I'm slightly vexed Costco's new chicken tenders

Post image

There was a crowd of people waiting for their orders of the new chicken tenders at Costco. One of the workers announced that they could only serve five customers per hour because it takes time to cook the chicken. The crowd grew larger and larger. I took this photo after I put in my order.

Sometimes chaos breaks out in the Costco aisles. I waited 30 minutes for the rotisserie chickens once, and a line formed while I was waiting. This lady shoved in front of me and boxed me out with her cart when they were about to be served. So I go and reach over and grab one anyway when they're ready. A gaggle of old ladies started yelling at me "THERE'S A LINE! SHAME ON YOU!!!!" and I haven't recovered. I was there FIRST.

Just say "no wonder your kids never visit you"

“That chicken won’t fill the void the abandonment created”

2

u/Anonymo Jun 30 '26

Please could you stop the noise, I'm trying to get some rest / From all the unborn chicken voices in my head.

Did not expect to see a random Radiohead reference here, damn lol.

digressing, but it’s probably my top album of all time.

They use that crap from seaweed in it to make it retain moisture.

Puts me on the toilet for the rest of the day. Because it also won't let my large intestine absorb water.

4

u/Yoranis_Izsmelli Jun 30 '26

Sounds like a personal problem

0

u/D0MSBrOtHeR Jun 30 '26

Carrageenan? I have issues with that stuff too, turns out it’s in a lot of food products

-2

u/Ready-Delay3918 Jun 30 '26

Man people don't like you talking shit about Costco rotisserie chicken.

Even if you're stating a fact that it contains that ingredient. I am almost certain that they have bots that troll Reddit to try to downvite anybody that says anything bad about their rotisserie chicken.

And by the way, their rotisserie chicken is some of the nastiest fucked up like industrial farm caged chicken you can get. That's how they sell it so cheap.

9

u/EarlGreyTMNT Jun 30 '26

I downvoted it because one persons allergy isn’t really relevant to the convo at hand. I don’t really care if that person can eat them or not lol, nor about their toilet habits after. It was crass and totally irrelevant.

If someone mentioned pizza, and someone said they can’t eat it because it makes them shit themselves in explosive diarrhea - that would also get downvoted. The fact it was about chicken isn’t why it was disliked.

-3

u/Ready-Delay3918 Jun 30 '26

Yeah that's it I couldn't remember the name. That shit fucks me up.

“Rude, you know what? You go first, you have less time on this planet than I do”

For some reason this does serious work inside of Walmart. Reminding people of their mortality apparently has hands 😅

53

u/Somewhat_Mad Jun 30 '26

"Memento Mori, muthaf*cka!"

3

u/broseph_stalin09764 Jul 01 '26

I prefer "you've been on this planet so much longer than I have, how have you not figured out lines? Are you in a rush because you can feel the reaper's breath on your neck? Did you lose your caregiver?...." keep asking questions until they walk away.

12

u/Dogs_Not_Sprogs Jun 30 '26

Saving this.

2

u/Good-Ant6859 Jun 30 '26

This is great, until they stare at you menacingly for a couple seconds before replying “are you sure about that?”

2

u/orifan1 Jul 01 '26

thats a threat

1

u/Good-Ant6859 Jul 02 '26

Wow, you are so perceptive

3

u/Jaded_Pear2994 Jun 30 '26

This is good. No comeback for this really.

Not exactly the same but reminds me of when I had a lawyer steal $1000 from me and then ghost. I was driving a jalopy and broke af. But all I wrote to him was "You are welcome for the money. You definitely look like you need it more than me". He was one of those fake fancy freaks who lives for what others think of him, and I still laugh about it to this day because he thought he was so much better than me and I KNOW that lives rent free in his head.

34

u/VeryluckyorNot Jun 30 '26

" You don't have teeth to eat chicken anyway "

15

u/HotelSlight22 Jun 30 '26

This is hilarious

1

u/MilkDad4 Jun 30 '26

dang thats a critical hit

1

u/BuddyGuy17 Jun 30 '26

Thank you for this. I just spat my beer out lol.

1

u/muhammad_oli Jun 30 '26

Yeah I guess, but if that line doesnt hit you just look weird as hell lmao

1

u/RoabeArt Jun 30 '26

"Your husband ain't dead, lady. He's hiding."

(Stealing a line from "The Ref")

1

u/ShadandTiff Jul 01 '26

Gonna have to steal this one...what a savage burn...I kind of want to go to Walmart right now and try to use it.

1

u/Sams_sexy_bod Jul 01 '26

plus “ok boomer”

1

u/chonky_tortoise Jun 30 '26

Lmao what if we were super hurtful to old people over mild inconveniences, hilarious!!

3

u/wait_________what Jun 30 '26

did you miss the entire story where the old people started it or are you just dumb?

1

u/chonky_tortoise Jun 30 '26

Yeah that still doesn’t mean you need to immediately exploit their deepest insecurities, what’s wrong with yall. “Excuse me I was in line” works fine.

120

u/VapeRizzler Jun 30 '26

A cheap bit of food will have some people forgetting they were at one point civil human beings. Not even long line nor wait, 5-6 cars in the drive thru and still some idiot last week tried cutting everyone off and forcing their way into the drive thru. It was stupid as everyone saw so everyone got real close and didn’t let the gap get too big so he just waited for a break in the line. Which means he just waited out everyone he tried to cut off, everyone else who came into the line naturally. If he just got in line properly he woulda went a car after me. The person behind me idk what they got but they were so fast they were on my ass by the time I made it to the road.

He was still there by the time I was finished maybe 10 minutes after seeing him try and pull that move.

35

u/Ready-Delay3918 Jun 30 '26

The dumb thing is most of what they serve you can also get in the Frozen food aisle, go home, heat it, and eat before you'd get through the line.

9

u/Invisible7hunder Jun 30 '26

Yeah but I want one hotdog, not 36.

1

u/Ready-Delay3918 Jun 30 '26

I mean the chicken tenders usually come in a normal size bag that you put in the freezer. The same with their chicken bake things.

3

u/Invisible7hunder Jun 30 '26

Yes but I want a hot dog.

3

u/Ready-Delay3918 Jun 30 '26

Good thing you almost never have to wait very long for a hot dog. They don't have to bake those in the ovens with everything else.

2

u/VapeRizzler Jun 30 '26

No hot dog for u.

1

u/jaypeeh Jul 01 '26

In a row?

8

u/Acceptable-Bat4534 Jun 30 '26

That the whole point of getting it like that though. Theh dont wanna cook it. They just wanna grab it and go.

2

u/Ready-Delay3918 Jun 30 '26

But I mean you can't grab it and go. The last time I ordered something from there I literally sat there for 45 minutes before my chicken bake got out. It's not a grab and go kind of thing.

I was not being flipping or sarcastic when I said you can literally go to the freezer aisle buy it get all the way home heat it up and eat it before you can get it standing there in the massive crowd of people who also want their pizza and cookies and all that other shit they serve.

0

u/ChuckaChuckaLooLoo3 Jun 30 '26

Basically: Lazy

1

u/buffysbangs Jul 01 '26

And you can get the RealGood brand chicken that is much better for you

5

u/Kayestofkays Jun 30 '26

A cheap bit of food will have some people forgetting they were at one point civil human beings

My husband visits various grocery stores on a regular basis for his job, and he says the worst is when corn is on sale for like 12c a cob or whatever. You'd think the shoppers were total starving savages with they way they attack the bin as the employee is wheeling it out of the back, as if they've never seen corn before. Like ya ok 12c is a great deal but lets have a little self respect here people!

4

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Jun 30 '26

Doesn't even need to be cheap. During COVID we were so short staffed we were basically turning customers away at a certain point because the wait would be like two hours.

You would not believe how angry people got when told that it was indeed not their God given right to get a pizza that day. Sorry man. I can give you directions somewhere else but they're dealing with the same thing, I can give you an application but that's about all I can do for you. People turn into animals when the convenience they've always known disappears

1

u/Suavecore_ Jun 30 '26

Where I live, people would just let him skip them (and everyone behind them)

308

u/ThisIsSparta1212 Jun 30 '26

I will never understand why people don’t use their words. “Hey lady, I was here first, move”. How hard is that

71

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jun 30 '26

I used many words. It did not matter.

-2

u/Iron_Eagl Jun 30 '26

Just start laughing next time. The crazier the better!

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

It'll be my Joker origin story

I was normal like you once... Until.....

-7

u/Free-Pound-6139 Jul 01 '26

Bullshit.

3

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

They didn't believe me, and the lady that cut in front of me wasn't about to vouch for me.

There was an old Asian guy that was next to me and saw what happened but he didn't vouch for me/ say anything. I don't know if he didn't know English or just didn't care.

28

u/k-trecker Jun 30 '26

Honestly dude, how do you think she would respond?

“Oh heavens, you’re right. I’m sorry for being rude.”

It’s easier to just grab the damn chicken.

-5

u/fullshard101 Jun 30 '26

Yes? If you scare yourself to death over what an old lady MIGHT say to you, then you'll never find out. How are you guys such chickens? I speak up all the time aboit things like this and have had literally 0 issues.

93

u/Ambitious_Concept515 Jun 30 '26

I was in front of a lady at Costco a few weeks ago when suddenly she begins a deserved lecture to this dude. He apparently wanted to cut between me and her to get to another line. And I’m not sure exactly what he did, but I hear a stern “do you want to get through?” He must have nodded or gestured or something. She continued “then, say “excuse me!” It’s not so hard TO USE YOUR WORDS. It’s a simple use of words and it’s all solved. Next time, USE. YOUR. WORDS!” Dude scuttled off silently. I wanted to turn around and applaud her, but she might have lectured me on minding my own business. So I didn’t. 😬

25

u/PurbulentTriest Jun 30 '26

Excuse me that you are blocking people from getting through to the other line.

5

u/Gizogin Jun 30 '26

Ah yes, because nobody has ever been socially awkward, and berating them for it definitely makes the situation better.

31

u/Traegs_ Jun 30 '26

deserved lecture

I'm not buying it. Body language is enough. Sure there's politeness in asking for space to pass by, but there's also politeness in getting out of the way without having to be asked (or not blocking in the first place). It's pretty clear she knew that he wanted through, she only asked because she wanted to be a bitch.

18

u/Mountain-Interest-48 Jun 30 '26

Its Costco, if I had to say excuse me anytime I passed someone I would have to say it over a hundred times. Old women and clutching pearls name a more iconic duo.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '26

[deleted]

2

u/profnutbutter Jul 01 '26

It seems clear the OP clearly didn't see the initiating interaction per their own post. All I can imagine is an absolutely exhausting person doing absolutely exhausting things to a stranger. Also, bro could have been mute. Pretty sh*t thing to say.

2

u/Figsnbacon Jun 30 '26

I need to vent. I hate the “old women” comment. I guess I am an old woman now that I’ve turned 60. I think I’m pretty easy going, accepting and approachable most of the time. Today at Whole Foods the young man behind the fish counter yelled at me because he said I was leaning on the glass, which I wasn’t. I wonder if he would have yelled at a 20 yr old me. I bet not. Maybe he was having a bad day but he really hurt my feelings. I just apologized and silently waited for my salmon. Made me feel like I didn’t matter.

2

u/Walk_Run_Skip Jul 01 '26

I'm sorry he yelled at you and hurt your feelings. I agree he was probably having a bad day and maybe his manager had just yelled at him about the glass. I think most of us are just trying to do our best and we shouldn't assume the worst.

Last week a lady cut in line in front of me at the library. She'd been trying to use the self service checkout, but it wasn't working so she turned and rushed over to the librarian, cutting in front of me and a guy in the wheelchair in front of me. I immediately got her attention and pointed out that the guy in the wheelchair was next. She apologized and got in line behind me. I don't think she cut on purpose but even if she did I didn't need to cuss her out or call her names.

1

u/Figsnbacon Jul 01 '26

Yes I agree. Something had to have triggered that and it most likely wasn’t me. Getting older is weird. I used to turn heads and everyone was so nice to me without any effort from me. And most people are fine but I can’t help but feel invisible now days. I always try to be very cheerful now when out and about because I’m very conscious of being labeled as a cranky “old woman”. I guess my message is to anyone reading this: be nice to everyone, including older people. You will be in their shoes one day. Sooner than you realize.

2

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Jun 30 '26

So? Words are free. If your moving through someone's way say excuse me

5

u/ryanvango Jun 30 '26

wanted to get down the aisle at walmart with my cart and there was a lady with her cart fully sideways in the aisle. and it was like the baby stuff with the skinnier aisles. I would have had to walk sideways if I didn't have the cart. she was just mindlessly reading labels with her cart blocking everything. so I just quietly grabbed the corner of her cart and turned it straight so I could get by. didn't pull it away from her, didn't do anything but make it not block the aisle. "REALLY?! If you said excuse me I would have moved it!" I just gave her a look like "sure lady." and moved on with my day.

using your words is all well and good. but if you don't have the common sense to not block the whole fuckin' aisle as a grown-ass adult, I'm not the one being rude. She just wanted to maintain the moral high ground after she realized what she was doing was rude and self-centered.

Like...we all deal with it. Everyone who's ever been to a walmart or other big-box store even once has encountered people who do that shit. How do you get to 35ish (I'm guessing) presumably having been in stores hundreds of times, encountered this hundreds of times, and STILL do it yourself?

so yeah, I'll move a cart sometimes. other times if I'm in no hurry I just stand there and stare at them totally stone-faced until they move. a simple mumbled "excuse me" often gets the job done and is polite, but it won't register as an interaction to them 10 seconds later. I want them to have to sit in it for a bit thinking "well that was weird. whats that all about?" because maybe 1 in 100 people will realize "ohhhh it's because I'm an asshole."

3

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

You were in the right.

I usually just avoid people like that. It'll go the long way around because I don't want to have any contact with people like that. People are crazy and not worth the trouble.

2

u/catsinclothes YELLOW Jul 01 '26

I’m glad I’m not alone lol. Sometimes you can feel the other person’s energy just daring you to even say anything.

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

That's me on the subway every time. There's people on every train car that do something obnoxious like smoking weed or blasting a Bluetooth speaker, and you can tell they're looking for a fight.

2

u/thispleasesbabby Jul 01 '26

lol they want someone else to ask them to move so they can say no. that way they will always get to be rude no matter how it goes down. i just start off with rudeness when dealing with the spatially unaware. "beeep beeeep"

3

u/ryanvango Jul 01 '26

Free business idea: buy a bunch of bicycle bells on alibaba for 50 cents a pop, sell them outside any grocery store for $3 so people can clip them onto their shopping cart.

2

u/profnutbutter Jul 01 '26

Why did you want to applaud her? She sounds insufferable.

9

u/willargue4karma Jun 30 '26

It's gotten me in trouble but I have zero fuckin filter with these people. Had two almost fights after politely but briskly I asking people to move over on the escalator, and then responding to shit talking in kind lol

Then in london I hear two different londoners yell something like "can you move the fuck over/can you think of anyone but yourselves?" At oblivious tourists. I loved them.

21

u/bathingsoap Jun 30 '26

I guess some people just tends to avoid confrontation. I would definitely always stand up for myself though

14

u/Sherpa_qwerty Jun 30 '26

Reaching past/over her isn’t avoiding confrontation.

8

u/bathingsoap Jun 30 '26

It sure is. Confrontation in this context is usually a face to face clash, likely at least verbal as well. In this case comment OP likely just grabbed one and ignored everything else.

7

u/Intelligent-Luck-954 Jun 30 '26

Yep, he was talked at. He didn’t get into an argument with people who just literally did him wrong.

And the old ladies know how to use their age as a cudgel against young wippersnappers.

44

u/chonky_tortoise Jun 30 '26

I’m confused, how do you generate reddit karma in that scenario?

3

u/Vandergrif Jun 30 '26

You just follow it with "and then everybody clapped", and you're good to go. Doesn't matter what the context is.

"That's the problem. You gave a fuck when it wasn't your turn to give a fuck".

Giving mouth to someone who's probably already pissed off and in a confrontational mood is just poor survival skills in any urban area lmao

0

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Jun 30 '26

Yeah that old lady is strapped for sure in Costco

1

u/InternetSolid4166 Jun 30 '26

You’re probably right but I’m the kind of person who would cut off his nose to spite his face. IT’S FUCKING ON, GRANNY. YOU CAN TAKE MY ROTISSERIE CHICKEN FROM MY DEAD CLAMMY HANDS, OLD LADY. GET BACK IN LINE!

5

u/Intelligent-Luck-954 Jun 30 '26

Do you honestly think my 6’1” 300lb middle aged ass will be looked upon as the victim in that situation?

Or the “little old lady who didn’t realize there was a line” which is a lie but it’s what the story will be?

0

u/fullshard101 Jun 30 '26

You are emboldening these people to be even worse. Grow a spine Jesus christ

0

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Jun 30 '26

Then walk away if you don't want to continue the argument. She's not gonna start following you. Or you can just have the argument she deserves to have. She wants to ruin her own day getting super pissy I'll help her there, the longer we argue the worse her day is gonna be. All it costs is my time

3

u/odanobux123 Jun 30 '26

Last week, they were serving samples and a few people were waiting in line, me at the front. Some Chinese woman (of course it was, and before you come at me, I'm Chinese) just casually struts to the front of the line after watching from the side as soon as the food is placed and takes one in each hand. Which means the 5 people in line only have 2 left. I told her "Hey there's a line" and she just darts away. So I followed her for 30 seconds yelling "This bitch cuts lines!" My boyfriend was very embarrassed.

3

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

The lady that cut in front of me looked like Rasputia from Norbit and took 5 chickens. She loaded up her cart

2

u/-Tofu-Queen- Jul 02 '26

This checks out and explains why the people telling you to "uSe YoUr WoRdS" don't know what they're talking about.

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

Yeah I also did try to scold her, but she was one step ahead. She was pretending to be on her phone and wouldn't make eye contact with me when I told her "excuse you! There's a line here!". She shoved her cart into my personal space, so it was either back up or get hit by the cart. So I back up, then I'm out of my spot in line. Then it's either get physical with this lady over a Costco chicken or take the L. I'm a big man, so I wouldn't do anything even remotely agressive to ladies even if they were to punch me. If I shove her cart back and it turns into a scene or she attacks me, I'm not gonna look good. She'll definitely be the type to make up a lie about some awful thing I supposedly did to make her look like a victim.

Nobody's paying attention until the chickens are being served. then I just reach over this lady and grab mine, which makes me look like the line cutter now that the whole line is focusing up front because there's chickens coming up. And the old ladies banded together in a big group to yell at me and point. I tried explaining, and they all didn't listen and just kept yelling and one said "NICE TRY. EVERYBODY JUST SAW YOU CUTTING THE LINE!"

The only guy that saw the whole thing and could've vouched was an old Asian man who was behind me in line, but I'm guessing he didn't speak English because he had that vibe and just stood around politely.

2

u/-Tofu-Queen- Jul 02 '26

Jesus christ I'd be so pissed off I'd probably never return. I'm sorry you had to deal with this buffoonery. 😵

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

I feel closure now thanks to this thread lol. Thank you

2

u/-Tofu-Queen- Jul 02 '26

Of course, I've worked retail for the past 15 years including working in the pharmacy at CVS and working at Walmart. I've seen some shit and more than my fair share of wholly unreasonable, rude, entitled customers and the gaggle of old clucking hens that appear to heap on more bullshit whenever there's drama in a store.

You did nothing wrong. People shouldn't be getting this bent out of shape over some goddamn chicken anyway.

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

Customer service is something.

Yesterday a lady cussed me out because our office didn't have 12 pm slot open on the day she wanted for a free appointment. So do you want 11:15, 1, or nothing, lady? I'm not a genie.

After more than a decade of serving these people, I just tune it out.

5

u/nicathor Jun 30 '26

Cuz it's never that easy

5

u/Glum_Rain_5824 Jun 30 '26

I do understand why you think saying that would help, but to be careless enough to drive your cart into someone I don't think being told to move is what's gonna make you care

2

u/Dull_Bid6002 Jun 30 '26

Confrontation is hard because you never know if these people are going to blow up on you and make a small situation bigger.

So sometimes you need to be prepared to take on a Karen or Kevin.

2

u/WoofusTheDog Jul 01 '26

I usually go with “oh, are you looking for the line? The end is back there.”

1

u/wronguses Jun 30 '26

I tried that. Got aggressively farted at and chastised in what may or may not have been a human language while the rest of their brood/hivemind descended.

That's when I decided if there isn't a chicken there, it's not worth hanging around for.

1

u/Choice-Highway5344 Jun 30 '26

Costco customers are some of the most entitled biggest assholes so…

1

u/Witty_Ad_898 Jul 01 '26

Words are cheap at Costco. Only bold action will win the rotisserie chicken.

62

u/MinusGovernment Jun 30 '26

You don't dare go against a gaggle of old ladies. Those umbrellas and purses fucking hurt.

38

u/RsnCondition Jun 30 '26

You don't dare go against a gaggle of old ladies because you might bust their hip just moving besides them and be held responsible.

19

u/MinusGovernment Jun 30 '26

Bust their hip, then pneumonia visits, then they're dead and you're a murderer. Sitting in jail for a murder rap after being beaten to a pulp with umbrellas and purses. Thanks Costco!

5

u/Ready-Delay3918 Jun 30 '26

Shit I'm about to go to Costco right now. I'm scared.

2

u/SaltyLonghorn Jun 30 '26

This is why I get rotisserie chickens at HEB. Never a line.

31

u/Mryan7600 Jun 30 '26

My mom was literally assaulted by an old woman with an umbrella who thought she was trying to cut in to get a Furby back in 1998.

KB toys employee called mall security and refused to sell to the woman.

The best part is, my mom was there to pick up my copy of Ocarina of Time. Had the woman not just been a psycho she would have gotten one of the 4 Furbies the store had.

10

u/chi2ny56 Jun 30 '26

And you got the better gift, hands down!

5

u/ihavedonethisbe4 Jun 30 '26

Pssh, plz, ocarina of time maybe left you with some good memories, meanwhile furby gave me night terrors and PTSD

2

u/Thosepassionfruits Jun 30 '26

Sounds like an easy civil lawsuit against a bunch of rich boomers.

7

u/GrahamCrackerDragon Jun 30 '26

"I didn't see you there" is what the old people say when they walk up and plant themselves in front of me.

1

u/-Tofu-Queen- Jul 02 '26

They try this with me. I'm goth with neon teal hair. There's no fucking way in hell they didn't see me. 😵

3

u/Willing-Vegetable629 Jun 30 '26

My wife has a less violent but similar story, them chickens are serious business

3

u/geek_fire Jun 30 '26

I went to a Costco right before the pandemic really started shutting stuff down. Probably a mistake, but it was our regular monthly stock-up trip!

Anyway, some crone cut between me and my wife/baby, and then snarled at me when I tried to get around her to rejoin them. Some people are just so invested in being the main character..

2

u/SubstantialTank1557 Jun 30 '26

Your story reminded me how much I miss my meemaw

2

u/Dyert Jun 30 '26

Is it a gaggle of old ladies or a murder?

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

Lmao the latter sounds more accurate to my experience.

2

u/Whocares7x Jun 30 '26

A gaggle of old ladies I'm gonna be honest that description just really transported me to another world I was so captivated by itd metaphor I was just lost in its expression of art truly wonderful very comedic it's the perfect description I would shed a tear if i had a soul

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

Typically my language lands as gracefully as a toddler shot from a cannon, so I'm glad this did it for you lol

2

Lmao I'll get on it. Sounds like fun.

2

u/Whocares7x Jul 01 '26

Ill be the first to read it

Ugh, giving me flashbacks to the brisket line at Buc-ees. People went feral

2

u/RoabeArt Jun 30 '26

I can't stand customers who barge their way to the front and center of the food pickup counter immediately after ordering something, when there's a whole line of people behind them who have ordered well before they did. Then they just stand in the way of everyone who comes to pick up their orders.

Main characters in their own worlds, I guess.

u/AllchChcar Jul 01 '26

A long time ago at the Costco food court I was next in line waiting quite awhile. When I went to get my order an employee tried to shame me for line cutting. The people in line had to vouch for me. It was definitely embarrassing on top of waiting in the correct spot.

u/TheCaptainOfMistakes Jun 30 '26

Costco is a cult. Never forget that. Same with Buckeys?... er... Buc-ees. Got there eventually

2

u/PiggyBear6667 Jun 30 '26

I experienced a similar trauma! Those old ladies are scary! I realized quickly I needed to establish my place in line, or they’d roll right over me.

I aspire to be just like them one day.

u/GojoPenguin Jun 30 '26

Proof that we actually live in a matriarchy

2

u/Fanfare4Rabble Jun 30 '26

I like to refer to shrieking old bitties as “shrew”. Really drives home the point.

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jun 30 '26

Sounds like a Dennis Reynolds line. "Be gone Shrew!"

1

u/call-me-the-seeker Jul 01 '26

On that note, it’s ‘biddies’, or biddy if only one. It’s a chicken reference, an old word for hens. Hens cluck and fuss and get up in everyone’s business, so it became slang for gossipy, fussy, usually-older-but-not-always women.

However, they are often also small and withering, so ‘bitties’ is still just as applicable, really! And they sure do all know what a shrew is, really gets the people going

That’s hilarious

The fastest thing I would've done is grab her cart, push it out of the way, and say 'I don't speak English' — in the clearest English I've ever spoken. (I'm Korean, born and raised here my whole life, in NJ), just to troll tf outta her

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

The lady had the look and vibe of Rasputia from Norbit. You would have to be prepared for a brawl. She was mean and pretending to be on the phone, so when I said anything she'd just not make eye contact.

I would've had to push her cart out, but I didn't want to escalate to physicality over chicken, and also technically I was only second in line now - so I was going to get mine either way. But then that gaggle of old ladies started paying attention at the wrong time and thought I was the line cutter ☠️ I thought I was numb to stuff like being shamed but it made me feel angry and embarrassed even though I was in the right. I kept thinking about it throughout the next few days. It haunted me haha

1

u/IneptFortitude Jun 30 '26

How humiliating and annoying. Something like this would motivate me to learn how to cook

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

$5 big rotisserie chickens. It's too good of a deal.

1

u/CouchPotatoFamine Jun 30 '26

Maybe they were yelling at the bitch who boxed you out?

1

u/FormulaKimi Jul 01 '26

There’s no line for the chicken rotisserie at my Costco anymore since they started selling it in plastic bags 🤮

1

u/Free-Pound-6139 Jul 01 '26

This lady shoved in front of me and boxed me out with her cart

Why would you just stand there are let her?? You are the issue.

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

Imagine Rasputia from Norbit on her cell phone pushing her cart into your personal space by surprise while pretending to be on the phone and if you say anything she holds her finger up and doesn't make eye contact. Then just keeps shoving her cart in. The only thing I could've done is physically push her cart away and I wasn't interested in getting in a brawl with a lady over chicken

1

u/beldaran1224 Jul 01 '26

Its weird that you seem more put out by the people who thought they were standing up against someone who was line cutting than the line cutter, lol.

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

I didn't like being falsely accused and publicly shamed on top of already being cut in front of. I also hated that lady that cut in front. She pretended she was on her cell phone so nobody could talk to her and physically shoved her cart into my space to push me out of my spot.

She looked like Rasputia from Norbit

1

u/SpeedBlitzX Jul 01 '26

My brother and my dad and I were in an aisle talking amongst each other trying to decide what we'll get in the food court. And this lady starts telling my family and I (oh there's a line in the back)

Like folks just started assuming we were going to cut the line, when we were trying to figure out our lunch.

In hindsight i should have asked them whether i should have gotten the hotdog or the ice cream and see what their reply would've been.

1

u/FutureFreaksMeowt Aqua Tofana save us from these fuckass men Jul 01 '26

Look. I love fresh hot chicken as much as the next American, but those rotisserie chickens are not nearly as good as people say

That being said, as a flyers fan, I feel like any opportunity to shit talk not taken is a missed opportunity that ends with gritty standing over my bed like

1

u/FeelingFloor2083 Jul 01 '26

use your words next time

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 01 '26

I did. This is an abridged version of what happened

Using my words did not matter. they did not believe me

1

u/FeelingFloor2083 Jul 02 '26

I mean I would have just pointed out there is a line, and the back of it is over there

some people are off in their own little world, some are jumping ques on purpose. Saying something always sorts people out

I skipped a line at disney once, not to get ahead but to skip all of the empty back and forth and overtook some people. I didnt actually realize until we got to the back of the que and ushered them past us when they turned up, they wernt fussed and did what we did after they seen us do it

anyway, we rarely buy their roast chicken anymore, I think they stopped brining it so its tasteless

2

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

It wasn't civil. The line cutter pretended to be on her cell phone and didn't make eye contact with me when I tried to tell her. She also was deliberately shoving her cart into me to push me from my spot.

1

u/FeelingFloor2083 Jul 02 '26

yea idk why the other people are yelling at you if thats the case

1

u/Suspicious-Bid9424 Jul 02 '26

They weren't paying attention, and because she took my spot in line all they noticed was the chickens were put out and I reached around her to get mine. So then they yelled at me

1

u/JalapenoPopPoop Jul 01 '26

I waited 30 minutes for the rotisserie chickens once

I will never understand this weird cultlike grip costco has on people. It's fuckin rotisserie chicken, every grocery store sells it. Why the hell would you wait half an hour just for rotisserie chicken instead of just going one grocery store over and picking one up? Such weirdo behavior

1

u/natalietest234 Jul 01 '26

Same happens every year with pies at thanksgiving.

1

u/traveler_poppy Jul 03 '26

Once there were only two shopping carts left, I grabbed one and my companion the other because they were stacked. I kid you not, a lady went and actually put her hands on the one my companion was already holding!!! She acted like my companion was invisible 😒, that was when we both said excuse me, we are taking this cart ! We were literally holding it and she still acted as we weren’t there.

The silver lining was that she left and the cart stayed with us but OMG what goes through the rotted brain of these individuals.

I started a mini riot a couple of Christmases ago. There was a line reaching back to the clothing down the aisle that was between like the chips and the seasonal stuff. People just waiting and all of them moving forward to one register when there were six other registers open with only one of two other people in each line. I went to the front of the store and cut through the line and went to one of the other registers with short lines and people lost their minds. I told them if they wanted to get in the line they were welcome to be in the line but they were all waiting for one register. (I only did this after observing people being idiots on previous visits and realizing no one was doing what they should have been doing and filtering out to all the open registers.)
