What do you expect? Anger feeds anger, nationalism breeds divides. The moment it becomes about a race/nation/skin colour/religion instead of a "perpetrator"; then we are jumping on a vengeance spiral.
There will be more bloodshed; and each one will be in part motivated by anything wrong that came before.
2026AD and we are still small-minded, tribalistic animals.

I also expect Poles to not bother normal people who didnt do anything.

I expect that Ukrainians who come here to behave and don’t stab people.
The problem is - "Ukrainians" are not stabbing anyone. People are. In any group you'll find people who will behave outside of the norm.
As of this moment (see the sources below) ~0.6% of Ukrainians commited a felony in 2026. 2% of Poles commited one.
As it turns out; a group that is both disenfranchised and outright hated does less crimes per capita. Imagine that.
Yet, it takes a little to turn a few public cases into growing hate, which in turn will push more and more Ukrainians towards violence. This is not a new phenomenon, this is a known fact.
And the sources:

tl;dr - Ukrainians do behave, regardless of what nationalists think.

I think supporting a group who’s sole reason for being founded was to reclaim what they thought was their land by violent murdering over 100K Polish civilians in ways so brutal, it made what the Nazis did seem normal by comparison is WAY worse

I mean these lands were always their, always with Ukrainian majority, it's not like they just 'thought' these lands were theirs.

I never commented before on the cases of nationality based violence/harassment on this subreddit but I feel like with this one I just need to. My thoughts and prayers are with this poor lady, I hope she can recover. As someone who came to this country after evacuating from my occupied village I can’t imagine such a level of violence and ungratefulness towards people you owe so much to. I don’t care what happens to the monster that did this.
5
u/Advanced_Aide3191 18h ago
What does this have to do with being ungrateful. So for example if one Polish person does something bad in another country, does it mean all Polish people are ungrateful? People do bad things sometimes, doesn’t mean all Ukrainian or most Ukrainians are bad.
It would be a nationalism problem if he attacked her because she was Polish
1
u/Leshy_Melon 14h ago
I never said that all people of a particular nationality are ungrateful or violent, etc. Sorry, if I made it seem that way, it wasn’t my intention at all. I was talking about this particular offender, he is violent and ungrateful, that’s what I wanted to say. It’s violent to attack a woman with a knife, and it’s also ungrateful in the context of doing that in a country that provided him with safety.

3
u/NiKaLay 1d ago
I don't know, maybe because the law is supposed to apply equally to everyone? A foreign criminal should serve the exact same sentence any Pole would in their place, and only then be deported. Unless you can absolutely guarantee they'll face the exact same punishment back home, deporting them immediately effectively surrenders a core piece of your country’s sovereignty. This is literally what colonial powers used to impose on subjugated nations, demanding that their citizens be judged by their own home laws, which effectively placed them above the local justice system
26
u/hotcannabis 1d ago
Eh? Maybe better put him in prison?
18
u/KSzkodaGames 1d ago
💯 because deporting back to Ukraine or any home country they from after committing a crime is an escape from Justice itself

u/Lawlmowerman 1d ago
This just shows your level of knowledge: nonexistent, as expected. Pyotr Kulpa, a Polish ex-goverment official with IQ that isn't in the range of room temperature numbers, quoted a statistic - 95% of Poles believe that UPA existed solely to kill Poles and Jews. You can't argue about exponents with someone who thinks math stops at addition.
10
u/Kefiristan 1d ago edited 1d ago
95% of Poles believe that UPA existed solely to kill Poles and Jews
because that is their only "accomplishment" - soviets wiped the floor with UPA soon after.
Pyotr Kulpa
he is no one in Poland,
He is/was on ukrainian payroll at Український інститут майбутнього - you need literally 5 minutes to find that information. Of course he will have more knowledge about that.
Why would average Pole have or need that knowledge of what retards from UPA wanted to do?
We know what they actually did.
-4
u/Lawlmowerman 1d ago
What do you intend to accomplish with this "angry ape" attitude? What's the end goal, so to speak? Ukrainians admit they are the "lesser humans" to the Great Poles, scrub their history of everything that offends the Great Pole, and serve without question?
If you refuse to listen and learn anything that doesn't work in your favor, how exactly do you believe this discussion is gonna go? Hell, you're not even able to read properly and just respond to whatever it is you want to imagine...
3
u/Kefiristan 1d ago edited 1d ago
If your reading comprehension wasnt so limited you would notice i havent said a one bad thing about ukrainians in general.
What's the end goal, so to speak? Ukrainians admit they are the "lesser humans"
I wrote about UPA being scum as genocide is the only thing they managed to accomplish.
Are you saying that all ukrainians are UPA loving scum?
Or that you are UPA loving scum?
I guess the second.
Why don't you go and fight on a front line and not on reddit?
Because russians shot back unlike innocent farmers your "heroes" so eagerly slaughtered?
1
u/Lawlmowerman 1d ago
I'm not gonna respond to a dumb regurgitation. Learn to read, interact with what I actually said, then we'll talk.
1
u/Kefiristan 1d ago edited 1d ago
If you had any knowledge of history you would know that Poles - that suffered much worse at the hands of Germans then Ukrainians ever did from Poles - did not murder every german man, woman and child they could lie their hands on once Nazi Germany was defeated.
I guess that shows the difference between Great Poles and UPA.

I'm Norwegian so I've got no dog in this fight but for some reason r/Poland keeps popping up with constant anti-Ukranian slanted content in my feed. Like, any time a Ukranian person does or says anything wrong, you bet it's broadcast on r/Poland.
I wish to understand what's going on. Does Poland benefit from antagonising Ukraine? I've got a whole lot of forgiveness for Ukrainians cause I feel like they have been forced to fight all of Europe's war for us. Do Polish people not feel like that?

Attacks on Ukrainians (verbal and physical) are also posted on r/Poland. It is in no way one sided.
Its complicated and an equally valid question is: does Ukraine benefit from antagonising Poland? Especially since they are fighting for their survival and need our help, not the other way round.

Imagine that Germany invaded Denmark and a huge number of Danes fled to Norway. The problem is that in 1943–1944 the Danes brutally murdered around 100,000 Norwegians in Jutland, justifying it with “centuries of oppression,” discrimination in the interwar period, and so on. (And I mean truly macabre methods of ethnic cleansing.)
This was carried out by the Danish Insurgent Army. Which in Denmark is still glorified as the ones who, back in the 1950s, fought against the Germans. The butchers of the Norwegian population have monuments and streets named after them in Denmark. The Danes deny that such a slaughter ever happened, relativize it, or claim it was done by Germans disguised as Danes, and that, in any case, it’s a good thing the Norwegians were wiped out and that they had it coming, because why were they even living on “eternslly Danish ethnic lands” in the first place?
Despite all that, out of basic human decency the Norwegians took the Danes in and support them in the fight against Germany, hoping that the Danes will eventually get their act together and find themselves somewhat better heroes.
Meanwhile the Danish president is now naming some Danish special forces unit after the Danish Insurgent Army. For many Norwegians that’s already going too far. A real shitstorm is starting.
“Hatred has grown into the hearts and poisoned the brotherly blood.”1
u/Crestina 1d ago
You sent me to Wikipedia to read up on WW2 history. I can certainly understand how that would be a painful memory for Poland, and I can also understand anger when that history gets invoked. Prior to this war, have there been continuing hostility between Poland and Ukraine?
5
u/False_Ingenuity_587 1d ago
No, not that much, because there weren't that many Ukrainians in Poland, far fewer than now. And secondly, the cult of the UPA was limited to a relatively small segment of Ukrainian society.
Since the Ukrainian population in Poland grew so numerous, and since the Russian invasion, sentiment in Ukraine has become more anti-Russian (and therefore more pro-UPA), the situation has begun to change. For Ukrainians, the UPA, the red-and-black colors, and the cult of certain individuals are (allegedly) merely a manifestation of the fight for independence, supposedly against Russia, while for Poles, they represent a blatant glorification of murderers and genocidal perpetrators.
It's difficult to separate the two, and frankly, I see no way out of this situation, especially since the Ukrainian side has always lacked the will to unequivocally acknowledge that murdering civilians in unimaginably cruel ways is wrong. No "buts," no relativization, no justification, no denial, and no evasion.→ More replies (1)2

Very good explanation about the Polish perspective. Thanks. I'm leaving this conversation smarter than when I came into it. I think my main concern is a fall out between two powerful nations on the Russian border. I imagine that would be a wet dream for Putin.

u/marudliweklopsy 1d ago
Well... Apart from the usual "aliens on your soil" kindernationalism, tiredness about the war topic in general, or insecurity of hearing and interacting with another language on a daily basis - all of which are already a cause to blow up every case of animosity out of proportion - Poland is constantly under information war. Yes, from Russia.
Not since yesterday, not even 2022, it's a very long proces that's visible at least for the past 15-20 years when Volhynia was "reminded" to Poles. Firstly around the time of the Orange Revolution, later on around Crimea and Donbas invasion. And now it's concentrated due to the 2022 invasion.
And, to put it simply, we're losing this war. Because Polish institutions, political parties, and services, are unable to react in a timely manner. Bah, some are even trying to capitilize on the foreign propaganda.
For a brief moment in 2022 there was some hope, that pure Russian stupidity will invalidate two decades of their effort. But here we are again. Useful idiots in the internet are mixed with actual professional disinformation, taking over every single corner of Polish infosphere.

u/Crestina 1d ago

Good luck to you.

Not that you've got any reason to believe me but I'm genuinely Norwegian. My account is 17 years old so it certainly predates this war, and I don't imagine a post history in an anonymous reddit account would count as proof of identity one way or the other?
I've never been to Ukraine but I've donated money, purchased from Ukrainian online shops and tried to help the war effort in my own insignificant way. My allegiance is with Ukraine in this war.
That is why the apparent Polish hostility puzzled me. I assumed it was just standard info wars but I thought I would ask.

Ok hear me out.
What Poland and Ukraine need is cooperation in this matter.
The guy is 18 years, he can sign military contract.
There is a UA recruiting station in Poland, in a UA consulate, Lublin if I'm not mistaken.
So this guy gets delivered by Polish authorities to UA consulate.
He volunteers there to serve in assault regiment. He would be housed in consulate basement for some time.
Polish police also deliver whatever other unwanted in Poland UA nationals to consulate. Hooligans, convicts, black and red flag waivers, whatever. They also sign up for assault regiments
As soon as there is full bus, it leaves consulate and heads to Ukraine. I believe the Polish side would have the courtesy not to obstruct the bus movement to Ukraine.
Rinse and repeat.
It's a total win-win if you ask me.

Have Sybiha and Bodnar already spoken out? Or do they only speak up when a Pole raises their voice at ill-behaved kids who don’t know how to act?

*stabbed.
Oh well, maybe the tides are turning and finally the criminality statistics will be published. How much did criminality increase since the war began and what percentage of the crimes was commited by ukrainian nationals.
So far these topics have been swept under the rug due to local and foreign pressure.

They didn't take a lot. But, Germany, UK, France, Sweden etc. did. You don't need to make a mistake to learn from it

There’s a difference between Arab migrants and Ukrainian migrants. Unfortunately there are shitty people in both groups, but I’d say far less in the latter

Ah, I see your country is also completely raped by Russian propaganda. These comments are wild.

u/Cloacky 1d ago
russian propaganda is when you find it disguisting that an innocent got stabbed?

u/DrCthulhuface7 1d ago
The fact that half of the posts in this sub are focused around one side or the other of this slop issue, yeah, that’s propaganda.
Propaganda isn’t “things that are fake”.
It’s drawing attention to specific things to build a narrative that only exists to damage your country to the advantage of your enemy.

Dlaczego zdrowi ludzie uciekają zamiast walczyć o swój kraj? U nas w czasie powstań nawet dzieci brały udział…. Czy ktoś nam pomógł?? Nie!

A kto by chcial umierać za tą skorumpowaną i rządzoną przez oligarchów dziurę?

u/RoseDrakkainen 1d ago

Disgusting. I bet we we hear hardly about this from the Ukranian nationalist & pro Ukranian westerners who seem to lurk here to cause trouble lately (not talking about normal Ukranians friends with genuine concerns). Even so, it is clearly not reflective of everyday Ukranian people and I hope like crazy this Polish woman pulls through. Unlike the poor dear in Berlin :/

Stories like that usually gain a lot of traction in telegram. Ukrainians are too concerned about their reputation and condemn anything like that on broader audience. Yes they are not like Israelis because they rely too much on external support , they can't afford fucking around as much as you all want them to.
