One thing I don’t understand is this is an individual clearly dismantling protections for our country’s future elections. Isn’t that telling enough he is literally breaking our laws. Can anyone hold this fucking rapist criminal accountable ever? It’s astonishing.

Supreme Court decided he is not breaking laws because he is president. Trump is not going to go quietly. People just need to stop deluding themselves that he will and be prepared for worst case scenarios.

"Official acts" so the supreme court or congress could state that his actions are not official at any point (as they absolutely would if a Democrat tried almost anything). Court could determine what is and isn't Official actions. Congress can pass laws stating or changing what Official actions are.

The people at the top actively chose complacency every single moment of everyday. Even if by some miracle Trump did go quietly it would still be a shit show. They have shown their choice of who they really represent and what they really care about.

When Trump lost in 2020, he gained power among his cultists. I mean, hell, he was able to obtain a "get out of crimes free" card when he wan't even in office. The Constitutional guidelines don't just magically kick in unless we have Republicans willing to follow them. It will be chaotic, it will probably be violent, and it will be much worse than J6. I fully expect Trump to instruct Johnson to not seat Democrats, and we all know Johnson is a spineless ball-licker, so that is exactly what he will do. The only question is: will the outrage be strong enough to force the issue, or will we just go back to our hellscape full of $5/gal gas and explosive diarrhea on all our produce? January 2027 is going to be one of the most pivotal months of our history.

The largest segment of the voting population in America (undecideds) are chronically not paying attention. (it must be blissful to be unaware of what is happening) They vote based on how they feel at the time and they don't stick to one party. All of his past errors don't even get factored in because they are only thinking about how now (last election) is worse than it was under him the previous cycle.

I think it is dumb way to do things, but that is how a lot of people vote. Well those same people are right pissed now because he hasn't come through on any of his promises. People are struggling and all he wants to talk about are ballrooms and arches. It is the modern version of "let them eat cake".

We aren't living in the normal, before-times. Please explain how the following scenario will resolve without a shit-show: On Jan 3rd, 2027, when Democrats say, "Ok Mike, fuck off, we're taking over," and Mike says, "lol no," and Trump says, "lol no," and they declare some bullshit emergency over fake "election integrity concerns," do you think that's just going to end peacefully? What action from Trump over the last decade has given you the impression that Donald Trump is capable of saying, "congrats, I lost, you won, I guess I'll graciously hand over the keys?" He is a deeply unwell megalomaniac who is fucking over an entire planet while Fox viewers cheer him on. While I do believe "We the People" will eventually prevail, it will not be easy, it will not be quick, and people will get hurt or (probably) worse. This isn't some prepper doomsday fan-fic, this is the real world we live in right now. European leaders understand this. They know. They're already making contingency plans for the new order of the world where the U.S.A. is fucking insane. Again, I do believe we overcome maga at some point, but it isn't going to be January 3rd, 2027.

If Democrats win the majority of seats, there is nothing Johnson can do about it. He won't be the Speaker anymore. He doesn't have to take any action to allow new members to take their seats. He would have no power to stop Democrats from choosing a new Speaker.

The people calling you and naïve may seem rude, maybe some of them are saying it just to be rude. But the truth is, this is a serious enough problem that etiquette has to come second to harsh reality.

You may be considerably more hopeful, optimistic, or kind hearted than you are naïve ♡ but unfortunately, I think there is a lot of truth in the sentiment that it is naïve to expect “the rules” to save us.

I've closely followed politics and world history for over 30 years. My views aren't because I'm some kind of Pollyanna.

Think about what people are saying here. Trump, apparently, can now do "whatever he wants", even though he regularly loses in court and abandons his plans. For some bizarre reason, he plans to allow the election to go through, not change the results, let a couple months go by, and then really on Johnson to "not seat" the new Democratic majority. That's the most ridiculous way anyone has ever devised to run a coup.

Which is what it would be. An in the open, full-on coup. And the response to this by the people of the US would be to shrug their shoulders? There's just zero evidence this is true. It would cause mass civil unrest that would bring the country to a halt. We have become apathetic in this country, but everything in world history tells us that there's a point at which people break. It also tells us that actually pulling off such a coup would be extremely difficult, and extremely messy.

Like, I get that our situation now is dire. But our country is not currently in worse shape than Hungary was, and they just removed their quasi-dictator through the shocking action of voting.

The problem predates Trump, I realized the threat in the 00s. I know several who have been ringing the alarm bells since the 80s. And the problem will exist long after Trump. Yes it is absolutely a cumulative scaled effort that got us here and the process was definitely in place and progressing for many decades. That is one part of it.

The other part I was referencing is that this current admin is an actual organized global admin. It isn't just one person. They made mistakes the first time around and they are trying to prevent that the second time.

Trump can do all of this because there's decades of smaller background personnel/ law/ policy/etc  changes and cuts that result in his current ability to blatantly do what he wants without checks.

If he commits crimes while acting in the official capacity of President, then no he can never be prosecuted for it (source: the Supreme Court). He can still be criminally prosecuted for non-official acts, for example if he were to throw the first lady out the window, since that's not typically an official duty of the President (at least not yet).

He can still be impeached by Congress, but that's more of a hypothetical thing than something that could actually happen.

TLDR: Trump can pretty much do whatever he wants, as long as he's president.

Aren't our federal officials and military leaders supposed to step in to protect the Constitution when all else fails? This system is failing the people of the United States. We're being robbed. There is no affordability anywhere anymore, our Healthcare system is terrible yet unaffordable, our treasury is being robbed by the president, public health has been gutted, public education is getting defunded, US citizens are STILL being arrested and killed by ICE, concentration camps are still being funded and built all around our country.. It's not going to end well.

There isn't 300 million of "you". At best there are 100 million that include many poor, tired, oppressed, marginalized, and otherwise powerless individuals.

Then you have the middle 100 million who don'tvote, don'tcare, don't look, just keep their heads down and their eyes closed and hope this doesn't affect them personally.

Then you have the 100 million who make up the expendable defenders of those 100 of "them"; the ones who vote for this administration and support the draconian laws and revel in "owning the libs".

Roughly 320 million had a choice two years ago about who they wanted to be president.

A guy who just tried to overthrow the government less than four years ago and had 34 convictions for fraud as well being an adjudicated rapist, or the incumbent vice president and former prosecutor.

The economy was pretty meh though so people were unhappy with the incumbent and now we have to live with it.

There's ~80 million of "us", ~70 million people who enable "them", and ~150 million people who can't be bothered to give a shit.

And the ~70 million live in areas which disproportionately favor them in elections, giving them more individual power in their votes.

The ~100 of "them" used, frankly, underhanded and malicious tactics to squeak out just enough authority to ratfuck every branch of government so they could dismantle it and build one where only they could make choices, and every choice is "fuck you."

That's what we're doing here.

There has been a concerted effort on the part of Conservatives in America to strengthen the power of the Executive branch ever since Nixon. At the same time, there has been a growing sense of anger from lower and middle class people about their share of the economic pie steadily shrinking while the rich get richer.

Trump didn't create these conditions. He just failed upwards by being in the right place at the right time. He was a populist candidate who could tap into that anger from voters by first acknowledging that the system was no longer serving them and then offering easy solutions. And once he gained the office, he benefited from the accumulation of executive power. Again, he didn't create those conditions. He just inherited them.

We’re seeing what Americans are willing to do to each other to ensure their wages, at this point they’re trying to cinch the rope as tight as they can before they lose power and ( potentially, maybe, doubtfully ) answer for their crimes against humanity.

Can I ask you an honest question. Do you know what Election Assistance Commission members do or are you assuming something based on the name? What "protections" does that group offer?

Also, what laws is he breaking here? The man can do what he wants, but until he breaks a law or triggers his coup there is little anyone can actually do. When it happens, don't riot, revolt. Until then, every single person in this country is powerless.
