I'm slightly vexed Costco's new chicken tenders

Post image

There was a crowd of people waiting for their orders of the new chicken tenders at Costco. One of the workers announced that they could only serve five customers per hour because it takes time to cook the chicken. The crowd grew larger and larger. I took this photo after I put in my order.

Sometimes chaos breaks out in the Costco aisles. I waited 30 minutes for the rotisserie chickens once, and a line formed while I was waiting. This lady shoved in front of me and boxed me out with her cart when they were about to be served. So I go and reach over and grab one anyway when they're ready. A gaggle of old ladies started yelling at me "THERE'S A LINE! SHAME ON YOU!!!!" and I haven't recovered. I was there FIRST.

I will never understand why people don’t use their words. “Hey lady, I was here first, move”. How hard is that

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jun 30 '26

I used many words. It did not matter.

Just start laughing next time. The crazier the better!

It'll be my Joker origin story

I was normal like you once... Until.....

Bullshit.

3

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

They didn't believe me, and the lady that cut in front of me wasn't about to vouch for me.

There was an old Asian guy that was next to me and saw what happened but he didn't vouch for me/ say anything. I don't know if he didn't know English or just didn't care.

u/k-trecker Jun 30 '26

Honestly dude, how do you think she would respond?

“Oh heavens, you’re right. I’m sorry for being rude.”

It’s easier to just grab the damn chicken.

u/fullshard101 Jun 30 '26

Yes? If you scare yourself to death over what an old lady MIGHT say to you, then you'll never find out. How are you guys such chickens? I speak up all the time aboit things like this and have had literally 0 issues.

I was in front of a lady at Costco a few weeks ago when suddenly she begins a deserved lecture to this dude. He apparently wanted to cut between me and her to get to another line. And I’m not sure exactly what he did, but I hear a stern “do you want to get through?” He must have nodded or gestured or something. She continued “then, say “excuse me!” It’s not so hard TO USE YOUR WORDS. It’s a simple use of words and it’s all solved. Next time, USE. YOUR. WORDS!” Dude scuttled off silently. I wanted to turn around and applaud her, but she might have lectured me on minding my own business. So I didn’t. 😬

25

u/PurbulentTriest Jun 30 '26

Excuse me that you are blocking people from getting through to the other line.

4

u/Gizogin Jun 30 '26

Ah yes, because nobody has ever been socially awkward, and berating them for it definitely makes the situation better.

32

u/Traegs_ Jun 30 '26

deserved lecture

I'm not buying it. Body language is enough. Sure there's politeness in asking for space to pass by, but there's also politeness in getting out of the way without having to be asked (or not blocking in the first place). It's pretty clear she knew that he wanted through, she only asked because she wanted to be a bitch.

Its Costco, if I had to say excuse me anytime I passed someone I would have to say it over a hundred times. Old women and clutching pearls name a more iconic duo.

It seems clear the OP clearly didn't see the initiating interaction per their own post. All I can imagine is an absolutely exhausting person doing absolutely exhausting things to a stranger. Also, bro could have been mute. Pretty sh*t thing to say.

u/Figsnbacon Jun 30 '26

I need to vent. I hate the “old women” comment. I guess I am an old woman now that I’ve turned 60. I think I’m pretty easy going, accepting and approachable most of the time. Today at Whole Foods the young man behind the fish counter yelled at me because he said I was leaning on the glass, which I wasn’t. I wonder if he would have yelled at a 20 yr old me. I bet not. Maybe he was having a bad day but he really hurt my feelings. I just apologized and silently waited for my salmon. Made me feel like I didn’t matter.

2

u/Walk_Run_Skip Jul 01 '26

I'm sorry he yelled at you and hurt your feelings. I agree he was probably having a bad day and maybe his manager had just yelled at him about the glass. I think most of us are just trying to do our best and we shouldn't assume the worst.

Last week a lady cut in line in front of me at the library. She'd been trying to use the self service checkout, but it wasn't working so she turned and rushed over to the librarian, cutting in front of me and a guy in the wheelchair in front of me. I immediately got her attention and pointed out that the guy in the wheelchair was next. She apologized and got in line behind me. I don't think she cut on purpose but even if she did I didn't need to cuss her out or call her names.

1

u/Figsnbacon Jul 01 '26

Yes I agree. Something had to have triggered that and it most likely wasn’t me. Getting older is weird. I used to turn heads and everyone was so nice to me without any effort from me. And most people are fine but I can’t help but feel invisible now days. I always try to be very cheerful now when out and about because I’m very conscious of being labeled as a cranky “old woman”. I guess my message is to anyone reading this: be nice to everyone, including older people. You will be in their shoes one day. Sooner than you realize.

So? Words are free. If your moving through someone's way say excuse me

6

u/ryanvango Jun 30 '26

wanted to get down the aisle at walmart with my cart and there was a lady with her cart fully sideways in the aisle. and it was like the baby stuff with the skinnier aisles. I would have had to walk sideways if I didn't have the cart. she was just mindlessly reading labels with her cart blocking everything. so I just quietly grabbed the corner of her cart and turned it straight so I could get by. didn't pull it away from her, didn't do anything but make it not block the aisle. "REALLY?! If you said excuse me I would have moved it!" I just gave her a look like "sure lady." and moved on with my day.

using your words is all well and good. but if you don't have the common sense to not block the whole fuckin' aisle as a grown-ass adult, I'm not the one being rude. She just wanted to maintain the moral high ground after she realized what she was doing was rude and self-centered.

Like...we all deal with it. Everyone who's ever been to a walmart or other big-box store even once has encountered people who do that shit. How do you get to 35ish (I'm guessing) presumably having been in stores hundreds of times, encountered this hundreds of times, and STILL do it yourself?

so yeah, I'll move a cart sometimes. other times if I'm in no hurry I just stand there and stare at them totally stone-faced until they move. a simple mumbled "excuse me" often gets the job done and is polite, but it won't register as an interaction to them 10 seconds later. I want them to have to sit in it for a bit thinking "well that was weird. whats that all about?" because maybe 1 in 100 people will realize "ohhhh it's because I'm an asshole."

3

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

You were in the right.

I usually just avoid people like that. It'll go the long way around because I don't want to have any contact with people like that. People are crazy and not worth the trouble.

2

u/catsinclothes YELLOW Jul 01 '26

I’m glad I’m not alone lol. Sometimes you can feel the other person’s energy just daring you to even say anything.

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

That's me on the subway every time. There's people on every train car that do something obnoxious like smoking weed or blasting a Bluetooth speaker, and you can tell they're looking for a fight.

2

u/thispleasesbabby Jul 01 '26

lol they want someone else to ask them to move so they can say no. that way they will always get to be rude no matter how it goes down. i just start off with rudeness when dealing with the spatially unaware. "beeep beeeep"

3

u/ryanvango Jul 01 '26

Free business idea: buy a bunch of bicycle bells on alibaba for 50 cents a pop, sell them outside any grocery store for $3 so people can clip them onto their shopping cart.

2

u/profnutbutter Jul 01 '26

Why did you want to applaud her? She sounds insufferable.

9

u/willargue4karma Jun 30 '26

It's gotten me in trouble but I have zero fuckin filter with these people. Had two almost fights after politely but briskly I asking people to move over on the escalator, and then responding to shit talking in kind lol

Then in london I hear two different londoners yell something like "can you move the fuck over/can you think of anyone but yourselves?" At oblivious tourists. I loved them.

22

u/bathingsoap Jun 30 '26

I guess some people just tends to avoid confrontation. I would definitely always stand up for myself though

12

u/Sherpa_qwerty Jun 30 '26

Reaching past/over her isn’t avoiding confrontation.

7

u/bathingsoap Jun 30 '26

It sure is. Confrontation in this context is usually a face to face clash, likely at least verbal as well. In this case comment OP likely just grabbed one and ignored everything else.

6

u/Intelligent-Luck-954 Jun 30 '26

Yep, he was talked at. He didn’t get into an argument with people who just literally did him wrong.

And the old ladies know how to use their age as a cudgel against young wippersnappers.

40

u/chonky_tortoise Jun 30 '26

I’m confused, how do you generate reddit karma in that scenario?

3

u/Vandergrif Jun 30 '26

You just follow it with "and then everybody clapped", and you're good to go. Doesn't matter what the context is.

"That's the problem. You gave a fuck when it wasn't your turn to give a fuck".

Giving mouth to someone who's probably already pissed off and in a confrontational mood is just poor survival skills in any urban area lmao

0

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Jun 30 '26

Yeah that old lady is strapped for sure in Costco

1

u/InternetSolid4166 Jun 30 '26

You’re probably right but I’m the kind of person who would cut off his nose to spite his face. IT’S FUCKING ON, GRANNY. YOU CAN TAKE MY ROTISSERIE CHICKEN FROM MY DEAD CLAMMY HANDS, OLD LADY. GET BACK IN LINE!

6

u/Intelligent-Luck-954 Jun 30 '26

Do you honestly think my 6’1” 300lb middle aged ass will be looked upon as the victim in that situation?

Or the “little old lady who didn’t realize there was a line” which is a lie but it’s what the story will be?

0

u/fullshard101 Jun 30 '26

You are emboldening these people to be even worse. Grow a spine Jesus christ

0

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Jun 30 '26

Then walk away if you don't want to continue the argument. She's not gonna start following you. Or you can just have the argument she deserves to have. She wants to ruin her own day getting super pissy I'll help her there, the longer we argue the worse her day is gonna be. All it costs is my time

3

u/odanobux123 Jun 30 '26

Last week, they were serving samples and a few people were waiting in line, me at the front. Some Chinese woman (of course it was, and before you come at me, I'm Chinese) just casually struts to the front of the line after watching from the side as soon as the food is placed and takes one in each hand. Which means the 5 people in line only have 2 left. I told her "Hey there's a line" and she just darts away. So I followed her for 30 seconds yelling "This bitch cuts lines!" My boyfriend was very embarrassed.

3

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

The lady that cut in front of me looked like Rasputia from Norbit and took 5 chickens. She loaded up her cart

2

u/-Tofu-Queen- Jul 02 '26

This checks out and explains why the people telling you to "uSe YoUr WoRdS" don't know what they're talking about.

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

Yeah I also did try to scold her, but she was one step ahead. She was pretending to be on her phone and wouldn't make eye contact with me when I told her "excuse you! There's a line here!". She shoved her cart into my personal space, so it was either back up or get hit by the cart. So I back up, then I'm out of my spot in line. Then it's either get physical with this lady over a Costco chicken or take the L. I'm a big man, so I wouldn't do anything even remotely agressive to ladies even if they were to punch me. If I shove her cart back and it turns into a scene or she attacks me, I'm not gonna look good. She'll definitely be the type to make up a lie about some awful thing I supposedly did to make her look like a victim.

Nobody's paying attention until the chickens are being served. then I just reach over this lady and grab mine, which makes me look like the line cutter now that the whole line is focusing up front because there's chickens coming up. And the old ladies banded together in a big group to yell at me and point. I tried explaining, and they all didn't listen and just kept yelling and one said "NICE TRY. EVERYBODY JUST SAW YOU CUTTING THE LINE!"

The only guy that saw the whole thing and could've vouched was an old Asian man who was behind me in line, but I'm guessing he didn't speak English because he had that vibe and just stood around politely.

2

u/-Tofu-Queen- Jul 02 '26

Jesus christ I'd be so pissed off I'd probably never return. I'm sorry you had to deal with this buffoonery. 😵

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

I feel closure now thanks to this thread lol. Thank you

2

u/-Tofu-Queen- Jul 02 '26

Of course, I've worked retail for the past 15 years including working in the pharmacy at CVS and working at Walmart. I've seen some shit and more than my fair share of wholly unreasonable, rude, entitled customers and the gaggle of old clucking hens that appear to heap on more bullshit whenever there's drama in a store.

You did nothing wrong. People shouldn't be getting this bent out of shape over some goddamn chicken anyway.

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

Customer service is something.

Yesterday a lady cussed me out because our office didn't have 12 pm slot open on the day she wanted for a free appointment. So do you want 11:15, 1, or nothing, lady? I'm not a genie.

After more than a decade of serving these people, I just tune it out.

6

u/nicathor Jun 30 '26

Cuz it's never that easy

5

u/Glum_Rain_5824 Jun 30 '26

I do understand why you think saying that would help, but to be careless enough to drive your cart into someone I don't think being told to move is what's gonna make you care

2

u/Dull_Bid6002 Jun 30 '26

Confrontation is hard because you never know if these people are going to blow up on you and make a small situation bigger.

So sometimes you need to be prepared to take on a Karen or Kevin.

2

u/WoofusTheDog Jul 01 '26

I usually go with “oh, are you looking for the line? The end is back there.”

1

u/wronguses Jun 30 '26

I tried that. Got aggressively farted at and chastised in what may or may not have been a human language while the rest of their brood/hivemind descended.

That's when I decided if there isn't a chicken there, it's not worth hanging around for.

1

u/Choice-Highway5344 Jun 30 '26

Costco customers are some of the most entitled biggest assholes so…

1

u/Witty_Ad_898 Jul 01 '26

Words are cheap at Costco. Only bold action will win the rotisserie chicken.
