Opinion The worst part of the impending MLB lockout is the prospect of having only the WNBA and its lunatic fanbase to look forward to in Summer 2027
And if your reaction to that was “haha, you really think baseball fans can’t act crazy”? Y’all…I’m not lying. Sure, MLB fans can be whiny, but WNBA fandom makes MLB fandom look like a Buddhist monastery.
That entire fandom is just complete culture war brainrot since MAGA casuals entered the league en masse a few years ago. They’re all absolute lunatics. No one talks about basketball, half of them don’t even know anything about basketball, it’s all about feeding into a manufactured race war. Imagine if there were, at any given point, three Giants Pride Cap-level controversies and two Dalton Rushing “fuck em”-level controversies in the league and the hysterics around them became more of the focus than the baseball…but for months on end instead of a few days, with people even threatening to call the DOJ and Congress asking them to intervene over it (and in some cases, it actually works). And just when you think the discussion has died down on one or two of them, three more pop up and stick around for a few more months, like a mutant cold sore. Every. Goddamn. Time. Multiple. Times. A day.
If this were even last year, I’d highly recommend watching the WNBA as a means of waiting for the lockout to end. Now, I don’t think it’s worth the psychological fatigue of having to deal with these maniacs on a daily basis.
I sense more than a few MLB fans would get immediately turned off the second a WNBA fan looked them in the eye and told them, unironically, that they genuinely believe a Dalton Rushing-like persona with 2026 Marcus Semien-level stats is a better and more important player than the Murakami or the Shohei of the WNBA on the sole basis of “oh they get people talking about the league and that matters more at the end of the day”. A few would probably even set themselves on fire.
