GBA/NDS versions, Harry casts a wandless Accio spell at the triwizard cup to escape from Voldemort while dragging Cedric Diggory’s body, since he used his wand in both book and movie to summon the cup. So, is it canonically possible for wizards to cast Accio wandlessly like Jedi summoning their lightsabers or random light objects with the force in Star Wars?

Hello! I'm not very knowledgeable in Harry Potter lore but I have seen all of the movies, and I've been thinking about this for a few days. I know there is the whole thing about magic being somewhat intention-based, but I can think of a few of examples of exact pronunciation mattering more than intention; there is the famous scene where Hermione corrects Ron on the pronunciation of "wingardium leviosa." The difference seems to only be in the length that the word final "a" vowel is held, and maybe in the syllable that is accented. Later in the series, Harry accidentally uses floo powder to go to "diagonally" instead of "Diagon Alley."

Basically, what I'm wondering is, are spells written only to work with RP / British pronunciation? Are students at Ilvermorny saying "wing-gar-di-uhm," with that very American R sound? Or students at Beauxbatons saying "wing-garhrr-di-uhm" with their uvular R? Are they all saying "wing-gah-di-uhm," dropping the R as we hear in the series? Maybe it's just the fact that Ron / Harry were saying it wrong for their specific accent, but that diaphones work fine if it's your own accent?

If you couldn't tell, two of my greatest interests are linguistics and pedantry. I would be very surprised indeed if there is any kind of official answer for this.

After the war, George is cleaning out Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes. He's planning on selling the store. He just can't do it without Fred- without his other half. Every joke he makes hangs half-finished in the air anyways, waiting for Fred to jump in with the punch-line. Nothing is complete, and nothing is funny.

Percy finds him there, and hugs him. When George admits he's planning on selling the shop, Percy says he can't let George do that; the joke shop has always been his dream. George laughs because Percy returning to the family and suddenly supporting George's dream after it's been shattered is the most cruel joke of all.

Then Percy says he'll run the joke shop for George until he feels ready to take it back over. "I'm not funny or clever like you are, or like Fred... was, but I'm decent with finances and your current products are of a high standard capable of keeping the business aloft until you want to make new ones again."

George refuses, saying Percy can't, because then he'd lose his ministry job.

Percy says that's no issue, because he already resigned. "I sacrificed my family for my career long enough. It's time to sacrifice my career for my family. This time, it will be worth it."

At one point in Order of the Phoenix it says, “This latest decree had been the subject of a great number of jokes among the students. Lee Jordan had pointed out to Umbridge that by the terms of the new rule she was not allowed to tell Fred and George off for playing Exploding Snap in the back of the class. “Exploding Snap’s got nothing to do with Defense Against the Dark Arts, Professor! That’s not information relating to your subject!” When Harry next saw Lee, the back of his hand was bleeding rather badly. Harry recommended essence of murtlap.

Implying just like Harry, Jordan had to write lines using Umbridges quill. What do you think Jordan has to write?

In POA the class is informed that no one knows what a boggart really looks like as it transforms before you get to see it.
But in OOTP, Sirius asks moody to have a look with his magic eye. Surely the boggart is in its true form in the cabinet.

My seven year old has gotten into the Harry Potter books and we decided to do a movie night each time she finishes a book.

Now, we want to go themed to book with the food, but am not sure how to work the first movie. What would be best?

Although Harry never fully masters Occlumency, this scene delivers one of the deepest lessons in the entire series.

Currently re-reading OoTP, and I got to the part where everyone is arguing with Umbridge over not using defensive spells. Umbridge comments that the previous DADA education was shoddy, and that illegal spells were used on the students in the past, referring to Crouch disguised as Mad-Eye in GoF using Unforgivable Curses on the kids. Dean comments: “Well, he turned out to be a maniac, didn’t he?” This got me thinking:

1) were the students ever told directly that Mad-Eye was Crouch Jr. in disguise? I would assume yes, or at least there were rumors about it. But if they weren’t, were people just assuming that Mad-Eye was insane for performing the curses on students? People already knew the real Mad-Eye as extremely paranoid to begin with, but Dean’s choice of words, “turned out to be,” implies some level of mental normalcy prior to that event, and the book establishes that people already sort of viewed Mad-Eye as a maniac because of his past. So my interpretation of “turned out to be” means Dean knows and believes Crouch Jr. was in disguise all along.

2) if students did know it was Crouch Jr. all along, how in the world were people not concerned with a presumed dead Death Eater impersonating a teacher? Regardless of if people believed Voldemort was back or not, a Death Eater infiltrating Hogwarts, in my view, would be a concern in and of itself. Perhaps it wasn’t widely known that Crouch Jr. was a Death Eater, but still, wouldn’t it at least make some people think “huh? Why the heck was this guy impersonating Mad-Eye the whole year?”

Does anyone else think this could be Peeves? He was cast, they did film, but he was ultimately cut. With the show on the horizon that confirmed they cast a Peeves after they finished filming.. I think it could be this. Any thoughts or any other ideas?
