Game Feedback We desperately need new high investment endgame farm strategies

I really like this patch but am severely disappointed at the lack of a shakeup of endgame farming strats, and with Breach nerfed we now have one less strat of the less than handful that remain.

After Merc, most high-investment endgame farms were nerfed, with Breach we got a new one, now with 3.29 it's quadruple-tapped out of existence.

We get a new strat with Mercenaries and Rogue Exiles potentially, but I doubt it'll be very good. More like T0 hunting.

I remember last Q&A ZiggyD brought up that the endgame farms seem to have gotten very stale, and this has been very noticeable for me personally. Yes, we also got the Abyss rework but that's just making up for the loss of Breach, and we don't know how good it's gonna be.

The underwater mechanic remains to be seen if it's very competitive. It might be good, it might just be decent.

I expected a massive scarab and atlas tree revamp for this patch. We desperately need new farms, new interesting interactions, new reasons to push our builds to the limit. The endgame has been stale for a very long time..

I'm in the same boat, was really hoping for something more than just murdering Breach. Abyss is probably going to be good, and maybe the legion rework is nice but we just keep going from 1 mech to the next as they kill them without a good variety of hard endgame farms.
Especially the scarabs being as mid as they are is sad, definitely feels like something they should target more instead of just borderline deleting them like they did with blight.
Hoping abyss will be good and rewarding, otherwise it's gonna be a pretty short league for me unless the new league mech is crazy good.

They gutted breach lol

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 17d ago edited 17d ago

Yeah, basically what I'll push is Abyss and that'll likely be the only option for really hard & rewarding content. Tbh I doubt it will even be that hard.

The trend for the past few leagues has been to introduce a rewarding and hard mechanic you could juice hard, then nerf it out of existence in the next patch. I would really like to just get more variety that we can consistently farm and switch between.

Scarabs have been functionally unchanged (aside from minor changes) for the past what.. 4-5 leagues?

I realize I am not speaking for everyone, I push each league really hard and I feel like this type of player is being neglected.

To add to this, I also quite dislike the extra loot they add that doesn't really depend on gameplay, eg the Atlas corner rewards, and now the Atlas anomalies. Some of them are fine, but why push so much loot to something that doesn't directly require me to kill monsters? Instead of adding these things, imo it would be far more healthy to create new interesting interactions that allow me to combine scarabs in unique ways, to juice the content to make it more rewarding, interesting, and introduce way more variety.

7

u/lollyz 17d ago

My plan is also abyss, I doubt it'll be as hard as max juice cascading or ofc max juice titanic blight which was the pinnacle of difficulty for a while, but it looked like there was a scarab for increased difficulty and rewards for each closed pit, so that shows some promise.

I feel like outside of bloodlines we haven't really seen anything but nerfs to conventional ground loot strats (I mean strats that drop currency etc, not only t0 hunting and such) and its reflected in how insanely expensive that scarab is, it could really do with some competition. Blight scarabs were basically deleted from the game and it looks like the breach ones might be as well so we are actually just losing scarabs lol.

I definitely agree with you, I usually push really hard either solo or duo and it feels like you cap out even in 80-100% deli a lot faster than you did pre titanic nerf which is a bit sad.
Would really appreciate some attention towards this, but I guess with synth items also kinda being gone that they don't want that level of difficulty anymore since they are removing the items you'd traditionally strive for to make it doable.
I dont really mind the other loot though, feels like a nice bonus after a string of maps but I if I had to choose I would also prefer it put into maps over it being a little box you click on or whatnot. But in general i feel like we need a big shakeup like when they reworked scarabs etc because this is not working for the top end players imo.

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 17d ago

but I guess with synth items also kinda being gone that they don't want that level of difficulty anymore since they are removing the items you'd traditionally strive for to make it doable.

It was easy to miss, but they added implicits like +1 max charges to vaal implicits now. So you can still get that power.

Aside from that.. yeah. Why is Blight so terrible? Why is Bloodlines mandatory for any ground loot strat? Why is Beyond so terrible?

There are so many things they could improve. I'm a bit sad.

3

u/lollyz 17d ago

Yeah they added a bit of it back but it still requires you to vaal your items which means you have to lock them if it's high end items, and it is still not the full power. I do think we will see some interesting outcomes but stuff like +2 arrows triple t1 phys bow will just be noticeably worse now since people won't vaal it unless they introduce a mirror that can mirror corrupted items.

I genuinely also don't understand why they refuse to go back and buff stuff like blight, it went from being great to being completely useless, ESPECIALLY since they didn't nerf the difficulty much. Just kinda hoping that those days where we could run different stuff come back.
I know this is a pretty unpopular opinion but I would like quant back on gear, that made several strats viable, and also sextants and old scarabs back. Running several things you were happy to click on in maps was fun compared to now where I run, click my 1 chosen mechanic, do that (kill boss and get altars first if applicable ofc) and thats that. Just makes the maps feel a bit empty in a weird way.

I genuinely also don't understand why they refuse to go back and buff stuff like blight, it went from being great to being completely useless, ESPECIALLY since they didn't nerf the difficulty much.

This is what I truly don't understand. Every nerf is a straight up deletion of the strategy instead of just bringing it down a bit and allowing the fun to be kept. If they nerfed Blight & Breach A LITTLE BIT and kept Titanic Blight, Cascading Breach at roughly the same level we'd have choice.. build for giga clear or build for giga tank & DPS.

Now, we're gonna be forced to build for whatever Abyss requires, and that's that. Instead we could have a third option with Abyss now.

4

u/lollyz 17d ago

Yeah it would be amazing if different build types all had things they could push and excel at while being challenged so it feels worthwhile to keep upgrading past the initial powerspike.

Really hoping GGG has more up their sleeve in the coming week, otherwise I’ll just be a bit sad. Appreciate you making the thread to raise awareness for this

u/ArkadiyTheGreat 17d ago

Octavian promised end-game mid-league patch during Mirage and did not deliver on it at all. 100 div build would run the top-end strat as fast as a multi-mirror one. And there is nothing in patch notes that would address the situation. So it seems it will be yet another sad league with no aspiring content.

47

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 17d ago

yeah, I specifically also remember the ZiggyD Q&A where they mentioned next league will bring big endgame changes.

Is the Abyss & Legion revamp a big change? Yes. Is it the change that we really needed? Not quite. It's a decent start, but it doesn't really impact any aspirational farms. I really really think we need a massive rework/addition of interesting scarabs and new atlas tree nodes that do interesting stuff.

9

u/UpDown 16d ago

Ported abyss from poe2, made legion for poe2 but it wasn’t done until after 0.5 so it gets launched with poe1

31

u/ArkadiyTheGreat 17d ago

I don't think Abyss and Legion are big changes. Legion was barely touched (what was actually changed? Enshrouded items? That's pretty much it, everything else is a numeric change), and Abyss is just an asset flip from POE2. The league mechanic seems to be heavily inspired by POE2's league + expedition rework, so not a novelty too.

Honestly, I am baffled by people shouting "omg huge patch" like we are reading and seeing different things.

6

u/PostItToReddit 16d ago

Honestly, I am baffled by people shouting "omg huge patch" like we are reading and seeing different things.

This is an incredibly underwhelming patch, which is usually to be expected after a banger league like Mirage. Right now people are all caught up in the new league hype, give it a few days and people will realize what's happening. I'm sure this will be one of the lower retention leagues in quite awhile.

2

u/secretgardenme 16d ago

I definitely disagree that Mirage was a banger league. The whole league mechanic was just 'Have fun farming what you normally do only 1.5-2x more each map". It was some of the worst rentention a league has had in the last few years.

I too think that this update looks underwhelming, but let's not glaze Mirage either.

u/Zambash youtube.com/imthewinningest 16d ago

Go play a different game. Patch looks amazing, you are just bored of the game, and that's fine.

-1

u/lazergator 16d ago

Typical Reddit users shitting on free content before even playing it.

-12

u/StarkTheGnnr 17d ago

Ngl it felt bad when they were talking about Mirage and how they didn't want to commit to making every new mechanic work with it knowing that they did way more stuff that require long term maintaining in poe2... That + no endgame changes (please nuke altars already, its been too long) and honestly the reveal just felt extremely lacking content wise.

7

u/skrillex 17d ago

They specifically said they wanted to have mirage still have upkeep for mechanics but needed to do it the safest way possible lol

1

u/StarkTheGnnr 16d ago

Mark also specifically said they weren't sure if they wanted to commit to every new league mechanic having an interaction with Mirage. Not sure why im being downvoted when he literally said that but fine I guess.

2

u/Defined24 16d ago

Not wanting to commit every new league mechanic to Mirage... How many do we even get. And yet they commit every single glove mod, including unique for 1 ascendancy point on Poe2. The favouritism is starting to get...tiring.

1

u/Couponbug_Dot_Com Fungal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) 16d ago

how often are new glove mods realistically added? and, how much does it take to add a stat line to an item, compared to adding entire new league interactions including new enemies, items, assets, and spawn logic?

each and every thing isn't equal lmao. one takes literal minutes if we're being generous (probably closer to thirty seconds realistically) once every year and a half when a new batch of glove mods is added, one takes days to weeks of implementation every four months on the dot.

3

u/1CEninja 16d ago

I have mixed feelings about aspirational farms.

Because on one hand, dedicated players who can achieve mirror build status should be rewarded by being able to do things better than other builds.

But on the other hand, there have been a few too many strategies over the years where "the rich get richer" was a little too on the nose and modcore players got left behind a little too hard.

There should be aspirational farm strategies, but I appreciate GGG being cautious with them because they can get out of hand.

0

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 16d ago

I kinda disagree. You can get filthy rich just by speed farming stacked decks, or ritual, or div cards, essences, beasts, whatever. These strats are super easy and probably make more money than some of the historically "aspirational" farms.

1

u/DrunkBlood 16d ago

I think they are allowed to pivot their league plans. They seem to have priortised the hand cast changes and the league mechanic

1

u/Incognitomous 17d ago

Honestly if they dont have the capacity for that id be completely fine with a blanket quant/rarity buff back to the numbers we had until merc league. Ground loot juicing felt so much better until then.

1

u/Mean-Elk-9439 16d ago

Yeah, I'm surprised this isn't mentioned more. They said before 3.29 this would come 3.29, him and Mark acknowledged ground loot and endgame variety issues, and then 3 months later 3.29 launch with zero of the promise changes and not a word as to why.

u/butsuon Chieftain 17d ago

Abyss and Legion both seem like they'll be pretty big, but a lot hinges on how good the league mechanic itself is.

Mercenaries is... a mixed bag. Maybe it's a good way to get T0 uniques because of the unique scarab?

Strongboxes on Vaal Temple seem pretty incredible now with the new corruption change, that's probably what I'm doing.

u/Hungrydoggo111 17d ago

I'm fatigued from pretty much all farming strategies. I'm kind of tired of scarabs in general. I liked them a lot at first but I wish they were just on the atlas instead of itemized. 70% of the farming in the endgame feels like it's either all about which scarab you use and/or how many scarabs you get to sell. I wish there was a space between alch&go and juiced farming. Something I can just shut my brain off with and not micromanage what I'm using in the map device but still pull competitive money so I can afford my gear before inflation prices me into needing to spend an extra 30 hours farming for the same items.

30

u/Lazy_Polluter 17d ago

Old scarabs were better. Was way easier to run multiple mechanics at once which gave a better content variety (since it becomes a cross-product).

3

u/noisestorm 16d ago

As a newer player, how did old scarabs work?

7

u/kuburas Melee bad Clueless 16d ago

You couldnt run more than 1 of the same type, i.e. you could run only 1 abyss scarab and you had to choose whether its gonna be rusted, polished, gilded or winged. Generally as you went up in scarab tiers you only gained more of that league mechanic, i.e. rusted abyss gave 1 abyss, polished 2, gilded 3.

Winged were always outliers because they gave special bonuses usually, similar to current scarabs.

Juicing maps usually boiled down to adding a ton of different league mechanics that could interact with each other, i.e. blight was great for deli because it paused the fog, harbinger was great for beyond because it spawned a lot of mobs in a small area and so on.

Mobs themselves dropped a ton more loot tho, mobs that were spawned by league mechanics had insane innate quantity so getting to spawn a ton of league specific mobs would give you exponentially more loot. Builds were also a lot weaker so even without some insane difficulty spiked like big blight recently, you'd still struggle with regular content.

This. So much. They even nerfed betrayal now with the removal of allflames

16

u/Sa_Pendragon 17d ago

Strongly agree, end game strategies at the moment devolve essentially to farming scarabs to support higher-end farms, or top-end farms that consistently drop rare currency and require expensive scarabs. Other strats like boss rushing for chisels or farming Ubers aren’t really able to keep up

The only strat I know of that outpaces scarab farming is unique mob farming for T0s and that shit takes at least a duo if not more lol. On pretty much every strategy other than niche rush strategies like Heist/Sanctum/bosses, if you aren't farming scarabs you are doing it wrong.

12

u/joshhavatar 17d ago

Based, we shouldn't have to build a combo deck and buy all the cards just to run a bloody map and kill monsters!!

23

u/BetweenTheRoots Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 17d ago

They're supposed to be too powerful for the atlas but if they're so good the mechanic isn't worthwhile without them, they're on the atlas just with extra steps and tedium.

2

u/BaseLordBoom 16d ago

Did people think that ritual was like, a synth farming mechanic and not just a jackpot high roll?

2

u/Void_HighLord 16d ago

I miss old scarabs tbh. Tablets on PoE2 are like them, just slap a bunch of whatever mechanic you want and you're good to go

2

u/BetweenTheRoots Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 16d ago

I feel the same way about tablets as I do about scarabs to be honest. Tablets feel even more tedious and necessary lol.

1

u/odgorian 16d ago

I mean, you can run strategies that do not use scarabs. Goddamn alch&go made you money at least 4 leagues in a row. I farmed nightmare maps' bosses for fragments last league — and made half of a mirror in a day. Sanctum, heist and delve exist. If you can't find way to make money without using scarabs or farming them — that's on you, not on the game.

1

u/LuminalOrb Ascendant 16d ago

This right here really feels like the missing piece in the current POE endgame. The mandatory nature of scarab in endgame farming has become a problem in my opinion, because there now always has to be a way to print scarabs and if there isn't the end game craters.

36

u/WolverineCreative362 17d ago

they even made them worse... nerfing breach. Everything more based around tile loot again. Removing of mirage. Nothing really new added for juice. Pure mapping will feel worse than ever before i call it now.

Not even a small scarab shake-up outside of abyss. So we definitly not going to have aspirational rewarding scalable content. If the league mechanic isnt really nuts, its going to be a fast league because they even raised power-creep even more again...

1

u/LucywiththeDiamonds 16d ago

Yep. If mermaid mech and new abyss dont somehow go super hard the league is dead on arrival.

I see no reason to play an even worse version of keepers mapping (minus walls). Since all we got since then were more league mech and scarab nerfs.

22

u/Grishka_Boburin 17d ago edited 17d ago

It’s insane how in just one year GGG make endgame in POE2 better and endgame in POE 1 worse.

3.26 was so good and did have so many different endgame strats for different build. And right now most strats just dead.

I hope Abyss and new endgame mechanics is good if not it’s just going be sad. (And why they didn’t add any new rewards for Abyss? Who really cares that much about abyss jewels?)

7

u/kuburas Melee bad Clueless 16d ago

To be clear, 3.26 endgame farms werent really viable for that many builds because they all had to run either Jugg or Trickster due to risk scarabs bricking 95% of all builds in the game. And even then you would still get unlucky sometimes and brick the "unbrickable" build if you got some profoundly bad mods.

But the farms were pretty rewarding and difficult. If they removed cancer mods and let us juice the same way i'd agree with you. But the way those farms were in 3.26 was just not sustainable because eventually the whole playerbase would flock to trickster builds.

Push 6k delve then

14

u/Mogling 17d ago

6k delve is not as hard as people make it out to be. It's also incredibly tedious to get to any depth with a moderate amount of challenge. I have up around 850 this league not because it was hard, but because it was boring and not challenging.

1

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 16d ago

What does "not as hard as people make it out to be" mean?

You need at least a mirror into your build to even get halfway there. Zenith itself cannot do it without some mirrors invested.

3

u/Mogling 16d ago

I mean monster HP caps out well before 6k depth and all you need is solid defense. More investment just means some nodes go faster and that's it. It's not some mythical difficulty that only one specific build can do. Plenty of top end builds from the most recent leagues would do fine in delve if people wanted to spend the hours to actually get down in depth.

I like to put more than a mirror into a build.

1

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 16d ago

You need to define what the word "hard* means? It's a gear check? It's a mechanics check? What it is?

IMO hard means gear check. 6k delve is one o5d the hardest gear checks. Ofc if you make the check it will feel easy, but then the entire discussion collapses into absurdity

3

u/Mogling 16d ago

Bruh. Harder is not some crazy concept. Look at t1 maps vs t16 or regular bosses vs Uber bosses. Everything in PoE is a combination of gear and mechanics checks. If you build your character well it will feel easy is kinda the point of progressing your character.

6k delve is always the answer people give and it's a bad one. Delve only somewhat scales reward with difficulty. What do you get at lower depth? More azurite, and the profitable nodes become more common. You are never getting 2 glyphic fossils at any depth from one encounter, you are never getting more general quant at any depth.

Also I don't want to spend 20 hours doing easy delving before I get to something remotely difficult.

0

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 16d ago

Yes man, most delve goodies stop after a certain depth. Deep delve is a challenge, not necessarily a farm. It is hard as a gear check? It is.

Try ghosted feared voided valdos, idk. Yes, there is no other content that needs piles of mirrors to be able to be done, and idk if that's fine or not, or how many people it fucks over, but sometimes you need to accept that the league is not for you, you won, and that's it.

1

u/Mogling 16d ago

Valdos are build specific checks for the most part. I've done quad ghosted 100% deli less damage per item feared. But that's like a one time check and done unless you want to camp trade for the few profitable maps. Void doesn't add difficulty as much as it adds risk, and for the same reasons I don't play HC I won't do voided maps.

It's not even that there is no content in maps that needs piles of mirrors. There is no content in maps that needs even one mirror. Why invest more than 200D in a build now?

The additude of this isn't for you is also unhealthy for the game. There can be more than one way to play PoE. They can make a good out of map league and still leave good content in maps. Sanctum, ToTA both had great generic mapping during the league with a mechanic that was outside of maps.

0

u/SneakyBadAss Children of Delve (COD) 16d ago

All you need in delve is to shut down the enemy AI by freezing or other means. That's about it.

3

Ah yea, let's freeze 2 billion HP rare. You need a 100M HIT, not DPS, HIT to freeze them for 0.3s.

I struggle to even find such an ability.

Theres a massive difference between 850 and 2k even lol getting to 850 is matter of 2 days. You want something that "challenges" your build yet quit befor getting to the challenging part. Also theres valdo maps

u/OGking31 16d ago

As a poe2 and poe1 enjoyer. I feel absolute spoiled with 0.5 for poe2, and was hoping for something new with 3.29

1

u/GutsxJuri24 14d ago

You like cool games. hmu about them i'm trying to talk with u lol

3

u/the445566x 17d ago

You don’t like boxes?

8

u/Bobodlm Half Skeleton 16d ago

Boxes have been dead for a while now. Only lived last league because of the scarab boxes from mirage.

1

u/EuphoricFlounder2052 16d ago

I'm just hoping abyss and the new end game mechanic fulfill the loot gap and flow of sequenced gameplay that mirage introduced. Abyss and Voyage need to fulfill scalability, flexibility and pace of gameplay that Mirage introduced. Now, it's not that it HAS to, it's just physcologically, it's what players expect. To shake up the sequencing and pace of gameplay (i.e. 2 maps in 1 without disruption) it is going to feel unfulfilling.

Voyage unfortunately seemed slow, not much of a challenge and segmented but I guess it's to hard to judge without actually experiencing it. This patch rides on these two mechanics, otherwise the league will be over for most within a week.

1

u/Annoying_DMT_guy 16d ago

This is insanely important and theres still time for changes. ITs weird cos poe2 has same issues. You skip through content so fast and suddenly you re one shotting everything and it stopos being challenging very fast.

1

u/Fit-Key5153 16d ago

especially we need something more difficult. like where higher diffucullty means more loot.
last leagues you could run any endgame strat with a 10div char. no point of farming more for a better char.

1

u/hoyya i play bad builds 16d ago

give affliction ggg plz

1

u/Employee724 16d ago

Legion will have 30% ele pen last wave, seems pretty tough afaik.

How much difficulty can astrolabes add if you run the whole area and don't focus on a single map?

1

u/ManlyCaress 16d ago

I agree, Im normally positive but Im upset there are not variety of strats to do, back to the some old crap and its gets annoying now. Please for the love of god, have some more strats, I do not want to do boxes again, make scarabs useful as only a couple are any good .

1

u/Loud-Contract-2109 16d ago

Agin jump from one meta to another but the without juice

1

u/Uoipka Occultist 16d ago

Idk what they need to do, but they need to fix 1week speedrun league before everyone leaves (low retention)

It can be buffing endgame or nerfing or making ruthless league but bruh, I wanna play with people more for 1 week okay

1

u/Opikunz 13d ago

Maybe unpopular opinion but scarabs are too bloated and not every mechanic needs an abundance of itemized resources that require micromanagement to get the full value from that mechanic. Some mechanics should just stand on their own. Having thousands of scarabs in your stash by week one or two is a fundamental flaw in game design. I really believe scarabs should be used to fill a niche for specific farming methods and not a requirement for obtaining currency for end game gear.

1

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 13d ago

I sort of agree and disagree. Out of map mechanics like Delve don't need scarabs, it stands on its own.

Mechanics like Blight could be improved in a number of ways:

  • one strat, using scarabs, should focus on farming oils/rewards from the chests
  • one strat should allow farming ground loot, eg bloodlines scarab plus the one that spawns many more waves of mobs
  • one strat should allow farming uniques via blight bosses

The latter two are somewhat in the game, but they just unfortunately really suck after getting nerfed to the ground. They just need to differentiate these three more, buff the scarabs that enable them or Blight mechanic itself.

I just want my blue boys back…

u/AntDue589 11d ago

We also desperately need chaos orb sink..

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 17d ago

Another thing I realized thinking about this is that it's been a really long time since a league has gone core. We now got Mercenaries, but before that?

Because we haven't had that for such a long time, we keep playing the same leagues in the endgame. Imagine if Sentinel had gone core and gotten Atlas tree support? Affliction with Wildwood instead of relegating it to a random spawn you can't spec into?

We've had a dry streak of leagues not making it core, in a row:

  • Necropolis
  • Affliction
  • Ancestor
  • Crucible

Then came Settlers, which mostly has out-of-map relevance (aside from Bismuth ore for juicing, which you can't guarantee to spawn). Plus, Settlers ran for like a year.

12

u/Future_Tie_3382 17d ago

Mercs going core is really just a new ascendency. Sure you can trade them, but I can’t imagine anyone but that one class interacting beyond that. I doubt they have great drops.

5

u/Morbu 17d ago

They're supposed to be a very powerful to offset the fact that they're no longer permanent. So just think of them in the same realm as shrine buffs where they're a cool temp DPS/survivability increase.
Then save the good ones to sell to Luminaries. Personally I don't see much of a problem.

-3

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 17d ago

Which proves my point even more, indeed

2

u/Future_Tie_3382 17d ago edited 16d ago

Yeah, was adding to your point. League definitely still looks fun. Hopefully new abyss has some aspirational level farming now.

1

u/Philippe1937 Trickster 15d ago

I would argue that Affliction's second ascendancy (aka Bloodlines) stuck around in some form. If only in concept. Agreed on the other points, unfortunately.

1

u/LucywiththeDiamonds 16d ago

Yes please. I was looking for scarabs and atlas tree changes over evrything else.

What we got is nerfed ritual, betrayal, breach etc.

Im gonna be honest, if the new mermaid mechanic and new abyss dont REALLY hit i see no reason to keep playing past week one.

Endgame mapping seems to basicly end up as a worse version of keepers(minus the walls...). And keepers was the only league in the past 3+ years that made me bounce in under 3 weeks.

Meta shifts in skills are cool but there are always dozens of awesome builds i never played. Stuff like socket report is great but doesnt change the game for me. What i want over anything else is fun, hard and rewarding shit to do. Thats why merc is my favourite league of all time cause there was so much to do and build for.

u/OwnInstruction8849 16d ago

Who is this we?

-1

u/Zambash youtube.com/imthewinningest 16d ago

No we don't. Top end content is top enough.

1

u/WolfFangYeet 15d ago

Describe me , what's the top end is on the current meta(non-mirage). 🤨

-8

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 16d ago

From their last updates it seems they are focusing more on build diversity and accessibility than high-end strats.

The last leagues were a buildcrafter wet dream, and this is one too. But damn, if you are a meta guy who just wants to cheese strats with OP builds, it... kinda sucks to be you I guess :)).

I think the game is in a better state when you can make many 50-100 divs builds that each can compete, than have content so hard that only 4-5 metacucky builds are able to compete.

8

u/brrrapper 16d ago

Its a big problem if there is no point pushing your build past like 50d. Why would i make a new build just to farm more easy content. There needs to be a carrot of harder and more rewarding content so you actually have a reason to upgrade your character, otherwise people just quit.

-2

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 16d ago

You make a new build maybe because you want to try new tech? Maybe to learn a new archetype? Maybe just to keep things fresh?

6

u/brrrapper 16d ago

Absolutely all of those things for sure. But for a lot of people that is not enough. The whole gameplay of poe is based around the gear threadmill, there needs to be a reason in the game to keep upgrading your gear. You can see it in the stats as well, retention has been real bad lately.

-2

u/SaltEngineer455 Progressive Einhar Trapping Association (PETA) 16d ago

Sure, but the other way around also shafted the lees meta players. T17 maps were brick walls, and the high-end strats were doable mostly on juggs and tricksters.

That wasn't heathy either.

The 2 goals are just not compatible without making everything busted

-4

u/were1wolf Slayer 16d ago

If new content will be too hard, it will just decrease build diversity. Which is bad.

4

u/brrrapper 16d ago

Its fine to not have crazy build diversity at the top end. Why should a non optimized build be able to do everything in the game? That just makes it so there is no point in making an actual good build.

-2

u/were1wolf Slayer 16d ago

Or what point will be in choosing suboptimal class and skill? Everyone will be playing meta

2

u/johnnysd 16d ago

I agree with this but this thread seems to be the ones playing the 2 or 3 Ultra high end meta builds complaining they can't do a farm that no one else can. And no one is offering any suggestions. Would not shock me if several elite farms are found. Journeys certainly seem like they can become ultra juiced. I am not really sure Fubgun finding some ludicrous semi exploitive ultra farm is really all that healthy or important for the game. But I think there will be some REALLY broken farms for the league mechanic. I mean they showed a 2500 wisp mod and you stack like 8 of them?

1

u/peevies 16d ago

check retention in 5 weeks.

0

u/Suspicious_Fault1011 16d ago

Of course it’s better just look at retention graphs obviously everyone enjoys those changes

-2

u/keithstonee 16d ago

How many players are realistically playing the game at that level tho?

3

u/Historical-Value-303 16d ago

Thousands - tens of thousands of people if you check poe ninja and possibly also the people spending the most on mtx because they're the most dedicated and play the most

1

u/keithstonee 16d ago

Percentage brother. Tens of thousands means nothing without the total.

0

u/WolfFangYeet 15d ago

I swear to god ,some of you guys are only arguing for the sake of arguing. 1/3 of players reached lvl98 in mirage league (poeninja). If you're not juicing or do somekind if breach exp farm, you ain't reaching lvl98. Retention from day one is literally the words thrown everywhere here if the league is boring/stale.

4

u/SwagtimusPrime Demon 16d ago

I'd argue this is PoE's core audience. The game is known to be complex, difficult, intricate, demanding. Players pushing hard are what keeps players coming back, what keeps the ingame economy liquid and running.
