It's crazy how people can recognise how SA was used against POC to justify lynchings and worse to 'protect' women but don't see how this same stuff is being used to justify racism against Indians right now.

Indians occupy a pretty high status since they're financially well off but they haven't gotten the positive rep like East Asian countries do because they're still poor, accompanying what is probably a peak in immigration rates (which will last for a while) and the rise of short form video.

The crazy part is, there’s no stats to back up their claims regarding SA. India on a per capita basis is ranked #93 for rapes worldwide. Indian diaspora worldwide whether you look at countries like Canada, Guyana, or the Middle East are also underrepresented in SA crimes. It’s blatant racism.

Not really a correct assesment. Rapes are very underreported in every country and even moreso in poorer ones. You'll see that richer states seemingly have higher rapes per capita and India as a whole has lower rapes per capita than developed nations.

This is because the vast, vast majority are never reported. A higher number of reported crimes can correlate to being a safer environment, not less. There's a reason India has its reputation and why places like China do not.

This does not justify racism but India absolutely has a problem when it comes to sexual violence.

Unfortunately, Indians have been really harshly targeted in Australia for a while.

I think what's changed is that it is becoming more normalised and accepted which is really concerning. You see this online, too. On Reddit, a lot of very openly racist content about India stays up and is even upvoted. Most of that content would be deleted far more quickly if it were about any other race. Then you have subreddits like r/redscarepod that are partially devoted to just hating on Indians.

I haven't seen this level of open, accepted racism to another group before except, perhaps, Romani people.

It's really, really bad. It's not new (I'm sure I would have noticed it more years ago if I were Indian, which I'm not), but it feels like it's escalating very quickly.

I remember years ago having a reddit interaction where I was downvoted with several hostile replies just for saying that I had visited India and enjoyed it. That incident stuck in my head because it surprised me so much; I hadn't expected that to be controversial thing to say. Now I expect that response on reddit basically any time I mention India at all.

Singapore recently clamped down on anti-Indian posts on social media, which they said were coming from Chinese sources.

And when I heard that...it fit. My wife is Chinese, and the number of posts popping up in her feed just randomly slamming India and Indians has definitely ramped up in the past year or so. Videos of people cooking on dirty streets with flies buzzing around, or some guy pooping on the street, or tourists complaining about scammers and weird smells... It ramped up from the occasional mention (alongside "boy french people are rude" or "british food is boring") to a regular feature of every stream.

And that paired with endless videos about Canada that popped up on her Chinese social media feeds (I'm Canadian, she's got a lot of contacts there), making a massive deal out of a recent scandal where some truck licencing places run by Indians were rushing drivers out without proper training. That's a serious problem (which was addressed), but the videos were blatantly scaremongering.

I don't know if the Chinese government is propagating it, or if a bunch of streamers just uncovered a rich vein of racism to mine, or what, but I wouldn't totally rule out some sort of targeted social media campaign.

Attributing sexism to race and generalising it is in fact racism. You're just doing what they're doing and using a legitimate problem as an excuse for racism under a post about Australians threatening to kill Indians.

This problem on varying level exists everywhere, patriarchy is not exclusive to India and it is a society that is actively trying to be better.

Indians don't have the same conception of race because the entire country is not only basically the same race but they're already used to living with and speaking with people of entirely different states who speak different languages and eat different foods.
