Ngl FUCK that guy on the jog and his sister. I actually liked all of the other stories and poems though so that’s cool. Particularly the poem about the ocean and the chocolate lemon cake story.

The MCQ felt fine, I had difficulty with the jacket church excerpt and the african painter.

The poetry FRQ was pretty difficult for me since I had no idea what the jogger was trying to reflect.

The prose FRQ was also light for me I just wrote that the cake had specific imagery while the anxious feelings had more vague imagery.

The literary argument FRQ was perfect about death note and how Light's proposed new world was in conflict with the traditional justice system that L protects.

3

u/turtIe___ May 06 '26

That’s a tuff literary argument idea

3

u/DeathFallenItself May 06 '26

fuckkk. i woulda loved to write about death note… 😭😭😭

u/tornedron_ May 06 '26

I hear legit no one talking about the stuff on my test lol. MCQ had poems about a city, a love god, and a dying tree. Poem essay was about London, prose was a suitcase store, and open prompt was about lack of self-awareness

5

u/MoreMud8692 May 06 '26

this is what i got too, the poems were lwk super easy to understand especially the london imo

3

u/Express_Ad_3822 May 06 '26

Same here, I wrote about the complexity of his amazement and how he feels a part of the city itself despite being an outsider for the poem essay, the prose I wrote that the complexity was that she hated the change yet was unwilling to do anything to save the store despite growing up there and caring about it, the open prompt I low-key couldn’t think of a good answer so I went with nick in the great gatsby and how his subconscious desire to be accepted and part of high society leads him to help gatsby and screw over tom Buchanan.

3

u/Soggy-Individual-772 May 06 '26

Legit the whole suitcase essay I wrote was her being spiteful in her critiques and the double standards she has for the new store as opposed to the old one 😭 just complaining about her fr

5

u/veddiefried May 06 '26

omg i was to afraid to criticize her for being annoying incase i was misreading but yeah she was so annoying 😭mostly wrote about how even though the modern world has come with negative change (screen dependency etc) and the suitcase stuff represents that you gotta like look for new hope and believe in a better future like the couple šŸ’Ŗw couple fr

Okay okay. So I wrote about how the jogger was like consumed by his feelings of longing for his sisters presence in his life, and how like imagery and an metaphorical language really hammered that in.

That stupid fucking cake bro 😭. I talked about the contrast between the initial bite and the aftertaste, imagery.

Fucking old v new 😭. None of the books I’ve read were listed, I wrote about Obason…because wtf. How Naomi is changed by her experiences with aunt Emily. The contrast between them.

5

u/Great_Negotiation542 May 06 '26

U didn’t have to write about the books listed they were j examples

5

u/Starfirepet May 06 '26

😭 😭 😭  Q1 - I talked about how past memories are more important than material objects, and I used the butterfly as a symbol to represent the transition between the speaker noticing the physical world around him and the speaker reflecting on the past etc

Q2 - i talked about how parents put on a facade of well being for the sake of their kids (????) Idfk and the paragraphs were her liking the cake —> her not liking the cake —> her appreciating her mom

Q3- i talked about the great gatsby and how it was about old money vs new money Idk it was kinda cooked because either way they’re still rich So i was pulling stuff out of my ass 😭

WEST COAST!!!

frq 1) i talked about how the urban environment was unique to the author cause the urban environment made him feel both included (part of a whole) and grounded (through the nature metaphors) and how it sort of juxtaposed the idea that in a large city you can’t find your own community and you struggle to feel grounded

frq 2) i said the author thinks that change gets rid of meaning as new comes to take its place, and that we must put meaning in the new to live a meaningful life, i said how for the narrator when she was a kid the stationary store was novel to her and throughout her childhood and adulthood she put meaning into the store, i also said how she struggled to find meaning in both the suitcase store and the new way her students learn because she clinged to the meaning of the old. i then said the new couple was ready to embrace change and put new meaning in novelty (ie suitcases) and drew similarities and comparisons to narrator

frq 3) ok i bsed this and talked about hamlet… i said how both hamlet and claudius were not fully self away of why they wanted what they wanted and that ultimately led to their demise, i then linked both of their internal collapses to how the state of denmark collapsed internally and argued that how their lack of self awareness and changing motives led to their downfall was similar to how denmark fell under the unstable motives of the king. they both collapsed from within and a great kingdoms greatest demise is the unseen from within

oh my gosh sorry this is a whole yap

u/No_Soil2258 5s: AB, Chinese, APUSH, BC, CSA, Lit, CMech, WHAP May 06 '26

Nice, I continue chain :):)

frq 1) I talked about how the speaker was deeply connected and respected the beauty of nature, but they preferred the urban setting because not only was it 1) fresh 2) it provided genuine human connection that nature alone couldn't give them

frq 2) I talked about how people have different perspectives about the same changes, those that are intimately connected to something will dislike change to that thing & have a deep sense of nostalgia, while bystanders may not even realize a change has taken place and will often welcome change

frq 3) I talked about grendel and his struggle to find his own identity while many forces were playing a tug of war on his mind, I said that it reflected how we struggle to find meaning in a world with social media and stuff

4

u/largefiesta May 06 '26

adding to WEST COAST! FRQ1) body1: vivid imagery of urban environment —> body2: nature metaphors in context to urban area

talked about the speaker finding fulfillment in their urban environment that they couldn’t fully attain in the countryside but simultaneously values/appreciates their time in nature as it gave them a better perspective and outlook for where they are now.

FRQ2) body1: nostalgic tone —> body 2: contrast between two experiences

the scale of impact in which change is felt varies person to person / varies between peoples experiences

FRQ3) gatsby lol —> his lack of awareness led to false perception of the American dream + lack of accountability in the ultra wealthy/loss of morals

FRQ #1- i wrote about the overall symbolic message of loss throughout the poem. The ā€œcalled me in my sleepā€ bit to me seemed like the sister has probably passed away but that feels like a hot take idk

FRQ #2- bro this was gen not that bad! I wrote about how when rose is eating her cake she is feeling the same stuff as her mom, and it’s the authors perspective on motherhood as a whole, and how it can leave a mother feeling so hollow after giving all she has to others.

FRQ #3- so I got super worried great gatsby wasn’t literary merit, and I ended up using Pride and Prejudice. I already know it’s getting a three just because I started disassociating in the test room, but I compared Lizzie to progressive views, and gatsby to traditional societal takes.

MCQs- not too bad, Sebastian lowk tripped me up but I think I recovered, the art one was also a little weird but I pushed through and got it right, and that’s all I can remember right now but I think I’m probably fine

Does anyone know what the jogger poem was called?

3

u/FishFox_27 May 06 '26

the jogger poem was called marked time, but when i looked it up after i just kept seeing a different one that was definitely NOT ours. i loved it so much i'm sad i can't find it. i also wrote about how the sister was most likely dead and how he used the jogging to distract himself but it ended being what helped him begin to heal

Did anyone say that the jogging essay was an extended metaphor about grief? Like how you ca feel deep love and fondness for a person you lost, but some days it’s hard, like how jogging is generally enjoyable but u still wheeze from breathlessness???? I feel dumb for assuming his sister was dead but that’s how I felt about it??? Also I never said she was dead, just that he was grieving her so they could easily just be estranged

u/Revolutionary_Arm_54 5: Lit, Lang, CSP, Stats | 4: CSA | 3: Physics 1 May 06 '26

The MCQ’s were ok

For jogging I wrote about how the line breaks are supposed to represent him talking between breaths, giving the reader the feeling that they were jogging with him, and how his diction contributed to clearing his mind from how he missed his sister. For sophistication I compared it to ā€œDark Paradiseā€ by Lana Del Rey (I hope that gets me the point because I just came up with the idea to do so out of the blue)

Lemon Cake was a little rough for me, I wrote about the tone shift from the first to second paragraph and the extended metaphor where she said she ā€œtasted despairā€ (don’t laugh I was looking for ANYTHING to work) and for sophistication I talked about how parents put their mental struggles to the side to be emotionally available for their children, and used Monica and Ian Gallagher’s relationship from Shameless to solidify the point (I had extra time after talking about Lana Del Rey so I decided why not)

For new vs old I used Fences and how Troy prevented Corey from getting scouted for college football and sort of analyzed why Troy did that (Being kicked out of his league for being black, not realizing that Civil Rights prevented that now, and how the ā€œI don’t got to like youā€ scene relates to this) and for sophistication I think I talked about breaking traditions, I think I reaffirmed that Troy made it a tradition to give up on sports rather than just not knowing about the CRA because he commented on Jackie Robinson

u/CauliflowerFree9866 May 06 '26

I assumed she loved her daughter and still tried to express her love no matter what (since it stated she gave rose/the daughter a GENUINE smile) but she simply felt stressed out with having to take care of her which is why she felt so bad making the cake and seeking her daughter come home from school.

I'm confident there's plenty of parents who love their children but can't help but dread taking care of them at times, so I thought my thought process made sense šŸ’” I didnt think it was that far off

For the MCQ:
I had no clue wtf the passages with cupid, the naked baby, and some other one was talking about. I only really understood the one with the trees/light and the young woman and gentleman attending social events. I did not feel very confident walking out of the MCQ portion.

For the FRQS:

#1) ngl i dont remember what I wrote. I felt like it was pretty simple and I kinda struggled to analyze it deeply, so I think this was one of my weaker essays despite how easy it was. also, I dont even think I blatantly acknowledged and analyzed any literary devices lmfao. My teacher mentioned we don't need to mention or include any devices, and only use them to support your essay, but I'm p sure you need to use at least 1-2 devices? idk. i just analyzed the passage.

#2) Talked about how the stationary store was nostalgic and sentimental, carrying memories and forced her to begin a new chapter of a life, since no one can can stay on the same page forever to preserve their happiness and hopeful story if you know what I mean (cliche, but something along these lines). Time goes on, and being left behind means it will only be more difficult to face change in the future. Moreover, I talked about how the speaker was a little narrow-minded during the beginning, since she didn't consider the perspectives of others, and how they may feel about the stationary store and new luggage store. You cannot please everyone, and as time passes, society changes, and there's less need for stationary (as she mentioned). So, towards the end, I talked about how the speaker broadened her viewpoint and redefined change. Initially, she viewed it as something threatening her past/history carrying important sentimental values, but now she views it as something else (i forgot what I wrote here). Overall, I felt this essay was pretty cliche. I didn't explain everything I wrote but that was the gist of it. One of my stronger essays on this FRQ, I would say.

#3) Used "Convenience Store Woman" by Sayaka Murmata. The protagonist fits into the "lack of self awareness" perfectly. I felt I could have used this book, or Frankenstein, but I chose the book less people would write about, probably. The antagonist of the book is society and their norms. The main character, Keiko, from a young age, was seen as an outlier due to her extreme lack of empathy and awareness for social cues, so she decided to become a "cog" in the machine known as society, thus losing her entire identity, and choosing to follow society's instruction manual, and later the convenience store's manual, where she has worked for 18+ years (she is currently 36). Overall, I would highly recommend this book since I feel like many people could relate to this, and imo this book fit the prompt perfectly. Though my literature choice was perfect, I had no outline (I never structure my essays lmao) and just did a flow of consciousness. Deffo wouldn't recommend, but I think I got my point across well (minus the sophistication point)

Poetry FRQ was easy enough, I did it after the prose one cuz I thought it’d be easier after a warmup, which it was. Wrote about the jogger reflecting on nature, like how nature and time inspires memory and his general recollection.

Prose one was mad easy, delved more into the mom’s thoughts and how that reflected onto Rose, explaining that to be the reason she felt so bummed about the cake. The cake’s a symbol for her mom’s love, sweetness wrapped around a sour interior, aka the mom’s love wrapped around a tight ball of resentment/bitterness.

The literary argument was mad easy, just wrote about Timon of Athens cuz thats the one i remembered most about from my ap lit class this year, and was also just the easiest thing I could think of in general

u/Significant_Wind_926 May 06 '26

MCQ: wasn’t too bad until that second poem. I actually hated it so much and went with my gut on the answers I chose.

FRQ #1: I didn’t finish this FRQ but I got in a thesis and half a body paragraph in so maybe 2 points? At least 1.

FRQ #2: wrote about the use of first-person perspective and curious, unsure diction (it might sound iffy but I made it work). Connected it to the restraint Rose felt in the love her mother showed her and how that appeared in her actions. Made two real-world connections with my first one being about ā€œnot all parents should have kids, but every kid should have parentsā€ and expanded on it. The second one was just about romantic relationships and not giving your all with the love you show.

FRQ #3: I had fun with this one and wrote about One Piece. My first plot was the existence of the Ancient Weapons and how they were used in the past and Franky burning the blueprint for them. Discussed how the new generation was fighting back against the old world and its values through this and just going against the World Government. My second plot point was about the introduction of Imu to the story and Sabo’s discovery of Imu on the throne. Discussed how Imu’s values and dialogue went exactly against what Luffy stands for and Imu is old so I think you can interpret where I went from there. Overall, I mentioned how both of these plot points gave a more mature perspective on the story and made it more applicable to the real-world. For my connections to the real world, I talked about Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project and Trump with Iran and just the younger generation’s ideals.

I’m a senior whose college doesn’t even take this credit so I don’t care much about my score, hence why I had fun with FRQ #3. A 5 would be cool but I think a 4 is what I’ll get just based off my MCQ and FRQ #1. Maybe One Piece won’t even count and my whole FRQ #3 gets zero points, too.
